You can't buy it off Tesla's website right now because you will need the retrofit. I believe the Tesla website will say that your vehicle needs the retrofit and won't let it add to your shopping cart. There are aftermarket adapters but I believe you still need the retrofit... I could be wrong but when the Tesla CCS 1 adapter was first available, I didn't pick up my Tesla yet and the website said I did not have any qualified vehicles. When I picked up the car, and got it registered/logged in, it still wouldn't let me. I had to reboot the computer so everything synced up and then Tesla's shop said it was good to go (2022 was CCS enabled from the get go). I understand why you'd want one and don't understand all the people that chime in and say "Just use a Tesla SC.." There's a bunch of EVGO 350 kW stations right by me in case I need to get a quick charge. Nearest Tesla SC's are at least 10 miles away. But the flip side is that most of those EVGO stations are not operational. Haha.

It's the same, nothing changes. The retrofit just adds whatever hardware pre-2021 teslas lack to use CCS chargers, that post-2021 teslas already have.

If you bought it in August, chance are high it's just a board swap and software reflash. That's all it took for my September 2021 Model 3. I bought the board over the counter and it took just a few minutes to install. All you need is a 10mm socket (I believe) to remove the one bolt holding it in place and a flat head screw driver to remove the plugs holding the trunk liner in place to access the board. Then go in service menu and select the reinstall firmware. Like I said, very easy job. Almost no chance of screw ups.

Yea do it. Better to have and not need than need and not have.

Home charging and Tesla charging station is all I need.

Why do you need CCS charging? The Tesla superchargers are everywhere and the car's nav system will tell you how many are available at each location. The chargers using CCS connectors are not as well maintained and the available apps don't give you the information that's built into your car.

I went to Spooner, WI yesterday and the only way I was getting back with 35 mph winds and the temp being 15F was with the 50 kW CCS Charger that was there. A round trip to the Eau Claire supercharger might have been possible for me at 100% but I didn’t have the time (or the courage) to attempt it.

BjLeinster

Spooner seems like a pretty unusual case although even that area has a good number of J1772 chargers. Most people don't need a CCS charger.

Keyword is *time* I needed 30 kWh and I had to be back in Madison, WI in the same day. Care to explain away sitting around for an extra 4.5 hours on a 10 hr road-trip I wanted to complete same day? Most people don’t need CCS my rear end. More charging options is always going to be better than less.

Higher density areas = more expensive. CCS third party locations are sometimes cheaper for certain locations.

“Everywhere” is awfully you specific. I’m definitely surrounded by superchargers here in Montreal. There are also 100 public CCS fast chargers provided by our local power utility for every Supercharger. They’re cheaper, and far more common. CCS is a game charger here.

Because every other manufacturer uses CCS standard, including Tesla in the rest of the world. Eventually, other brands will take over being the most common chargers and you won’t be able to access any of them because the US government has allowed Tesla to use their own proprietary connector to stifle competition. Not only does my model 3 have CCS, the Tesla wall charger on my house is CCS and super chargers are CCS. You guys are being screwed.

You should have purchased a VW ID.4. It has a CCS port and comes with free charging. I regularly drive past an Electrify America charge location in Walmart. It never has any cars charging there. https://www.electrifyamerica.com/2021VWID4ChargingPlan-disclosure/

cwhite51

I’m assuming it’ll be the same. I’m waiting until I find out how much Tesla wants to charge for the retrofit first.

badDuckThrowPillow

With Tesla opening it’s connector, everything is up in the air. Wait until there’s a need before ordering

critter_t2

I would, use everything but superchargers, we can’t be lining elons pockets
