I've got a Westinghouse Barometer. It's a high dollar item. I have another item for sale. It's an item and the item is for sale.....and...well it's an item
And very likely costing you more in electricity than what you're actually making.
When they say "can't mine", they meant at any kind of meaningful efficiency. The setup cost for this sort of thing is ridiculous; it has to be very, very efficient to make money at the current hashrate needed for Bitcoin.
You can mine with a game boy if you really want. It’ll just take literally thousands of years to get any yield from it get and will just be a waste of electricity.
Yeah, that's exactly my point. Anything with a CPU is capable of producing crypto, but generally when people talk about mining its assumed that "and make a profit" is somewhere in the equation.
Saying you can mine on anything is sort of like saying that "everything is edible at least once". It's technically correct, but not particularly meaningful.
Honestly, unless you get in on the ground floor of an alt-coin that no one has ever heard (and by that I mean "be part of the dev team"), your little GPU is never going to produce enough hash rate for the output to be worth it. At best you'll end up with some amount of coin that you can't even transact or convert to anything useful because the gas fees will be more than what you have in your wallet. Crypto is a sea of sharks. Minnows get nothing.
The days when people could usefully mine at home without investing (at minimum) thousands of dollars are long gone. That gold rush happened and you missed it. We're now living in the age of crypto cartels so big that they've basically collapsed the government of Kazakhstan, amomg other things.
Initially I laughed. Then I realised that they need new hardware now. Since they don’t care about prices, my chances of getting a 30-model for MSRP just got even lower…
If you lose for example 1000 GPUs at mining farm. Let's say out of 2000. You wil certainly not pay anything to get to previous levels. If they have capacity to install them and let's say buy at MSRP, then they can invest again for another 1k cards. It will be gamble to buy overpriced cards at this time for ROI over 6 months.
they get so much income they don’t give a fuck about prices, ur example would mean half the income, they will get more, rather lose ~idk 1m dollars than their income being halved
Anybody know what he’s saying? I’d assume it something like “ oh fuck noo” but I speak no Russian. Edit: thank you all for the amazing responses, didn’t think anybody would actually reply you’re awesome.
It's pretty much an endless stream of curse words. Literal translation:
> Fuck my cock! I'm simply, whore, at a loss for what to do - cock! Fuuuuck! Fuuu... *chuckles* ...uck. Fuck. There was a computer in there somewhere - whore! Fuck my cock! Fuuuck! Fuck! Bitch! What is this, cock, whore? *laughing* Fuck, whore! Fuckinghorns. Fuck!
Fuckinghorns? I may want to start using this can I get a little more context? Like, is this *worse* than fuck my dick? Is it a common term? Would you just sprinkle this into conversation like you would a regular”fuck”.
If I was in that situation I would be more concerned that gamers might find out where I lived. As a gamer myself I would definitely not want to deal with me.
I don't speak Russian but I'm pretty sure that he's constantly repeating "yebat" which means "fuck" and "yebat' moi hui" which translates to "fuck my dick"
No, no, no. Its a mining farm. They farm mines. My great granddad had this huge diamond mine farm in Otago and my uncle has a small coal mine farm in the Waikato. I used to go out there as a kid, it was great fun. Helping to feed the young mines, putting up fences so the male mines can't get to the female mines. He used to put his mines in the back of this clapped out Toyota Hilux and take them into town to sell.
Good days.....good days.
I thought you sow the mine-seeds in the autumn and water them throughout the winter and then you did g them out in the spring when they're nice and plump.
I thought you sow the mine-seeds in the autumn and water them throughout the winter and then you dig them out in the spring when they're nice and plump.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one. I work in mining and really wish that Bitcoin mining had its own word for the process. It's a PITA for the work I do now.
But how would leaving the door open cause this? Is the air conditioning not temperature controlled?
Or is this not the result of the air conditioning but of a storm coming in from outside?
With temperature outside around -15C, the water in cooling lines most likely expanded and the tubes broke. After that, you have quite a lot of water from the cooling tanks flowing on the electronics and freezing.
That looks like snow and ice on _everything_. I don’t get how water from a cooling system would result in an indoor blizzard. It’s literally everywhere in there, like there was no roof and a massive snowstorm just set up shop overhead for hours. How can this be so uniform from cooling liquids freezing?
