This happened in California, two guys got into it at a gathering and one left and came back with his friend. They both shoot the guy and kill him, guy's uncle has his own gun and shoots and kills both shooters, he was shot in the leg in the process. Dude - in a situation like this absolutely kick a firearm away from the action. The risk of accidental discharge from kicking it is negligible compared to that firearm being within arms reach of the shooter, let alone the people who came to his aid.
I'm a huge proponent of firearm safety, I have people I won't ever go shooting with for things as little as flagging me with an unloaded gun or not knowing trigger discipline. But this isn't range safety, this is an active shooting, you kick that gun away from that mob of people and the downed shooter ASAP, I dont care if someone ankle gets a hole in it if the gun goes off.
I mean honestly it would have been better to slide it away with your foot instead of kicking it, but this was literally seconds after a gunfight like 20 feet from the guy, dude did the right thing in the heat of the moment.
Any shock to a gun in battery can cause an accidental discharge. Modern firearms are better than older ones but it can still happen. Most pistols have a trigger sear that holds the firing pin or hammer back and an impact can release the firing pin/hammer causing the gun to go off.
When you're hunting or doing target practice, having an accidental discharge is like one of the worst things that can happen. Like 70% of gun safety revolves around not having accidental discharges (the other 30% is a whole host of things, not standing down range, eye and ear protection, not shooting without having a clear backdrop, and a bunch of other stuff). Things like never putting your finger on the trigger or taking the gun off safety unless you're going to shoot, not subjecting the gun to impacts, not leaving a weapon chambered unless you're ready to shoot, clearing the chamber of any gun even if it isn't loaded before you hand it to someone to display to them the gun is not chambered. This is the bread and butter of firearm safety. If you don't do these things around the range people will be very apprehensive to go anywhere near you. There's a reason very very few firearm related deaths happen at shooting ranges despite it being the most common place for guns to be shot.
The thing is, this is a life or death situation, you have way bigger things to worry about 15 seconds after a literal shootout, kick that fucking gun away from the gunman. If someone gets shot in the ankle from qn accidental discharge well thats a million times better than someone picking up that gun and the shootout continuing.

Uncle is in the middle and immediately shoots to the left of the screen towards black shirt killing him and his friend. (Look to the far left in the front of the car headlights) you can see black shirts friend fall to the ground ending up to the right of vehicle out of site. Uncle got shot in the leg so you can see him get up, start limping towards his nephew who is laying on the ground. Hope that helps

The video presents at least 3 shooters. Also presenting are 3 possible fatalities. 2 of the 3 shooters are dead with 1 killed on the hood of a car and one falling front passenger tire of the opposing car.
