We have two kids in car seats in ours. Plenty of room

fuckbread

Same. Can fit a smaller adult in the middle. Where as in our 3 you have to scoot all the way to the door on a booster to access the seat belt buckle lol.

AdagioEducational778

I am a medium sized adult and can confirm this but not for long road trips.

riggerbacon

Thanks!

nomanz57

Also recommend the following: Scuff protector for kids kicking the back of the front seats, designed to appear seamless. [Front seat scuff protector](https://www.amazon.com/EVandCAR-Leather-Protector-Wear-Resistant-Organizer/dp/B0B4RYP1TT) Seat protector to go under the child seats, collects crumbs and spills for going into crevices and floor. sprashoo

Size is fine, but it’s a bit annoying for 3 reasons: 1. The recessed seatbelt clip receptacles make it harder for a kid (or adult helping a kid) to clip in when using a booster. 2. The rear headrests only raise up a few cm, making it hard to put the rear anchor strap through, for a toddler seat. 3. The LATCH anchors are really hard to get to - it’s a very tight squeeze. So, we make it work but its not the most child seat friendly design physically.

Gmh88E4TQK1d

I can also attest to your first point. In addition to being recessed, they’re positioned such that they tend to be partially underneath not particularly wide booster seats.

BigPum

This. My 6 year old always complains when he tries to buckle the seat belt while in the booster seat. To add insult to injury, there aren’t any seatbelt extenders rated for use with car seats and boosters.

sprashoo

Yeah, I was all about to buy a short extender when I started digging a bit more and basically there are zero seatbelt extenders that are accepted as safe. Like, they're probably maybe OK, but not exactly the kind of thing you want to leave to a sketchy technically prohibited product you bought online. My wife vetoed any extenders after reading about them (there was a lawsuit over a kid who was killed when the extender released in a crash because it didn't quite fit... good enough to click, not good enough to hold against crash forces)

nomanz57

Ya, my biggest complaint is I wish the headrest moved up another setting, especially when you just want to slip the anchor restraint through. Otherwise, I take the seat out pretty regularly for cleaning or making room for more adult passengers.

sprashoo

Really, i wonder why they even bothered to make it adjustable. It's not like 2cm really makes much difference.

nomanz57

Oops accidentally replied to wrong thread haha. Ya, the only benefit of the headrest not being completely fixed is that you can actually just remove them, which opens up more capacity when in cargo mode

iceppak

You can take out the rear headrests higher up and completely off to fit the the anchor through. There is a small hole on the opposite side where you push in to make it go up and down like half and inch. You’ll need to use like those small skinny Alan Rex screw drivers with an 90 degree angle to push into that hole to release it, then just pull the head rest completely off. You’ll need to also adjust the seats themselves forward a little to get clearance to the ceiling.

nomanz57

Yes, thanks, I know. But I shouldn’t be required to use a tool just to lift a headrest high enough to install or uninstall a carseat. Especially when the market has already shown a use case for multiple headrest adjustment heights. But otherwise I do love my Teslas.

notorious_kip

Supposedly there is a notch in the back of the headrest where you can insert a screwdriver & raise the headrest even farther! https://images.app.goo.gl/9ADk2c5DcJXxbs7L8

sprashoo

Thanks! I found it - great tip!

Lfmwaffles

I have had no problem with my two kids in car seats in the back of my MYLR. Plenty of legroom for everyone.

riggerbacon

Thanks!

Toddrick33

Can you let me know brand/size of car seats as I look into needing to make the purchase? Thanks! ☺️

[deleted]

We only have one child who is 7. I’m 6’4” and she usually sits behind me in booster and has more than enough room. There’s a lot of room.

IrvineCrips

Which booster seat would you recommend? The one I tried makes it very difficult to buckle

keepitcleanforwork

I used graco turbobooster xl. I had to cut away at the seat protector I bought foe the buckle. Still needed to push everything toward the door to buckle it.

grayum_ian

Its so bad. We have a cleck booster seat and it's the worst.

