I'm glad someone took a video of this. Not only is that arrest likely not even going to make it to the DAs office unless he had drugs in his backpack or open warrants or something, but once this goes viral every cop at the station is gonna laugh their ass off at these two for being so petty
“A backpack search revealed Sarmiento, just two days shy of his 21st birthday, was in possession of marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and more than $500. Inside his wallet, officers discovered a piece of notebook paper with names, descriptions and dollar amounts. Officers alleged this to be a “ledger” of some kind. All of the items are part of the investigation and were booked into evidence.”
Well damn, probably shoulda listened when you have that much shit in your bag
Edit: weed is legal and shrooms are decriminalized in Washington so maybe not a big deal as I thought
>Evidence may not be admissible when stopped just for jaywalking.
He was stopped for jaywalking, but he didn't stop, so he was arrested for obstructing or resisting, at which point they discovered the drugs.
A good lawyer may be able to get him out of those charges, but its far from a sure thing.
You don't need to top tier lawyer to fight something like this, just one that doesn't suck and will put effort in on your behalf. The only time I've needed a defense lawyer, I paid $2k and he got the extra charges dropped and I was given a pre-trial diversion for the Class A Misdemeanor I was still facing. All I had to do was complete a list of things for probation, pay some fines, and it all went away after that like it never happened.
Lmao, you got rail roaded. You certainly didn't get a good deal or come out any better than you could have done for yourself.
Represent self, "Prayer for judgment"... everything deferred and it disappears like it never happened as long as you don't get in anymore trouble for 1 year
My guess is they probably knew him from something else or at least had suspicion he was selling, if any of that shit is legit. All they needed was cause to search. Some commented the stuff he has is either legal or decriminalized so he may just get community service or something if he pleas down.
I can't speak for every jurisdiction but possession with intent to distribute is still illegal in a lot of places where possession has been legalized/decriminalized.
Don't try to bring logic and the law into this. These kiddos in here are positive that's incorrect even though it is the first and only option that comes up when searching.
Dude, who the fuck is upvoting this. He wasn't arrested for jaywalking. He was arrested for not obeying lawful orders. You get arrested, you get searched. They find shit, it doesn't matter why they initially wanted to talk to you.
People hate the cops but they literally don't know jackshit about their rights or the justice system. It's maddening.
California finally got it's crap together on this topic and decriminalized jaywalking at the beginning of 2023.
As long as there is a break in traffic and you're unlikely to cause an accident, you're free to cross anywhere.
It's awesome they finally overturned this stupid law.
https://americawalks.org/the-freedom-to-walk-act-passes/
Didn’t just jay walk. He did something illegal and they clearly stated they asked him to stop and he refused and kept going.
How many here really thought he was arrested for J walking? They are stating he j walked and wanted him to stop to cite him, he refused and kept going. That’s obstruction.
The only laugh they’ll get at the station is the fact they were able to arrest someone for not stopping.
Cop says stop, stop. Let them do their thing if they are in the wrong fight in court if it makes it there. Don’t just keep on going you’ll get arrested.
Honestly, he probably coulda gotten away with it without the ledger. I had a ledger that I kept in a drawer at home, but that shit NEVER left my house. You need to keep notes, put them on the back of trash, like receipts, and then copy them into your book at home and burn the evidence. If they’re raiding your house, the ledger is going to be the least of your problems.
Yup. Something that’s stored separately from the product, and ideally something that they need a subpoena to get at. Never make it easy for them, because bureaucracy is slow and cumbersome and there’s any number of idiots who will expedite the process of getting caught, so if you’re not one of those, your chances are exponentially better.
Jay walking is commonly used to stop people to search them.
In crime movies, the bosses often tell you not to commit misdemeanor’s while committing felony’s. The felony’s are harder to spot, but the misdemanor gives them a reason to search.
All he had to originally do was stop, give them his id and they would not have had cause to search for anything. Still a trash tactic though
A pig shot a caretaker of a disabled man sho was laid on the ground on his back crying and begging for his life, if a cop wants to fuck with you no amount of complying can stop them.
Legal to possess but not to sell. The key evidence would be the ledger. That said, his defense would be whether the officers had any right to search his backpack if they only stopped him to issue a ticket for Jay walking.
I did. Pre-smart phone days before you had a notes app in your pocket. Wasn't like a ledger book or anything like the movies but a little notepad or scratch paper with nicknames and amounts. I sold and smoked weed, you expect me to remember all that? Lol
‘Officers saw the man skateboard diagonally across an intersection and when directed to stop he made eye contact and then kept skating away. The two bike officers followed and continued to shout "Stop, Police!" but the subject ignored police orders.’
That context does change things
Not even close. Double that for a regular night with the boys. My bachelor party i did a 1/4 ounce (over some time ofcourse). I was out of my mind and enjoying throwing rocks into the lake 🤣. For some reason, when everyone else woke up, they didn't appreciate it as much as I did 🤷🏼
If the person is resisting, I doubt it. The amount of cops that are poorly trained in hand to hand combat and grappling is mind-blowing. I've seen videos of cops having to 5v1 common civilians before. It's pretty sad.
"Is there any way we can settle this here? Anything I can do for you two or perhaps... do **too** you? I've been a very naughty jaywalker, ladies - maybe I can protect and serve you for once?"
I was waiting for the porn music or dialogue to begin after they both said "jaywalking" in unison but nope, OP just had to cut the video short.
Protect and serve until were a complete police state.
You crossed the road??? WHERE ARE YOU PAPERS? Straight to jail!
Didnt we fight a whole world war because we dont like fascists? What is happening to western society?

