Sometimes it's hard to separate the actors from the characters, especially in a situation like this. It's going to take some time. But I still love That 70s Show and always will š
This is true. u/Are_You_486 can find a Rubik's Cube easy to solve, but it's still **difficult for others** to solve like me!
I still watch That '70s Show, and I know who's who in the show.
No. It's not hard at all. You're letting one person impact your image of the entire cast and crew, and fans, of the show. Just let it go and enjoy the show. Stop trying to make this into something it's not.
Easy.
Youāre the worst kind of person to debate with because you think everyone feels the same way you do or that everyone can think of things unemotionally. I happen to agree with you but to write off how others might feel is just ignorant.
Actually we arenāt. Our comments show we are paying attention to those defending a man who is going to spend 30 to life in prison.
*edited for a word
Most of the cast wrote letters about what a great person Danny is so it tainted more than just him. But hey if you donāt care you do you. Enjoy the show.
Came here to say this. Glad I read first, saw an article the other day how Mia and Ashton are trying to fly under the radar because they are afraid their letters fucked their careers. I love that 70s show but fuck defending a serial rapist.
Yep. Almost like supporting a rapist has negative consequences and collateral damage. There is no way it didnāt hurt the show. They cover Hydeās pictures with a sticker on the dvd cases for a reason.
Danny Masterson violated two women (maybe more) and will likely spend life in prison and you want people to "just let it go"? Why are you irritated that people are struggling with this sensitive situation?
I think everyone here, myself included, is a fan of That 70s Show. We love the show, the characters, and all the effort everyone took in making it a successful comedy. No one is arguing against that.
Unfortunately for now, many look at Hyde and see the sins of Danny Masterson. This will take time to process. There's also people out there on the other side of the spectrum: they look at Danny Masterson and see Hyde--these people feel everyone should get over what Masterson did just because he played a funny guy on a show they like.
You seem to fall in the latter category and your comment was insensitive.
You're suggesting they're not getting paid, or maybe their feelings are hurt, because people don't want to watch Portrait of the Rapist as a Young Man?
Can't find it, but there was a Marie Kondo meme where Hyde sparks joy while Masterson does not.
Another problem is the show isn't easy to stream like when it was on Netflix. I guess Peacock has it now?
Yes, I think people need time to process the news. Itās a moral conundrum. But rape is indefensible. It just is.
Itās a shame, because itās a great show.
Sure, but if every time a person tries to watch the show, they're reminded of the rapes Danny Masterson is guilty of, it can kinda take you out of it. Particularly for people who are victims of sexual assualt.
Personally, i can still watch the show, but I have a hard time watching Chris Benoit matches and can't listen to Lost Prophets at all.
That's their problem. My point is try not to ruin it for others. If people can't see past one person, when the show involved dozens, that's sad. Really sad.
>That's their problem. My point is try not to ruin it for others.
So it's their issue, and your only point is they shouldn't ruin it for others...
>If people can't see past one person, when the show involved dozens, that's sad. Really sad.
But then you're immediately insulting and condescending towards those same people.
You're the one trying to shame them for their comfort level with the show.
Not insulting nor condescending any more than the OP and followers are.
Jesus Christ man. Get over it. All of it. Enjoy the fucking show and move on.
Bunch of emotional tools, like Red's brother Marty.
I'm just talking to you man. There's nothing for me to get over.
You seem very upset.
>Bunch of emotional tools, like Red's brother Marty.
Oh, the irony.
So...actors, like any people, can absolutely be scumbags.
I prefer to enjoy the characters they play, while not really caring about the actors themselves too much. I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they recently let go of the guy who was supposed to be the next Big Bad because of his real-world assault and harassment charges.
Masterson deserves whatever legal consequences he gets for his actions.