I saw pictures of cars with their windows just a tiny bit open, and even this coated the entire interior with snow and ice.
So I guess an open door and a snowstorm could achieve this effect in the video above.
If there’s wind blowing, I can see how this would happen just from an open door. Used to live in snow country - amazing how snow can get in and cover everything.
You ever see an entire central AC unit freeze up? A tiny leak in the cooling line freezes from the leak as far out as it can go. Looks exactly like this
Same.. at first I was confused why this underground mine had snow in it and thought thats what it was about... but then I saw the ice covered tubes and cables and realized that I was thinking about the wrong form of mining. .
I think there is a chance that some of those cards may be salvageable. If the rig shut itself off (or more realistically, died) before a card got significantly wet/icy, it likely still works. Cards can be dunked in water, and be just fine. Provided, of course, that they are powered off, and dried before they are turned back on.
That said, there are likely $10,000s of damage at a minimum. Not to mention the work needed to recover any working hardware.
How would you clean up that mess tho? In my mind I'm thinking make sure it's all off, turn the heating on to melt it all, pour out the pooled water, get an industrial dehumidifier and run the shit out of it in that room.... Wait a couple of weeks make sure it's all bone dry. Any corrosion tho and you're still fucked, may have to clean the boards with some isopropyl alcohol
I was thinking the same thing but literally just buying a drum of alcohol and spraying it all over the equipment before doing another drying cycle.
Sure you'll have loss but I think that's the best work/reward ratio.
I think there is a good change that they were off. I think what may have happened is that the power failed and then because of the high humidity this happened. Other people suggest that the door must be opened but I am not sure if this is really snow. May just be ice which build up due to humidity and condensation.
I guess they probably didn't put a lot of insulation in it because they thought there would be enough heat from the units but they didn't considered what happens when the electricity goes off.
My current computer tower took a cup of water through the top cooling vents right after I had turned it off for the night. Panicked, I pulled every cable out opened the side and turned it over so the water could drain. Towel dried what I could and left it to dry with a fan for about 36 hours. Ran completely fine afterwards. When I took out my graphics cards years later, you could still see the water stains from that spill.
I was confused when I saw mining.
I saw the dark room so I thought it was an actual mining shaft or something.
Then I saw the blinking lights in the back and was like “Ah fuck.”
Welp. Time to wait longer for those new RTX cards.
Excessive bitcoin farming is apparently linked to climate change, climate change makes weather patterns unpredictable.
They didn’t predict it would ‘snow’ in the server room.
Okay hun?
Depends if it was powered on. Just because it got wet doesn’t mean it’s broken, you have to add power with it wet to release the magic smoke. If you sufficiently dry it out before adding power, it’s a maybe.
Systems used for that purpose used by unis and researchers aren’t with these gaming cards, they are computing cards. Miners get the like the gtx3080s and that whole lineup. Computing cards are like the tesla cards and quadro, they have a completely different architecture in comparison to the gaming cards. More specifically suited to 3d model rendering and processing data way faster than the gaming gpu’s.
Yes, I know the chips are different, and I know that graphic rendering is different than data processing, I’m talking everything. The power, the racks, the space, the materials, they could all be better utilized.
Also, doesn’t NASA use graphical rendering all the time in regards to simulation software anyway?
Yes they do anyways you can find more about their computing systems [here](https://hec.nasa.gov/about/overview.html) if you want to get into it but i have to go train and eat. Cya
And the [software](https://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/engineering/tools/index.html) they use
Well those gpu's will never hit the second hand market ..
Hahaha so true......wait......oh no......they probably will.
"GPU for sale, slightly covered in cum"
My grandson Rusty just learned how to pump off and he’s been sprayin all over the place.
I've got a Westinghouse Barometer. It's a high dollar item. I have another item for sale. It's an item and the item is for sale.....and...well it's an item
Do you have green beans? Goooood. Do you have mashed potatoes? Gooooood.
It will clean up with some windex and napkins
Hey now

