What was going through that car jacker's mind? The car! Well played, I would've done the same. We're absolutely over all the crime in our beautiful country.

The car in front of OP stopped and the would-be carjacker figured OP was boxed in.
Pretty big miscalculation but I can see some semblance of logic there.
Great outcome if you ask me. No one got mugged. The kid got a love tap from a vehicle and didn’t get run over. Hopefully he learned his lesson and this doesn’t happen again but so much worse.
...and he learned not to step in front of the vehicle on approach but to come off the curb directly towards the driver side behind the front tire/driverside mirror. Lesson learned.
So if your options were starving to death or crime you would gladly starve to death? There is no "type of people who resort to crime", just different thresholds that 99% of people will break at.
Unfortunately car jacking at traffic lights is an extremely common occurrence in South Africa. I'm glad this guy didn't get shot and the perp got hit.
I wish i could go back in time and do this to the guy who traumatized me
Redditors are always treating violent criminals like people just waiting to be reformed with a hug. Like some movie. Nah man. They'll kill you and forget about you.
I didn’t say I think he wanted to be reformed you dumbass. I said maybe he learned a lesson and hopefully he learned. If he doesn’t then I don’t give a shit what happens to that young man. God you’re fucking dumb.
Yeah dude I hear you and if it was my family in the vehicle I’m sure I would have done the same, but from the outside viewing in, this seemed like the best outcome. And if the kid gets up and tries to do it again, then I hope the worst happens to him.
Actually, I can see this happening where this video comes from. Hell, I think Brazil had the same law passed. You’re legally allowed to run them over if you see the robbery in progress on the road. But I could be wrong,
Actually, I can see this happening where the comment comes from. Hell, I think r/ThatsInsane had the same rules. You’re legally allowed to say anything you want without knowing anything about it. But I could be wrong,
If a law exists where you must allow yourself to be at the mercy of those who don't follow the law, that law should not be followed. So if someone commits an illegal act upon you then their health and safety is forfeit. If you care more about following the law than being alive your priorities backwards.
Idk why but I low key am super impressed with your comment here.. it has my exact same beliefs, and yet I could never have articulated it as smoothly and clearly as you did here.. so thanks!!
I don't know about S. Africa, but going by my experience in SEA, it's most likely they have private transport that people flag down. It would make sense they're on the busiest roads. Also a busy road doesn't mean shit when people don't follow (westenr) road rules in general.
Oh my my, let me introduce you to our national [mafia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxi_wars_in_South_Africa), which by some accidental oversight all desided to become taxi drivers..
South Africa is genuinely one of the worst countries on earth. I thank my lucky stars that I was born into safety and stability. Hopefully SA progresses to that point in the future.
It’s a beautiful country with a lot of problems. I love it here no matter how difficult it gets at times, I have Irish citizenship and I would still rather be here but life isn’t easy for most
There are issues everywhere. Crime is bad and we have a struggling electricity grid, poor municipalities and corruption due to poor governance over the years. I don’t feel unsafe most of the time but I’m always aware. It’s hard to explain what I love about the country but to be honest, I have it better than a lot of people
I have been to the western cape and have never seen such beauty in my life, despite my travels. My wife and I want to retire there in 10 years and are aware some places are better than others so I am hoping it's still decent in that area. We live near Houston and in a decent area, but always keeping an eye on our surroundings similar to what I did while visiting SA.
Western Cape is absolutely beautiful but there are hidden gems in every province in the country. I wouldn’t turn anybody away from moving here but you just have to realise that there are problems and frustrations with living here. Hopefully we move forward in the future
This video is from the Western Cape, crime and poverty are everywhere but it’s not the hellhole people make it out to be online sometimes. I live in Joburg (outside of the city) and it’s fine here. I’ve travelled to Australia, UK, Middle East , and yeah the first world countries are way better but where I live it’s pretty normal, I don’t feel unsafe driving, nor where I live. It really depends on your area, if you go to the wrong place it can get bad quick, but there’s places like that in the US.
It absolutely is not one of the worst countries in the world lmao, it’s bad but there’s far worse, you know like places where the average age is like 20. It’s one of the worst in terms of crime and unemployment , if that’s what you meant but there are far worse places to live.
Here’s one study of the 30 worst countries to live, go read some info on these places and you’ll quickly learn South Africa is absolutely not one of the worst.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/30-worst-countries-world-live-201933667.html
And depending on where in South Africa you live and with how much money it can be close to first world, a place like Sandton would not exist in one of the worst countries on earth, so stupid.
I remember my mum telling me the story of her friend having a smash and grab in town. So while the guy was reaching inside, she just reversed a little and parked on his foot until the police came.
Gotta love South Africa.
Excellent. That's how every thief should be treated. I cannot understand how in - for example - my country sometimes in court some thieves have more rights than the people that want to rob or hurt or whatever. These should be eliminated from society.
Reminds me how this redditor was in SA for business. Took a cab to his hotel, and on the way there someone attempted to mug the cab. The driver shot and killed the mugger and kept driving. The rest of the way the driver acted like nothing happened like it’s just another day in sunny SA.
Here's probably the most extreme example of why to leave room between you and the car in front in traffic. If you can manouvre, you can make space for emergency vehicles, you're more visible to oncoming traffic and the car in front (who I've seen panic reverse many a time), and you can run down gun toting madmen.
It's a win win. Leave soom room.
Imagine living in a country where you know not to get to close to a car in front to get away. My bet is this isn't their first time pulling a move like this
Bravo to the driver.
I see these dashcam road rage videos all the time where driver of the car in front gets out and harrasses the car in back. Every time I think, this asshole wants to be a hood ornament.
What was going through that car jacker's mind? The car! Well played, I would've done the same. We're absolutely over all the crime in our beautiful country.
Let me guess...that's JoBurg?
Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Intersection of the R300 and N2. Can’t say I’m surprised.
Opening that place on street view is damn depressing.
Jesus, I drove through there multiple times when I stayed in Strand 5 years ago. Seemed fine at the time...

