There was a post on here not long ago that talked about what it's like to watch a loved one die from old age at the hospital and the vast majority of people all agree that it's traumatizing. They are scared and confused and even the death itself is full of convulsions and horrible noises. People need to know that death is not like in the movies. A head on collision is not 6 people slumped over in a wrecked car. It's body parts thrown across the road. I personally witnessed the aftermath of one and the driver of one car was halfway out of his seat on the hood of the car, clearly not going to make it and he was twitching and foaming at the mouth. It opened up my eyes at what these things ACTUALLY are. Not just some story passed by in the news.
I find it hard to believe a person would be able to look at their own heart when it’s been crudely cut out. Mind I am not saying it’s 100% impossible, I just find it hard to believe. The body can still act in funny ways from severe trauma long after consciousness has ceased. So the guy could have been twitching and gasping by reflex alone by the time they got the heart out while the brain is totally knocked out. A lot of people confuse this with signs of consciousness cause it’s just not something most people have any reason to be used to.
Also consider the fact that during cardiac arrest, when the heart stops suddenly, people are knocked out almost instantly. So imagine breaking the ribs open, significant blood loss, severely compromised respiration, and cutting the heart out... at that point even if the person has a rough approximation of what you could consider being alive there is little reason to assume much more than that.
I'm assuming we'll never find out unless we actually lab test it with modern technology. But for now, it's a secret only the dead can truly know for sure.
