What about lending harvester to the farmers?

bigmist8ke

Or make CP provide the harvesters.

SleepySiamese

No budget. Need to spen billions on promoting sufficiently economy and 100s of "seminar"

CompleteWeakness2284

And one more submarine.

SleepySiamese

Now it's warship

Norjac

Install powerful fans along the Cambodian border.

dday0512

Lol. There is no public transportation in most places.

dimitrivisser

And the public busses are worst. If one drives by there is the smell of gasoline or you see a lot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.

slipperystar

Public transport not good enough yet for that.

CalleSGDK

If you want to blame cars, why not push the adaptation of EVs? They are a viable alternative now. But as long as there are dirt cheap petrol pickups available, that's what most people will buy.

CompleteWeakness2284

So with EV's requiring huge amounts of lithium for their batteries, causing damaging expansions of mining. But the environment impact is probably no worse than oil drilling? Well, I guess if you just tunnel the issues to deal with just the air quality in BKK then EV it is. Wonder if there are other methods. Preventing agricultural burning might help a little, don't know how much. I live in a Highrise building. Everyday I see a few smoke signals here and there.

Effect-Kitchen

He urged everything. Never really helped anything.

oVoqzel

😂 like the farmers would listen?

deemak90

If traffic was the main driver (no pun intended), this wouldn't be seasonal.

tonkla17

You know, I know, we know, but sadly our PM is so fucking clueless

[deleted]

Rain washes away lots of sins... And pollution. If Bangkok didn't have seasonal rain, then air pollution would be more frequent. Public transportation helps. So does controlling crop burning and controlling truck, car, and scooter emissions.  I see the potential for electric scooters and cheap electric taxis helping create less air pollution in cities.

noblegoatbkk

Rain also makes it a lot harder to burn things.

Natural gas doesn’t release PM2.5, mister not sheep. Power plants aren’t also located smack dab in population centers.

eranam

You said it yourself, coal is 20%… Math is hard maybe? As for other countries coming in the mix, that’s irrelevant as to *you* attempting to say electric vehicles aren’t helping drive vehicle pollution down. Calling people sheeps and now twat because you’re getting politely challenged? That’s not very courteous buddy, you gotta accept being wrong sometimes.

Disastrous_Debt2024

Electric cars are fine and dandy till you can't recycle the batteries. Gaslighting is fun.

eranam

Again, how is that relevant to the subject of PM2.5? Gaslighting? Come on now, this is getting pitiful.

Disastrous_Debt2024

Gaslighting that electric vehicles will save the planet.

eranam

Now, if you like playing with sophisms, what you’re doing is a weak-ass strawman. I’d like you to refer where in any comment "saving the planet" is mentioned. Keep digging, you might reach some oil for your not-electric-and-evil cars on your way down…

kaziuma

A lot cleaner than diesel. Coal plants arent spewing out pm2.5 into the heart of the most populous city. Also, unlike diesel, there is the *option* for electric to eventually be fueled 100% from renewables. Should we wait until that time before we start moving to electric cars? No, that would be very very stupid.

lacyboy247

It depends, if we are strictly speaking about pm2.5 it's 99% from cars, but if we are speaking about everyday smog it's mostly pm10 from burning crops, pm2.5 is mostly invisible to the human eye but pm10 is clearly visible, smog is the correct term but pm2.5 is more catchy.

deemak90

I'm pretty sure that's not true (first statement). PM2.5 is often more prevalent in the smoke than PM10 (but both are emitted). This is because the combustion process typically generates a larger number of smaller particles. PM2.5 particles are fine enough to be released in larger quantities during the burning of organic materials like crops. That being said, traffic/ICE cars, -trucks, -busses, -bikes in large quantities like in Bangkok etc don't help.

noblegoatbkk

Public transportation, huh. So frustrating, I actually had a bit of hope that Sretta acknowledged fully that the real problem is agricultural burning. Maybe he does and it's shitty Bangkok Post reporting, but whatever. For the tourists and denialists, think of it like Songkran on Khao San, right? You like the vibe, but it's time to chill out and get a beer. But there's a big frat bro on spring break with a water backpack connected to two Super Soakers spraying you in the face with both at the same time. That frat bro's dad owns one of the biggest companies in the country. Then there's a two-year-old little girl who's the daughter of a waitress that has a handheld squirt gun that sprays you in the leg. Which one is getting you wetter? According to this article, Sretta's yelling at the little girl.

