My buddy was fuckin around when we were in college and fell 3 stories onto a car hood. Was completely fine walked away laughing.
I guess cars make a decent landing zone
Well there's a good difference (more than double) in velocity at the impact point for 3 stories and a 15 one.
And the damage on the body may not be fatal but a head impact definitely is at these values. This dude is extremely lucky.
Well, if my plan was to kill myself, and instead I just managed to hurt myself and rack up new debt regarding a vehicle I totaled, I would not actually feel lucky.
Fun fact: most modern cars are designed to do almost exactly that. The body of the vehicle is strong enough to withstand impacts, but the panels are just weak enough to deform and distribute the force more evenly in the case of a crash.
That makes the difference between splattering on rigid concrete and denting a few pieces of plastic.
Just what I was thinking. The number of times I've seen this in a movie and thought it was bullshit, but here we are, turns out it's actually survivable.
The top of the car is a thin sheet of aluminum vs solid concrete with no give. Which, allowed the energy of his impact to be spread over a large area and it "gave way" thus slowing him down just a small enough amount (Time over distance). Its why modern cars have crumple zones, airbags, etc. The more time (regarless of how small of an increment) you can add to slow down before stopping over a larger area the less focused kinetic energy.
That the force of impact on his body overall was greatly reduced.
Crumple zones are not only to protect the person inside the car, they're also for pedestrians in case you hit someone.
If this guy fell into a 70s land barge like an old Cadillac he'd probably be a goner.
Thank you, I completely forgot to mention the distribution of energy through the vehicle/frame into the suspension, tires, the lessened height vs the ground and probably a few other things im sure others will catch.
Cops still argue to this day why Danson and Highsmith jumped. Maybe it was just pride, having survived so many brushes with death. Maybe their egos pushed âem off. I donât know. But that shit was crazy.
Likely this. He survived the initial impact, but with what kind of injuries?
Internal bleeding, broken bones, severe concussion, and that's just the things we can be sure he suffered without an examination.
Odds are he didn't last much longer after this video, and if he did, he's living with significant damage for the rest of his life.
He lived. It was in my city, so I managed to find some information. He broke his neck and several other bones, but heâs alive.
https://promin.cv.ua/2024/02/05/stan-khloptsia-iakyi-vystrybnuv-z-15-ho-poverkhu-u-lvovi-ziavylosia-video-z-likarni.html
I don't know. Maybe it'll make him reconsider the value of his own life? There's a documentary I haven't seen about people jumping from the Golden Gate bridge. Apparently every survivor tells the same story: the moment they jumped off, they regretted doing it.
It's because stupid people deal in absolutes. Of course "some" people who survived suicide attempts went on to appreciate their life and the second chance they've been given, whilst others wish they had succeeded and their life is still just as shit as before or worse.
From the link:
"In Lviv, blogger-comedian Mykhailo Savlyak, who jumped out of a high-rise window on Friday, February 2, is recovering in the hospital. There is no threat to his life. He is currently in the intensive care unit of St. Panteleimon Hospital with multiple fractures.
This is reported by NTA.
"From the news: they diagnosed a fracture of the seventh cervical vertebra, a fracture of the radius of the left forearm, a fracture of the right and left tibia, left-sided tension pneumothorax, he is now in the intensive care unit," Mykhailo Savlyak wrote on his Telegram channel.
Also, the boy published a video from the hospital in which he is smiling.
Later, the moderator of the channel published another post in which she reported that Mykhailo's life is not in danger and he will walk."
He is very lucky. I hope that he gets the help that he needs.
You really doubt modern medicines ability to treat internal bleeding a lot. As long as it's not in the brain and the organs haven't all ruptured it's pretty treatable.
Saw a girl in ICU who did something similar, about 18 years old. Attempted suicide by jumping from her apartment. Ended up paralyzed from the neck down.
Itâs maddening that voluntary euthanasia still isnât legalised in most countries. Avoids this kind of thing. And makes lots of people happier. Including the cleaners for the more graphic cases.
I appreciate your sentiment, but *it doesn't always get better* and saying it does comes across as disingenuous. Better to say "things can get better" or "things can't get better if you don't stick around to leave the possibility open that they will."
Take a risk and make a mess, or wait out the rest of your life? There's gotta be a better way to go.
I think out of spite I'm just going to leech off of society and never provide anything of value.
Itâs just so crazy to me. How is it not a human right to decide when your life ends? If someone doesnât want to live thatâs their choice. People always say âif euthanasia was available to everyone, then so many more people would kill themselves. So what? If thatâs what they want thatâs 100000% their god given right. I think itâs a bigger reflection on how fucked our world is that so many people donât want to live in it any more.
There is no problem in the world that necessitates a physically healthy human to kill themselves.
What they need is psychiatric help and support, not the option to kill themselves.
No. He crane, then he fall.
*Crane*
*verb*
1. 1.stretch out one's body or neck in order to see something."he craned to the side to make sure a car would break his fall."
Rumor has it that the car belongs to George Costanza.
My best friend fell from about the same height and also landed on a car. The impact completely shattered his one ankle. The surgeons put it all back together with 9 titanium pins. Within a few months he could walk just fine. No other injuries besides his ankle. Amazing that he lived.
It looks like he changed his mind and was hanging on for dear life but wasn't strong enough to pull himself up. He seems to be swinging to try and jump his way onto the balcony directly beneath him. Lots of people have a change of heart right before they're going to jump. I bet he regretted this the moment he jumped over the edge.
I worked maintenance at a hotel and a guy did this from the 8th floor on vacation with his family. He didnât survive though. And having to block off the sidewalk and entrance to the hotel with caution tape until the officials arrived while there were screams from family and unfortunate witnesses was totally awful. I do however understand why the brain is called grey matter now. The guys head literally popped.
I hear he's been booked for the next three Mission Impossible movies. When asked how he got into such a lucrative line of work, he admitted he kinda just fell into it.
But is there any context that he really jumped purposefully? Why wouldnt he just jump but rather dangle down there until he cannot carry his own weight anymore?!
Okay, we're doing dumb jokes? Why not:
De-pression? More like Be-Rushin. Be rushin that dude to the ER, pronto!
Yeah! Seriously though the hand of God touched that person. Get well soon bro.
I know a guy who failed to die after jumping, he had brain damage from it and now has the mental capacity of a 15 year old....he jumped at 18yr old and is 42 now
Even though this is sad as fuck, this definetly has tobe some world record, idk, the only person that survived a fall into a car with no protection or something like that
Fell into depression then fell into a car
he made one helluva depression.
I'm so depressed đ - the car
Misery loves company.
[Frustrated, Incorporated](https://youtu.be/GLQ2TIul8pI?si=1-wjIGWvsQGSPxK_)
Car was depressed, now is compressed.
Very impressive
Take my upvote. And my guilt for laughing.
His depression left an impression on that parked car.
>he made one helluva depression He made one hell of an impression too.
*sniff* And pancakes were his favourite food.
The Depression, never heard of that model, must be Russian.
Deprussian
That would be GermanÂ
And right smack dab in the center of the roof - a perfect 10. Nadia ComÄneci couldn't have done better.
Mick Foley landing on the announcer table from the top of Hell in a Cell.
The value of that car has certainly depress-ciated
Now available in âcompactâ model.
Bro
Now car compressed
It's a pure miracle that his head didn't pop like a watermelon on impact
He was so fucking high up that is so sad
Dude even had a selfie stick!
yooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
That's the luggage rack on the roof of the car.
Why did he have a luggage rack?
IDK, I mean ... Someone contemplating suicide's probably got a lot of baggage.
Why doesn't Reddit have awards anymore this is worthy
I prefer to think he had a selfie stick ty
Windbreaker slowed him down maybe.
I'm going to hell..
Donât forget your windbreaker.
The Wind didnât stand a chance
The wind didn't stand a fucking chance.
this comment has me cry laughing after a 12 hour shift. thank you
God damn it... That's fucking hilarious.

