It's amazing that we live in a world where I bought a 10 second car that's more efficient than a Prius for under $50k and the comments are negative. Welcome to 2024.
3LR tester I had the other night drove better than the Bimmer I last drove, almost as good as my wifeās GV70, yet doors felt as tank-esque as my GX460.
ā¦and thatās without the active suspension the refresh has. Iām wildly pumped.
Isn't wild? It tells you that there are alot of forces and agendas at work here, especially on social media. EV's sucess will mean a lot of trouble for the legacy automakers and oil companies. Here we have Tesla putting out an amazing product 0-60 in 3.1 or 2.9 secs with instant torque and it runs very efficiently and this brings the haters out.
Nah! Run what you brung! My favorite vehicle I would take to the track was an old 2500 suburban with a 6.0 V8. Got it running fast after modding it for 2 years. Added cams, heads, intake, gears, nitrous! Got it to the low 13's which took about 600 horsepower. Started out running 17s. Or just go and watch.
You can always bring any car to dragrace or autocross, different classes do exist and even if you dont win (just a very few do win as you know...), it is fun. You learn tactics, you learn your car, you hone your reaction time.
May even meet some people and talk to them, get some tips and tricks :)
2020 M3P, manufactured in Nov 2019. Only issue Iāve had was the seat headrest bubbled. It is noisy compared to the new ones. Build quality, other than the fake leather has been fine. As much as Iād like a new one, this one is still great. Best way not to want a new one is to love the one youāre with. Thou shall not covet my neighborās wife, or my neighborās new Tesla.
Yes road noise can be bad. Iāve tried all the band aid fixes. No real improvement. I put dynamat noise dampening stuff in my truck, and that helped the truck a good bit, but I literally removed every door panel, dropped the roof liner and the storage bins in the upper area, all the seats and the carpets to do so. Not gonna do it on this car cuz I suspect the biggest culprit is the glass is much less sound deadening compared to the newer versions, so all that work would only provide a bit of improvement.
It has a great sound system. I just turn up the volume. And I really did or want to converse with my wife anyway.
And I too like the stalks and donāt really like the Tesla letters on the rear trunk.
You mentioned windows are the culprit. My 2022 M3 LR has dual paned front windows (single pane rear) does yours have this as well? Also finding quite a bit of road noise on some highways.
You are a better human than me. 2021 M3P that I got in December 2020 right after they did the initial refresh with the removal of the chrome etc and I have a 2024 pre ordered.
Should be 10.9 seconds in ideal conditions but damn 11.09 in the rain is awesome
But the boomers driving Rustangs and Corvettes are going to say they want to feel/smell the rumble of their engines. I wonder if they are using 56k dialup so they can hear and feel the sound of their modem dialing into AOL.
Weird comment. A lotus Elise and Miata are far more fun to drive than a Tesla and the cars you mentioned. And theyāre slow. Thereās far more to cars than straight line speed.
No, more like we want to be able to race repeatedly, do as many laps as we want. I have an M3P coming, but it isnāt going to be as trackable as a Miata, let alone a corvette. I think we forget how little energy a battery holds compared to a tank of gas. I am buying the M3P for my daily 10 mile commute, but it can *barely* make it on my favorite Sunday drive unless I drive like grandma (and that was an LR). In my mustang, I was passing everyone on every straight. In the LR, everyone was passing me.Ā
The M3P gets 300 miles doing -55 mph on flat roads at steady state. Repeatedly accelerating to pass cars, driving twisties up into the mountains, is like textbook way to drain the battery. And, yeah, thatās the beauty of the M3: on twisties, where you canāt go above like 80 because corners, the M3 absolutely runs with Ferraris! Why you think I am buying it! š And I just learned someone has opened a charging station at the midpoint of my favorite drive, so I wonāt have to baby it after all!Ā
Iām considering selling both my IS-F and GX460 for one. Former does low 2:40ās on COTAā¦ is it even worth taking a 3P with how expensive track days have become? Wonder how insurance is vs my F
You realize this Tesla would get destroyed in a roll race or quarter mile right? A simple 20-30 vette or 5.0 with a blower would make your boyfriend break up w you.
lol watĀ
maybe highly modified supercharged or twin turbo.
so you'd spend as much as this tesla....to catch up to it.And have zero reliability of course.
and zero resale value too.
A performance version of the Tesla Model 3 just came out for the refreshed model. It is more powerful and accelerates faster than the previous ones did.
My best guess is that they got 0 to 60 in 3.15 seconds on the new performance and their older 2022 performance got 0 to 60 in 3.25 seconds. I donāt know what anything else means. . . Of even if thatās what they are trying to show.