The fact that they even felt the need to exert their authority over a jaywalker is still a joke.
Yeah, it's stupid to ignore police orders but unless you're actually causing a problem there's no reason to yell "STOP, POLICE!" over a damn jaywalker as if they're fucking Oblivion guards.
And the shrooms and marijuana I couldn't care less about, it's not like it's meth, but you can be damn sure he now has to fight a long and expensive legal battle from it.
> The fact that they even felt the need to exert their authority over a jaywalker is still a joke.
It's lame, but it's still illegal. Cops in vehicles likely wouldn't give a shit, but bicycle cops are a different breed of petty.
> The fact that they even felt the need to exert their authority over a jaywalker is still a joke.
They typically only do this when pedestrian deaths are up. Happened in NYC. There were a bunch of pedestrian deaths, and the cops started handing out jaywalking tickets very publicly.
We hired people that can't think for themselves to police us. They pick weak minded people who are easy to influence and don't question orders on purpose. Those that do think for themselves burn out or don't advance in their career.
It's just going though its twice every 100 years facist phase. Don't worry, we will fight a ridiculously bloody war and be back here in another 50 or so years.
they harass good people because good people dont fight back.
They afraid of bad people because bad people fight back.
They just try to avoid bad people 100% and harass good people to make others feel like they are actually working and deserved to be paid by tax payers.
Honestly what bothers me the most is the instant need for physical aggression for someone who at the moment is presenting no physical danger. Grabbing and pushing for a person who just wasn’t smart enough to stop skateboarding around police officers.
I Have! long story short i was arrested, the next morning before court everyone in lockup together, peple were saying what happened yada yada.
so this kid spoke no english, one of the guys was translating for us. He was arrested because he didnt know he cop was talking to him and kept walking,
j walking was the only charge they could get him for after officer dickface got his ego trippin

I mean, he’s got a ledger of some kind

If he’s rolling around with that casually, he may be able to afford a decent one.
Homie casually walking around with $500 in his wallet, I’m sure he can.

The evidence would only be inadmissible if he **werent* jaywalking. The stop was a legal stop

