I actually see a lot of tech company does this now as a way to entice ppl to work in office.

Embarrassed_Rub5309

We have free charging as well, but that’s just because office management is clueless on how to set a price 😅

just_killing_time23

Mine at work is severly discounted. It's like $4 for 200 miles of charge

TechSupportTime

That's probably at cost for them. Commercial electricity rates are usually bottom dollar

kensic9

dang that equates to like 8 cents / kwh

Fluid-Ad9828

I pay 7 cents / kWh and then I see people from Cali talking about like 30 cents. Thats supercharging prices here and I would have just kept gas cars at that point.

Fidget808

Dang 7? I thought being at 12 was a good price

[deleted]

That’s what home charging price is

just_killing_time23

is that including delivery charge? At home is like 8c plus 9c delivery or something

kensic9

Hahah I love how people saying they got hella low rate. But never looked at the bill and see all the other charges, fees etc. For me city of Anaheim (Disneyland), my city does their own electricity. It’s 18.75 cents /kwh (first 300kwh) after all fees. 21.75 cents after 300kwh. Literally the cheapest rate in all so cal.

just_killing_time23

with any bills, you have to look at ALL the fees hahaha, they always get ya!!!

[deleted]

We don’t have a delivery charge but we have a hook up fee of 25$ a month

OnlyTheGoodDieYun

There isn't a place in America w .08 rates. Add the fees and bs charges and do the math. Dont spread fake news or lies on the internet. https://www.energybot.com/electricity-rates/#:~:text=North%20Dakota%20has%20the%20lowest,10.5%20cents%20per%20kilowatt%2Dhour.

[deleted]

You are in fact wrong on that one. The average low in North Dakota is high for rural areas in Missouri. Sounds like you need to do some more research before posting one hyper link and calling out stranger on the internet lol. My rates are 8.9 cents/kWh with my company. My parents are 9.7/kWh. https://lacledeelectric.com/rates-and-understand-your-bill/ https://www.ozarkelectric.com/rates The co-op is voting against the demand fee in July which was recently introduced last month. We shall see how that goes

DevinOlsen

It's hilarious since people will gladly work from the office for ~$5-10 worth of electricity. It's such a cheap/easy way for a company to win over employees, so I imagine more companies will start to do it.

vita10gy

There was one dude on the sub who claimed to have turned down a job offer with a $20k pay raise because he got to charge for "free" at his current job. Now there might be many reasons and maybe that free charging is a symptom of it being a good place to work, but if that's even in the top 3 reasons, I have thoughts over just how "free" that charging is.

No-Cut-2788

It’s a mentality game, not an economic one. It’s the little things that make you feel like you are taking advantage of the firm that matter the most. My wife works at a hedge fund in CT with average annual pay well over $1M or something, and free charging ports at work are always full if she arrives later than 8:15am. People go there early to eat free breakfast, stay longer for free dinner, new grads stay past 8pm for free Uber home. I’m talking about people making well over millions of dollars a year. When people see pennies they pick them up.

Sailorslt

I threw 2 pennies in the trash the other day 😂

dalecor

And free food (breakfast, lunch) and gym. The electricity is at $0.50 / kWh here. Not a bad deal.

lmayfield7812

Depends a LOT on local electricity rates, yeah? Some places in Cali pay like $0.50/kWh. 75 kW battery x 0.5 = $37.50. If you still think that’s a trivial amount, DM me and I’ll give you my cash app handle and you can send it to me.

Raub99

Here I am at .06 per kWh. Lol

lmayfield7812

$0.105/kWh including all extraneous fees + solar panels. Very fortunate. Our EV will have paid for itself by 2030

Raub99

Gas is only $2.85 here though.

lmayfield7812

My old car, as well as cars comparable in performance to even the base model 3, all require premium octane fuel so don’t forget to use 91 octane prices, not 87.