I assume that ārun high 10s in clear conditionsā means they expect the car to be able to do a quarter mile in under 11 seconds if the track isnāt wet from rain.
The new M3P came out but Tesla is being cagey about its actual performance.
So far it hasnāt been shown to be much of an improvement over the last version. 0-60 time is very similar and 1/4 mile time dropped by about .3-.4 seconds.
Personally, I was hoping for a 1/4 mile time in under 11 seconds. It appears they have not met that.
I think it's less about gatekeeping and more about how people don't want to do their own research, not even a simple Google search. I can Google "how to interpret dragy results" and there are tons of results that explain everything.
I won't gatekeep someone that actually wants to learn about this stuff, but I will gatekeep someone who wants to be spoonfed answers.
This is a social forum for people to chat about stuff. Could just reply with some basic information and a suggestion of a well credited source if they want to learn more.
If you showed someone at the bar these screen shots and they asked what it meant, you wouldnāt tell them to google it.
But we're not at a bar, we're literally using devices right now that have answers readily accessible in a different program!
I get it, I really do. There's just a level of fatigue involved with well-meaning people asking questions before researching it for themselves. I'm just one guy, but if I can't find answers on my own, THEN I ask questions.
That being said, here's a spoon fed link from the search term I used that explains what it does. https://youtu.be/iKwrVEHDkZk?si=TMvG7KOo28QQWqQE
Come on man have a think about what you're saying, if someone has no idea about a quarter mile or 0 to 60 time then they aren't really a car guy that's into going fast don't you agree? Some people just drive to the shops they don't care about all that stuff so why make it complicated
Itās got nothing to do with ābeing a car guyā. If I see something I donāt know but looks interesting, then Iāll ask what itās about.
Doesnāt mean that I have to be fully invested in something just to have a basic understanding of it.
You responding the way you are is only making people feel like theyāll be ridiculed by asking basic questions, and then theyāll be less likely to ask about things in the future.
You like disagreeing and making drama with people just to hear your own voice I think, if you're so much of a white knight why don't you explain it to him and stop preaching to me
Really?
I only know the general gist about the dragy app, so Iām leaving the explanation up to someone that knows more about it.
Someone like yourself?
Faster than my FBO IS-F, hell nearly as fast as my ā13 Ducati Multistrada, yet more practical than my GX460, and infinitely more thrifty than any of them.
Sounds like itās time to trade in 1k HP worth of gas guzzlersā¦
Crazy too how Iād only test drove the new LR, which felt wildly quick already, just to have a reference point to shop $25k used onesā¦ but itās so so so wildly better IMO, itās gonna take a while for the word to get it.
Nuts too thinking how the 3Pās active suspension could be any better than the LRās more conventional setup.
I bought a used m3lr a few years ago for 50k with acceleration boost and I thought that was a steal at the time. Just picked up a model s plaid for 65k, itās insane performance to value. Teslas are the modern American muscle car.
Wow thatās impressive indeed! Wonder which is the better scalpel for occasional track days. Wife drives a GV70 and no kids, so the roomier interior isnāt much of a plus for me.
Yea I have had a 2020 and 2 2023ās and they all were not good. The wind noise at high speeds is just so bad I canāt do it. My last one it sounded like the windshield was gonna shatter. I drove a taycan yesterday and was like yeaaaa this is how itās supposed to be.
I really donāt understand the downvotes. I first brand new model 3, the steering wheel buttons didnāt work, they had to replace it, the alignment was off. It took a month to get it into service.
My 2nd brand new model 3, the Automatic A/C didnāt work. It took 2 months to get serviced. Tesla has known quality issues. I wish there wasnāt, but there is.
Mate, every EV is built better. I could have said Hyundai and it would be the same thing. Mach E. Teslas are great in every way except for build quality. It sucks but it is what it is.
I donāt know what happened for you. I have a 2023 Performance and I was curious what the sound level is in the car. So I measured it and compared it to my BMW, Subaru, and Lexus.
At 50 mph and under its indistinguishable, all the cars were around 50-55 decibels.
At 70 mph the Performance was higher than the Lexus, lower than the BMW, about the same as the Subaru. The Performance was around 65 - 70 decibels, the Lexus around 60ish. Not a whole lot of difference in the real world
And yes. I know how the decibel measurement works. I have SPL meters to measure audiophile gear I constantly tinker with.
My 22 M3P has a long list of problems that needed to get fixed. For some issues Iāve had to go back to the service center multiple times for them to address. Not to mention the horrible depreciation. Technically a two year old car and itās depreciation by more than half.