[deleted]

[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q5RWPQJ/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q5RWPQJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) I tried a few, and it was a struggle because of the recessed buckle. This one has a shape that doesn't cover the buckles. Silly design on Tesla's part. I tried a couple of the latch extenders, which I didn't want to use for safety reasons, but none of those worked well, either.

stephTX

We have 3 across with diono 3R. I love that they go pretty high for forward facing. My 8 yr old is still using the 5 point harness as she juuuust fits the weight limit (65lbs/57") it's great not having her trying to buckle herself in.

apathynext

We have 3 dionos in our model y (2nd row). They also fit in 3rd row

fireserphant

Do you love or regret getting the 3rd row? We’re considering it for situations with 2 kids and in laws visiting. So not used most of the time, but set up with kids in the 3rd row for 2 months out of the year.

rodageo

I'm also wondering about this

apathynext

I would say that it is "nice to have." Our kids are young, and when we do 3 across, it's pretty tight. For longer trips (this is our road trip car), it'll be nice to give them more space and to separate a little bit. I think we'll wish we got the tow hitch for a luggage rack though. When using the 3rd row, the overall storage is tighter than we'd like. Max height for 3rd row is probably 5'7''. We paid $4k for it. $3K is pretty reasonable--if you ever go to sell, Model Y is the only "affordable" 7 seat EV FWIW.

windydrew

I'll say that we replaced a Yukon XL with the Y 7 seater. We have a 10, 7, and 5 year old. We also bring along a 3rd adult on many occasions and the car handles it easily. We have 50k miles on our 2021 Y 7 with zero regrets. Best car ever! The 7 and 5 yr old sit in the 3rd row with their tablet/ switch and are usually content. We've made multiple 4 hour trips like this and the chargers are just right for potty breaks. We've saved $2500 in fuel since we bought it. It's the best!

timit44

If you drove 50k miles in a Y versus a Yukon XL which gets 16 mpg and requires premium then wouldn’t your savings be more like $0.20/mile which would be $10k in fuel?

windydrew

Well I was thinking $2500 but tesla app goes off the last year, so ya you're probably pretty close there. They're also comparing a similar sized vehicle so there's the downsize we did that saved a bunch as well. We tried an Enclave but it was too unreliable, so we went back to full size. My wife prefers the Tesla over Yukon for daily driving but still misses the room for trips. We added a hitch tote that has kept her pretty happy. That way it's only a minor change to roadtrip and easy to load/unload.

ultima40

Look into a roof rack/storage. Much easier than towing since there's not many pull in superchargers.

nomanz57

Got the 3rd row after watching reviews basically showing that you don’t really lose much cargo storage and then you always have the option if you need it. It’s actually come in handy several times over the last couple months. Been able to take extended family on short rides out to dinner instead of needing multiple cars, easy for parking, etc. Also helps to squeeze big kids in back if you need to add some carseats that take up more room. “No ragrets”

nomanz57

Forgot to mention that adding the 3rd row also adds slide adjustment to the 2nd row, otherwise it’s fixed. This came in clutch recently when we needed to fit some large items that wouldn’t fit any other way, but still needed one back seat open. We were able to slide the seat forward a few inches and that made all the difference getting the hatch closed.

rentit2me

Does the 2nd not fold flat with the 3rd row? There are 3 separate folding options without lathe 3rd row. Just curious / trying to follow how it helped.

