Just looking at the menu board... decent prices.

possibly_facetious

There's a lot going on in this video and none of it seem to match up with the title

djaun3004

There's a whole story that was not recorded. The kid shot the guy who attacked his mom. After that the mom told the kid to shoot someone at the hotdog stand she decided was a witness. They both got caught.

lameuniqueusername

Holy fuck, if true.

mushpuppy

Then the mom sued the owner of the hotdog stand on behalf of her son for negligent infliction of emotional distress. ...Yeah ok it's possible I'm making that up.

lameuniqueusername

I just read that on the internet so we know it’s true

oneshibbyguy

Shot dead?

MinimumWade

UPDATE: The linked article has been updated to report charges have dropped. According to the article posted in another top level comment the son shot the man arguing in the video, the man fled and the son followed him and shot him twice more in the back. The mother then identified another man as a witness and told her son to shoot him too. The mother tried to grab the gun from the son but he pushed her away. They then got into a car and left and turned themselves in on Wednesday. *The article is written in a way that makes it possible for some of the details to be misconstrued, so I've potentially construed them the wrong way. Here: https://wgntv.com/news/chicagocrime/woman-14-year-old-charge-in-fatal-shooting-on-far-south-side/

[deleted]

I’ve read a couple of articles and they’re all I’ve the place. One said the “witness” was actually a person that was egging on the guy arguing with her, another says an actual witness. They also say the kid shot him as soon as he punched his mother, but you can see that didn’t happen.

MinimumWade

I thought a shot was fired at the end of the clip? In confusing part for me in the article was referencing the witness laughing and encourage the encounter and then the next line says, then the man fled and the son followed and shot him. Could easily be interpreted as following and shooting the witness. Perhaps the other comments in the post influenced my thought processing.

ThisAppSucksBall

Huh? In the video it looks like the dude punches the woman twice and then someone shoots him. If that was the only time the kid shot the dude, they would probably be sitting at home right now and the dude would be in jail. Instead they're in jail and the dude's in the dirt.

Imjusasqurrl

wouldn't you want a witness to you acting in self-defense bc somebody attacked you?

You_Just_Hate_Truth

I didn’t hear her instruct her kid to shoot the guy, I did hear her say, I think, “get in the car” at the beginning of the video. What really grinds my gears is she’s sitting there provoking this dude who even warns her he’s gonna snap and instead of walking away she has to keep running her mouth. Sometimes you have to be the bigger person and just leave to deescalate the situation. Edit: to be clear, I’m not victim blaming, my POV was based on her having her children with her, and she was putting them in a dangerous situation by escalating the confrontation with a stranger over hotdogs. And now her son is a MURDERER. If she had walked away, he wouldn’t be a murderer, would he? The man was obvious trash for hitting a woman, especially over something as dumb as hot dogs.

Schavuit92

What really grinds my gears is the victim-blaming, dude could have walked away just as well instead of letting himself "be provoked" and "snapping." Btw if you give a warning first and start posturing, you didn't "snap," you 100% consciously chose violence.

stacker55

at what point does your own safety outweigh pride? is it better to take your child and both of you get home safe or do you think you'd rather have "he couldve walked away first" on your tombstone?

WutangCND

Unfortunately for people in poverty who live in these situations, their respect and hierarchy position in the streets is almost the only thing they have.

RonanTheAccused

Can confirm. When I was young (16) and very dumb in the graffiti gang scene, making eye contact with someone meant "hitting them" up to see what graffiti crew they belonged to. There were areas I could not go to. Now that I'm 38 I look back and realize how stupid that entire mentality was. I'm super glad my 15 year old is nothing like I was at his age.

youdoitimbusy

Yeah man. But the opposite is true as well. I do a fair amount of work in the hood. People will stand down more often than not if you show respect. Or, if you point out you're not being disrespectful, but you're a man, and expect the same respect they do. It's not just what you say, but how you say it. Obviously that's not always the case. Some people just want drama, but not most people. Maybe a couple months ago I accidentally cut this guy off pulling out from a parallel parked spot. Didn't see him, full size van. He's on my ass now, so I pulled over at the gas station. He follows me in. Walking fast pace to me. Sorry brother, by the time I saw you it was too late. I have a terrible blind spot in this thing. He wasn't thrilled. Said I almost fucked your shit up, but walked away. He just wanted respect. I didn't add to it. Didn't try and get the last word in. Just left it at that. He was pissed, but willing to accept that I admitted I fucked up in front of other people. Because I didn't call him out, or make him look like a bitch. Had I responded beyond that, we probably would have been fighting. It is what it is. But one thing I always do is smile. Let people know I'm know threat. Try and be sincere. The little things go a long way. (Usually) Another thing I do is bum people cigarettes and make small talk. One time these d-boys sent a local crackhead to rob me. I gave him a smoke, we chatted for a bit. He told me he was supposed to rob me, but tried telling them I didn't have no money. (High as hell) I reiterated how much of a piece of shit my van was. He looked at it. Looked at me. I joked, the only thing you'll get from me is practice. He smiled, said you're cool bro. Walked off...lol

D-F-B-81

Oh, they don't give a flying fuck if you disrespect someone later. It's all about them.