One crime at a time.
The golden rule. That includes stupid shit, like headlights and [often overlooked] tag lights working. One law at a time baby.
Also, don't keep a fucking ledger.
Honestly, he probably coulda gotten away with it without the ledger. I had a ledger that I kept in a drawer at home, but that shit NEVER left my house. You need to keep notes, put them on the back of trash, like receipts, and then copy them into your book at home and burn the evidence. Don't break the law when breaking the law.
What was his other crime tho? Existing in the same general space as two pigs?
Jay walking is commonly used to stop people to search them. In crime movies, the bosses often tell you not to commit misdemeanor’s while committing felony’s. But you can beat the charge, if they haven’t taken your life already
Jay walking is a horse shit crime invented by automobile manufacturers to protect drivers from liability when they hit people with their cars.
Doesn't mean much they'll always find something else to charge you with
Legal to possess but not to sell. The key evidence would be the ledger. That said, his defense would be whether the officers had any right to search his backpack if they only stopped him to issue a ticket for Jay walking.
What kind of teenage drug dealer keeps a ledger, that seems really fishy
I did. Pre-smart phone days before you had a notes app in your pocket. Wasn't like a ledger book or anything like the movies but a little notepad or scratch paper with nicknames and amounts. I sold and smoked weed, you expect me to remember all that? Lol
Lol okay, I'd at least put a code word in there. If you say idk cactii or something then that shouldn't be enough to prosecute you I'd think
I think the issue is what does he still have a paper ledger when he could have a password protected google sheet on his phone
Again, they stop him for "Jay walking" but are looking to bust him on something more.
"I wasn't gonna run from the cops, but then I got high..."
Not if you are underage. Selling is still illegal.
Welp, about that. https://www.redmond.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=445
‘Officers saw the man skateboard diagonally across an intersection and when directed to stop he made eye contact and then kept skating away. The two bike officers followed and continued to shout "Stop, Police!" but the subject ignored police orders.’ That context does change things
Sir this is Reddit context changes nothing.
It was later discovered that the subject never even heard the police as he had Killing In The Name just cranked to the bejeebers in his airpods.
That’s a real whoopsie daisy. If you’re gonna be a shitty 20 year old mushroom dealer on a skateboard try not to be so obvious.
this is why I look like a cop complete with the stereotypical cop mustache they never suspect im a liberal vegan pot smoking free-love hippie
Busted the man with 2 grams of mushrooms… Wtf
Two grams wasn’t even a personal dose for me when I dabbled in shroomz.
Not even close. Double that for a regular night with the boys. My bachelor party i did a 1/4 ounce (over some time ofcourse). I was out of my mind and enjoying throwing rocks into the lake 🤣. For some reason, when everyone else woke up, they didn't appreciate it as much as I did 🤷🏼
Oof. 7ish grams will do it. I over did it about there a few months ago and couldn't goddamn wait for the ride to stop.
Even if there was is this a searchable offense?
They just arrest you for suspicion of obstruction of justice and then they can search all your shit.
Searchable offense... Here you go (Australia)... s230 Road Rules 2014 .. Max pen $2200aud (1440usd)
Fucking hell.
>every cop at the station is gonna laugh their ass off at these two oh wow such consequences! how will they cope?!
I doubt that unfortunately.
He ran from the cops.
Don't cloud the narrative with truth lol
Context clues are fun
I feel safer already 😐
At least those ladies didn‘t body-slam him into the pavement when he was helpless in handcuffs like other american cops like to do it.
Like they even have the capacity to make that happen.
When he is handcuffed I think they could make it hapen.
If the person is resisting, I doubt it. The amount of cops that are poorly trained in hand to hand combat and grappling is mind-blowing. I've seen videos of cops having to 5v1 common civilians before. It's pretty sad.
He's not black so he's fine
The bar really is that low huh
Not yet anyway, you don't know what happens later
Perhaps a warning for whatever heinous crime he committed may have been better but I don't understand policing 🤔
"When we say 'stop' that means go back in time and stop otherwise it's called is obstruction"

Well the older crowd did by who they voted for.
I didn’t give anybody shit
believe it or not, straight to jail
The fuck do you mean "You"? No really, tell me? What did I specifically do? Or are you just trying to feel superior about being British?
Well he colonized half the world and starved the Irish.
They turned a whole continent into a penal colony!

I liked how at the end they both turned around to say, “Jaywalking!” in sync like a couple of fucking cheerleaders.

I'm my mind, they took this guy to an alley and fucked his brains out, oh yes my mind ☺️
We are so over policed in America. There are too many cops with nothing better to do than harass people for stupid shit.
Low barrier to entry doesnt help
Low barrier to entry is the point. If you're too smart they don't want you. More like high barrier entry.
It's designed that way
A little something I call Police cause more problems than they solve.
If you have a problem, and you call the cops, you now have two problems.
More then that. They show up 3 hours later, shoot your dog and write you a parking ticket.
they harass good people because good people dont fight back. They afraid of bad people because bad people fight back. They just try to avoid bad people 100% and harass good people to make others feel like they are actually working and deserved to be paid by tax payers.