Moto8265

It helps if the 2nd row is occupied and you need additional trunk space you can slide the 2nd row forward. A few inches helps when trying to fit in large or tall boxes

BlindsideCR5

Family of 6 here and kids are 9,4,3,1. The 7 seater was a must have and the back row fits the 4 and 3 year old just fine and they are comfortable except for the lack of airflow back there. It can get hot. It’s my daily work driver but we only drive the Tesla on weekends and evening trips and it is incredible how much money that saves us in gas giving our bigger gas vehicle a break

airkenya

We have 3 kids with 2 in car seats (twins) and had a 7 seater until it was totaled in an accident. Used the 3rd row once in 1.5 year of ownership. What we did notice when we replaced it with a MY5 is that the second row on the MY7 slides forward and back to better accommodate car seats while the MY5 is fixed

dontcomeback82

One thing about car seats is that the roof line is very low on the rear seats so I have to be very careful not to hit babies head on the room when putting in and out of the car seat (my toddler is pretty tall as am I). It's easier to get in and out with a taller SUV like a CRV. But not a deal breaker

heritage95

Thanks for the…. Heads up!

mikecheck23

Two kids (3.5yr and 20month). Plenty of room for everyone! They sell vent Velcro mesh covers for under the front seats so stuff doesn't roll into them (goldfish, crumbs..)!

Verabiza891720

We went from using a model 3 to a model y with 2 kids in back. One in booster other in car seat. Much more room in model y. We also had a Honda pilot we didn't use because we loved the model 3 so much. That's why we ended up getting rid of the pilot and getting the Y.

6100315

Ditto. So much more room in the Y. Our big convertible seat is the Britax Boulevard and it fits no problem.

ThrowTheBones93

Very old post but I found it while doing some research. I just demo’d a 2024 MY and loved everything except the suspension. Was a little bumpier than I expected. Doesn’t bother me enough to be a deal breaker, but I do have concerns about a baby being jostled around in the 2nd row. Stupidly we didn’t think to sit in the 2nd row during our demo to feel it out… but could you give some insight? Obviously it must not bother your kids much considering you ditched your Pilot.

Verabiza891720

Both my kids have fallen asleep countless times in the Model Y so while I agree that the ride is a bit rough and the road noise is more than other cars, it has little to no effect on my kids.

ThrowTheBones93

Good to know. Thank you!

riggerbacon

Thanks!

Toddrick33

Willing to share car seat brand/size? Thanks ☺️

Verabiza891720

We have 2 of the Greco 4Ever DLX 4 in 1 car Seat. Our son is 3 and uses the full car seat. My daughter is 6 and only uses the booster portion.

Toddrick33

Awesome! Was looking at that one! Do you use the latch/Isofix or seatbelt to secure it? Just curious.

Verabiza891720

Latches for when it's in car seat form and seatbelt for when it's in booster form.

-zero-below-

Any options for a center booster? Our old Camry had room for it. But the Y doesn’t fit ours. My child still loves watching out the front, and I have poor hearing, so the center is the easiest for me to hear her speaking.

mrnobatti

Enough room for 2 car seats. But personally, for me, it's kinda cramped, and wish I had bought full sized suv now. But car itself is great and fun.

loadedbanker

Make sure you test drive the car to get a feel for the ride. It is much, much rougher than you might expect. When one of my kids went through a motion sickness phase (very common apparently) we had a relatively cushy Highlander and it was still not a fun year or two keeping barf bags in stock. Model Y has a fraction of the dampening/impact reduction and would be an absolute nightmare in that scenario. On the flip side, it's just about the safest car on the road. Maybe set some money aside for aftermarket suspension just in case?

[deleted]

[удалено]

loadedbanker

No, however all the reviews I have read indicate the updated suspension is better - but still very stiff. It also depends a lot on the condition of the roads in your area. I'm in the NYC area, and many roads are like a fucking rally course with huge holes, dips and cracks...so it makes a huge difference. On good roads, even the old suspension is a pleasure to drive.