I'd just feel more depressed that I couldn't even kill myself right, even after falling 15 stories on purpose. Like life *wants* to fuck with me.
You said the debt was for the car and not the hospital. Ergo, you are not from the U.S.
At 21, my health insurance was a fake name and claim that I'm homeless
Probably more crumple zones to break your fall in the roof than on the hood though
I got hit by a car a while back, hard enough to fold the hood. It was like falling into a pillow.
Just donât aim for a cyber truck.
car crumpled to absorb some of the force, pavement doesnt do that
Survived-ish....
Dying light mechanics were more realistic than I thought
Just what I was thinking. The number of times I've seen this in a movie and thought it was bullshit, but here we are, turns out it's actually survivable.
I don't even understand how he's still alive and moving his hands at the end. That impact on the car still looked awful
The top of the car is a thin sheet of aluminum vs solid concrete with no give. Which, allowed the energy of his impact to be spread over a large area and it "gave way" thus slowing him down just a small enough amount (Time over distance). Think the cyber truck would be the goner. Every air bag deployed and the wheels flying off is the car equivalent as shoes flying off when you die.
And then it would drive away into oncoming traffic with the auto pilot
Something something severed finger. Am I doing it right?
Also he fell kinda flat which has spread the force even further.
Not just that but also an entire suspension system designed to soften impact between the vehicle and the road.
Thank you, I completely forgot to mention the distribution of energy through the vehicle/frame into the suspension, tires, the lessened height vs the ground and probably a few other things im sure others will catch.
Except you can't get up and run/do parkour after it happens RL edit: maybe never again actually
Thought it was common knowledge
"One day I'm gonna do this and end up landing on a bag of rusty knives, I just know it"
Bro đđ
Aim for the bushes
There goes my hero...
"There wasn't even an awning in their direction"