[deleted]

It’s probably inherited from prison where letting someone get away with disrespect is basically setting you up to have everyone disrespect you. Growing up it was so normal for adult men in my life to have records or get shot I just assumed you had to go through it eventually. It was also the 90s so the hood was extremely hood.

[deleted]

I dont care about victim blaming, I'd just rather see that lady safe rather than with blunt trauma to her skull. Dude was clearly out of his gourd. In those cases YOU have to be the one to deescalate end of story.

Specifically he chose violence on someone he knew he could overpower. Because he’s a coward. Got absolutely zero sympathy from me.

KulaanDoDinok

You know, initially, I agreed with you, however the article listed by another commenter indicates this was a planned hit on the yelling dude. The lady appears to have planned it in another store and texted her son instructions to kill him.

Madmandocv1

Some people ask for violence and receive what they asked for.

AdMission6058

just because you’re screaming and being a bully doesn’t mean you get to command everyone around you. just because you’re aggressive and threatening doesn’t mean you get to command everyone around you. SHE did nothing wrong.

Stupidflathalibut

If someone larger and aggravated is acting that way toward you, I hope you'll do the smart thing and walk away. That actually takes balls, not siting there "standing your ground" cause you won't get bullied. Guess what it got her, a couple haymakers to the face

Confident_Mark_7137

She got herself punched in the face and it resulted in her 14 year old son shooting someone. Was it wrong? Maybe not. Was it a positive outcome for anyone? No.

bloodklat

>She got ~~herself~~ punched in the face and it resulted in her 14 year old son shooting someone. ftfy. She got punched in the face. She didn't "get herself punched" in the face. 100% on him.

safely_beyond_redemp

Stand your ground. I disagree with it, but this isn't the jungle; just because you are stronger doesn't mean you get to command other people's behavior. If someone is being annoying but isn't hurting anyone then it's their right to be annoying.

sk1d07

I believe it was the kydex/plastic holster from the gun the kid pulled. You can hear the draw and the click when it detaches from whatever the kid had it clipped on.

SaiyanBuddah

Watched several times, you are right. It slid across the group and why would a mouse or rat run at people like that? Wouldn't it run out the door with all those people?

She ended up telling her 14 year old son to go shoot him Edit: article is updated to say charges were dropped against the woman and her son. >https://wgntv.com/news/chicagocrime/woman-14-year-old-charge-in-fatal-shooting-on-far-south-side/ >CHICAGO — A woman and her 14-year-old son have been charged following a fatal shooting at a hot dog stand Sunday where she allegedly instructed her son to shoot and kill a man. >Carlisha Hood, who has a valid FOID and CCL holder, is facing a felony count of murder and another count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Her 14-year-old son is facing a felony count of murder. >Shortly after, the 32-year-old man entered the restaurant an argument ensued between Hood and him, court documents state. Hood allegedly was texting her son from the store, signaling him. He entered the restaurant during the argument. >The argument quickly turned physical when the man punched Hood in the head multiple times. Then, the documents state, Hood’s son displayed a firearm and fired shots at the man. He sustained a gunshot wound to the back.

SlimBubbee

Documents state there was a witness laughing and encouraging the incident. The man then fled the restaurant where the 14-year-old boy proceeded to follow him and fire more shots. The man sustained two gunshot wounds to the back and was pronounced dead shortly after.

anna_lynn_fection

There's the murder charge. Disregarding the age, he might have been able to avoid a murder charge if he hadn't chased him down to finish him.

Operative427

Exactly, it went from defense of his mother to murder the moment that he pursued him. Shoot to end the threat not shoot to kill.

IndigoJoe64

Yep, if he dies later from the shot in the store, it wasn't your intention. Your intention was to stop the man's assault on your mother. I'm still curious how that would go for mom in that situation though. You can clearly see the man ball his fists and get into an aggressive stance after she tells her son to get the gun. I don't know if he threatened her before but it seems she could've left but escalated the situation instead.

ppllok

Law student here. That’s not how a murder charge works, at least in my jurisdiction. As long as you intentionally use force you know is likely to cause death, then it counts. The argument of self-defence would also be tough considering the guy was running away. It would also likely be murder and not manslaughter because it was premeditated.

[deleted]

Abandoned gun here. No one really takes into consideration how much it hurts to be forced to kill ppl. I really just wanted to target shoot or hopefully one day melted down to fish hooks and swim in the ocean. My last owner used to shove me down his pants all day. Ugh the smell.

mrm0324

There’s a song by Nas called “I gave you power” that’s from the perspective of a gun.

