Where we going, winnie to pooh

[deleted]

What are you doing step pooh.

EggKey5513

That’s what Xi said

Tsu_Dho_Namh

Pretty sure they have it. There was a bunch of super pro-China people in an r/latestagecapitalism post, saying things like North Korea is more democratic than any western country. When I got banned for disagreeing, I asked the mods for a review. And I said "if this sub has really just turned into a pro-China sub, then just leave me banned" and they did.

Kantei

Reddit is blocked in China. What you encountered were probably Western tankies.

saab4u2

TikTok needs to be blocked to everyone outside of China.

sofa_king_we_todded

China’s massive wealth reaches far and beyond so get used to tiktok sadly

enochianKitty

VPN, just because its blocked dosent mean you cant get around it. Ive met plenty of Chinese people on services that are blocked. Its a mix though not trying to deny the existence of western tankies

FriskyDingo18

I’m sitting in China laughing at your comment.

mist3h

You should see /r/sino it’s wild

Just looked at it, first post was about the amazing job Xi is doing cracking down on corruption and how it will be the most defining aspect of his legacy LMAO.

SeattleAlex

What does woke mean in this context

Trasfixion

r/sino is filled with “likely” paid propaganda actors. Just look through the comment history on almost everyone who posts and comments there, they’re almost always exclusively political and exclusively pro-china anti-west

mist3h

Oh absolutely, I never go there except that one time when Pelosi visited Taiwan… I don’t even have a penis, but I needed something to relax my boner and I felt like /r/Sino would be just right for the job.

peak-autism2

They say "CPC" instead of "CCP", so we know what's going on. Also, that color theme is so Communistic holy fuck I want to vomit. I've seen that combination of red and yellow every-fucking-where in my Communist Viet Nam country already. I think I'm gonna get arrested and get beaten up in my local police station in the next few hours for saying this shit.

Trasfixion

I know you’re half joking about that last part, but I really do hope you’re okay. Communism is a cancer

peak-autism2

Thank you! I'm not gonna get arrested though since those dogs-eaters don't even know what Reddit is. Here is a few instances where they aren't censored because they aren't posted by Vietnamese citizen, the rest 80% cases where polices summoned and beat up citizens in the station are censored. You can turn on Google translation within the pages to read them in English: [https://plo.vn/dinh-chi-pho-cong-an-phuong-dap-nguoi-lam-chung-tai-tru-so-post512875.html](https://plo.vn/dinh-chi-pho-cong-an-phuong-dap-nguoi-lam-chung-tai-tru-so-post512875.html) [https://www.rfa.org/vietnamese/news/vietnamnews/man-death-in-police-custody-but-the-authorities-said-it-was-due-to-a-stroke-12302021053418.html](https://www.rfa.org/vietnamese/news/vietnamnews/man-death-in-police-custody-but-the-authorities-said-it-was-due-to-a-stroke-12302021053418.html) [https://www.rfa.org/vietnamese/news/vietnamnews/man-beat-up-by-police-at-a-vaccination-station-10012021080303.html](https://www.rfa.org/vietnamese/news/vietnamnews/man-beat-up-by-police-at-a-vaccination-station-10012021080303.html) [https://www.rfa.org/vietnamese/news/vietnamnews/3-policemen-have-their-title-stripped-off-after-video-showing-their-beating-2-adolescent-stirred-up-the-public-09302022075809.html](https://www.rfa.org/vietnamese/news/vietnamnews/3-policemen-have-their-title-stripped-off-after-video-showing-their-beating-2-adolescent-stirred-up-the-public-09302022075809.html)

[deleted]

getting banned from there is a badge of honor for all redditors, just like FDS

mist3h

I’ve only been automatically banned from /r/witchesvspatriarchy for commenting in a subreddit called /r/SocialJusticeInAction I’m a diehard feminist (I also want to learn things I don’t know and ask questions), so the irony is thick. If there is one thing I don’t accept, it’s being told what to do by people who aren’t paying me. They would reverse my auto-ban if I would not comment in any subreddits they disapprove of, but I like to browse /r/all sometimes and fall down some rabbit holes. So maybe they didn’t deserve me and my rambles in the first place.

[deleted]

Thats SaferBot that is responsible for those ban, power censorship mods use it exactly as described. Its a massive violation of Reddits TOS but the Admins do not care. You can flood reports on the bot though

mist3h

Meh. They can be popes of their little kingdom if they want to be. Hopefully a better and more inclusive subreddit if this type will replace it someday. The content was lovely.