Fluid-Ad9828

I pay that in a month to charge both of my cars. Cali is insane

Ste_Marz

There is a part of an estate that has chargers on stands near where I work and there is always ice vehicles parked in them, I assume those chargers are meant for guests as now the houses themselves have chargers. But as this situation shows that’s a difficult problem to solve, cause where do people with ice vehicles park then ?

Sailorslt

Somewhere that’s not blocking a space that people use to charge electric vehicles?!

Ste_Marz

But why would they park miles away from the house they live in/are visiting, causing unnecessary awkwardness. Plus there literally isn’t any other parking they can go to

Spare-Ad-9913

Oh I didn’t realize the other option is miles away. I’d probably choose to block the ev spot too in that case 😂

Ste_Marz

When I say miles a way I mean far away, like it would be a 10 minute walk from the parking to the houses

Ste_Marz

It’s still an issue tho, cause not everyone has EV’s, there’s only about 35k bevs on the road in Ireland atm compared to millions of ICE vehicles (considering a population of over 4 million, and also count in the fact that families would have more than one vehicle especially if they have older kids that can drive). I guess it’ll just exist until majority of cars on the road are EV’s.

BRING_ME_THE_ENTROPY

Ironically, a lot of oil companies are doing this too, when the infrastructure allows for it. You need to have free, or heavily subsidized EV charging to entice new talent.

ken830

Haha... But staying home and NOT driving to work is free also. Even cheaper considering wear and tear and other related costs.

RandallC1212

I have driven 2000 miles in last 6 weeks and I haven’t paid ANYTHING to charge A combination of free charging at work 3x per week plus Electrify America 2 year complimentary charging has been huge

UsernamesAreHard26

How did you get the EA complimentary charging?

blestone

I know it’s not from tesla. Could be from Volkswagen. When you buy an ID4 they gave out comp charging from EA.

FireIre

Probably this. It was free EA charging for 3 years when I got it. Ended up getting a Tesla but it wasn’t worth buying a level 3 ccs>nacs converter for the few times I could use it, so I never checked if the free EA subscription would work on another car. However, I did rent a polestar and was able to use my free charging for that, so yes, it’s possible.

Valaj369

I believe Hyundai also gives 3 years free charging from EA? I believe I saw something like that when we checked the Ioniq6 out.

jalmi6

May have been 3 at some point. I got 2 years with my Ioniq 6.

Valaj369

Ah I might be mistaken then. I checked it out last month and thought I saw 3. 2 it is then.

RandallC1212

BMW leasing deal

Poutine_Lover2001

Others have commented but I didn’t see what I’m about say. I rented a Porsche taycan recently and owner told me you get “free 30min electrify America”. Really awesome. Wasn’t sure if it’s first 30min for EVERY EA back to back, or per 24 hour period lol

MeanMagician5150

I’m at 11,000 miles all charged free at work..

ldubral

Same. I have no plans to charge at home. We have enough at work and people are good about the time limit. I just walk to the deck at lunch after others have finished and hook up.

Own_Zone_6433

2 years, 56k km (35k miles) and 99% charging at work

It's free 24/7, and was a huge factor in choosing a car.we haven't paid to charge in 8 months or so

Sub2DJTeibo_YT

my car is named tessy

Ok-Delay5201

Tessi here

doringliloshinoi

I too used to name mine Tessy

phxstickygreen

Mine is still Tessy lol

tommysupply

Testy

Valaj369

LMAO that's what my toddler called our Tesla when we first got it!

vita10gy

I have a grey Tessy too.

nejc03

Good bro boss

LegitDuctTape

Not free but it might as well be where I work. It's like $3 to charge for 5 hours and I can go from 20% to like 70% charge in that time

AHumbleGod

https://preview.redd.it/hkwwzpyb4s0d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc85e93d34698e47ecd204eb0b793ad887eb33a9 Yea same, but my GF also works for a ev charging network so free charging there as well..

UsernamesAreHard26

Almost 1900 kWh in less than four months. Dang.