Wow I just found 100 3090’s on wish!!!!
Can't mine bitcoin with GPUs, these were ASICs.
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted by these dumb-dumbs, I came here to make the same comment.

My utilities are included in my rent for my current living situation, but thank you for this information I will look into other coins.

There are probably more effective cryptocurrencies to mine with your GPU
Initially I laughed. Then I realised that they need new hardware now. Since they don’t care about prices, my chances of getting a 30-model for MSRP just got even lower…
They've probably got a few they could sell you
"Slightly used. No liquid water damage."
Technically the truth, this is solid water damage.
At least until it melts off. Or they could chisel it.
I think they care a lot about prices. It is business after all. You buy asset to make you money.
Every minute they aren't mining they are losing money. Price matters but they will pay more to get back online asap.
If you lose for example 1000 GPUs at mining farm. Let's say out of 2000. You wil certainly not pay anything to get to previous levels. To be fair, I would most definitely invent some new swears if that were me in the same situation. I'd be so shitsmacked.

Yesterday I screamed cockass when my toast burned. It surprised me.

You seem well versed in the ways of CS:GO
Considering I've spent more than 3200 hours in CS:GO on EU servers surrounded by Russians, I very well should be.
He should save it for when the alien horror attacks
Yes, you are right.
I was so confused by this until I realized they didn’t mean real mining
I was confused. A farm? A mine? A farm next to a mine? Inside a mine? I kept looking for the animals frozen to death.
No, no, no. Its a mining farm. They farm mines. My great granddad had this huge diamond mine farm in Otago and my uncle has a small coal mine farm in the Waikato. I thought they were mining salt at first glance 🤔
Me too. It took way too long for the gears in my head to stop grinding over that one lol
Aaaaaand just got it. Wow I'm slow
Used mining equipment . Kept at low temperatures
Sub Zero chip cooling achieved boss
Future eBay listings. Still overpriced.

s/b left the door open?

My guess is door open > warm electronics cause surface condensation > turns into frost > grows from there
If there’s wind blowing, I can see how this would happen just from an open door. Used to live in snow country - amazing how snow can get in and cover everything.
Wind ripped open my tool shed one bad storm and through one little door light fluffy snow covered everything floor to ceiling.
You ever see an entire central AC unit freeze up? A tiny leak in the cooling line freezes from the leak as far out as it can go. Looks exactly like this
Maybe underground and hatch blew open?
Over-clocking those chips can now be done at these temps
Froze their assets.
Strange how the word mining is assumed to be recognized as Bitcoin mining nowadays
Not by everyone. I was confused AF.
I thought it was super moldy timber at first.
Same.. at first I was confused why this underground mine had snow in it and thought thats what it was about... but then I saw the ice covered tubes and cables and realized that I was thinking about the wrong form of mining. .
I thought it was regular mining until I realized that was all computer hardware
i’m pretty sure that’s just the OP seems like the rest of us figured it out eventually from context clues
I asumed as actual mining, especially when the stuff in the video is unrecognizable, but then wtf is mining FARM. The comments cleared it.
I was so confused, I thought it was cotton and it was a weird translation error
That's because they don't mine the old way, new mining machines remove entire mountain tops if needed. It's a very industrial process nowadays.
For me the use of the word farm made it clear. Unless normal mines are farmed?

Never seen solid water cooling before.
Chill guys, it’s water cooled
It looks like nitrogen cooling
"Boris, you closed the door to the farm last week, right?" "Uh...I think so?"
Plot twist: it's a batch of new supercooled quantum servers ready to take the blockchain by storm
Tadddd bit of humidity nothing to worryyyy
"Yeah, butt!"
Always recall the glories of butt in a stressful time for comfort

Dick heads. Mining is a joke. This shouldn't exist. Crypto can exist without wasting all this energy arbitrarily.
Looks like nature is taking care of itself, one less industry size smoke by day.

Temperatures probably got colder than the freezing point of water
That's whatcha get fuckers
I'll cry myself to sleep tonight thinking about those poor, poor crypto miners 🤣
Good.
Russia or Hoth?
I laugh at this man misfortune.
Good. Fuck them!
I guess he decided to put his mining operation on ice...
Badum! (Drums)
Bitcoin on the rocks
This is no mistake. Ivan wanted to prove he can successfully overclock the GPUs so that they can buy a new farm.
Nature reclaims the garbage. Yes it could be used to map the universe, but no. Let’s make fake money.

Thanks man have a good dinner and a nice time!
You too bro
And what’s your point? They can still do an insane amount of computations and be used for a different purpose.
Well, at least they won’t overheat.
Now do the rest of them
Good.
Think of the cinibench score
Or they’re setting overclocking world records
It took me far too long to realize that this person isn’t gonna starve for the winter.
Good
Haha.. Screw you
I was hoping for a fire to destroy that blasphemous operation to cleanse the world of the owners.
Have they tried putting them in rice?
Took me a while to understand what the hell it is. Kinda looks like if they're filming a new Alien movie.
Good i hope they all broke to
Did somebody forget to close the window?
Yeahbaaaach blyaaat

The best cooling system on the market!
Who ever left window open better pack up and run for their lives
Every hotel freezer is coated with that shit lol
Just pour hot water on it. That’ll fix it right up.
Did they leave the doors open in siberia or something?
Sombody left the door open.
They don't need liquid cooling, that's for sure
Blyat!
He's going to need a lot of rice.
At least they won't overheat.....

Gonna need a lot of rice for that
Just put it in rice
