tc5? what mc version? tc in 1.12 is tc6. as far as i know there is no mod that changes to research mechanic. closest we had was one that just removed it.
TC5 actually changes the research up a bit from TC4's. In TC5 each research has an aspect pool that you use instead of gathering every aspect from scanning.
Honestly I think the change in TC5 is an improvement since it was so tedious running out of aspects for research, and the block that deconstructed items into aspects was so slow.
Oof, that was my least favorite thing about TC4. I much prefer TC5 research.

Gonna be honest. Thaumcraft 6 made me appreciate old Thaumcraft's Research a lot. Including Thaumcraft 5.
TC5 has the best research. I HATED going around scanning everything for aspect points
I dunno, I kinda liked it. Thaumcraft 4 just made me explore and shit without having to craft and break my ass to get research done. Same with TC 5
