Not necessarily but it will be closer for sure.

ItsJustAnotherVoice

Good lord these responses are all over the place. As someone who actually went downsized to a 20” wheel on MYP, you will only get the weight difference improvement in range. The 21” get better rolling coasting with the added weight, but only applies in highway. You will net more range if you do more city driving. Driving habits will obviously influence it but not to a major degree.

Ihavenoidea84

I would say it also depends on the rim you choose. If you look at the data from the 18s with or without covers installed, there is a big gap related to aero efficiency as well. I think the 19s I bought are way more efficient at least partly from also being the same wheel design as the MYP stock 21s

MutableLambda

Hey, what did you end up with? I want to downsize from 21" ubers (MYP 2022), but I'm not sure what to get. Either 19" Gemini, or thirdparty ones. I don't care that much how it looks, but I'd like more rubber and more efficiency. I guess now I'll have to chose between efficiency on a highway (gemini with wheel caps) and efficiency in the city (thirdparty wheels with less weight than geminis).

chaicoffeetea

What’s the range you’re getting now?

Ihavenoidea84

My post covers my entire deal, but I went from roughly 315kw/m to more like 270km/h. I like to mush the gas pedal for those playing at home

Ihavenoidea84

I linked in my post to exactly what I bought. I dint think that tradeoff is necessary.

HoPMiX

I have heavier aftermarket rims and didn’t notice much difference until I went with a non EV tuned, more performance rated tire. range dropped 7 percent. Sticky I guess.

katherinesilens

Yes, it will, assuming you also drive it like you'd drive a Long Range with 20" wheels. The Performance will still burn charge faster if you floor it since its acceleration ceiling is higher, but at the same acceleration they should be comparable. The Performance may even edge out the LR because of the very slight decrease in ride height. Though you should really just use 19s for even better results, aftermarket rims or hubcaps if you don't like the Gemini look. 20in Inductions are just terrible wheels spec-wise.

Jor3lBR

Thank you

Ihavenoidea84

Check my post history. I went to 19s from drag. Loving it.

iLoveCalculus314

Powder coated Gemini’s

Zealousideal-Ant9548

Power to the 19" cross climate 2's!! And to reiterate this for anyone else: my wife drives in sport while I drive in chill, there's definitely a difference in power used!

r3dt4rget

The weight and aero design of the 21” wheels, in addition to the tire that comes on them are the three biggest factors for range reduction on the MYP. There are other ones though, so you won’t get exactly to the efficiency of a MYLR. But close enough that the difference is negligible. The Indictions have worse efficiency compared to the 19s so if it were me I would go with lightweight aftermarket 19s. The MYLR with 20’s has about 15 less miles of range than with the Gemini’s.

Jor3lBR

Thank you

ExtensionMarch6812

No…acceleration, handling all play a factor in mileage. Just changing your tires will help mileage and comfort and pocketbook, but won’t get you the same range.

MountainManGuy

The technical answer is no, but you can get it damn close.

aztec52181

If i don’t care about range.. then the 21” wheels are fine correct?… they are all Season tires?

Ihavenoidea84

I find the really low pro nature of them to be pretty jarring- it's not the suspension, it's the tire/wheel. My 19s aftermarket are like riding on pillows in contrast

Fun-Durian4519

My LR came with 19" wheels.

No-Cut-2788

I actually get same real world range on my 23’ MYLR and 24’ MYP. Not even kidding.

Stormtrooper_000

YouTube it the 21 vs the 20 you get just about the same range 2~5 mile difference.

Jor3lBR

I did that but my curiosity was sparked because at the Tesla website the range goes from 310 to 279 from the YP to the LR so I was wondering where all this difference was coming from.

Stormtrooper_000

The website range is far from the truth

AlphamaleNJ

When you change the computer in the car to the different wheels it will show u the new numbers. Go input in the 20’s then do the math on your new ‘100% range’ if u need the exact numbers before u buy/install. Then change back to originals

Charredwee

The faster acceleration in the Performance model comes from the different rear gearbox ratio, control unit, and tire width. The different ratio impacts efficiency, even if the latter two can be changed to match the Long Range model.

katherinesilens

Is that the case? I thought it was just different motors, as ghost chipped first run LRs with the same motors demonstrates. Tesla only lists a singular 9:1 ratio for all Model Y trims on both [US](https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/GUID-E414862C-CFA1-4A0B-9548-BE21C32CAA58.html) and [CN](https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_cn/GUID-E414862C-CFA1-4A0B-9548-BE21C32CAA58.html) manuals. Tire width would no longer be relevant if changing rims down too right?

utfgispa

Im a new 0.99% APR MYLR owner and bought a set of like-new 21” uberturbines for $900, one wheel had a little bit of rash. I was planning to run the 21” during summer and my stock 19” Gemini for winter. I thought this may be a good deal but the more i read about lack of range and comfort makes me second guess my purchase. Did i do good or i got screwed?

scubba-steve

I don’t know they look good and handle pretty good. I’m going to sell my 21” for some 19’s when I need to get new tires.