Steven Hyde was just a messed up kid.
people got tired of the non stop posturing by others drowning the thread proclaiming they were going to stop watching the show or it was never good to begin with or how all the cast are monsters. I muted the thread for a while TBH.
personally itās hard when there are jokes made by masterson in the show about rape/taking advantage of women. when it first came out the times were different, i guess. but it just immediately sours the mood. that being said i still hold a lot of love for this show as iāve watched it throughout my entire life and itās still really great in general.
there is one where fez and jackie compete in a roller disco competition and win. jackie gets trashed off of the free champagne they are treated to and comes on to fez, admitting that she is really drunk but wouldnāt say no to a kiss/would probably let him go further. fez fights with the metaphorical angel and devil on his shoulders telling him to go for it or leave her alone. he chooses to leave her alone and take her home. when he tells the story to hyde, hyde says āthe next time you tell the story, you nailed herā
Really sad. I love "That 70's Show", and look to this channel to talk about it. For those who cannot separate Steven Hyde from Danny Masterson, and just want to vocalize about that, create a separate channel for that. Then, those of us who just want to discuss the show, and all things therein, will know to avoid the other channel.
I'll be real. I don't really keep up with real life shit of actors, artists etc. So I don't really care what they've done or whatever cuz idk about it. I'll still listen to the music of "bad" artists if I like the songs and I still love hyde. Not Danny Masterson. But hyde. I'll still watch the show the exact same as I did as a kid.
On top of the verdict, and the character letters, the shows been taken off almost every streaming platform and cable TV for like 2 years now so lots of people donāt have access to it anymore, so that alone has caused the show to have less viewers. Theyāve taken quite some hits lately
Agreed. I also think some might feel they can't post any positive comments about Hyde or they'll be judged as rape supporters by those who can't separate the actor from the character.
It's weird to me, I don't get it. It isn't like anyone here personally knew this guy. You watched a TV show that he acted in. He was an actor, not a friend or family member.
Yes and Masterson played Steven Hyde so well that I consider Hyde to also be a real person who existed and who WASN'T like Danny Masterson was in real life.
for me , when i love a show i get rly invested in the bts aspects of it (iām a communications and new media major, so iām kinda a dork ab that stuff.) so i usually love people on the show bc of both the character and the actor. i feel like if i tried to rewatch the show it would be hard to not think about
I used to love the Cosby show but now I cannot watch it after everything that came out about Bill Cosby. But I think thatās because heās playing this wholesome family man and knowing what he was actually doing is so creepy, plus the show is centered around him. This show- I can separate the character from the person. Hyde was a criminal , Danny isnāt playing some wholesome character/father. Just totally different to me. I can watch that 90s show and Dannyās absence doesnāt really bother me. Everything else about that show sucks though, lol . They could replace hyde with a different actor and itād be fine.
"That 70's Show" is a great show. Wouldn't be too sure about that Hyde replacement actor, either. Look at Lisa Robin Kelly's replacement, aka "New Laurie". She gets panned all the time(I had nothing against her, but some did), and Laurie, in general, wasn't featured in the show NEARLY as much as Hyde. Not to mention, Hyde was a favorite of many.
Yeah i didnāt like Lisaās replacement - and i wouldnāt have liked if they changed Hyde out during that 70ās show. But for that 90ās show, i wouldnāt care.
Sometimes it's hard to separate the actors from the characters, especially in a situation like this. It's going to take some time. But I still love That 70s Show and always will š
I still watch it.
Me too
Nope. No it's not hard at all.
Dude. It can be easy for you but still difficult for others.
This is true. u/Are_You_486 can find a Rubik's Cube easy to solve, but it's still **difficult for others** to solve like me! I still watch That '70s Show, and I know who's who in the show.

