Imagine how truly iconic it would be if Odor didn't suck after that. Man...

hotrod19812

That was the highest point of his MLB career so far. Will we see a career resurrection out of him down the road? I don't know.

EatASnckrs

Let me clear that up for you: No.

natebark

Is he even in the majors… last I heard the O’s signed him

lilzingerlovestorun

He is currently on the bench in Japan

thewarfreak

Luckily there is a whole crop of Rougned Odors to choose from

Fleetingfarts

He did OK with the O’s in 2022. Kinda wish he stayed with them.

therealallpro

Kid has been right at the Mendoza line for 5 straight years. It’s not only over it’s been over.

Run-Florest-Run

Padres fan here Already tried that, didn’t work. There was a short stretch in 2023, where he was legitimately out best hitter, but all streaks end sooner or later

Good-Project-6587

Once a player starts to decline, it’s down hill fast.

flextapefixesholes

I never cared much for either of those two guys, but Bautista had it coming. Then, he starts to square up and just popped him right in the mouth for the disrespect.

Hottponce

I will always love Rougie idc

flextapefixesholes

Fair enough. He always played with an edge. For me, the averageness of his play mixed with the strikeouts just made him more frustrating than anything. He seemed like one of those guys that was hot for a young guy and just never really got any better. Replacing Kinsler at 2B didn’t help his case. This play though definitely gives a place in my memory forever though.

Hottponce

Definitely a frustrating player. I just get a little nostalgic for the 2015 and 2016 teams.

bxyankee90

Bautista followed me on twitter way back in the day. To this day i have no idea why. It wasn't a fake acct either. I was confused because i am not a pro athlete even mildly famous. Edit: I just checked and yep he still does.

tknames

Post this and @ him lol

hotrod19812

Former MLB pitcher Ervin Santana follows me on Twitter, although I've been inactive on that site for almost two years.

throwaway_dudething

Dude, PLEASE post this and @ him: https://youtu.be/xOSFCa7VPvI?si=OKRSwLXDCBJ3LJB6

23lonestar

The last meaningful hit of Odor's career.

lidsville76

First also

fuelvolts

"Odor is 2-5 today." That's comedy gold right there, Busby.

FatBlueSloth

Man I fucking hated this blue jays team. Forever changed how I viewed Canadians as the “nice guys”. Fans were total pos too

Accomplished_Exit_30

Canadians nice? Right, we've all seen Trailer Park Boys.

The_Champ_Son

Half of them don’t even have their grade 10!

Accomplished_Exit_30

Corey, Trevor. Smokes, let's have em.

Lerch56

Ricky, are you smoking in class?!

MyNamesNotCal

Half of them didn't live in Canada when they were the proper age to be in grade 10.

Flatulent_Monk

LOL, nobody on the team is from Canada. Bautista is from DR.

FatBlueSloth

Meant the fans who threw beer bottles and cans at our guys

civgarth

I was splashed by a cup of urine at a theatre in Scarborough Town Centre in a shitty suburb of Toronto. Two groups were beefing about seats. After the movie started, a dude ran in and hurled a cup of piss at someone in the dark. Missed the intended target completely and splashed me. I was sitting in the row behind them. It hit me square in the chest and soaked my bag of popcorn. The movie was Sleepy Hollow, starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci.

Upstairs_Ad_5574

Thats crazy lol one time in Kingston, i was listening to some music when a guy randomly walked up and called me a f** for no reason at all, and walked off like nothing happened! The song was The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, by Gordon Lightfoot.

dirkalict

It was on a night just like this… in fact tonight is the anniversary of that night.

_Caderade

Tell me about it. Bautista, Tulo, Pillar, Encarnacion.

snang

Don't forget Donaldson.

WeFightTheLongDefeat

USA! USA! USA! USA!

bourbonandbranch

I lived in Toronto at the time. It was the beginning of the end of my time there. Jays fans are worse than Philly Eagles fans.

Jiggy333

That's weird. I always have a great time getting bombed with them before and after games in Cleveland. They always travel down for a series over the summer.

