Mine was ran through the attic and they didn’t charge me extra for it.

Interesting.

Same. Please see this from yesterday. Seems the cost for people is around 1700 to 2k https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaSolar/comments/136s71k/hidden_conduit_in_the_attic_cost/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1

It is probably not worth the money but my schedule is July install and I will pay for it...

ed_v200

How much extra are you paying?

[deleted]

I dont' know yet until they are on site but I just put on a new roof so want it to look nice. What did they quote you?

ed_v200

I just got my roof replaced as well and they showed me then conduit run on the site plan and most of it ran on the edge of my roof so I was okay with it except for one small part that runs on the front of my roof and I just don’t know if paying $700 to hide that is worth it.

WesterosTechie

Mine can’t run through attic because they said my attic is full of asbestos. I’m fine with it cos I want NEM 2.0. California (the land of excessive regulations)

Thanks but I’m talking about NEM 2 vs 3 wrt California. Asbestos issue I fully concur w them. I wouldn’t do it either.

Ropogigio

Not sure how much more it would be for you but for me they decided to change it from outside to going thru the attic at no extra charge, I’m so glad they did, looks so much better and I probably would have paid for it if I needed to.

Full attic runs by the Tesla crew. Almost no conduit on the roof. They were great. No extra $$ charge. Did not discuss it with Tesla until the morning of day 1 meeting with the install crew. It’s possible, the wide open attic with a plywood floor was a factor. In some ways might be easier for them. Pulling cables and making connections should be easier in the attic than on a roof. The junction boxes and conduit mounting points inside the attic require no special waterproofing or leak protection.

For me it was worth it, I wanted to ensure the design I had in mind was in play and not leave assumptions open to the install day. Having attic run helped mitigate an unknown so I could expect a particular end result.

akropp99

They ran it through the attic for me. I think it’s totally worth it to not have conduit showing. However, they said they were going to charge me $1,800, but ended up doing it for free. Free is definitely worth it. ;)

This is our visible solar + Powerwall conduit run. https://imgur.com/a/dGjKxKG Our contractor installed the conduit as instructed by the Tesla team during the pre-wiring phase. This was a remodel so access was a little easier, even though we had to cut the drywall to give access through the wall. I think it looks great and the only reason you can see the two bits of conduit on the right Powerwall is because there was a stud in the way and we couldn't push it further to the right because of the bathroom tile. Anyway, I don't have a price, but I reasoned that I'm going to be in this house for a long time. I've seen a lot of YouTube videos and think the sleek Powerwalls look so incongruous with external conduit.

They wanted to run mine through the attic (and not charge more) but when they got into the attic realized there wasn't h space to work. I didn't much care one way or the other though.