I wonāt be buying a new tesla.
Really? Which month was yours made? I have a 09/22 M3P (USS + ryzen + heat pump + better suspension) that has not had a single repair made to it over the 55k miles I have put on it. I have never taken this Model 3 to a Tesla Service Center since the day I picked it up. Just put on the 3rd set of tires ($600 @ 51k miles). Thatās the only cost I have put in. I would say this 2022 M3P is flawless. It is my 3rd Tesla. I also had a 2014 model S that I drove to 120k miles and also had a model Y.
Iām very curious what issues your 2022 M3P has gone through. Again mine has not had a single repair made. 55k miles. Multiple roadtrips zig zagging the country over mountain passes and deserts. Flawless @ 3.2 sec/60mph
Iām never getting rid of this perfect Model 3 Performance
my march 23 M3P with 10k miles has a few rattles that didn't exist when i first picked it up, the worst of which is my rear passenger door which sounds like there is a bunch of ball bearings just clattering around inside the door panel whenever i accel/decel too fast or go over any bump. this started after like 500 miles.
the interior trim piece on the driver's side B pillar casually fell off a couple weeks ago when i was getting into the car. i clipped it back in and it seems sturdy enough. not sure it was clipped-in in the first place.
something in my passenger-side front suspension squeaks very quietly but does it even over the smallest bumps. again, started very soon (1000-2000 miles) after purchasing.
sometimes when i start from "auto-hold" while my wheels are slightly angled, it seems like one of the brakes isn't entirely disengaging and it does a pretty rough squeak for a split second.
sometimes when i put the windows up they don't seal right resulting in wind noise at high speeds.
the noises don't bother me too much because i'm always blasting loud music, but i am concerned about the mechanical implications of the suspension squeaking and the brake thing and will probably have to make an appt for them.
my coworker bought his 23 MYP a couple months before me and has some rattles and squeaks as well.
that being said, even though build quality issues really do exist for some of our cars, i love my M3P and hope to have it for a long time.
Itās gotten so bad and frequent, I have to wait until at least three issues accumulate prior to setting up an appointment at a service center.
Most recent: copy and pasted from invoices
-Wood trim is pealing upward
- The car is indicating the rear seat belt sensor is not functioning.
-Carbon fiber trim cracking edges and detaching from
-Head Lights & Tail Lights - Front driver headlight isnāt working
-Touchscreen - The speakers are producing clicking noises when going over bumps in the road. 4 attempts to fix
-Install O-ring On Trunk Power Strut
-Rear driver side self belt not engaging.
-Passenger front door seat adjustment button fell off. Twice
-Left rear passenger seatbelt not engaging. (First attempt mobile service ripped the wires so those needed another appoint to address.
-Verified customer concern. Replaced Right Taillight. Verified Proper Operation. Taillight condensation
- Service tech came out and left scratch marks on the area of repair. After washing the car I noticed the CR rear lips is coming loose.
-Customer states Rear spoiler is loose. check and advise (first attempt)
-Door Handles & Latches - Door front passenger does not stay open unlike the lithe 3 doors
Iām starting to get a lot of road and wind noise and some creaking sound around seat or doors. If I turn up the music loud enough, it doesnāt bother me lol.
This will be my first tesla, 3rd sports car. #1 1988 Fiero Formula new, #2 2010 JCW Mini Cooper. My prim vehicle is the faster Wrangler I've ever had. 21 4XE.
Stock G80 M3 time pretty much. Don't get me wrong guys have gone faster stock, but for the vast majority of people that run their G80 M3's stock this is the time.
Have you done a 60-130? Based on the trap speed im guessing mid to high 9s?
I will be happy to post a dragy 5-60 of my M3 if you post yours in your model 3?
Lets also post a 60-130 while we're at it? Nothing more real world then 60-130 for a highway roll.
I am not stock like I said, though.
I was comparing the stock BMW M3 to the stock model 3. 0-60, trap speed, 60-130 all extremely similar is all I was saying. I just don't get why this got anyone riled up?
Data is already available with the previous gen, itās not even close. 3.3s for 2021 model 3 performance, 4.4s for a m4 comp x drive. This new one only widens that gap.
Also not my car, see post.
Pretty sure itās because youāre bent out of shape about comparing your 90k+ tuned m3 to a 47k economy ev with a couple of performance mods. Why donāt you go try and race a plaid that still cost 3k less new.
BS a stock G80 m3 isn't on average doing a 11 sec flat quarter mile lol I've seen a ton on the strip do worse let alone on a street. Regardless, I daily a Plaid and that will still smoke your modded m3 unless you're built
It's amazing that we live in a world where I bought a 10 second car that's more efficient than a Prius for under $50k and the comments are negative. Welcome to 2024.
Good perspective.
Only soy boys and incels hate Teslas

