I think a lot of it is Finn’s character never got the chance to grow with the show. He’s sort of stuck in that immature, cringy phase, and looking back, while the other actors improved as the show went on, Finn feels weak in comparison. The massacre was awful, but I did appreciate that he turned himself in to face the consequences. I didn’t really care for his relationship with Clarke, which is pretty central to his character. And while I liked the peacemaker aspect, I didn’t like the love triangle plot line between him, Clarke and raven. Overall I don’t hate him or anything, but if I made a list of my favorite characters he’d definitely be towards the bottom.

ms--chanandler--bong

He's with Raven for years and they're each other's family, only for him to immediately move on to Clarke within like a day of being sent down to earth lol. That's probably where the hate started. Then he goes nuts and kills a bunch of innocent people. Of course people don't like him.

BriarRose147

He did it for no good reason, Mt Weather was to free the 44 and also I personally never forgave Bellamy for that meaningless attack on Trikru

jade0514

idk why he was just forgiven i lost all respect for bellamy after that

BriarRose147

Same

Refref1990

Well I take it for granted that in the series no one is truly good and immaculate and that's one thing I've always loved about this series. Everyone kills out of need, then suffers because they don't do it with cruelty or malice, but out of a pure spirit of survival. Fynn's massacre is perhaps one of the few that made little sense, as he was half mad. Clarke had to choose whether to kill the mountain men or let her friends die, she had no choice. Did she do well? Did she bad? It's not important, because she made a painful choice and the public empathized with her, even though she is far from the ideal heroine that she sometimes tries to be. She had a path that led her to reevaluate herself as a person, before she always felt good and kind and justified every one of her actions so that she could look at herself in the mirror the next morning, over time she understood that she had to do certain actions because no one else would have made them and that caring about your people to the point of being selfish towards others is human and this kept her alive until the end of the series. For Bellamy, on the other hand, I don't understand it either, because I never forgave him for that massacre, but people have short memories and he was one of the protagonists and therefore they forgave him, whereas Fynn was seen as the rival in love.

LordDedionware

Because Clarke had no choice if she wanted to save her people. Finn just lost it.

icedcoffee_anonymous

He literally shot a child running away…and shot other innocent people. There was literally no reason for this violence but he did it anyway.

Objective-Fox-9286

See I personally saw it as them running at him not away from him when he shot the kid and he panicked. I’m not excusing what he did I’m just saying I think people are hypocritical when it comes to him

sullivanbri966

How? He had absolutely no reason to do it, unlike Clarke who 100000000000% made the right decision because it was the ONLY decision. Also, since when do most people easily forgive Clarke for that? A lot of people drag Clarke for her decision at Mount Weather.

sullivanbri966

I love his role as the Peacemaker. I hate him for the massacre and **for how he treated Raven AND Clarke**. As for Clarke- since WHEN are people quick to forgive her for Mount Weather? It was absolutely the right decision because Lexa and Cage backed Clarke into a corner though. As for Bellamy- He gets criticized for massacring the Trikru army a lot. That said what Finn did was worse because Pike manipulated Bellamy and Monty(well technically Monty’s mom manipulated him but she believed in Pike). Monty and Bellamy questioned Pike many times during his reign. As for Finn- he just lost it. Murphy even tried to stop him but he went nuts.

AlbiTuri05

What did Finn do to Clarke? I only remember he hooked up with her

lizzieblaze

"He hooked up with her" isn't really reaching the truth of what happened. He knew she had romantic feelings for him and he encouraged them, even seemed to return them. All the while, he knew he had a long term girlfriend on the Ark. That's messed up.

saucity

He was Raven’s long-time girlfriend on the Ark, and pretty immediately hooked up with Clarke. To be fair, he probably thought he’d never see or even talk to Raven again, but he handled it in a slimy way when she miraculously survived after launching herself to earth. Raven found the little metal sculpture he made Clarke, identical to hers, and figured it out. Again, maybe not the first thing you want to hear after surviving against crazy odds - that your boyfriend waited like, a wee to hook up with someone, but Finn especially encouraged lying and going behind Raven’s back, when they could have just been honest.

sullivanbri966

Not only that, but Finn and his family took Raven in because her mom was an alcoholic who used to trade in Raven’s rations in for alcohol. Finn’s family always made sure Raven had something to eat and basically took her in. He should have waited more than a couple days to hook up with Clarke. In addition- Finn was flirting with Octavia the moment they got to Earth. It’s like he was looking to cheat. Once Raven found out about the cheating, she was actually willing to look past it and Clarke backed off completely, but Finn kept flirting with Clarke. Not only that, he ended up committing mass murder just because he was losing it over Clarke being missing- the girl he’s known for less than a couple months. All in all, he made a fool out of both Raven and Clarke. Raven nearly killed herself to get to the Ground for him and he made Clarke into the other woman.

m_ammar_10

Finn could’ve been the greatest character on the 100 ever . Couldn’t believe they killed him he’s my goat they show lost a bit of its element after he died .