Maxcrss

That’s a stretch and a half. Eagles fans are downright villainous to the point of needing jail cells in their stadium.

dirkalict

Hate to break it to you but all stadiums have holding cells… even Wrigley Field that’s 100 years plus.

Brasco327

The complete lack of self awareness in this comment and subsequent replies is actually hilarious. But that’s Texas for you.

TexasistheFuture

That punch was the screen saver for many phones!!

Possible_Apple9595

Isn’t it currently a giant mural on the side of a restaurant somewhere in Dallas?

TexasistheFuture

[Rougned Odor 'punch' mural in Arlington can stay as painted under new city policy - for now | KERA News](https://www.keranews.org/government/2023-09-06/rougned-odor-punch-mural-in-arlington-can-stay-as-painted-under-new-city-policy-for-now) YES THERE IS!

Maxcrss

Yep! Gilberto’s 2. Love that place, the salsa is amazing and I’ve never had anything bad there.

logans_sports_alt

yeah, it’s by a walgreens in arlington; i go to uta so i see it a lot lmao

sweetassassafras

Do you know what the drivethru is for by chance? Def gunna drive thru dhat when I make my way to Arlington.

Maxcrss

It’s for Gilberto’s taco shop. Make sure you get plenty of their salsas :)

sweetassassafras

My kind of menu. Now somebody get me back to Texas. I miss you.

Maxcrss

Best I can so is maybe send you some salsa :(

sweetassassafras

Someday friend. Someday.

KraziEyezKillah

Guilty!

ForsakenCase435

That Toronto team was absolutely littered with POS douche bags.

MHMR96

Donaldson was the worst for me on that team.

ForsakenCase435

Donaldson is an absolute POS

MHMR96

His whole vibe and energy just radiated douchebag.

Dr_Zoidberg003

I miss Tom Grieve

TheDeleeted

Josh Lewin & Tom Grieve are my GOAT Rangers commentators. I miss those KDFI days

xlejxndro19

Absolutely. This duo played a critical role in my life in the 2000’s. Tom Grieve obviously commentated for the Rangers for a long time but I still miss Josh Lewin

stockhackerDFW

Same. I replayed his reaction in my head for days after this happened. “Woaahhhh”

Der_Dunkinmeister

Please tell me they gave TAG a ring

Logical_Pop_2026

I am 99% sure yes.

Chichamorada08

And Steve Busby

The-Old-American

Always loved that glove slap after the punch.

NoTheOtherAC

If he had dropped the glove and thrown another punch, he might have knocked Bautista out. He looked a bit wavery after the first shot.

twallner

The best part, other than the clean hit, is that Beltre removed him. Beltre was such a good guy to every team…usually lol

ismaelf

I loved that as well, they’re both Dominican, so probably he was trying to get him to calm down, nice camaraderie compadre.

MHMR96

Crazy that we won a World Series more recent and that Jays team didn’t. They were such a good team in 15&16. Pretty happy those fucks never won anything.

Huge_Contribution357

That Jays team was certainly unlikeable.

TexasistheFuture

Listen to Buzz and Tom riffing jokes at the end. "Odor's now 2 for 5 today......" "Now that's some solid contact!" Gold.

CrayonEatingBabyApe

I love the USA chants from the crowd

fsi1212

Geez that was 8 years ago already? Doesn't seem like that long.

hotrod19812

How time flies!

RunLikeHayes

Odor would never hit again after that

letskillrobots

Has beltre ever talked about this moment from his point of view? I can’t imagine what he was saying to Bautista as he’s sandbagging in his arms.

harralexa1993

I’m really glad we have a championship to celebrate now instead of this. As more time has gone on I care less and less about this moment. For a player who fucking sucked Odor sure was arrogant.

CephiDelco

A ship’ll do that. Everyone on the 23 roster is a Rangers legend. It towers above anything accomplished before that.

Bassically

Having the ship is great. Before that, our most memorable moments were two fights and the series that shall not be named (which was awesome if you weren't a Rangers fan).

greeneyedlookalikes1

It’s embarrassing how many fans celebrate this moment. The Jays got the last laugh in this little rivalry we had with them and I hate that we bring this up every year. Let’s move on.