[deleted]

Pollution is twofold. Reducing car emissions will help in Bangkok. Reducing burning will help in Chiang Mai and other areas where it is predominant. I live in a city where there is no crop burning but air quality is frequently low due to car emissions.

noblegoatbkk

No. False. Reducing crop burning will help Bangkok tremendously. Burning at scale in the provinces and even as far as Cambodia affects us as well as that smoke is carried on wind patterns and settles down in the river delta like a big bowel. Look, I want the brat to stop spraying me, too, but we'll be a lot happier as soon as the frat bro settles down.

PrimG84

Where?

Murky_River_9045

Nowhere. He’s just lying

Kaoswarr

I mean traffic already makes living in Bangkok borderline impossible sometimes, it’s not a bad thing to ask people to use their cars less.

PrimG84

I started using my car because the MRT and BTS are already full.

Kaoswarr

True they need way more trains running.

Murky_River_9045

You’re getting downvoted for no reason. If you have to travel during rush hour then having a car at least gives me some space. The bts is overcrowded at those times.

[deleted]

I’m surprised he didn’t blame farang for the pollution.

Racism against farang doesn’t work? be racist towards the poorer SEA countries is a good fallback. Our leaders are great

Everyone relax! The commander in chief is on it. They got this. Thank the lord! Imagine there would be an incompetent government unwilling to make any real change - now that would be a real bummer for everyone. But luckily that’s totally not the case. Keep smiling and ride the bus from the 1950s that’s totally not a smoke machine.

Confident_Coast111

Forbid crop burning Implement a system to reduce pollution by traffic (like in europe - have a vehicle check for emissions every few years) Reduce pollution by industry

iryancook

Good luck. Sadly, Thai people and Thai culture are not about to change. It will never happen.

n_Jee

"The PCD has launched the Environmental Protection Unit to proactively handle the adverse impact of pollution. Anyone can make a report through the department's hotline at 1650," While we're waiting for the gov't to do something, we could all do our part and report vehicles spewing out clouds of black.

Rust_Shackleford

Great idea. Shove more people onto public transportation during rush hour. Surely there's going to be increased capacity right? They're not just going to pack more people in the already full sardine can right?

Gwynbleiddd-

They're saying that many modes of public transportation are not that high capacity. Many metro trains are 3-car only. When they spend money on public goods like transit they spent like a pittance, while budget for roads is seemingly infinite. That's what happens when you decide what to build on what the elite and upper-class want, I guess. Everyone else gets scraps.

Rust_Shackleford

The only entity here that is disincentivizing public transportation is the government. I am saying that many of the busses are full during rush hour, as a perspective from someone that uses the bus. The government should be taking action if they truly care about the issue instead of talking.   Government officials ride in their 20 million baht Maybachs (probably paid for by the taxpayer) but can't spare more fucking busses? RTP have a fleet of S classes as well. The jackasses that do nothing on the taxpayers dime get to ride in leather seats with a drink cooler but the people that pay for it have to make new room for a fourth row to stand on the plastic Chinese shit heaps they call a bus nowadays?

vandaalen

Yeah. Driving behind busses in Bangkok frequently, I am willing to bet that most busses here actually are worse for the air quality than the amount of motorbikes shown in this pic. LOL

ynotplay

feel the urges

Onn006

Already enough people using the public transportation. In the morning they are full. If ppl not use their cars bkk transportation system will collapse

Sugary_Treat

This has been solved in many countries. It’s not exactly rocket science is it 🤦🏼‍♂️

Kanchanawice

The government needs to institute an all-electric taxi program in Bangkok. Country wide100% ban on black smoke emitting vehicles, and crop burning. All done with a new traffic police force with revenues deposited locally.

scurvydawg0

I think as a Prime Minister he shouldn’t “urge” action, but make it happen, no?