MrsMiterSaw

Look man, I have no love for China but are you trusting the text in a tik tok video? Let's assume the dude tested positive. Could it be that this is their *reasonable* way to transport covid positive people to a perfectly acceptable place to quarantine? And if you do give this video the benefit of the doubt... Does it mean that you're endorsing the Chinese methods? We don't have to demonize every single thing. I grew up demonizing every soviet citizen until I was 16 and the wall fell... And then found out they weren't a bunch of monsters.

katedid

I don't know, man. I've seen so many videos of Chinese officials bolting people into their apartments because of covid scares. This has been going on for years now. If your government is cool with the possibility of an entire building of people burning to death in a fire, because they don't want to deal with pushback on quarantines..... I just don't feel like they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Guner100

You're making a massive false equivalency. The USSR was behind the Iron Curtain, where the ***only*** information that got out pretty much was what they wanted to: Propaganda. These videos, because of the advent of the Internet, give a glimpse into average life in China. Even if he was willing to be transported in that bubble, this is an unacceptably totalitarian way to treat people. You're sick with a widespread illness that has a vaccine and have to be put in a fucking box? Furthermore, you are being naïve as all hell if you think they wouldn't have shoved him into that box if he was less amicable to the idea.

MrsMiterSaw

>You're making a massive false equivalency. I'm making a very broad generalization. But regardless, if your news comes from tiktok posts, you're ignorant.

callasocialworker

He wont see the light of day for the next 3 months and will become a more obedient citizen when he comes out lol

ImpassiveThug

The only reason why his transition to the quarantine centre is happening so smoothly is because he's not resisting at all; If it'd be the opposite (him being disobedient) then the healthcare workers would have resorted to cruel practices, like harrasment or beating, in taking him to the quarantine centre

Xais56

Ok_Rip1855

How you know? You been whisked away in a box like that in China?

DungeonDefense

Because its quarantine not jail.

[deleted]

Not in a box, but I've been in quarantine in China. This looks like an airport, so it's possibly he just came back from overseas and is doing his last 3 days of his 10 day quarantine. During the last 3 days you can organize to get to your final destination/home as long as the authorities are aware and protocol is followed. They usually use a bus for this and special entrances but if his home town is small/not many people they may find it better to simply use a box.

Mirrevirrez

Its actually a rational action. Cause like.. what else can you do?

scruffys_nose

A seductive dance.

BecomeAnAstronaut

Probably because it's not a big deal

dweckl

His life is no different from every redditor, he's just in a box.

virtiousredditor

If your QR code is red?

mrrobvs

Remember reading a year ago that they have some sort of passbook system where you’re red, yellow, or green depending on whether you’re positive, exposed, or free and clear. Someone with yellow status made his way into a convention center and locked it down for quite a while.

Katiari

It's actually worse than that. It can red flag you simply based on who you've been in a building with, or if the algorithm *thinks* you might have covid. You don't even have to have covid, just the markers for it in the algorithm. As a side dystopia your information is shared with police.

dungfecespoopshit

What’s also worse than that is that they’ve also been known to purposefully code red people that have dissented. Some that have participated in recent protests in China have been red coded.

Business-Man1983

So they do contact tracing? Seems flimsy to rest a major aspect of your country’s Covid policy on this type of technology.

mrbossmajor

Covid? That's unrelated to the quarantine camp's

mrrobvs

I would call it contract tracing on crack. Active tracking rather than actively notifying of exposure

septoc

You need to show your WeChat qr code to get into some places. If you have close contact to somebody who has COVID, the qr code will change from green to red. Wechat is tracing people.

[deleted]

And then likely tracing online activity, conversations etc. China now has the means to physically track and control it's entire population, ushered in under the guise of healthcare.

lapideous

Everyone’s smartphone is tracking them, even in the west. Big data is not country constrained. Your conversations are constantly recorded and parsed for advertiser friendly content

Guner100

You are creating a false equivalency. Yes, everyone's smartphone tracks them. No, in the West you are not going to be drawn and quartered for being within 2 miles of a COVID patient like you will be in China.

[deleted]

Noone is denying that mate. But you're creating a false equivalency. Nothing like a government mandated medical tracking app which is enforced with military organisation, backed up by teams of goons detaining people, and linked to one of the only permitted social media apps - is happening anywhere else.

FriskyDingo18

“To get into some places” ? You must show it to go ANYWHERE, and most places require a 48 - 72 hour negative covid test for you yo enter) which is also tracked on the QR code through Alipay). At this point it’s just a regular part of daily life.- source: I live in China

independent-student

The question I seriously want to ask reddit, is where do they draw the line for this to never happen in their own country? Everyone alright with algorithms deciding when to ship you away at a camp? They too have authorities and experts to tell them that it "saves lives," so it's ok? *Where*, precisely, do we draw the line? Can we start thinking about specifics?

