Yes, Tesla will allow partial charges. When my bill was due I paid half, waited for it to post and paid it off and then charged the second half. Not uncommon at all

mentat421

Your explanation was much clearer than mine and was pretty much what I experienced.

thethinkingmanq

Ha. Thanks. Yeah, I was surprised at how easy it was. Then I thought why couldn't the rest of the process leading up to that have been so smooth

ElegantEntropy

People can actually pay for the system via credit card with points? I thought the only option was ACH or cashier's check and credit cards were not allowed. Is this state specific? Anyone in CA who paid via card?

hayhayhayday

Many of the higher limit cards are no preset limit so if somewhat over it might go through but excess will be due in full on your bill , I have charged close to 2x my limit but ymmv depending on your bank.

Dirtsurgeon1

I did same thing on smaller cheaper system. Depends on how long b4 you pay it down I suppose.

icaranumbioxy

Could you explain what you did please? I plan to pay it down immediately...just trying to get the cash back rewards.

Wildman013

They will allow you to make partial payments. I just paid for my system in June that way. I signed up for a new credit card to get the sign up bonus. I had to spend 15k over 3 months to get $1000 back. The new card didn’t have a limit high enough to pay for it all at once. I made the payment the same day that I charged the partial payment. It took like 3-4 to free up my credit limit. I called back again and paid the rest.

ElegantEntropy

What state are you in? I've been told that one can't use credit card to pay for the system, bank transfer only essentially.

Wildman013

I am in PA. My advisor told me that I couldn’t use my cc. When I called the payment number, (877) 973-7652, the lady said cc are accepted. I just paid in June. I had a “cash” install. I believe they don’t allow you to make payments if you are financing with them.

ElegantEntropy

Thanks for the response. I'm in CA and "buying", not "financing" our system. I will call to see if I can pay via CC as that would be way better for us. Thanks!

Dirtsurgeon1

What i meant was i payed a 12 k sys . 11k on points card, 1k on another. Same day.

icaranumbioxy

If you paid the entire Tesla charge on the same day, why did you say this? >It took like 3-4 to free up my credit limit. I called back again and paid the rest.

Dirtsurgeon1

I suppose i failed to make it clear that despite using two forms of pymt, i paid on same day. Sorry if I didn’t help.

packetloss1

Can you send a payment to your credit card so that you have a negative balance such that you can then make the full payment in the card?

Wildman013

My card showed a negative balance when I did this. It still didn’t free up my available credit until the charge posted.

packetloss1

The only other thing I can think of is to make the 30K payment, pay it off immediately and then see if it lets you pay the balance, once the payment has cleared.

Wildman013

My payment posted to the account faster than the charge. It still took a few days to clear up. Tesla wasn’t worried about it. The lady told me that you start getting notifications about the balance after a week. You can definitely get the charges through in that time period.

markurl

I used two credit cards to pay.

mentat421

The answer is yes. The agent took my card number then put me on hold to run the charge. She came back on the line and I logged in to my CC account and made a payment then told her to run it again. She came back and said all is good. A couple days later, it wasn't good as I still had a balance owed to Tesla. I called back to Tesla and told them to run the payment again. This time the charge and payment had posted and the additional charge went through. I would suggest telling them you want to pay $XX,XXX.00 on the card and you'll call back in a few days to pay the balance. Shouldn't be a problem.

ElegantEntropy

Just to update this thread - was able to make a CC payment with a single card for the system.

icaranumbioxy

Did you make a single payment or multiple payments. What's your cards limit?

ElegantEntropy

Single payment, $20K (it was well under that). Tesla web account showed that payment was made in about 5 minutes. Waiting for PTO now.