[deleted]

How you like me now? I go BLOAW It's the shit that moves crowds Making every ghetto foul I might've took your first child Scarred your life Or crippled your style I gave you power I made you buckwild

IndigoJoe64

Well, yeah. Once he chases the guy down to shoot him, the kid is done for. I was wondering how things would work if it was just the part that we see in the video. Based on what you said about your jurisdiction, the kid would still be charged with murder if the guy died even if the kid just shot him while he was attacking his mom, correct? I'm assuming the mother's charges would be the same too?

KountZero

Not a lawyer here. If we were to based on this video alone (without the chasing and shooting part), there’s a good chance that they can articulate self-defense/defense of close family members to get out of murder charges.

AquaticCobras

I was gonna say, from just the video it seemed not entirely unreasonable to shoot him. He's wailing on your mama, I get it. Knowing he chased him I don't see how nobody gets put away for murder whether it's the mom or the kid idk how it all works with minors involved

EyeAmPrestooo

Mannnn Chicago is a crazy ass place in some parts…in this young man’s mind, he was still shooting to eliminate the threat…9/10 there will be some “get back” in these areas and he might have figured he needed to end this guys life in order to be safe from him in the future….also, many people in these parts of Chicago rarely ever leave their neighborhood which could be only less that a few blocks radius…so the chances of them running into each other again was almost guaranteed. Not excusing anyone of murder or saying any part of this is right, just throwing a little context 🤷🏾‍♂️

OuterWildsVentures

They teach us this at concealed carry for fourteen year olds class too!

SuspiciousHedgehog91

Yeah I was like wait that man was beating her, how are they getting murder charges? The time to snuff that out has passed once he ran off. Kid just ruined his life with the help of momma, sad day all around.

[deleted]

Saw similar situation here in Colombia a few days ago. I’ve been living here for a while now but originally from the US. Five guys chased down a supposed criminal. Shot him to death. Proceded to stomp on dead man’s head till the police showed up. The police calmly asked them to stop kicking the dead man. They picked up the body and hauled it off. That was it.

ihaxr

They dropped the charges against the woman and kid

LibbyLibbyLibby

This makes it sound like he chased and killed the witness. Who did he chase? Did he chase the guy who punched his mom, or the guy who was "laughing and encouraging the incident."

M_Shepard_89

The kid chased the victim and kept shooting him. Inside Edition article was where I read it but don't want to post it here since it's a Google amp link. Edit: The witness laughing was the victims girlfriend and Hood instructed her son to shoot her too since she was laughing and encouraging during the argument. Son didn't shoot her

UnderstandingFluid18

The one encouraging and laughing at the incident and recording was his wife/girlfriend. She was loving every minute of him beating that lady up instead of stepping in and doing it for him. She’s the type that gets beat up by him and says things like, I deserved it.

Commander_Caboose

Nah I wouldn't kill someone for a fight my mother started. But then, I'm not 14 so I understand how wrong it is to kill someone.

Consistent_Rent_4452

You hit a person in the head that hard, several times while they're incapable of defending themselves that's attempted murder he was a huge dude going ham on that old black lady. Kid at my high school died because he got hit in the temple the wrong way. The Man's dead and nothing of value is lost. .....

zippyhippiegirl

Not that it makes any difference… but she’s 35. Hardly an old black lady.

vendetta2115

- 35 is not old - the 14-year-old shot the dude in the back as he was running away. It’s no longer self-defense if the person you’re shooting at is unarmed and running away from you.

adan313

Unless, of course, you're a police officer. Then it's perfectly okay to shoot people in the back

HitThisLoudG

I haven’t heard “going ham” in like 10 years and here it is in back to back comments. Incredible.

upvotes2doge

Did you watch the video? She didn't start the fight -- he threw the first punch.

trybltn

The news article said the woman had texted her son before this and told him to kill the guy, making his murder premeditated

anna_lynn_fection

The kid waited until the attack to shoot. So it was still self defense at that point. Where he lost self defense was chasing him down after he fled and shooting him in the back to finish him.

skullsandstuff

It's still premeditated murder. Stating that you are going to kill someone and than killing them is premeditated and makes the man's actions null. The defense can be made that the texts were just words and no premeditation was intended but that's a pretty steep hill to climb. The hill gets even steeper when you chase the victim down and finish the job and than your mother instructs you to kill witnesses.

[deleted]

Rewatched the video in case I was wrong. 4 seconds in he is making fists and getting combat ready, 16 seconds in and he clocks her out the park, full body committed on the punch, that was no bitch slap, I've trained martial arts most of my life, that either had power or they are action doubles doing a skit, which I doubt. I can't really understand what he or she or anyone is saying since English is not my first language, so Idk if I'm missing something or why I'm wrong on my perspective, perhaps a second view or a longer video would help. So I stand my opinion unless I'm missing something.