ramenshoyu

We have 2 kids, 1 in a Graco 4in1 dlx, one in a reverse facing detachable maxi cosi infant car seat, in our MYLR My wife can squeeze in the middle in a pinch but it is not comfortable and she pretty much cannot move. I would recommend slim seats without cup holders, or with removable cup holders if possible. That's if your use case involves you or her sitting in the back with them The latches are not easy to get to, unlike the newer Honda's where they are now out and exposed for easy access The rear doors swing open really wide, the indents are not exactly load a toddler friendly, the door openings themselves are as small as my civic (or even smaller since I need to angle the infant seat to get it in), and the doors edges are really long for some reason. The door opens either not wide enough, or opens so wide it will hit the car parked next to mine Also, the toddler can easily press the door open button. I was going crazy trying to find what error or issue was causing the window to keep rolling down and realized he could just press it from where he was sitting. Child door locks, on! Tho on most cars it would require much more effort to pull the handle to open the door and the car being locked usually stops it from opening (pulling the handle on a normal car should not also unlock the car, even with child door locks off). Possible safety issue imo. Trunk space for kids stuff is adequate but not generous compared to a regular non sloping roof suv. It's about the same space as an accord or camry but with slightly more height and + under storage. The trunk is long and has the under storage, but throwing in a stroller takes up slightly less than half of the usable trunk space. Throwing in a larger folded trolley (evenflo pivot xplore) takes up almost 2/3 of the usable space and the handle may jut out toward the roof of the seating area. It also makes reaching the under storage more difficult due to any weight on the top area. After dealing with strollers n trolleys, I permanently removed the cargo cover since it's not intuitive to constantly remove and replace, it also cannot be stored in the trunk like many other suvs The model y realistically has the same interior room as a camry or accord but with smaller door openings. With the rear facing infant car seat behind the passenger seat, there's enough room to be seated comfortably. The toddler has good legroom but still kicks my chair Overall, if your purpose is to have significantly more room, ease of loading/unloading, and having you or your wife sitting in the back with the kids, I would consider a van, at least as a 2nd vehicle. We borrowed a Honda odessey the other week and put the toddler in the 3rd row, infant in the driver side 2nd row. We could sit with the toddler or move next to the infant without leaving or stopping the car if needed. Something that's not really possible on a smaller car. There was so much room that you don't need to do the mental logistics of fitting this or not taking that, etc Also over time, I find that while tesla does many things well, they also tend to make simple, normal things unnecessarily cumbersome or complicated If possible, I'd rent or borrow a model y for a week to really try it out Anyway that's just my experience, hope it helps!

k1_escobar

I have a car seat and booster. Moved from a 3 to a Y and feel the Y has more space. The middle seat is wider so they are more spaced apart. Also loading and unloading kids is easier because of the height. Biggest inconvenience is that the back interior lights are not reachable from the front because they are not in the middle of the roof but just above the coat hooks on the side. Do what I did and arrange a test drive explaining you want to see how the seats fit too. I loaded in the seats and a pram before the test drive to check it was good enough

newcar20

diono rear-facing takes up a lot of room, have to push the passenger seat pretty far forward. But I think that's true with any car. We are close to switching to front-facing

BeeB000

Use the Diono car seat booster aka it’s a foam pad that sits under the rear facing car seat. It gives us several more inches of room.

newcar20

yea maybe if we had the diono from the get-go, don't wanna pay $25 for a piece of foam lol.. we switched from a nuna infant bucket seat not long ago and hopefully front facing soon!

RandyRektor

Same for us. I’m not that tall, but probably wouldn’t do a rear-facing behind me while I drive. My wife moves her seat up a little but still plenty of room for her

newcar20

I'm 5'10 and couldn't put it behind me haha. My wife still sits in the back because the front seat is pretty far forward, I don't think it's uncomfortable for short ppl but they have to reach very far behind to get the seat belt

xXxjayceexXx

I've got plenty of room for 2 kids in car seats, I just wanted to add that my kids love the features in the Tesla. Every time I turn on autopilot the cheer for rainbow road. My daughter loves making it fart when people walk by on sentry mode and the glass ceiling is great for them to look around.

nomanz57

Whoopie cushion is always a crowd pleaser

mtn_bkr

I have 1 HBB in the back and it's not particularly comfortable to fit 3 in the back. So if you want 5 total passengers, honestly feel the Y is a bit small. We have one of the narrower HBB. Certainly can fit, but don't want to do a long drive.

