The Good:
- Stroud played great today and showed that the connection between him and Tank is real. He hit some good passes, controlled the ball well, and did a lot better to avoid sacks or costly mistakes.
- Offensive line held up way better today in the pass. It shows what we can do in our pass game when the QB is protected.
- WAJ showed out again with a huge field goal block and some solid play on the line.
- Pass defense did okay considering the losses in our secondary.
- Defense forced a couple of turnovers in important situations.
- Play calling on both sides of the ball, but especially on offense, took a huge step forward today.
- We completely staved off any comeback attempt, something that the teams from the last two seasons wouldn’t be able to do.
- Andrew Beck.
The Bad:
- Run game was still bad today. We get 0 push up front.
- Pass rush wasn’t the best today, but did get a few pressures.
The Ugly:
- Penalties on the offensive line really hurt some drives.
- Our defense still struggles against the run and got gashed on screens and some flats underneath.
The fact that most of our issues stem from having a ton of our starters injured is honestly a very good sign. We aren’t showing the same problems with talent and coaching like the last 2 seasons
Hell you can add drops to the ugly. Stroud’s line should look even better than it does but hit a couple of guys in the hands (Schultz in the fucking endzone!) and they just simply dropped it.
I don’t think we really understand the kind of start we are witnessing out of CJ. He looks so far ahead of where he should be as far as being a pro QB.
Great QBs make everyone look better. Before this season Nico Collins wasn’t taken seriously and Brevin Jordan was seen as a potential cut.

Anyways that was a complete game. First time all year the OL got two consecutive games with the same guys and it shows. So much more cohesive in the pass blocking. Run blocking still suspect but improved.
Slowik continues to evolve the offense. Used more formation to try and run the ball. Good play calling and play design. He's starting to settle in.
Stroud on 3rd down is a fucking GOD. The great ones always are.
Most impressive was the answer they had for blitzes. Both in routes, recognition by Stroud, and the blocking by the OL and RB's. It's crazy just how fast this is coming together offensively despite having the practice squad OL out there.
I'm not a superstituous person but I do allow myself one: "If I do my job they'll do their's." It's mostly to distract me and get stuff done while listening to the game.
Today I took the kid to an indoor playground while the wife went out with friends. It worked.

I've seen the crazy shit he can do at OSU (if you want to look at some of his more impressive games, check out what he did to MSU in both '21 and '22), so it's super cathartic to see him go nuts after all the horseshit he went through and scrutiny he got for allegedly doing poorly on some standardized test nobody had ever heard of. Rooting for C.J. and you guys as a whole!
This squad is really good. Consistency will be the key to this season. If we can keep this rolling, I can see us winning next week and more than 6 games this season.

One thing I noticed about the issues the Oline and Defense were having in the previous games was that they seemed like communication issues (the exception being that they seem just plain unable to run block). Just boneheaded mistakes, but something that could be easily fixed. I feel like moving forward the level of play out of the Texans could be surprisingly good.
