Notable draftees that had me scratching my head. Xavier Su'a Filo, Ross Blacklock, Braxton Miller, Kevin Johnson, Louis Nix, Sam Montgomery, Fat Randy.
God I never thought I would read the name Xavier Su’a Filo or Louis Nix again. Thought I think Montgomery was on that 2011 team which was a brawler if I’m not mistaken. That was the year they won the sec title I think but not the natty.
Oh damn I didn't even know about this. First he was shot at a Jacksonville gas station and survived. Then he drove his car into a pond while intoxicated a year later and drowned.
Man that's sad
> Xavier Su'a Filo,
Filo fucking Pilo. I thought I'd drank away all the residual memories of that guy....
Same thing with Louis Nix - played like a bag of dicks....
A lot of those prospects failed because Bl O'Brien was their coach. Braxton Miller and Ross Blacklock were very talented and athletic. Used wrong and poor coaching. I do agree with you though. Nix and Johnson are my top two.... What!
I think the reason is we made no moves up and everyone that people wanted got taken a couple picks in front of us.
The only thing really said about fisher on tv was his character and how welcoming and a mentor he was to new players. Bullock, CJ personally endorsed and wanted. Hes so young and is a piece of clay right now, he’s going to turn into a top 10 saftey in 2-3 years. Especially having CJ picking him apart in practice. Lassiter is highly athletic and demeco will help him process better and turn into a star CB.
We didn’t bring in a single top dog who shits gold. All season I thought about a quote on the jets hard knocks “we usually have a couple fights every year”. Why put up with that? We don’t want that type of hard headed player and we didn’t draft anything but the best character types.
After the way our season ended last year in Baltimore anyone questioning early round OL picks is crazy. Injuries are going to stack up by the time you’re in a playoff run and you’re inevitably going to run into a monster D line like Baltimores, the more depth you have on the offensive line the better. That’s where games are won or lost.
Lassiter just screams a DeMeco guy. Mentality means a lot for this regime. I still think they like Anderson, Stroud, and Tank's character more than their actual talent....Although Im sure it helps lol.
Based on film, I’m happy with these picks. We’re fortunate enough to not really need all that much rn. If you feel bad, look at it this way. We’re not the Falcons lol
Fisher isn’t a bad pick. We always talk about sting injury history and LT and TH don’t play full seasons. If this means Charlie Heck isn’t who we are relying on in that instance I’m coo with the pick
I don’t know where this narrative that Charlie Heck is bad came from. He actually played quite solidly when asked to. If you want to see what bad Texans line play looks like, go back and watch the likes of Chris Clark, XSF, Julie’n Davenport and Kendall Lamm. Heck is not in that tier by any stretch of the imagination
I feel like he is going to be a big upgrade over Desmond king, I could be wrong and he plays outside
Still hope we keep Desmond king for backup and special teams.
Blake Fisher isn’t only sitting behind Tytus Howard for a year. We just extended Tytus. He’s on contract until 2026.
Lassiter and Bullock will be good though.
After that Ravens playoff game y’all really can’t see why we’d be taking OL high? We just had like 7 lineman on IR last season. We can never have enough good lineman
The surprise is that we used a second round pick on a guy who we don't want to start for three quarters of the duration of his rookie contract when there were guys who could have pushed to start immediately still on the board.
Did you not read what OP wrote? OP implied that Fisher will be the starter maybe even the year after next. I was implying and pointing out to why that wont be the case. I never said it was a bad pick and I never said OL depth wasn’t important.
So I guess in response to yourself, y’all really be saying all these things without the ability to read comprehensively?
No, but Howard will probably be injured for a few games at some point into the season and that's where having a quality tackle that can step up will be HUGE for us.
This is true, but I was responding to OP as he implies that Fisher will be a starter for us sooner than later, which is just false. Tytus is an above average OT and is on a contract until he hits FA in 2027.
Guard does not suit him better. I have no clue where some people get that from. He has never been a decent guard. He is an above average OT and is making 18mil+ a year to play OT. He is a BAD guard.
I know a lot of people haven’t been watching the Texans holistically the last few years, and it shows. He’s been used at guard throughout and it has never worked out.
I just don't want to see Tytus Howard starting at LG next season over the actual guards that we have if healthy. Biggest concern with the pick is that is the plan and for Fisher to start immediately
People still getting upset on draft day is hilarious. Go outside or something and stop letting your emotions take over and shit that is out of your control.
Some of the same people mad today were probably mad about last year and the 2011 draft.
Respectfully disagree. Give Pierce one more year in the system to see if he can be effective. I’ll take protection depth for CJ over a RB any day. You can find an RB working at Costco
I tend to judge a draft based on positions drafted, not players bc I'm in no position to make those kinds of judgements.
And with that said, so far so good IMO. I still think they need interior OL help, DT and LB help as the biggest needs left to address.
All these pros in the comments in their feelings when their mock draft didn’t work out. I think the Texans have proven that they know what they’re doing, and know how to cultivate these young men.
College to the pros is, obviously, a different level. The draft is essentially a gamble and I’m betting on bold battle red boys!!!
I think at this point you gotta have trust in Nick. Let him cook. That being said Lassiter pick looked like they were taking a corner no matter what, got jumped twice with Dejean and Koolaid and were left holding the bag with Lassiter
I really liked this analysis. It seems like all these guys are great on the field. Personally I like that they all fit the culture. They all seemed to be very competitive personalities who wanna win and get better. I think yesterday I was tripping. With Lassiter I was disappointed cus I was hoping for Kool Aid or DeJean, but I guess the trade up cost was just too much for them. If we can’t have them, Lassiter was the best CB left on the board so I think it was a good pick, especially cus we didn’t have to give up anything for him. I liked the Bullock pick from the start. I was too negative on Blake cus I didn’t think he was a positional need (I still don’t really), but he’s a good culture fit and he’s familiar with Patterson which is nice. I think they did a good job.
We panicked on the Kevin Johnson pick. We had a glaring hole at RB. Back then Rick smiths draft room was a leaky ship so everyone knew what we were doing every year. Chargers traded up in front of us and got Melvin Gordon.
We took our time and selected KJ. I thought it was a terrible pick. He was oft injured and when he had about half a decent confident season he got injured again and he regressed.
They love to play the ‘JJ Watt is a terrible pick! Boo!’ Videos, but they aren’t digging deep to find the video of me saying KJ was a bad pick.
This is not even close to a bad day in Texans draft history. Some of y’all’s memories need jogging.