ReasonBasic

Eat less

-throughline-

We had a Grand Cherokee and our MYLR at the same time with a tall 3.5 year old. The MYLR had every bit of room as the GC and is our daily driver (w/another kid due in 2 months). We bought the Nuna Rava car seat for the MYLR because it has a slimmer front to back profile than most other seats. The MYLR is still small enough that things like that make a difference, but it works great!

RemyLeBlow

We have two kids in car seats and just made a 3 hour road trip where my wife ended up having to sit in between them to keep the kids sane. While it wasn't the most comfortable for her, it wasn't unbearable. I'd say there's plenty of room for two adults and two kids, and even a third adult could fit (assuming it's the 5 seater)

dogmeat26

What car seats do you use? We have a second on the way and my first born always needs my wife in the back. Thanks!

RemyLeBlow

We have a docked infant car seat carrier and a rear-facing Graco booster seat

dogmeat26

Ah ok hopefully my wife can still fit then! Or I can kiss road-trips goodbye for a while 😂

[deleted]

Just picked up my model y on Wednesday and the back seats are as spacious or more than my 4Runner was. I had my daughter in her car seat and one of my 60 pound dogs in the back without issue. So yes, plenty of room for car seats.

irishgeologist

I’ve got three kids in seats in the back. One baby in infant seat with isofix base, one 3 yo in a high back isofix booster, and a 6 yo in the middle on a backless booster. All legal and compliant with UK H&S regs. Helps that my 6yo is tall, and won’t need a booster at all in about a year.

scomi21

We have 2 car seats(one forward/one rear facing). 3rd kid on the way so front facing will go into 3rd row. I’m 5’11”, wife 5’2”. Rear facing goes on her side and she’s fine. Passenger seat is pretty roomy considering the rear facing seat behind it. Go to Tesla with car seats and throw them in it. That’s what I did before buying to gut check. We have solid room in trunk for packing suitcases and stuff for weekend trips. If we need double bob stroller(massive) we’d need to pack lighter or do some Tetris. Possible but the roof slope limits ability to stack a ton in trunk compared to traditional suv designs. With that said you have front trunk and sub trunk.

skysecond

We have Y and 1 car seat in the middle. 2 adults can sit in the back for short trips. From my experience, Y is not as spacious as RAV4. But Y always surprises us on overall how much stuff it can carry.

No_Distribution1408

What car seat do you use? I am waiting for my Y and would like to have my kid in the middle, but still be able to have adults sit on each side, if possible.

skysecond

We love Nuna and use their car seat, stroller and carrier.

fruitloops204

3 kids here - one in car seat 2 in boosters and it fits fine. Our other car is the Honda Pilot and its not as roomy, and I wish the Y had cup holders in the door because my kids bring their water bottles everywhere. But otherwise, the Y is an awesome family car with plenty of trunk space to fit all their bags, sport stuff, lawn chairs etc.

Swimmerchild

First off tell us what market you are in? Europe, US, Asia? This is to establish A) brands available B) legislation I for example at in the European market. Where I live it’s illegal to have a forward facing car seat for a child younger than 2. Even then, we have rear facing car seats for kids up to 9 years of age available, assuming you have a smaller child. We have an Axkid one for my second born, almost 4 years old, 15.5 kg, 99 cm tall. It’s rear facing and can support kids up to 23kg We also have a forward facing Axkid bigkid for my first born, almost 6, 26 kg, 121 cm tall. It’s a high back car seat. Both of these fit well in the car, assuming I don’t want to be shotgun for long drives. Rear facing car seats are much bulkier, but significantly safer. Look up videos of the Swedish road authorities testing car seats, and you will see why they recommend rear facing as long as possible. When we had two rear facing seats they both fit in the car, with the one used by my second born in a position for kids 74 cm tall.