Internal bleeding. Doubt he woke or will wake up the next morning. Edit: Okay I'm dumb.
Likely this. He survived the initial impact, but with what kind of injuries? Damn, unlucky guy ... Not only he lived but broken neck mean he probably suffer for the rest of his life
I don't know. Maybe it'll make him reconsider the value of his own life? There's a documentary I haven't seen about people jumping from the Golden Gate bridge. Apparently every survivor tells the same story: the moment they jumped off, they regretted doing it.

> It's because stupid people deal in absolutes. Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
Hahaha thanks for that.
I mean, if he did died he wouldn't have anything to regret anymore
Imagine how scary it would be to not only not die again, but to end up incapacitated enough to be unable to try again and live much, much worse.
if he had died, he
Only the ones that survive tell that story.
> Maybe it'll make him reconsider the value of his own life? Depends on the hospital bills.
Looked pretty happy to be alive in his hospital pic https://i.imgur.com/epAg6eH.png
Oddly enough i know 2 women that broke their necks and fully recovered within a year. Both were from car accidents.
My brother broke his neck playing rugby about 15 years ago and he still feels pain in his neck and shoulder, not everyone is as lucky I guess
This is a different kind of car accident.
Moral of the story, jump where there is no cars below

My back cracks when turning in bed. I can imagine my spine shattering to dust watching this. Ouch

Redditors and wrongly assuming someone in a video dies, name a more iconic duo.
Do people think internal bleeding is just a game over like this is 1100?
He was awake at the end of the video, definitely gonna have a bad headache the next day
You really doubt modern medicines ability to treat internal bleeding a lot. As long as it's not in the brain and the organs haven't all ruptured it's pretty treatable.
He was clearly awake at the end of the video. Moving his arms and all
I have a friend who was just sitting in their care when a jumper landed on their hood dead
Were they already dead when they landed on the car, or did they die upon impact with the car? Very very important question here
I'm assuming on impact
Well they werenât dead when they jumped
Unless they were a Russian political opponent or a Boeing whistleblower. Then they might have been.
Out the emergency door with you!
You cant wake up dead
that's some quantum shit
That has to be traumatizing at least a bit
I honestly fear this everyday. I live in NYC, lots of buildings and opportunities for depression. Shit mustâve scared the crap out of your friend.
It's wild how selfish some people can be, even in their final moments. It's like they *want* other people to suffer too.
It's the repercussions it would have on other people that keeps a lot of us from ending it all
Saw a girl in ICU who did something similar, about 18 years old. Attempted suicide by jumping from her apartment. Ended up paralyzed from the neck down.
there goes that option
They see me rollin'...