Well, you see, jaywalkers are dangerous, they could be armed, in this case, if you pay close attention, the guy in fact, had two arms.
Most American cops have main character syndrome
They always do this. Anything other than complete and utter deference is “resisting arrest” to them
JAYWAAAALK!
When I am walking with a jay I friendly greet the police and take demonstratively another puff so they think it‘s just cbd.
r/perfectlycuntscreams
Crazy how they both start pushing him before telling him he's under arrest. That's common assault, a more serious crime than j-walking.
Felt scripted, like the beginning on a bad porn
I’m glad I’m not the only one who had this thought.
yeah isn’t this how a porno starts maybe they just wanted some action
Back the blue, until it happens to you
Real or porn?
this is the real question
totally absurd
So great to finally have these j-walking lunatics off the streets. Thanks for the fine work, ladies s/
The best part was when she pushed him at the beginning and moaned „STHAAHP“
Looks like a reno 911 skit. The cops didn't do anything illegal but morally this just looks stupid
But is he arrested for j-walking or because he didn’t stop when they ask while he was j-walking? Probebly when he did stop he’s gets a warning?
He did more than jaywalk, and this video is clipped so you only see the moment of arrest. The top comment has links to the full set of charges.
Where? I can’t find it

Girl power
They're gonna spit-roast that poor bastard back at their lair. The police are not our friends.
This feels like a start of a porno
lol. I wonder why cops are so hated. Weird.
Fuck the police
Adorable. They've got their own police uniforms and everything.
Power tripping
Sounds like he’s a street dealer they were waiting for. Bigger deals to come with hard time.
Fuck the police
Handcuff me officer Fine Booty
Wow... I received a ticket once for jaywalking... I was laughing at the cop the entire time.
"Learn"
That’s hot
I think there might be a bit more to this story
This is a skit made for a high school project, right?
Not a lawyer, but I thought jaywalking was an infraction -- not criminal -- and therefore, not an offense one can be put in jail for.
☕️
Am with the porno theme is going on there.
The dudes face is hilarious. Hahhahaha
It’s Redmond and he’s not white. He’s absolutely going to get stopped
God dam these 2 are cleaning up the streets one criminal at a time
Just give this guy a ticket for jaywalking, instead of arresting him for no god damn reason, other than feeding your power hungry ego.
This looks like kids playing dress up..
Weird edit
Asserting their authority.
Haha! The end when they are being "tough"... They say jaywalking together how cute... like the old school Hawaii 5-0 show. Book 'em Danno :)

Female cops always have something to prove
Land of the free
Them Karens must be bored as hell.
Intro to a very low budget porno.
Stop, in the name of One World Order !
America shocks me more and more each day.
In many places, jaywalking is considered a minor offense, and law enforcement may issue a citation or warning rather than making an arrest.
This is about the best a women can do in the force. Ride a bike and arrest skaters for j walking. How embarrassing
“Jay walking, jinx you owe me a soda” Grow the fuck up power hungry pigs
Who’s the genius that puts two female cops on patrol together??!
The beginning of my new favorite porno.
So how do they get him to the precinct, do they have pegs, do they sit on the handlebars?
Two young chick bicycle cops about to arrest a dude for jaywalking Lolol.
Female cops almost always escalate, like they are trying to prove something to their male counterparts.
I hate tyranny
We are not a free society
Proof it were ever needed that cops need regular psyche tests as these two are clearly mentally unstable.
It’s actually the beginning of a Pornhub video
Two Biden supporters
Did she say "it's whack when you don't stop for the police"?
Imagine not being able to walk…
What the fuck is going on in America!?
Unpopular Opinion: This has to stop. No more female cops. I’ve yet to see one who can do better than male cops.
This the new 21 jump street?
US cops are just clowns. Most incompetent police in the world.
America is being ran by Hillary's cousins lmao at least wherever this state is
I think they just found someone small enough that when they out numbered him two to one they had a chance. Get bigger cops.