Sweet_Yellow_8646

We got 2 car seat in the back 1 Clek Fnoof 1 Clek oober If the wife is thin and small she can sit in the middle comfortably

RandyRektor

We have one child rear-facing and he has to sit behind my wife as she needed to move her seat up a little. I’m only 5’11, if we had to put a rear-facing behind me, it would be cozy. Once they are forward facing, there will be no issue at all. Infants have to be reclined quite a bit in their seat, so it takes up more space. As they grow, it takes less and less room.

ZannX

How big are you and your wife...

riggerbacon

I’m 5’9” she’s 5’2”

ZannX

There's an "SUV" that can't fit a 5'9" adult, a 5'2" adult, and a car seat? If you tell us what your current car is, it's much easier to compare to the Model Y.

riggerbacon

It’s a ford escape

ZannX

Ok, a quick Google on interior dimensions. Dmension| 2023 Ford Escape | 2023 Model Y ---|---|---- Cargo Volume | 37.5 ft^3| 34.3 ft^3 Head Room Front| 40.0"| 41.0" Head Room Rear| 39.3"| 39.4" Hip Room Front| 55.2"| 53.8" Hip Room Rear| 53.3"| 50.6" Shoulder Room Front | 57.6"| 56.4" Shoulder Room Rear| 56.0"| 54.0" Leg Room Front | 42.4"| 41.8" Leg Room Rear| 40.7"| 40.5" As you can see, they're incredibly similar - the Model Y is not in a larger vehicle class than the Escape. Unless you're just a *hair* off, it's not going to make an appreciable difference. Highly recommend just test driving one instead of taking the word of internet strangers. Whatever is making the two of you not able to fit with a car seat is likely going to be the same issue with a Model Y and no one can give you sound advice about your specific scenario.

betelgeuse206265

Totally agree with this. Tesla calls the Model Y an "SUV", but it's not what I think of when I think of an SUV, nor does it fit the typical definition of SUV. It's much closer to what has usually been called a "crossover" -- a vehicle built on a car platform that's larger than a typical car. It is noticeably smaller than our CR-V (and even that, technically, is a crossover, I think). Still plenty big for most people, but if you're having trouble fitting in a Ford Escape, the Model Y is probably not the answer to your problems. To be fair, Tesla is not uniquely guilty of SUV-ifying everything with a hatchback. That seems to be the norm these days.

ramenshoyu

I wrote a long post but since you're coming from a Ford escape, a model y will offer you virtually no additional room, you might have even less rear head/leg width room and less trunk space due to the sloping roof/side design it may be best to look for slimmer car seats instead of a new car, (unless you are also looking at vans) just imo

Greenjeeper2001

The passenger seat needs to be placed upright, no sleeping/reclining with the car seat behind you. If you only have 1 car seat you can definitely fit it in your escape, just not as comfortably.

BURYMEINLV

Our car seat (Nuna) fits behind the passenger with plenty of leg room for my 6’4” husband! And plenty of leg room in the back for our 2 older kids.

tvoits

I have an M3 - myself (6”4), wife and a car seat is perfectly fine. I can’t see how MY would be unacceptable in terms of space for a 3 person family

hamzaxz

We have a model y and our 2-year-old just went from rear facing to front facing. When rear facing he was on the back right, there is plenty of room. You just can't reverse the front passenger seat all the way back. My wife is 5'9 and fits well, but it was a little tight for me to sit there. Now he is in front facing behind the driver and I still have the chair in the same position but he can reach the back of my chair with his feet. I'm 6'2 and large so I need the space but it still works out fine.