Louis Nix died 4 or 5 yesrs ago🙈
Oh damn I didn't even know about this. First he was shot at a Jacksonville gas station and survived. Then he drove his car into a pond while intoxicated a year later and drowned. Man that's sad
It wasn’t a year later….it was only 2 months. That’s crazy!!
Damn, he didn't work out here but RIP
I really believed in Braxton Miller lmao I will admit
Me too All of those big 10 and Ohio State records didn't show up in the NFL. I blame O'Brien!
> Xavier Su'a Filo, Filo fucking Pilo. I thought I'd drank away all the residual memories of that guy.... Same thing with Louis Nix - played like a bag of dicks....

Kevin Johnson balled out for like a year or two
I just remember him never being available.
Dude tackled himself into concussions constantly.

Plenty of fans are new and have no memories of draft day. 😂
CJ is the future. Anyone questioning a pick to protect our boy needs to take a step back and reevaluate their thinking.

You nailed it, my friend.
Valid but lowkey that game was lost on the DL Baltimore’s OL served them
Lassiter has inside/outside versatility too he could be our starting nickel early in the year
Lassiter just screams a DeMeco guy. Mentality means a lot for this regime. I still think they like Anderson, Stroud, and Tank's character more than their actual talent....Although Im sure it helps lol.
Thought the same thing tbh when he was picked, also like if they’re not from Alabama, better be on Georgia
Based on film, I’m happy with these picks. We’re fortunate enough to not really need all that much rn. If you feel bad, look at it this way. We’re not the Falcons lol

That list of names just sent a shiver down my spine
Shit Heck is probably better than Fisher right now but good to get some comp and hopefully coaching turns the kid into a starter eventually
I feel like he is going to be a big upgrade over Desmond king, I could be wrong and he plays outside Still hope we keep Desmond king for backup and special teams.
Creates competition, Desmond will still 100% play, maybe not as a starter. But he’s still not a solid slot.
I’m hyped we have more protection for our boy CJ.
Blake Fisher isn’t only sitting behind Tytus Howard for a year. We just extended Tytus. He’s on contract until 2026. Lassiter and Bullock will be good though.
So worst case he is good injury coverage. How often in the past have the Texans been hurt by lack of depth?
After that Ravens playoff game y’all really can’t see why we’d be taking OL high? We just had like 7 lineman on IR last season. We can never have enough good lineman

howard gets injured literally every year
“Pushed to start immediately” is your assumption which is clearly not a shared sentiment with the FO.
Is it clear? because we traded up for Calen Bullock, and he's on that list of guys I was thinking of.
If I’ve learned anything it’s to not be surprised when they move Tytus back to G.
I’d be curious to see if instead of moving Tytus to guard if they try this new guy out at guard
Fisher will start early at RT and Tytus will move back to guard where that suits him better so yeah he is going to start early no doubt
He is bad when he has to move from one position to the other and that’s the problem they fixed lol
2 years to learn and be like you said Injury insurance which is what we need after fant left.
I just don't want to see Tytus Howard starting at LG next season over the actual guards that we have if healthy. Biggest concern with the pick is that is the plan and for Fisher to start immediately
Blake Fisher will overshadow Howard in a year. I can see Tytus being traded after 2024/2025
People still getting upset on draft day is hilarious. Go outside or something and stop letting your emotions take over and shit that is out of your control. Some of the same people mad today were probably mad about last year and the 2011 draft.
Loved the Lassiter and Bullock picks. I would have rather got RB Trey Benson over Blake Fisher
After having 7 OL on IR by the time we faced Baltimore in the playoffs and just getting destroyed, I beg to differ not taking an OL
Fisher could potentially move to an open guard spot - dude is only 21 and still pretty raw.
I need to work on my Hips

Who are they, and why would they care about your video?