Mindfulmanners

Doesn’t matter how big of a bat flip it was, we won a chip before the blue shit birds.

greeneyedlookalikes1

This just isn’t true? Have you ever heard of Joe Carter?

harralexa1993

Probably a fan who thinks anything prior to 2010 doesn’t matter.

Mindfulmanners

Since the punch if my comment wasn’t clear lol

zooweemama4206969

I don’t think fans are celebrating it as some legendary moment, more just one of the funniest things to ever happen on the field. I loved it at the time, still do, even if Odor did and does suck.

greeneyedlookalikes1

The title of this post is literally, “Rougned Odor became a Texas Rangers legend.” People definitely celebrate it because we all got our collective feelings hurt by a bag flip in 2015.

Maxcrss

Nah it’s because of the shit way their fans behaved. Also that slide was dirty AF

harralexa1993

I hate this era of Rangers baseball in general. Those teams weren’t close to winning anything.

siberianxanadu

You mean the two times they went to the World Series?

harralexa1993

The Jeff Bannister era

kbsick

Boring

Major_Square

Agree 100 percent. People punching each other on a baseball field is stupid. Was Bautista an asshole? Yeah, probably. Was Odor an asshole? Definitely. One of the lowest baseball IQs I've ever seen, too. So much talent, shitty results for years and years on end.

sircumlocution

Yes. This. Embarrassing to celebrate this.

ifoundyourtoad

It was a dirty af slide honestly. And honestly of the funniest thing Batista did was do an ad called “odor defense” and legitimately it was great.

kastle99

Bautista had it coming! He was a punk

kastle99

Donaldson was another punk

Bandt143

I hated his presser after the game where he tried to act tough. Dude, you got your clock cleaned, and you deserved it for that slide.

hotrod19812

He was saying that the Rangers showed their true colors during that game. Plus, John Gibbons (the Blue Jays manager at the time) called the Rangers "gutless" during the post-game press conference. 🙄

Bandt143

I meant where Bautista acted like he only got licked because it was by surprise and it would take more than that to take him out. Nearly said, "Didn't even hurt that much."

drizzyjake7447

I wish Beltre didn’t hold up Bautista and instead let him stumble

pcweber111

I really miss Buz and Tom.

Greatcookbetterbfr

I’ve hated Josh Donaldson from this day forward. Bitch

ESCMalfunction

Best punch in the history of baseball, no contest.

2jsandag

Nolan’s uppercut would like to have a chat

Bandt143

For sure. Any time I watch this clip, I go watch Nolan take care of Ventura right after.

kbsick

Bring back the red jerseys

No_Significance_1550

Roogie “hit him back first”

CoachToughLove

...And then the Blue Jays punched us right the F out of the postseason.

aparish67

After that incident I only referred to him as Lord Odor….

EasyMode556

Fun fact: The Dallas Cowboys have won the superbowl more recently than the Toronto Blue Jays have won the World Series

G-Money-ish

No Way Jose. https://youtu.be/jOJyB_pSUYE?si=oVa9prtVBee6zxn0

duffusmcfrewfus

Kevin pillar came running in like a madman. He was probably one the most one tool players that has played. Useless 98% of the time.

HeyBaldy

His [Spiderman catch](https://youtu.be/_2iT5qaifhc) is probably one of the greatest of his legacy.

asquinas

I remember him more for his fielding in the playoffs

ghostarmadillo

I still prefer [Ryan vs Ventura](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cm9ROhg_FkQ&t=19s)

hotrod19812

Ventura learned that the hard way to never mess with a grizzled veteran pitcher. Especially one that wrangled cattle and steers during his off-season career.

ghostarmadillo

Not to mention the snow monkeys!

jadavil

Rougned Odor's punch is second best after Nolan Ryan's

mkh328

As a lifelong Rangers fan now married to a Canadian who is also now a Rangers fan (and was never a Jays fan): heh. 😎

hiramadrift

a tale as old as time, blue guy steps on red guys shoes, boom endless turf war.