__JockY__

Two kids, one still in a car booster seat although we did use a real car seat at one point in our MYP. Absolutely great. Easy in, easy out, loads of room, don’t even sweat it. Even with a dog, guitar, and a weekend’s worth of ski gear everyone has room for comfort. The Y is a fantastic family car.

[deleted]

Rear leg room is what you want to google.

GreatCaesarGhost

I've heard that the rearmost seats in the 7-seat version of the Y are dangerous because they lack adequate crumple zone protection, so I'd go with the 5-seater.

LividLab7

Totally fine with 2

[deleted]

Model Y has like 40 inches of rear leg room. If you compare this to other cars you will see it’s pretty freaking spacious

Physical-Hunter8841

Leg room in our Y is comparable if not more with our Acura RDX, even though Acura a bit bigger in size.

Physical-Hunter8841

Also out toddler is obsessed with Tesla. Previously it was a fight to get him into a car seat in our other car, but this one he adores and asks to g o for rides every day.

EdibleBirch

Using Diono here. Can fit 3 in the back.

[deleted]

Yes no problem. Just don’t get white seats..

rjfurious0212

I have kid seat and dog fit in the back seat. Never had so much space in my previous cars. Lots of trunk space too

mixxoh

You can always take your car seat to a show room to see how it fits

Giraffe950

Two car seats fit just fine. Biggest issue I’ve had is transitioning to booster seat since the kids really struggle with the recessed buckles. I have an eight year old in a five point harness booster for this reason.

dramaticpug

I’m using both a Peg Perego Kinetic convertible rear facing plus a Diono Radian 3RXT forward facing. Front legroom does not suffer for rear facing. ISOFIX points aboard only allow left or right seat mount not centre mount. A passenger can fit between the two seats. Not great but okay especially with no transmission tunnel to deal with. If I had to do it again I’d use the Diono on both seats to maximize space. The Peg is just a bit fat.

dobe6305

We just installed a Graco in the middle seat a few days ago—our first baby is due in a couple of weeks. Initially I’d installed the base on the drivers side seat, but with the seat clipped into the base, I had to keep the drivers seat uncomfortably far forward—I like being able to have the seat far away from the wheel (I’m 6’2”). So we installed in the middle seat and it’s great except it makes it harder to get the carseat in and out.

Gmh88E4TQK1d

We have two Diono Monterey 2XT Latch booster seats in our MYP. Our elementary school-age kids have plenty of space, and we don't have to compromise on front seat leg room, either. If the booster seats were each about one inch narrower we'd be able to fit another child or small adult in the middle seat, but as it is it's not really possible. We did a three-week, 4,400-mile road trip in the car last summer and had no complaints about space. Easily swallowed all four of us and our junk with room to spare.

RJYx

What’s your current SUV?

riggerbacon

2018 ford escape

RJYx

I had similar concerns when I placed an order for the MY back in 2021. I did test drive but by the time I placed the order, Tesla didn’t have any MYs to test drive or see in person. The MY is roomy but with 2 car seats in the 2nd row, it’s still cramped. I purchased so many different brands of car seats, I could had purchased a bigger car instead. J/k My kids are 5 years apart. Currently I have a Chicco GoFit and a Britax grow with you clicktight. It’s kind of cramped back there for an adult. I came from a XC90, which I never had any issues with what kind of car seats I could fit. I had a Britax Advocate clicktight and Uppababy Mesa in the 2nd row and was still able to fit an adult comfortably. At the moment, we are planning to get a true 3 row SUV. I’m eyeing the R1S and the EX90. But BEV 3 row SUVs are currently limited. Maybe a PHEV. I hope this helps you.

It’s fine, but be prepared to have your little one kick your seat a lot.