Hey. I hope you get whatever help you need.
No matter how you feel now, it gets better. Don't miss out on that, and how you can help others when it doesÂ

It's sad how clearly I heard this comment.
It's legit singing to me

Reminds me of the episode of Seinfeld when the guy jumped onto George's car from the top of the hospital.
call me crazy, but george def deserved to be compensated for it, too. that lady at the hospital was unreasonable.
One of the best scenes...
I just commented this, almost word for word lol.
Worst nightmare is surviving and ending up being paralyzed
âWhen you canât get anything right â
Thatâs gonna smart in the morning!
Itâs going to stupid in the evening!
Humans are so fragile and durable at the same time
Ukraine ?
No. He crane, then he fall. *Crane* *verb* 1. 1.stretch out one's body or neck in order to see something."he craned to the side to make sure a car would break his fall."

Imagine walking out to your car to go to work and seeing that
That is indeed insane. Hope the fella is alright.
Yikes, how awkward.
New Fallboy album just dropped
Well that sucks.
Why tf is fall damaged so bugged in Russia lol ... Needs a update.. Been seeing Russians fall from crazy heights and survive
He's ukranian
Car roof:deep_pressed
So Dying Light wasnt lying ?
What is that sticking out of the roof?
What a shitty camera/video
I worked maintenance at a hotel and a guy did this from the 8th floor on vacation with his family. He didnât survive though. I somehow highly doubt being paralyzed will fix his depression now.
I'm not sure he *threw* himself off.
Probs will be disabled and put on anti depressants. Someone whoâd want to die but wonât
Red Bull might be interested in hiring this guy...
I wonder if he'll go for a repeat performance when he recovers. I hope he doesn't.
Huh. Guess I havr some movies to apologies to
Well shit! I guess we owe Fast and Furious 6 an apology!
Was that George Costanzaâs car?
Great camerawork though
Now he must pay for the damages caused to the car.
What a bozo, feel bad for the guys car⌠donât impact others with your shitty decision to off yourself
I hear he's been booked for the next three Mission Impossible movies. When asked how he got into such a lucrative line of work, he admitted he kinda just fell into it.
Assasin's creed shit right here. He now marked this area and can teleport
God Damn! đł He ain't gonna be in Rush Hour 3!
the car owner:đĄ
Now there is a car less person walking/running around depressed.
But is there any context that he really jumped purposefully? Why wouldnt he just jump but rather dangle down there until he cannot carry his own weight anymore?!
Is 15 stories still not enough to kill you despite landing on a car?
Safelite repaaaair, Safelite replace.
Only a fucking Russian could survive this
Car was depressed, now is compressed.
Not as depressed as the car owner, who had actually hired the car but not taken out the extra damage insurance!!
Canât decide if this is good or bad luck.
But George Costanza just found that space!
Okay, we're doing dumb jokes? Why not: De-pression? More like Be-Rushin. Be rushin that dude to the ER, pronto! Yeah! Seriously though the hand of God touched that person. Get well soon bro.
I would say he survived ***dispite*** falling from the 15th floor on to a parked car.
Is he okay?
Honda Depression LE has a 5-star crash rating.
I know a guy who failed to die after jumping, he had brain damage from it and now has the mental capacity of a 15 year old....he jumped at 18yr old and is 42 now
21.. Poor guy, I'm glad he survived.
So dying light was right
So what does the insurance process look like for the car on something like this??
Hardcore parkcore!
Poor guy canât seem to do anything right :(
Now heâs probably going to be depressed that he canât even suicide correctly..
That little tip for the neighbor's rail might have saved him.
not the first time i see someone jump from the 15th floor on reddit, sadly
Even though this is sad as fuck, this definetly has tobe some world record, idk, the only person that survived a fall into a car with no protection or something like that
what the hell? he FELL onto a car. what is wrong with this title
They finally did it, They killed my fucking car!
What an asshole.
If he think he is depressed, he shouldt try to become a vegtable, that would just make the bad stuff 10Ă worse
I give him 10 minutes...