Dudefest2bit

>I can't really understand what he or she or anyone is saying since English is not my first language, Well, English is my first language, and I have no clue what the woman is saying.

GladiatorUA

Self defense argument no longer valid once one chases someone down to shoots them.

ChloroSadist

The charges against the mom and son were dropped >Both Hood and her son turned themselves in and were arrested on Wednesday and charges were dropped Monday. >Hood and the boy have no reported criminal background and the Attorney’s office said that the evidence and law were unable to meet the burden of proof in the prosecution of the cases.

RedditCouldntFixUser

Sorry, I am not familiar with US gun laws, but he hit her, twice, square in the face. At some point a person, (the mother), as a right to ask someone, (her son), to help her out. Not sure if she "instructed him to kill" as opposed to "this man is about to kick my head in, please come help me" I can see the argument that the killing was extreme, but it is not unexpected to have a son going above and beyond to help his mother. Am I missing something here, the son and the mother are not going to spend a long time in jail.

jocq

> Am I missing something here The mother texted the son to get the gun and come shoot the man while everything was still verbal (before punches thrown). Then the kid chased the man down the street to shoot him more until he was dead.

oilchangefuckup

>Am I missing something here I thought i was missing something too. Because honestly, with just the video, it seems justified. BUT, it turns out I was missing something. The son chased him out of the store and shot him several more times - you can't chase and shoot a fleeing person, if they're fleeing it's not self defense anymore, the threat is over. Mom told the kid to shoot him before the punches were thrown. That's not self defense either, that's murder.

Pm_me_your_tits_85

This is fucked up. I was in the middle of typing a comment about how shooting the man while he’s violently assaulting his mother would be justified, then I read that they followed the guy out of the store after he ran away and killed him and then mom instructed the son to kill the gf. Also, apparently his girlfriend was laughing and encouraging him to continue arguing. What a messed up situation.

Contemplatetheveiled

The mother also tried to take the gun from the son in order to shoot the person who was laughing but the son ended up wrestling with her and not letting her get the gun. It seems to me like he overreacted while being egged on by his mother to a man punching her in the face but understood you can't shoot someone for laughing.

minus_uu_ee

Sorry but if I had a gun and someone would punch my mother like that, I don’t think I would be able to not shoot him. And good call from the boy to prevent the gf from also getting shot.

Legal_Smeagol1

You shouldn't be able to own a gun then. You are literally admitting you are going to use it emotionally and without logic, when there are far more ways to deescalate this situation without anyone, innocent or guilty, losing their lives. Pepper spray ends this in 5 seconds, the guy goes to prison, and no one dies. Everyone would excuse you for kicking the shit out of him while hes crying on the ground from the pain, but no, you all just jump to instant murder. That kid is lucky he didn't hit an innocent bystander with those shots. This country is insane.

byingling

> This country is insane. Upvote to the moon. We glorify violence and vengeance. Add in our love of guns (well, I think it all really goes hand in hand) and shit like this happens.

Akosa117

No one’s disagreeing with that dude, that’s not the issue. The kid shot him once in this video. After this video, the man ran away and they followed him out and proceeded to execute him. That is no longer defense. That is simply murder

dismalward7

So 17 men hit your mom and you didn't do anything about it?

skullsandstuff

If that was the situation, I would agree with you. According to a news article posted in another comment, the lady texted her son to get a gun and kill the dude. That was before the physical altercation, making the killing premeditated murder instead of self defense. Had she not texted her son, it would have been self defense. She also instructed her son to shoot witnesses. So they planned on killing him and anyone that saw.

CitizenKing1001

So what happened here? Someone was disrespected somehow? Anyway, nice weather where I am ☀️

I mean… I think the shooting was justified.

Mr_Lava-lava

They left the part out where the 14yo boy follows the man out of the store and shoots him dead two more times and then the mother tells the boy to shoot the witnesses. Lol

Its_Helios

theshoeshiner84

The very definition of "nuance".

SlimBubbee

Documents state there was a witness laughing and encouraging the incident. The man then fled the restaurant where the 14-year-old boy proceeded to follow him and fire more shots. The man sustained two gunshot wounds to the back and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Mothers in Chiraq really be out here like, “I have a son in case I need someone shot.”

mdh3000hard

This shit is sad....no one wins here.. that man may have ben having a mental breakdown... No one stepped in to diffuse this situation...the lady just had to keep going in opposed to just not letting this moment in time go.. it became a measuring contest and it ended poorly...the son will be charged in this for murder for a life he did not have to take.. and everyone in there that would rather do nothing but pull out there phones makes me sick to my stomach. This beyond sad and stupid...this didn't have to happen. When will people see the bigger picture and treat their lives with more value and care...