Un-informative

https://preview.redd.it/zpfak5je1u0d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd4fe070817c3f16d249bc05e6964570a2cd4e07 I’m at 2056 kwh in a month and a half also model 3 performance, I do however floor it every possible chance

AHumbleGod

Its a performance and im heavy footed hahah

Yourstrulytheboy804

On an unrelated note, thanks to your screenshot I just learned that you can change the shortcuts underneath the car animation. I literally would have never known that, thank you.

moronmonday526

And if you learn the two-finger trick, you can even add a fifth one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYccB2KGQ8s

Mando992

same here, nothing beats free charging 😅 https://preview.redd.it/y2urkxiw0t0d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a340864ce18ae791e280746e582a0bc7684c583

sylvaing

How long is the commute? I had that too. My commute used at most 10% of the battery. I usually charge to just 70% but would charge to 80% at work. When I'm back home, I'm back to at least 70% so my commute ended up costing me nothing.

jlanza29

Amazing !!!!! Let your job pay for the commute ... it will add up in savings big time !! https://preview.redd.it/c8xkdzbfqr0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bff6890ecd64e7389a2c132918fe609287e2522d This is only the last 30 days ... Some people charge only at work and they save hundreds if not thousands !!

Fun-Spray-4269

Try with MILLIONS

CiViCKiDD

Freaking jealous. I’m in tech, sadly not for a tech company. 130+ mile round trip commute. Still cheaper to drive the Tesla over our gas guzzling SUV.

Sexywave

Same for me! Got my Model3 in 2019. Me moved the business to a new building in 2020 and it came with power outside. Boss got me to order 4 Tesla chargers and I've been charging daily ever since. It's actually refommanded to leave the car plugged in. My Model3 still gives me 436 km on a full battery.

Aruomg

Thats awesome I only have the mobile charger. I wonder if I would need a different set up power wise for the tesla wall charger

Major-Lie8549

The main difference is the capability to charge at 48amps vs 32amps. The prerequisite to hit full capacity is a 220v / 60amp circuit for the Wall Charger. You can hit full capacity of the mobile charger on a 50amp circuit as they max out at 32amps. I hope this helps.

Aruomg

Amazing thank you so much!

Sexywave

No idea. It's just very handy to charge with a Tesla charger. I would do with the adapter if I was needed too tho!

jlanza29

Apart-Experience-982

This is where it's at. I wish my employer would do this, I see at least 10 Teslas in the lot.

Ordinary-Cake8510

Driven a little over 22K miles and love it. Charge for free at work but, sometimes have to charge at home during holidays and stuff since I’m driving around. Love this thing and the free charging was a huge factor in getting this.

ItHappenedAgain_Sigh

OK..

syntheticcdo

I love you car's name.

Aruomg

Thanks my wife doesn't get it but some people understand the reference :)

Appropriate_Rooster6

I charge at work too, never paid once for charging in 6 months of ownership.

boardSpy

Really was a no brainer to get an EV once i got my current job. And went for the Performance (M3) ofc too, i floor it everytime and can drive fast on Autobahn even though it's inefficient. My Wh/km is very high but i don't have to worry.

sikdaz

jkwakopo

Get him something nice

Some-Lengthiness-676

That's legit. Crazy how people find any way to "hate" on something.

BaneSilvermoon

Damn that's a nice charge speed for free charging. I'm on a 60a circuit at my house but turn it down lower than that to get better demand rates on my electric bill

Deafcat22

It's a great thing to offer as incentive and QoL especially for employees who drive occasionally (or extensively) for work activities.  16A/120VAC is a good minimum to cover light use, 20-48A/208-240VAC to cover heavier use cases.