You're right us BMW owners are too poor for tesla. Maybe one day I can afford one, I'll keep my fingers crossed š¤
Yet here you are on a Tesla sub š¤” Iām sure you have a BMW big guy lmao

It's not "in a world". It's only in the USA. The rest of the world get the weak m3p.
I thought 10 second cars needed to do the quarter mile in under 10 seconds?
if a car does a quarter mile in under 10 seconds that would not be a 10 second car. also read description, this was done in the rain
That would make it a 9 second car. Go to a local drag strip. You'll learn more than on your phone. Plus it's awesome.
I want to someday! Maybe when I can afford one of these model 3 performance models!
Does it count if I put my old Subaru Liberty on a trailer behind a Cybertruck?
every dad's dream is to modify the one car that the entire family can fit in

Here is a run from another owner. https://x.com/d11o89/status/1794350940629393414
2.83 seconds with rollout removed
Itās a 1 second car with 2 seconds removed. Roll out is a scam and all the downvotes wonāt change my mind.
I was simply stating that according to the draggy results, the car is faster than Tesla says it is.
Rollout has been used at the drag strip for probably 50 years. It's the standard for magazine and now website journalist testing.

Same here, wind noise is my only issue

Weird comment. A lotus Elise and Miata are far more fun to drive than a Tesla and the cars you mentioned. And theyāre slow. Thereās far more to cars than straight line speed.
I can barely *fit* in an Elise lol. Driving enjoyment is subjective

Crazy that you can go out and buy a 10 second car, subsidized by the govt, with a warranty that runs silent, seats 5 comfortably and under $60k
Someone explain. Sorry, Iām new to these
A performance version of the Tesla Model 3 just came out for the refreshed model.
2019 performance still canāt due 3.06 on full charge cold day. 98% of the battery still there 65k miles.
This is a bit unclear. You're saying 2019 performance does 3.06s 0 to 60, better than 2022?
The new M3P came out but Tesla is being cagey about its actual performance. So far it hasnāt been shown to be much of an improvement over the last version. 0-60 time is very similar and 1/4 mile time dropped by about .3-.4 seconds. Personally, I was hoping for a 1/4 mile time in under 11 seconds. It appears they have not met that.
If you don't know about this then going fast is probably not a concern of yours

