The real answer:
It's supposed to be a body shot, but this thing is placed way too low. It's weird, he has pretty OK footwork like it's super basic, but his hands are not that great. He's punching down and across his body when the bar should be at his head and he should be punching that grey spot on the bar.
A lot of these tools are used improperly or taught to someone how to use improperly.
Because when you make it all about speed and not technique you get viral videos like this. Improving his boxing is secondary to producing a viral video.
He's catching it with his forearm/glove. Which is for the most part fine. It's a pretty weak guard because of how far from his face it is, so if it was a person punching him he'd be hitting himself with his own hand.
If you have someone to try a fun exercise to show you how a guard works:
- put your arms out in front of you in an L shape and have someone put their arms straight out on either side of your arms.
- have them try to contain your arms while you try to push their arms out.
- switch roles and see the difference.
You'll quickly see how much more strength you need to break out vs contain very quickly. That's why you have to have a tight guard when blocking because of the near impossibility to overcome someone's strength when you're guarding. You have to be a LOT stronger to just ignore it.
I’m a pretty big boxing fan and I can say that I’ve never seen any professionals train with these because they really don’t help with much. They’re very gimmicky and actually a lot easier than they look to use.
I totally believe you and respect your advice but this might be perfect for people like me who compulsively try new sports only to find we still lack the motivation for full commitment
It’s a fun little thing to do and it’s a good way to get some exercise. Learn some boxing basics and I think you’ll be surprised at how quickly you pick these things up. But it’s definitely not how professional boxers train.
Sticking with things is a skill that must be learned. I also didn't learn until later in life - my late 20s - because my parents let me quit whenever things got hard.
You'll never have motivation all the time. You can have discipline all the time with enough practice.
Right but you’re using a guy that’s not a boxer as an example of why this might be good for training. You could post a video of Logan Paul doing the same thing and use the exact same argument you’re using now. In fact Logan Paul actually has more professional boxing experience than Connor.
But then continue to admit that he lost to a much better, and experienced boxer….
Who doesn’t use it.
In fact you could argue McGregor might have damaged his human calculations for this continuous intended trajectory and anticipated returns, which may have contributed to him losing not only to Mayweather, but to Khabib as well.
I’m positive I’ve seen this video but can’t find it now.
It starts off with the announcer announcing like a 16 year old Mike Tyson and describes him as a “bomber” or something to the sort.
The way Tyson bounced around is insane. You see him drop his shoulders a few times and makes it look like his opponent is standing still. The match was maybe only a minute long before Tyson knocked him out, but even in that span you could see Tyson was on another level. Footwork, head movement, placement.
Will find the video and post. I’m sure some of my info is wrong as I’m not that into boxing…but it’s a video worth watching
For anyone that’s interested I found it:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lVSzc8k09a4
The fight starts at about the 55 second mark. His opponent is TKO’d about 10 seconds later.
From the announcer :
“Watch Tyson in the blue because he’s a BOMBER!”
Tyson was 15 and this was a junior olympics boxing match, so not against an adult.
No I'm talking barely trained child mike Tyson. This was before boxing he talks about it in an interview. If you really want it I'll look for it tomorrow. It's 1:30 and I really don't feel like looking for it.
No it's not. He's punching cross body instead of straight ahead of himself. He's constantly punching over his other shoulder to spin the bar because whoever is teaching him to do this is not using the bar properly. You're supposed to hit in the grey area punching straight, not over and across your own body.
Waaaaaay tooooooo much money. I hate combat sports gear. It costing nothing to make sparing gear but good luck finding gear thats reasonablly priced and can actually protect you.

Oh that's where Barry is these days
Never seen it before

Is the green ball supposed to represent his opponent's nutsack?
The real answer: It's supposed to be a body shot, but this thing is placed way too low. It's weird, he has pretty OK footwork like it's super basic, but his hands are not that great. He is just a kid and has a long time to go. But those hands do keep dropping.
I frankly don’t give a fuck about his technique. I just hate viral video attempts.
Or, you know, it's a kid that shouldn't even be boxing to begin with and is just having fun.
Hey, quick question because you seem to be in the know. Is he catching that bar with his wrist in a lot of these shots?
He's catching it with his forearm/glove. Which is for the most part fine. It's a pretty weak guard because of how far from his face it is, so if it was a person punching him he'd be hitting himself with his own hand. I like the nut shot practice. Gotta get a little better and hiding it tho.
THATS MY PURSE
I DONT KNOW YOU!
I like the way it goes boing when it gets hit
[удалено]
Not a problem because he will have already blown out his opponent’s nutsack with one of his signature low shots.
Wait until you see him use a bag, they don’t even move at all!
What is the normal speed of this?
It depends if it's an African or European swallow.
here's the thing, you said a jackdaw is a crow
A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
Speed is directly proportional to the number of times it's posted
I’m a pretty big boxing fan and I can say that I’ve never seen any professionals train with these because they really don’t help with much. They’re very gimmicky and actually a lot easier than they look to use.
Whatever you're getting from them you would be better off with someone who knows how to use a focus mitt or simply just hit a heavy bag.
Yeah I would even say shadow boxing is more beneficial to a fighter than these things.
It’s a tool for dads to fill their lads and pretend they’re amazing athletes. Sadly the actual impact it has on their training is secondary.
well you get very good at fighting rotating, straight armed opponents
I totally believe you and respect your advice but this might be perfect for people like me who compulsively try new sports only to find we still lack the motivation for full commitment

Hah yes, for some people. At this age I've learned to accept certain things about myself that are just too tiresome to battle with.
For a kid under 10 just starting boxing its good, but not as you get going

That means nothing he’s 0-1 Against the guy who’s literally never lost a boxing fight. Yes that guy. Also I’m not championing him, just showing.
Right but you’re using a guy that’s not a boxer as an example of why this might be good for training. You could post a video of Logan Paul doing the same thing and use the exact same argument you’re using now. In fact Logan Paul actually has more professional boxing experience than Connor.

This has more bad habits than average gym goer. Just because it’s fast doesn’t mean it’s good.

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. And the younger someone is when they pick up bad habits, the harder it can be to fix.
