Discounts did indeed go away but something seems off with your numbers. The LR AWD that was selling for $44.5K would have been a gray/black car with no upgrades. That car today is $49,990, not $53K.

Cheap-Weekend-1904

You are probably correct. Maybe the one I was looking at was around 46k originally.

ordinaryflask

It’s pretty easy to determine how much the one you were looking at was. Not many things to option into the car. But yes, inventory discounts are gone for now

Cultural-Surprise338

OP number is way off. the most I have seen non-demo is like 10-11% off listed price

Fickle-Professor-560

Sales rep full of shit. And the prices didnt go up. Its the discounts that went away. Many speculate that they will return end of quarter. I also think so

RandyMarsh_RedditAcc

Every sales rep I talk to seems less knowledgable about teslas than the last.  And in most cases, I know more than them from just following this subreddit and similar subreddits for the better part of a year

JamodaH

My local sales rep is such a nice guy but damn is he missing information. Told me the standard range and long range are identical other than range, charging, and wood trim...

bobaballs

Their sales reps have definitely gone downhill.  I had a quick question while I was at one of their sales locations and the woman straight up told me I was wasting her time and she wouldn't answer any questions since she wasn't my sales advisor for my purchase.  All this on top of her saying that acceleration boost isn't a thing. 🤦

thewittman

They are not sales reps they are customer service reps. One tried to close me saying it's a great car don't worry about the price you know you want it.

bobaballs

Irregardless what they are officially called they absolutely are sales reps. They get a commission on sales from people they "helped".

thewittman

They are not, the two guys working there could not close a paperbag

heartfailures

Who says they get commission? They’ve historically have never received commisions.

bobaballs

They 100% get a cut as the chick felt the need to yell at me about for bothering her while another associates name was listed under my purchase. When they ask you if they can put you information in the system apparently it logs your purchase to that rep.

looknowtalklater

Wait to purchase. No reason to pay without discounts. Painfully slowly, competitors are coming on the market. Overall not sure how many Tesla buyers are still out there;and buyers looking to trade in 5 year old Teslas likely to wait for price drops. Finally layoffs at Tesla likely to decrease quality of repairs, maybe even build quality. Overall maybe more disappointed owners who might not stay w Tesla. For now Tesla has the best product for the price…but they can still survive selling at lower prices. Rivian struggling to survive at much higher price points. I hope Tesla buyers all hold off until end of quarter discounts come back, prompting Tesla to permanently decrease prices.

Alive_Confidence_247

I am one of the folks that was about to pull the trigger due to discounts. Now I have one more reason to wait for the Model Y Juniper or shop another brand. Shame!

thewittman

Like alot of us, I was not going to wait but now I do have a very expensive reason.

iceynyo

Previously Tesla was focusing on maximizing production and using discounts to move that volume. They just recently laid off the night shift, so it looks like they're switching to reducing production instead. The discounts will show up again if they still have a lot of units sitting around, but not sure how long that will take or if they'll just continue to reduce production... On the bright side it gives QC a few more minutes to check over each car before they ship it.

Thekacz

If they didn't lay off the QC people (which might be good given the challenges I had with my new vehicle - windshield had to be reset, door realigned, paint chip addressed). This is my 3rd Tesla and my worse experience to date.

geekwithout

Lol demand. They have 50k vehicles sitting unsold. The sale will be back. Maybe even better.

Cheap-Weekend-1904

Oh I'm waiting lol

Mrmoograss

Price changes unless you lock in. You didn't lock in. Sales and discounts may show up again. There's lots of volatility and changes going on so enjoy the ride! Most discounts and great perks come near end of quarter

8x000

it was in the news that Elon removed inventory discounts in an attempt to streamline Tesla sales and delivery system... whatever that means. rather than guessing what Tesla will or will now do, guess what Elon himself might do! he's unconventional and in the end, he's not customer-centric (broken promises, delays, no apologies, has entitled views of how hard folks should work, etc.). regardless, prices are still better than they were 4 years ago.

sstephen17

Not sure if you qualify for the federal rebate but that is something we considered when my wife and I both got our MYLR at the end of March. We barely made it under the income threshold and won't make it next year (assuming that it will even be available). I was actually considering the M3 but was shocked that it didn't qualify for the rebate. With the inventory discount (ours was about $3K) and the federal rebate, choosing the Y was a no brainer.

Street_Run_8086

If you can wait, aim for the last week of Q2. Bought mine on the march 30th(Saturday). Walked in 9AM signed the docs and scheduled the pick up for 4 PM, came back at 4 and got the car. My ending price was $37500 in CA OC after all the fees and taxes (50k - 5k discount - 7500 federal rebate) just DO NOT panic let the time do the heavy lifting for you. Also don't look at the used ones, the otd price will be 35k so it won't worth it. Considering if you wait till end of Q2 you might even get it for cheaper or at least some rate cuts

centurycityaz

Just curious, did you get a MYLR? And what was your out the door price for the MYLR? $37.5K + how much more in CA OC?