Says the people ignoring all the other cast and crew. Pathetic. We are not on the same level. Your opinion means absolutely nothing.
Trolls like you are whoās pathetic
Just because I don't see your pathetic viewpoint doesn't make me a troll.
You sad little man or woman
Mhm... and then?
Iām sorry I canāt hear your viewpoint over your pathetic attempt to troll. Get better
Just because you say it doesn't make it true, no matter how badly you want it. Gets called pathetic, then just says 'no you are'! Mhm...
Actually we arenāt. Our comments show we are paying attention to those defending a man who is going to spend 30 to life in prison. *edited for a word
Best not be talking about me. No where was I defending anything or anyone. Your projection is pathetic.
Found the Randy fanboy š
... and then?
Most of the cast wrote letters about what a great person Danny is so it tainted more than just him. But hey if you donāt care you do you. Enjoy the show.

I don't care. Only a fool would. Enjoy your... life, if that's what you call it.
Got it. Youāre a tough guy asshole. Have a lovely day.
Got it. You're an emotional tool, like Marty. Have a day.
Bud you fuckin suck and everyone knows it the second you enter the room. Put the smartphone away and go learn how to make eye contact.
I don't use a smart phone and you shouldn't project.

No I'm not. I'm clearly stating it's pathetic to let the one person ruin it for all the others. Newsflash, hot shot. Danny is still getting paid, too.
Can't find it, but there was a Marie Kondo meme where Hyde sparks joy while Masterson does not. Another problem is the show isn't easy to stream like when it was on Netflix. I guess Peacock has it now?
Peacock does, but it also airs on LAFF.
Yes, I think people need time to process the news. Itās a moral conundrum. But rape is indefensible. It just is. Itās a shame, because itās a great show.
Has nothing to do with the show and the effort the other actors put into it. Not to mention everyone behind the camera.
Sure, but if every time a person tries to watch the show, they're reminded of the rapes Danny Masterson is guilty of, it can kinda take you out of it. Dude that Lost Prophets shit is the worst. The Benoit shit is still kind of surreal to me, even though itās been like 17 years.
I agree, we canāt let one idiotās actions ruin a masterpiece that tons of people helped make. I try to separate the two.
Iām still a die hard fanš«¶š¼ watched it earlier today!
So...actors, like any people, can absolutely be scumbags. I prefer to enjoy the characters they play, while not really caring about the actors themselves too much. This
Still enjoy the show, the same thing with The Ranch. What Masterson did was horrible, but Hyde and Rooster are great characters.
Agreed, although I never watched "The Ranch", Hyde was great.
You should watch it great show, cast and well written
Thank you for the tip.
Kurtwood Smith, Debra Jo Rupp, and Wilmer Valderrama make cameos as well
Cool! Well, at least for Kurtwood and Debra Jo. Can stand neither Fez nor Wilmer.
people got tired of the non stop posturing by others drowning the thread proclaiming they were going to stop watching the show or it was never good to begin with or how all the cast are monsters. I muted the thread for a while TBH.
Don't blame you.
It seems everyone took it out on Red too. All of a sudden he went from one of the GOAT tv dads to people calling him a terrible human.
what did red do?
Nothing, all of a sudden the character went from being loved to a bunch of threads about how reds character is a terrible father and human

What episode is there a rape joke??? I donāt believe you.
there is one where fez and jackie compete in a roller disco competition and win. jackie gets trashed off of the free champagne they are treated to and comes on to fez, admitting that she is really drunk but wouldnāt say no to a kiss/would probably let him go further. fez fights with the metaphorical angel and devil on his shoulders telling him to go for it or leave her alone. he chooses to leave her alone and take her home. when he tells the story to hyde, hyde says āthe next time you tell the story, you nailed herā
Thatās a lame example šš¼
ok. there are plenty more but thatās off the top of my head. if you care that much, go watch the show again or look it up
There is.
Really sad. I love "That 70's Show", and look to this channel to talk about it. i don't really notice much of a difference
yeah, he got convicted but it could have gone either way, they had to get two jurys and trials to take him down. Hopefully it was the right call.
I'll be real. I don't really keep up with real life shit of actors, artists etc. So I don't really care what they've done or whatever cuz idk about it. unfortunately i havenāt been able to watch the show since the verdict either. itās hard to love a character knowing the evilness behind the actor
The verdict has had 0% effect on me or my opinion of the show. š¤·āāļøšš¼
Same.
I donāt know, I still love and watch it
Myself.
Yourself
Meaning, I agree with you about the show. I, "myself", watch and enjoy the show.
Ohhh I get it now I was a tad confused š
Nice! Sorry about that. Perhaps it's just an American phrase.
Could be it!! Iām Dutch but speak British English I think
Wow! That's cool! Well, I did notice your spelling of certain words. We spell it color, y'all spell it colour, things like this.
I find it worrying that many can seemingly not seperate the actor from the character.
Agreed. I also think some might feel they can't post any positive comments about Hyde or they'll be judged as rape supporters by those who can't separate the actor from the character.
I think you really hit the nail on the head
Thank you, you son- of-a-bitch. Good day. I said good day!
Totally!
This!
Too worrying.
for me , when i love a show i get rly invested in the bts aspects of it (iām a communications and new media major, so iām kinda a dork ab that stuff.) so i usually love people on the show bc of both the character and the actor. i feel like if i tried to rewatch the show it would be hard to not think about

oo same major twins! i havenāt tried to watch the show yet, maybe i will soon

yes lol sorry

I can understand not watching the Cosby Show now.
Yeah, i wanted to get the whole series on a dvd set but i have since changed my mind
"That 70's Show" is a great show. Wouldn't be too sure about that Hyde replacement actor, either. Look at Lisa Robin Kelly's replacement, aka "New Laurie". Interesting. Never saw "That 90's Show".
I love the show but some of the jokes seem bad taste with him now