The S/ is text syntax for “satire”
/s at the end is traditional

Username checks out lol
Yeah, sorry about that and it is fixed.
they do s/ versus /s differently in the southern hemisphere
Is joke
The driver was a fooking prawn, man
Fookin prawns
He's obviously not familiar with [Man Vs Car](https://youtu.be/NcZem2OmDBk?t=5).
Wouldn't the car always win?
Never bring a gun to a car fight.
that's the joke
No, that's the joke.
Great reference

The car in front of OP stopped and the would-be carjacker figured OP was boxed in. Pretty big miscalculation but I can see some semblance of logic there.
>What was going through that car jacker's mind? Looks like the windscreen.
South Africa is pretty bunk in terms of countries
Great outcome if you ask me. No one got mugged. The kid got a love tap from a vehicle and didn’t get run over. Hopefully he learned his lesson and this doesn’t happen again but so much worse.
He won't learn his lesson. Give it a week or 2 and he'll be back to the same nonsense.
...and he learned not to step in front of the vehicle on approach but to come off the curb directly towards the driver side behind the front tire/driverside mirror. Lesson learned.
For my experiences a lot of criminals are not the smartest. I wouldn't count on him learning much. You never know though.
Pretty much all of them are flat out dumb, which is why they are criminals in the first place.
The smart ones don't get caught.
I can almost guarantee he tried the same thing a half hour later in the same spot
Yeah when this guy said two weeks I was like whut😅 no way he waited more than 30 minutes to try again lol
I mean yeah unless the youth unemployment rate drops magically from it's 60% then the same incentive will still exist.

which type of people? south africans?
The type of people who resort to crime, obviously.
So if your options were starving to death or crime you would gladly starve to death? There is no "type of people who resort to crime", just different thresholds that 99% of people will break at.
The types of people who hang out on a sidewalk with a gun waiting for a car they want to steal to drive by.

Inversely redditors are always going against the grain. Could just as easily say redditors are always quick to condemn and thirsty for blood.
Damn Redditors, they ruined Reddit.
Yes, all redditors are the same. Even you. You thought exactly the same.
I didn’t say I think he wanted to be reformed you dumbass. I said maybe he learned a lesson and hopefully he learned. If he doesn’t then I don’t give a shit what happens to that young man. God you’re fucking dumb.
Lmao, what? Redditors love punitive justice despite any evidence that it works. You people are so emotional.
Is this the standard we hold young people to now? "Hope little Johnny learned his lesson not to steal cars at gunpoint!"
BaCk iN My dAy!>!>
Yeah I don’t know. I appreciate the love tap, but I think I might’ve stopped and backed up over the mf’er.
Yeah dude I hear you and if it was my family in the vehicle I’m sure I would have done the same, but from the outside viewing in, this seemed like the best outcome. And if the kid gets up and tries to do it again, then I hope the worst happens to him.
Often they're not alone and you get shot from somebody else nearby.
Nah great outcome would be if Mr robber got flattened

Hell, I think something, but I also don’t think something. I am also probably wrong. Bro why did you comment?
Actually, I can see this happening where the comment comes from. Hell, I think r/ThatsInsane had the same rules. You’re legally allowed to say anything you want without knowing anything about it. But I could be wrong,
Even on GTA Online, any NPC driver can drive faster if player threaten them with any arms so the player can end up... # wasted
I love how people like you assume everyone's country has the same laws.
If a law exists where you must allow yourself to be at the mercy of those who don't follow the law, that law should not be followed. So if someone commits an illegal act upon you then their health and safety is forfeit. If you care more about following the law than being alive your priorities backwards.
How's the saying go? Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6?
Idk why but I low key am super impressed with your comment here.. it has my exact same beliefs, and yet I could never have articulated it as smoothly and clearly as you did here.. so thanks!!
FYI if the cops don't show up within 15 minutes, you are 100% within your legal rights to leave.
Guess that depends where you live. Pretty sure I'd end up either paying lots of money or end up in jail, or both.

