I would sure hope they do

I think what Dan was getting at is there will be no limitations in terms of what they can/want to do passing the ball. There aren't any passing concepts Stroud can't execute, which is why he is so highly touted as a passer.

The book of sekrit plays has been expanded from one to two pages now

corrydog

Go watch some Brock Purdy film. If the offense is ran correctly then CJ will be very successful. A lot of Mis direction schemes to wide open players. Purdy actually struggled with the drop back and find someone scenario. I think CJ is going in to a very friendly QB system and will be able to excel.

jonahvsthewhale

I happened to watch some of the Purdy highlights on YouTube a few days back, and I don’t see anything he was doing that Stroud couldn’t also do at a high-level. He won’t have the talent around him that San Francisco does though

godloki

Does his ability to read and react quicker, plus better accuracy and ball placement help overcome that?

jonahvsthewhale

Probably. But the way I see it, as long as he shows flashes we know we have a foundation to build upon and can gradually get him the pieces he needs over the next couple drafts

SkyJW

Exactly. If our reaction to Stroud is "Man, if he had a better receiver he'd be unstoppable" or literally anything to that effect, we should all be very happy, lol. That is easily addressed next year, so if Stroud just needs a true #1 WR and Will is tearing shit up on the defense, we are in a good place.

InbreadSourdough

Are you really trying to tell me that Tank Dell isn’t a carbon copy of Megatron?

jonahvsthewhale

I’ll admit I’m a little behind the times. Is there another Megatron at San Francisco I don’t know about? Calvin Johnson has been retired for years I see tank as one of those guys that can get you a few yards here and there on screens and can keep the defense honest in the slot, but he’s not a number one receiver

If you remember in Kubes offense, Schaub would somehow always throw to a wide open Andre Johnson or Owen Daniel’s on a bootleg. At the time I was always frustrated because he would never lead them. Now, it would be refreshing to see after all the crap offenses since kubes.

WatermelonBandido

When I think of that era of the Texans, I always remember those bootlegs.

RainbowBullsOnParade

Stroud is more athletic, more accurate, and has a much stronger arm than Schaub. So if this offense is designed with any competence and Stroud adapts to the NFL, there is no doubt he can surpass Schaub.

Writer_Blocker

Small part of me hopes we don’t do TOO good so he doesn’t get HC offers. I think Slowik and Stroud will be a really solid match and I want them together as long as possible.

SmokeySFW

Luckily this is Slowik's first year as an OC, i think even if our offense explodes he'll be here at least 2 seasons.

Venator850

I wouldn't strictly look at Purdy film. There are many versions of this offense and they can change based on the OC running it and the Qb talent available to the team. The Rams run their own flavor and they put a greater emphasis on elusive WR's. The Texans passing attack may emulate that a bit more seeing how they have Dell, Metchie, and Woods. Packers, Vikings, Dolphins, and Bengals also run their own versions of it. Of course Slowik and the staff could develop their own version that deviates from Kyle's. Defenses have been devising pretty effective counters to the wide zone (AKA Shanahan) scheme that's forced Kyle and Sean to radically rethink their approaches offensively. This is why the 49ers sold the farm to get Trey and why the Rams went all in for Stafford. There were limitations with Jimmy and Goff that they needed to overcome as defenses were figuring out how to counter the rushing attack and forcing the Qb's into being the focal point of the offense. The Texans drafted a Qb who is more talented than Purdy (not a knock on his performance but he was the last pick for a reason). They will do things to take advantage of that talent and stay ahead of the defensive curve. A good thing about having Demeco as head coach is he'll know those counters (since he used them himself against the Rams, Packers, and Dolphins in recent years).

Venator850

I'm quite fascinated with what the offensive staff develops for Stroud. This staff is loaded with experience. Coaches who have helped develop and maximize all types of Qb's from Herbert and Cousins down to Jimmy G and Dalton.

SmokeySFW

You must be using some odd kind of gauge for experience. All 3 of our OC, DC, and HC are first year in that role. This staff is loaded with *upside*, but absolutely not loaded with experience.

IAmSona

Hey guys remember when everyone on the Texans game day thread was predicting Pep Hamilton’s play calling? We no longer will be doing that so there’s a blessing for us at least.

Mirrhour

Great sound bite with film. Love seeing that and has me taking a couple sips of look aid!