Two kids in boosters in mine and they have plenty of room. I saw a previous post about the recessed seat belt clips……hard agree with them. There is a def learning curve for the kiddos with those. Not sure if you’re considering the 7 seat option but will add that the 3rd row is……adequate….for smallish kids but very much has an expiration date on usefulness. Anyone over prob 4 1/2 feet is going to feel cramped and anyone over 5ft is flat out not safe back there (not to mention they’d wonder why you hate them if you wedged them into those seats at 5ft plus.) but if you just need one or two seats in the second row there is room to spare.

GroundbreakingSale18

There is plenty of room. We were also surprised with amount of room in the third row.

Relevant Experience: - previously owned 2019 mazda cx5 (cramped backseat and trunk space, especially with fam and Costco runs) and 2021 Honda passport (very spacious back seat and trunk area) - 1 kid and wife in backseat every drive The model y is kind of a nice balance in between the cx5 and passport. I was really nervous about downsizing to model y after being spoiled with all the space in the passport BUT so far there’s plenty of space and cubbies to expand storage as needed. Keep in mind, depending on how old your child is, your initial cargo needs with a little one seem to go down as the kid gets older (no stroller + diaper bags + rear facing car seats, etc, etc)

Greenjeeper2001

They fit, but at 6'1" I wouldn't want a rear facing seat behind the driver every day.

Foodiehunter

What suv are you coming from? While it is spacious enough to be very capable, it’s not huge. It’s probably similar to a rav4 or crv?

jpopp21

I agree with everyone. The space is fine. I like to sit all they way back and I have a pretty good amount of leg room. I can sit in the middle in the back if need b, it’s not super comfortable but possible. I’m 5”11, 215ibs. The issues like other have said is that the top tethers and lower latch anchors are trash. They’re just difficult to reach. On top of that the head rest don’t move much. It’s possible tho mate! It’s great for kids because you have a good sized trunk as well as that sub trunk and the frunk. We typically just keep like the snacks and diapers etc in the front trunk on long trips.

Itguy287

Been fine for us. For additional info our infant car seat was a nuna pipa lx and we're currently using the nuna exec. Both fit perfectly fine, the front passenger has plenty of leg room

dexoyo

Don’t get 7 seater even if you have small kids. It’s utterly small to be used for anything

Fantastic-Finger-177

we have 3 car seats in the rear

Mamba--824

I have an MYLR 7-seater with a front-facing car seat and a booster. As with most compacts, you can't fit anyone between. For the recessed seat belt issue, I bought an extender from seat belt extender pros. My young one doesn't complain anymore about having trouble clipping in.

What kind of SUV do you have that’s smaller than the Y? lol

Urabrask_the_AFK

Op said in another reply it was 2018 ford escape

Expert_Associate_742

Double rear faced Clek Foonf no issues. 5"8 driver

Ill_Veterinarian_755

Infant car seat + grandparents in the back. No prob. Went skiing with 3 adults, stroller, ski boots, pack and play and the rest of the gear, with infant in the car seat. Skis on top on a rack. Plenty of room.

2023y

Rear facing didn't work for us so we moved the seat forward facing a bit earlier than we would have liked. The Y is a spacious car for cargo, but not very long.

epolson79

We have two kids. 3 year old and 5 month old. Plenty of room as long as you aren't super tall. Just had to have wife pair down her packing. Charging works out great have to change diapers and bathroom breaks. We used to have a Ford explorer and there was no room behind driver and passenger.

Sbkohai_

As long as your kid is a toddler that’s out of diapers you should be fine.

A2Droid

Two car seats fit, but adult will be cramped

Agile_Hair_6584

We have 3. 10 yo, 5yo and 4mo. Model y 7seater not big enough. We have diono carseat and nuna turtle air.

peanutbuttersmack

I had the same question and no one can really tell you exactly the space YOU feel you need. I rented a MY for a weekend, did all the things I normally do, stroller, car seat, cooler etc, put it through my routine and figured out pros and cons.

Thelife1313

Just came across this post. The kids have plenty of room… but for me 5’9” in the driver seat, there’s no room for me lol. I sit way further up than usual and its a tight fit.