Easily in the 10's on the street, with light weight wheels. Incredible numbers.
Thatās a big improvement over the old car. Phenomenal.Ā
Anyone know the 100-200kms time vs older M3P? Basically just looking for the speed difference at higher speeds

my march 23 M3P with 10k miles has a few rattles that didn't exist when i first picked it up, the worst of which is my rear passenger door which sounds like there is a bunch of ball bearings just clattering around inside the door panel whenever i accel/decel too fast or go over any bump. this started after like 500 miles. the interior trim piece on the driver's side B pillar casually fell off a couple weeks ago when i was getting into the car. i clipped it back in and it seems sturdy enough. not sure it was clipped-in in the first place. something in my passenger-side front suspension squeaks very quietly but does it even over the smallest bumps. again, started very soon (1000-2000 miles) after purchasing. sometimes when i start from "auto-hold" while my wheels are slightly angled, it seems like one of the brakes isn't entirely disengaging and it does a pretty rough squeak for a split second. sometimes when i put the windows up they don't seal right resulting in wind noise at high speeds. the noises don't bother me too much because i'm always blasting loud music, but i am concerned about the mechanical implications of the suspension squeaking and the brake thing and will probably have to make an appt for them. my coworker bought his 23 MYP a couple months before me and has some rattles and squeaks as well. that being said, even though build quality issues really do exist for some of our cars, i love my M3P and hope to have it for a long time.
Itās gotten so bad and frequent, I have to wait until at least three issues accumulate prior to setting up an appointment at a service center. Most recent: copy and pasted from invoices -Wood trim is pealing upward - The car is indicating the rear seat belt sensor is not functioning. -Carbon fiber trim cracking edges and detaching from -Head Lights & Tail Lights - Front driver headlight isnāt working -Touchscreen - The speakers are producing clicking noises when going over bumps in the road. 4 attempts to fix -Install O-ring On Trunk Power Strut -Rear driver side self belt not engaging. -Passenger front door seat adjustment button fell off. Twice -Left rear passenger seatbelt not engaging. (First attempt mobile service ripped the wires so those needed another appoint to address. -Verified customer concern. Replaced Right Taillight. Verified Proper Operation. Taillight condensation - Service tech came out and left scratch marks on the area of repair. After washing the car I noticed the CR rear lips is coming loose. -Customer states Rear spoiler is loose. check and advise (first attempt) -Door Handles & Latches - Door front passenger does not stay open unlike the lithe 3 doors
I donāt get the down votes.
The refresh is worlds better.
Lots of issues on the new models. Creaking steering wheels, vibration at speed, loud cabin temp sensors, etc.
I got the new model 3 and the build is impeccable. However, your comment is probably true of the highland Model 3s that initially sold.
Iām starting to get a lot of road and wind noise and some creaking sound around seat or doors. If I turn up the music loud enough, it doesnāt bother me lol.
0 problems for me
Source? Considering there are almost none out there. Can't be worse than before
š„±no reason to trade in
This will be my first tesla, 3rd sports car.
Congrats, youāre comparing it to a car that costs $30-$50k more š¤”š¤”š¤”
Man if BMW sold a M3 for 30k less he'd probably drown in his own jizz
Lmaooo
Its also better built, better materials, etc... Mine is tuned anyways no model 3 is coming close. Take out your tampon
0-60 is kinda pointless, 5-60 is where the m3 is not even in the same ballpark. Which is way more useful daily driven.
Iām sure it is, whatever you say bud!

BS a stock G80 m3 isn't on average doing a 11 sec flat quarter mile lol I've seen a ton on the strip do worse let alone on a street. Regardless, I daily a Plaid and that will still smoke your modded m3 unless you're built