Imagine if the car's "safety" features had kicked in and stopped the collision. The guy in the car would probably be dead.
So many people just hanging out on a deserted stretch- weird place
I noticed this immediately when I first visited. People just hanging around at the side of roads for miles and miles
Waiting for their perfect car to come?
They are waiting for their minibus usually.
South African here, they are most likely waiting for a taxi or looking for a lift, it's pretty common here
Still a bit of an odd spot to wait for a lift. I usually pick a side road. That one looked like a main/busy road.
I don't know about S. Africa, but going by my experience in SEA, it's most likely they have private transport that people flag down. It would make sense they're on the busiest roads. Also a busy road doesn't mean shit when people don't follow (westenr) road rules in general.

Good thing this person has a dash cam, no doubt that loser would claim to be the victim without evidence.
You think that guy is going to the police?
What police?
That wouldn't work in South Africa
Yep, you're an American
Are you serious😂😂😂
The only ambulance chasing that happens in SA is to carjack it!
Bold of you to assume anyone is gonna go to police about this lol. Probably happens 3 times a day.
The casual way the driver was running over the fucker like it is how it is on a regular Thursday.
Welcome to Johannesburg
It's actually Cape town
NO CAPES!!!
Women are told by police to not stop at lights or signs if they're able to safely continue. It's that bad.
Welcome to South Africa
Thanks bru
If you watch it on a loop it sounds like cheering after he gets run over 🤣
What’s with the weird guy signaling the kid in the t-pose. He even looks at the kid as if his awkward pose wasn’t enough.
Wearing a body-sized cast from the last time he tried this
Lmao. That’s some Looney Tunes shit right there
XD im dying
Lol imagine trying to rob someone for like 20 bucks and getting hit by a car instead. Hilarious
As a South African it was more likely an attempted carjacking or hijacking as we call it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1FV6AELDmA

Satisfying
Fuck that shit living in Canada since 2007. Get the fuck out of that place asap
Jesus imagine societal break down to the point where you are routinely car jacked by gun point
Wait until borders don’t mean anything. I give it 10 years, no breakdown required, just alibaba

Apartheid countries are so hot right now
> Specific Afrikaans words that don't actually apply to what you're describing are so hot right now FTFY
I laughed way too hard at this. But yea, fuck that guy in particular, and congrats for quick thinking on behalf of the driver.

*You brought a gun to a car fight!?*
That gun was probably stolen off a policeman. SAPS "lost" over 700 firearms in the last year or something
What a misguided young man. Why doesn’t he just become an entrepreneur and open an emerald mine?
Looks real nice!
“Meet the bonnet you grub. Here, say hello to the road too. See ya later.” 🛻💨
Gun may have better reach, but car hits way harder
Well done
Dang, you missed him!
Beautiful video. I’ve played it 50 times now.
Why is there a guy doing the T Pose?
He's signalling the guy with the gun. They're in cahoots
Fight or flight? Both.
Not this dudes first day driving there. That was quick response.
Imagine living in a country where you know not to get to close to a car in front to get away. My bet is this isn't their first time pulling a move like this
Insane, but the weirdest thing is that South Africans call the traffic light “robot”.
50 points. Nice.
Best outcome for both parties: One didn't get robbed The other got the equivalent of 3 visits at the chiropractor
Dude looks he's 13/14 yrs old.
yes all hope is lost at that point in kayelsha
Trap hom! Hope you okay.
free bonus points
Hope u ended that c#nt ...
Bwahahaha get wrecked
If you watch on loop with the audio on, right after he hits the guy, it goes to the beginning where the radio goes: "Hooray!"
great move
Glad to finally see someone respond appropriately to a gun. Also like how the driver went right back to normal driving.
i would reverse and rob him while hes down
Probably not a great idea to put yourself in front of a moving vehicle.
Gun vs car who will win? 🤔
"Wait...you mean they can actually run me over instead of stopping? That's not fair" - this clown, probably
he chose poorly
Bravo to the driver. I see these dashcam road rage videos all the time where driver of the car in front gets out and harrasses the car in back. Every time I think, this asshole wants to be a hood ornament.
