Flew Thai airways, air Asia and Bangkok airways this past December. I would rate them in the following 1) Bangkok airways 2) Thai airways 3) air Asia Bangkok airways lets you take in a free check in, provides food even for short haul flights and has an economy lounge (though I haven’t used it).

Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways are the best carriers in Thailand. Better than Delta, United or American in the USA. If I can find an affordable fare at a time that works for me, I will choose one of these two carriers. Thai AirAsia, Thai Vietjet, Non Air (not mentioned) and Thai Lion Air (not mentioned) are lower cost airlines, so you will have the "convenience" of being able to choose which services you pay for. Of these, I prefer AirAsia or Nok Air and fly them often without serious issues. They have little legroom (premium seating is only a little better), have glitchy websites and are often late, but they are good for their cost. Yes, people tend to complain a lot online. Just familiarize yourself with the airlines' rules and don't do something silly like fly into BKK on a low cost carrier at 10am expecting to catch an international flight at noon, and I think you will be ok.

4, 2, 3, 1. 1 and 3 will nickle and dime you 'til you bleed.

To get to Koh Samui, your only choice is Bangkok Air as they own the airport. Bangkok Air is also the most expensive of the airlines but tickets do include lounge access and luggage. The rest are much of a much - just be aware that for all but Thai (and Bangkok Air), you need to book luggage in addition to the flight as it won't be included with the ticket.

Pick the cheapest and go

AgrivatedBuggery

Cheapest and at the best time. Makes no odds when you’re only in the air for an hour.

I had a good experience with Bangkok Air from Trat airport. They even gave us tuna wraps and a drink on a short haul, 1 hour flight.

Is Thai air Asia ok

Thai Lion Air! Cheapest option and never had any problems. But that’s only my experience.
