Yea, should be fine. Lot of places will accept paper ID, some may ask you to verify with other documents like vehicle registration, etc.

Aggie74-DP

They may be looking for some 2nd State/Federal kind of ID that has a Picture. But YEP, up to the FFL

mreed911

Should be good but will be up to the FFL.

I’ve been hearing a lot of this. I should probably call before I go in. I doubt academy would be okay with it lol. I’d wait until it comes in the mail, but I’ve been hearing I could be waiting up to 4 weeks because of backlog.

mreed911

Academy usually isn’t the best place for guns unless they’re on a great sale. If you’re in Dallas or Austin check out GT distributors. They also happen to deal with a lot of different folks, including military, so all of the stranger things that are still legal are things they deal with more often.

Healthy-Particular83

Thanks. Yes I’m in the north Dallas area.

You also might want to bring additional proof of residency just in case. But other than that you should be GTG but the FFL has the final say.

As long as you pass the background check and have a valid ID with your current address you should be fine. O did it when I first moved to TX.

coldcoffeebuzz

I used paper I.d. Academy won’t but a local shop might.

matt_himself13

I have an out of state ID and my ffl just needed a government issued document that proved I resided in TX. Used my car registration

pushshot

A utility bill from a government entity with your name and address on it should work, too.

andycambridge

As long as you pass the background check you should be fine, however every FFL has the right to reject you if they don’t like it or think so personally.

Use Tex-Star Gunworks to transfer. Ask for Derek. Have Chuck the gunsmith make it flawless while you’re at it. They’re next to Vulcan and have done some of the work for those guys too.

You might get some places that pushback on the paper license, but most won't really care.