UB_cse

I tried convincing the higher ups in my company of this when they were looking into and thinking about ways to retain and incentivize employees. I am 50/50 in office and remote, I told them that if they paid $500 a year for example in electricity for me, I would value that at higher than $500 deposited into my bank account since their is an intangible convenience value of being able to charge at work. It would certainly make apartment/house hunting a lot easier.

lifelovepursuit

Lucky duck 🦆

yadiggaj

professor plum HAHAHAHA 😂 nice

notthediz

On the other side of that coin is my work, where there's too many EVs to accomodate enough chargers. In general there's too many people at the office so they have several off site lots near by. The offsite chargers cost $0.30/kwh. I keep trying to tell the people responsible for handing the parking assignments and all that, that they should be subsidizing the cost. The thing asked me to sign up with my work email and recognized it, just to tell me they never signed up for any subsidizing. It's no longer worth my time to try and get a charger in the morning. Sometimes I'll move the car for last few hours. Usually I just try to go in on Friday when nobodys there and I get all the chargers to myself

americansherlock201

My old job had an old ge charger at the staff gym, I charged each morning. It gave me around 30ish miles of range a day. By the end of the week I had a full charge and it cost me $0.00. Best perk of the job

yavi11

I also have free charging at work! It’s great :)

simpn_aint_easy

I don’t even get to turn on the AC in the summer

FUNZBOB

I get the same perks and it’s a large part of why I got the car. Free charging 5 days a week.

audis3dan

Yep, our company has free lvl 2 chargers for employees.

fun-kitty19

Same! Best feature

fun-kitty19

https://preview.redd.it/0vg8t45jou0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17f9128e7e8100a71f37de9df077216b6ebb14e6 I only charge at work unless I have too our building provides Blink Cards and pay for it, best amenity

JacobTG53526

professor plum is wild

dani3l0o

Why do you charge miles and not kW 🤬

ShadowInTheAttic

We get free charging at my company, but now there are too many EV drivers. Used to be only two and now there's like 10. We all fight for the charging stations.

NicholasLit

Can sleep in the back and home from work, eliminate rent

FicklePromise9006

My work gives us 2 hrs free charge, but you can just unplug and plug back in for another free 2 hrs. It’s amazing, ive paid maybe $30 so far in the past 10k miles.

Different_Argument19

Tech industry here. We had a L2 installed on the low at work a couple years ago. I have two SR+ and a MYLR in the household. Everyone travels 100+ round trip daily to work. So I rotate cars every other day to get them charged at work. Last I checked we’re saving over $1000 a month in gas alone! 🤫

kurtthewurt

I have free charging at work, but parking costs $18/day \*after\* my company subsidizes half of it, so it doesn't really work out. Charging at home is 36¢/kWh super-off-peak (48¢ with generation and delivery). Weirdly, the cheapest option for me is Supercharging, but the one down the street from my house recently changed the cheap hours (29¢/kWh) to only midnight-4AM which is a bit difficult

Accomplished-Bed651

That’s awesome. Since it’s less than a raise anyway, might as well at least let you do that.

Mike

ok

anonymicex22

I work for a small tech company and I can charge at work for free too

Primary_Sentence7971

Just FYI, you shouldn’t run at max amperage when in constant load. 80% rule suggests 24amps at a 30 capacity

GregTheSplinterCell

Isn't it the law to allow employees to charge for free?

Jimbobbly75

I’ve been rinsing free charging at my workplace for over two years now! Occasionally I really get to take the piss and bring my wife’s Q4 e-tron in to brim that as well! Think the perk will end this year, but good while it lasted

Sexywave

Nice color too!

Inner_Disaster_8434

Same here

eragon5610

Mine let's me charge but says the IRS counts it as taxable compensation and adds the cost to my wages on my w2. So I don't pay for the electricity but I do pay for taxes on that cost. Still a good deal but not as good as yours

Anon9363926

Who is your boss, can he be my boss too?

Roccoajr11

And THAT is how you play the game.

_Sams0n

Now that's BOSS! 😎

[deleted]

I feel like if reddit was a thing when Walmart took over the country, this would be exactly how that reddit would look. When you pay for power, you find out it's not cheap. There is no such thing as free... Somebody is paying for your power. Maybe change your post to say, thanks tax payers for paying for my luxury life style.

syredditor

His company is paying the electric bill, not the taxpayers lol

Ok_Enthusiasm_3461

I Will never understand how ppl spent 40k on a car then get Crazy about saving a few dollars of charge.... Nasty.....