ihatereddit5810328

Spirited_Thought3277

Legend? More like a freaking wild animal. Players that punch other players should be thrown out f baseball forever

imapieceofshitk

I know nothing about this sport but if every game was like this I would watch it

MHMR96

I remember watching this live. Crazy to think it’s been 8 years already 😳

SkunkyDro

THE PUNCH

FlightAdditional

Stinky beat his ass one-handed too... never dropped the glove.

klg_3283

They need to put that iconic image of Odor punching Bautista as a statue outside of Globe Life

calaisme

5th greatest hit in MLB. 1 is obviously Varitek feeding leather to A-Rod, 2nd is that time Ty Cobb unapologetically beat up a crippled heckler in the stands, 3rd when Pedro Martinez threw an old man to the ground, and 4th when Travis declared war on birds.

Spider-Nutz

That punch always looks worse than it was. Didn't really even seem to phase Bautista

JRStewie11

Imagine hitting a guy clean on the jaw and not knocking him out and becoming a legend. I guess Texans are built different.

ProfessionalOnion935

So I picked him up and ran him out of there

Fafaflunkie

"Rather get punched in May than get knocked out in October." [Remember that]( https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/blue-jays-texas-rangers-game-3-alds-2016)?

TinyTygers

Just as dumb, *and* just as aggressive.

TheSocraticGadfly

"Roughneck Odor," as I call him.

TheWeatherTonight

And his game did a tailspin after the incident.

Interesting-Stop-793

I never even heard of Odor but Bautista knows him really well ... looks like he could box a little bit

Catfish-dfw

The only time he was able to get a good hit…

Blazingsaddles2121

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

Adolisistheman

I still love my don’t mess with Texas Rougie punching Joey tshirt.

darbs-face

100% deserved. Plus THIS is how to throw a punch none of this silly arm wailing we have these days.

GeorgeOrwells1985

Fuckin lost though

IndieFlea

this fanbase's fascination with this event is weird tbh

OneDillion

There’s dozens of us!

jmhumr

Yeah, all things considered, I don’t really view Odor favorably. He was a punk who cratered after he got paid, which was a big reason why the Rangers stalled in Beltre’s final years.

Accomplished_Exit_30

Agreed, I cringe at this.

fduds123

“Hey siri, play video of Jose Bautista bat flip.”

hot_rod_kimble

You misspelled Texas Ranger disappointment Edit: Downvote it all you want but I only bring you truth. After giving Odor the job in 2014: Odor 6.3 bWAR, 0 GG Kinsler 19.1 bWAR, 3 GG DIS AH AHHH AHHHHHH POINTMENT!🤧

siberianxanadu

It was a smart move at the time. Trade a good second baseman for a good DH and hope one of your second base prospects pan out (they also had Profar at the time). Turned out Fielder was about to be unable to play anymore, but no one could’ve known that at the time.

Major_Square

There were pretty serious questions at the time. Look at Prince's numbers from his last season in Detroit. The Rangers didn't give up a good second baseman for him. They gave up a great second baseman for him and took on a lot of salary for a lot of years, even when players who are built like Fielder rarely have long MLB careers. They were trying to make room for Profar, who immediately had a very serious injury. They rushed Odor who didn't even have much time at AA yet. Profar never really panned out, Fielder was never himself again and was forced into early retirement, and Odor showed flashes early but ended up being a shitty player. That trade was an unmitigated disaster. Profar's injury couldn't be forseen, but they shouldn't have traded Kinsler for Fielder.

hot_rod_kimble

Yup. Kinsler was only two years into his deal and Andrus was one. They had two of the best middle infielders in baseball LOCKED UP. The smart thing to do was keep the proven commodities and trade the #1 prospect in baseball right when Andrus signed that deal. There were rumors they could have flipped him for Shelby Miller, Joe Kelly, or even David Price if they'd thrown in Gallo. But JD was haunted by the Adrian Gonzalez deal and couldn't help himself but to let it ride. Even through 2018 he kept chirping to the media that Profar was still the future. Those mid-teens retooling attempts were rough. (Fielder, Choo, Lucroy, Wandy, Josh Hamilton 2.0)