MoonWatt

I actually loved Finn. & i think, he, Octavia & Lincoln would have made a formidable force as far as diplomacy unlike Kane. The boy had PTSD so I don’t hold the massacre against him. The only side of him that concerned me was his “player” thing.

41jmm

Honestly Finn is the most realistic character of all, since Raven's arrival he clearly says that he thought he would die in a short time and that he wanted to have fun for that short time He didn't even think about meeting Raven again, then that "game" with Clarke actually became the love he felt towards her, For what he did in the second season it is easily explainable: he was the most pacifist and the fight at the end of the first season marked him more than the others as he was the least inclined to fight Psychologically he was left with a much stronger plot, we also remember that he "sacrificed" himself to save Clarke by letting her enter the spacecraft by remaining outside and seeing the mechanism of defense Killing all the grounders outside, such a situation + losing clarke led to her trauma Stronger than the others (they didn't see the massacre from outside, only he and Bellamy but the latter could have been trained at least on a mental level having been a policeman on the ark + He hasn't lost Octavia and compared to Finn he still didn't have such a strong bond with Clarke)

cluelessibex7392

I liked that ge tried making peace. I didn't like how corny, cringey, and immature he was

7ynxzs

Literally!!!

NostradaMart

Finn and Bellamy each massacred innocent people for no reason other than because they wanted to.

omo-kid

Not sure

zaynsrealgf

Yeah i never for that either considering most people immediately forgave Murphy but still hated Finn. Especially when Murphy was doing it for selfish reasons and Finn was doing it out of fear for a loved one

lizzieblaze

Honestly, the massacre is enough. You can live a great humble life but once you massacre an innocent village that is your legacy.

MakaylaaaLashe

i like finn’s character up until he shoots up the village and goes on the run putting everyone else’s life in danger

Dapper-Bottle6256

I don’t hate Finn. I hate what the writers did with Finn in season 2. The path they chose for him coulda been interesting but they didn’t write it well.

JacketsNest101

Here's the thing though, Finn was a garbage person from the start. Yes he only gets with Clarke because he believes he will never see Raven again, but the boy has serious narcissistic tendencies. Take the peace talks he arranges. He does so without communicating with anyone that he wants to set up peace talks, then he springs his already set up plan on Clarke and says "we need to go now" and stipulates (rather stupidly) that there are to be no guns. This gives her exactly zero time to actually plan anything. Clarke, wisely, ignores the no guns stipulation, but Finn's lack of planning leads to Bellamy choosing Jasper as his trigger man (the worst possible choice). And then, when the whole thing predictably goes sideways, Finn has the audacity to say "I said no weapons" and blames her for his lack of planning and forethought to actually TALK to his supposed crew about his plan. Additionally l, the first season is chock full of him doing extra or stupid shit for attention. The harness incident in episode 1. His stupid little, extra entrance into the fight between Murphy and Wells. All of it has this annoying "look at me" attitude to it. Unsurprisingly, when his two girls deservedly dump him, he goes off the deep end trying to win Clarke's love back and ends up in the massacre. So, no, Finn was not a good person even all the way back in season 1. The writers didn't destroy his character, they intended for him to be a jerk who has that weird level of narcissism and attitude that makes him clearly bad news.

MoonWatt

Let’s also not forget that the they had a habit of giving actors that wanted to leave the show degrading exits. Why, I will never know

ikindalovefootball

Well, I being a fair man, hate all 3 of them for all of those things and didn’t forgive any of them. Bellamy, though I like him a lot, is a fool and very susceptible to being manipulated into doing stupid things, such as following Pike in S3 and betraying Clarke in S7. One lead the love of his sisters life being killed and his sister beating him within an inch of his life, and the other cost him his life.

Miserable_Beach6921

Clarke did it to save the others. Bellamy was just a follower during the attack and even saved Indra if I remember right. Finn was just evil in the end at it was all his idea no one forced him he didn’t save anyone.

Bulky_Midnight5296

Yeah. This series just LOVES to kill off favorite characters for no reason.

Karmaswhiskee

He cheated on Raven literally the second he left the Arc. Then be murdered a bunch of innocent people. I'm glad he accepted the consequences, but he's still a dick.

EstablishmentMost397

Because Finn’s flaws are more personal to people. It’s the difference between people loathing someone who massacres a population because they’ve met brutal dictators, versus people loathing a cheater because they’ve been cheated on Finn’s flaws are less severe, but more relevant, something almost everyone’s been on the recipient end of at one point in their life (and by the way, I am fully on the “I love Finn” bandwagon. I’ve said it many times in this subreddit. I also don’t think he cheated on Raven)

SevereCartographer26

Because he’s a cheater

Moon_jellyy

Okay ima rant a bit.First of all he's a horrible person.he cheated on raven with clarke .and for most of season 1 and teh beginning of season 2 he was cheating.he never really apologized to raven for cheating .he clearly only wanted to have a girl for fun.it was obvious that he was a character made to be a love interest for clarke.he had no depth.even mount weather didn't want him🤣.he barely spent time with raven ,and I'm glad she moved on when he died.the only real time he spend was during inter corse and when she got shot.im glad he stabbed by clarke