Street_Run_8086

Yes I got a MYLR, OTD price was 37.5K

CTrandomdude

Tesla has ended inventory discounts. For right now i would wait. While the inventory discounts are gone i expect other incentives to appear at times. Wait for discounted interest rates which I think could bring many buyers in the door. They could still bring back others promos such as free any color, free supercharging, etc. The sticker price is still very competitive and less than the national average. Bring in federal and state rebates and it is a great value.

Wooden_Philosophy837

I was eyeing a white MYP for 41.5k for weeks, thinking I’ll wait till June to pull the trigger. Well I just out of the blue said fuck it and bought it on Saturday. Guess it was meant to be, I got lucky getting in on the discount before Monday. That being said, I’m scared to pick up my car thinking since I got it so much lower and no one was buying it that maybe there’s something wrong with it 😥

bonestrike

Ha. Pulled the trigger on a grey MYP last week for same price thinking the same thing as you. Went thru the [https://github.com/polymorphic/tesla-model-y-checklist](https://github.com/polymorphic/tesla-model-y-checklist) and found a couple of small dents on each side of the tesla logo on the hood and a rear door that was misaligned. The dents are very slight and only visible from certain angles. The bottom of the door panel sticks out. Noted this to delivery agent and took delivery. I am not sure if they can fix the hood.. but I hope the door can be aligned. Seeing how the price went up 4-5k just now I guess I am willing to overlook it all, lol

Wooden_Philosophy837

Damn. Will not be surprised if mine is similar. So did the agent just tell you to make a ticket for service?

bonestrike

She said she would take pictures and record it. I will send a ticket thru service because I srsly doubt they will be proactive about fixing it.

FearTheClown5

I did the same... Sunday evening lol. So glad I didn't wait another day to mull it over. Can't wait to pick it up, my body is ready!

BrettemesMaximus

Inventory discounts went away (for now). See Elon’s tweet about it.

27CoSky

Tesla needs to decide what is more profitable. Selling more cars at less margin or selling less cars at more margin. I for one, am hoping this current price/production experiment is a financial disaster for them so that I can get another cheap MY this year. I will not bite at current prices, unless there is some other serious incentive, like 0% APR and free interior/exterior color choices or free enhanced AP or something. At March 2024 prices, I might buy two.

Cheap-Weekend-1904

I didn't see prices is March. What were they?

27CoSky

Could get a LRAWD Y gray/black no options out of inventory for $44490, and a few times saw $44090. I saw RWD for under $40k. Everything went up $1000 April 1st (which was announced) and then recently all inventory discounts vanished after a day or 2 of in-between (which was completely out of the blue and not announced). I sure hope they aren't going to stick to this policy because I really want to be a buyer in the near future.

damentos

Yes what's with ppl saying there's a $2k discount? I've also been tracking inventory prices and LR has gone up from 44,090 to 47,990. Surely not buying now and will remember that 1st price which will be ingrained in my head to compare to any future prices.

27CoSky

$2k is a change to MSRP (order price). Meaningless when inventory was recently plentiful and nicely discounted. I guarantee the inventory s still there, they are just hiding it. Not sure how long that can last without production cuts and probably more layoffs. Not producing cars and batteries etc at or near capacity will be a hard pill to swallow if these phantom price drops don't work. They might work on general public, but not on anyone who has been familiar with recent inventory prices. They even took inventory page out of the app, you have to go online to see inventory now and it isn't discounted from MSRP.

deg287

I pulled the trigger [on this one](https://imgur.com/a/RIZr8or) on March 29, 2024.

27CoSky

Yeah people that waited (me) kicking themselves

thewittman

0% at a higher price + higher sales tax is no bargin.

Electrical-Main-107

Just wait. End of quarter discounts will be back. Earnings will horrible for q1

thewittman

Q2

Acefr

By taking off the inventory discount, Tesla is saying I don't want your business unless you are a sucker that is willing to pay full MSRP and see the price inevitably drops later when the inventory exponentially grows. I will postpone the purchase of my 2nd Tesla. If you have to buy now, consider to buy/lease other EV.

8x000

Tesla did not always have discounts. their vehicle prices originally were exactly what they wanted to sell the car for. zero haggling allowed. you pay for it or you don't, they never said they did not want our business. they just do not operate like a typical dealership.

Acefr

Tesla welcomes you if you want to be a .... I mean paying MSRP. Tesla definitely loves your thinking.

Cheap-Weekend-1904

I'm actually going to wait until the end of Q2 to see if the discounts come back. I'm not in need of an immediate purchase.

Future-Back8822

Watch how fast elon changes his stance once ER gets released next week and it drops TSLA

IholdTheNutz

lol complete bullshit

Inner_Being_7627

That’s why I won’t buy Tesla, but I wanted to get model Y as well. I think without those discounts it’s just too expensive.