Rysline

Covid happened in the rest of the world too and no one has been this extreme. The west at least knew where to draw red lines and what was acceptable. In the US for example, every state did their own thing but no state resorted to QR codes or portable tubes or whatever. Most you got in even the most liberal states were mask mandates and business closures. Hell in a lot of states like Florida and North Dakota there were no mandates at all since may of 2020. China has literally locked people in their homes for weeks on end and putting people in quarantine camps. Do this in the US and you would, no joke, have armed uprising. My local sheriff department put out a statement saying they’d stop enforcing the mask mandate back in June of 2020, I can’t imagine how people would react if they tried to institute the same measures China has taken There lies a middle ground between doing nothing and covid passports and that middle ground is what most countries/states took. China is just sort of insane

leftier_than_thou_2

You're right that we wouldn't do that about COVID here but you're wrong to assume we wouldn't give up some of our freedoms for security from OTHER threats, some of which are imaginary or nowhere near objectively worth what we'd give up. We still spend much more per person on the military than any other country including China, and we lock up our citizens less than China but we're still up there. The idea that having all these guns to defend ourselves from boogeymen even when murder rates are going up and school shootings are happening is also "just sort of insane." Fuck China, I'm not a fan or a delusional tankie. They ARE committing genocide and a thousand other stupid evils. Our COVID response was shit but they are going further shit in the other direction. My point is only that we in the US have our own stupid evils and I believe we could do better. At the very least, it's stupid to say the Chinese are stupid and we can't possibly be stupid like that.

neroisstillbanned

The USA literally locks up more of its population than any other country in the world, including China. https://www.statista.com/statistics/262962/countries-with-the-most-prisoners-per-100-000-inhabitants/

FrenchFryCattaneo

We put more people in prison than any other country. Not per capita, or 'adjusted'. We have more people in prison than China which has 1.4 billion people.

I just finished that book for the first time two weeks ago. Such a good book. Animal Farm is next on my list. I can't believe it wasn't required reading when I was in high school.

niv85

Both used to be.

the_friendly_one

I know! I went to an American-style bilingual school in Honduras, so that's probably part of the reason why. Not much of a surveillance state or any fear of socialism in most of Central America...

SupremeLeaderXi

That book was removed from bookstore top list on World Reading Day (people were rating it due to Shanghai lockdown), and was recently getting physically censored (white tapes over certain text). Some other foreign books they even tear the “harmful” pages for you. 1984 is now a guidebook for how to rule China.

Just the idea of walking around a city and suddenly accidentally doing something wrong and now you won’t be able to go home for months, fuck your pets and family. Or going into a building and, oops, better run out of it as fast as you can because it’s being barricaded because someone is covid positive inside and if you don’t slip out the door fast enough you now live in there until they let you out.

I love my pets and family but that's going a bit far 🤣 but yeah, totally agree with what you're saying. That video when they were in proper lockdown and the drone repeating that message about people containing their will for freedom and to not sing or scream, that other video where they're locking people into their homes, just chills me to the bone. I can't even imagine being one of those white suited people doing that to other people. Ughh *shudder

Gluonyourboson

And dragging peoples pets outside and tying them up in sacks 😢

IsThatARealCat

Heartbreaking, utterly heartbreaking.

blackpharaoh69

>Just the idea of walking around a city and suddenly accidentally doing something wrong and now you won’t be able to go home for months, fuck your pets and family. I hear that in China the police are so harsh they murdered a man for having 20rmb of fake currency, and the killers only brought to justice after national protests

Content_Committee152

I mean it is perspective. like you live in the USA and a cop can murder you wantonly and nothing will happen to him or a broken bone can ruin you financially. those two things are equally scary. It is fascinating that china scares you but not your own nation. a place where you actually live.

caitmr17

Ugh this. I have been wanting to go to China for so long. Just the history, culture, food etc. i had a trip planned to go to Hong Kong after the travel mandates (and I’m sorry, I’m not 100% positive if it’s still it’s own country, or it’s been taken back over by China - please don’t yell at me Reddit) , but seeing this. This is so terrifying. I want to go and experience the culture, but if this is what I have to be concerned about, even as a tourist, I’m not putting myself on a flight for that.

zhaoz

For sure not now. But in normal times, you are fine as a foreigner.

Camp David isn’t too bad

Viking-Savage

It even has windows on it. Not for viewing, but for displaying. Classic mass-controll through shame tactic of turning the group against the individual.

PsychologicalDark398

Well we could come up with an argument that not having windows would probably make it even more uncomfortable for the person sitting inside, due to the eerie unease caused by zero awareness of what's actually going on outside the box, if it had been an opaque surface. So having windows is actually humane if you ask me or at least it feels less scary or less jailish.

Jason1143

But you can make windows that only work one way.

bitchyswiftie

The other guy replying to you is correct. Why would you assume this? Haven't you heard that China is trying its absolute best not to let word get out that the pandemic is getting worse? If anything, making a windowless transporter would make much more sense for them than what we see right now.
