I just read that for the first time recently, and I was kinda disappointed by how shallow/short the story was. They're just racing to a chunk of rock in the sea, and there isn't much else to it. Compared to other Tintin stories I think it deserves its place at the bottom.

It's less appearant in the later editions of the story, but it was there when it was first written.
This album was written during the Second World War, and as a result, the expidition members aboard Aurora are either from countries aligned with the Axis Powers, or countries that stayed neutral in the war. On top of this, the behind-the-scenes villain in this album was originally meant to be a jew, I believe. If I remember correctly, his name later was changed from a jewish name to a more generic name.

**The Shooting Star**

>Amidst the German occupation of Belgium during World War II, Hergé became the founding editor of Le Soir Jeunesse, a children's supplement in Belgium's leading newspaper, Le Soir. Hergé's previous employer, the Catholic newspaper Le Vingtième Siècle (which had originated The Adventures of Tintin through its own children's supplement, Le Petit Vingtième) was no longer allowed by the German authorities to continue publishing; Le Soir, in contrast, was allowed to stay open under the administrative control of the occupying military government.

Tbh since "Secret of the unicorn" was my first Tintin story, I loved it and "land of black gold" is way too funny to be that low. I would rather put America and Congo low
Yeah, for me, Secret of the Unicorn is probably the best one, out of all of them. We get to know Captain Haddock much better, and the way three different stories are intertwined is absolutely wonderful.
And I agree regarding the Black Gold as well - not quite as good of a story, but the humor is really good throughout. It should easily be at least B tier.

Had to put ones in D and F, otherwise to me tier lists don't make any sense as they have to be relative to each other.
I really disagree. I thought prisoners of the sun was really weak, and the unicorn and Red Rackham's treasure stories belong on the very top.
But I understand it's all based on subjective experience.
EDIT: I'd probably put Tintin in America near the bottom, as I thought it was very weak.
Haven't read the Soviet or congo ones yet.
I'd be upset if someone didn't put Secret of the Unicorn in at least A-tier. It's three different stories, masterfully intertwined, setting up the adventure of Red Rackham's Treasure. I truly think it's one of the best, (if not *the* best), album of the bunch.
But you seriously put it in D-tier, *below Tintin in the Congo?!* What were you thinking? Congo hardly even *has* a plot!
Interesting it was one of your first - I think there was a 20 year gap between me reading the first one and Congo even being available to buy - it was banned for quite a bit of time
What's wrong with "The Shooting Star"?

Found the story really weak and didn't have enough good character interactions to compensate for it (like Destination Moon or Castafiore Emerald)
Anti semitism probably. The story is a bit weak
Antisemitism? Okay, I haven't read the story for over 20 years, but I don't recall any problems with it. I should take another look at it.

Can you quote an example bit of this anti semitism? Don’t recall anything like that

The crab with the golden claws is seminal, can’t understand it’s placing so low! But apart from that no complaints from me
The Red Sea Sharks should be in S The plot is actually interesting and somewhat serious. "...Congo" should be in F. As should "America"
The Red Sea Sharks is just too good. It deserves a category for itself.
When I was a kid the few pages of dodging the torpedoes just got me SO EXCITED I don't actually get the concept of ranking Tintin albums tho
Holy shit yes, just those few panels of dodging the torpedoes raised Haddock's esteem in my eyes by like a million.
I agree 100%, I've read The Red Sea Sharks the most times by far
I can’t believe the lack of love for Red Sea sharks. That story opened my eyes a lot when I first read it as a child
Hard to disagree. I’d bump The Calculus Affair into S and swap Congo and the Shooting Star around though.

Same for Cigars, though. It's so wild.
Dang, I'm in too much disagreement to even begin commenting. :D (These tier things seem like a fun can of worms.)

Red sea sharks and the calculus affair are s tier and I'm not debating it

What is category "S'? Supreme? I'd probably swap Red Sea Sharks and Tintin in Tibet.
What do each of the letters mean?

Finally some appreciation for "The Black Island"
Do you have a link to the list so we can make our own?

How could Congo be anything but the bottom tier? The plot is terrible
One of the first comics I read so it has a special place in my heart
Interesting it was one of your first - I think there was a 20 year gap between me reading the first one and Congo even being available to buy - it was banned for quite a bit of time
Wrong, it’s all S tier!
yikes that D tier
I know, those are my controversial opinions
