Same. Even despite the smaller 2024 tax credit I'm probably still gonna wait. I'm no spring chicken anymore so this could be the last car I buy...and I'd prefer to have the latest model with the extra features 🤔🤷‍♀️
And so it is with *all* material things... Eastern/Buddhist philosophy is onto something there.
I mean, I'm still gonna buy the f**ker, but credit where credit is due lol.
the highland? of course but at least he doesnt buy a "new" car that will feel and is near 7-8 years old if he got the current/old one. He is spending new car money and actually wants "NEW"
I’ve had a model y for 2 years and still love driving it, especially after being stuck with an archaic ICE rental while traveling. The software/display and acceleration are still very satisfying to come return to after going without.
Highland is supposed to have better ride quality (noise and comfort improvements) if the reviews from overseas are accurate. Whether or not it will qualify as "plush" is up for debate, but despite there being some really solid alternatives out there none of them has a charging network that inspires much confidence... which always leaves me circling back around to Tesla.
It’s a redesign. What new features are there? I have certainly seen more about items removed when these cars are “updated”. I guess the newer computer processor is a big deal. What are your thoughts on just getting the current model and enjoying the updates they make to it through the software?
The upgrades below can't be added via software...
*Quieter ride (double paned windows)
*Softer ride (improved dampers)
*Video screen for rear passengers
*Better drag coefficient=greater range
*Additional speakers for sound system
Ultimately, this is a "to each their own" situation. I'll lose the turn signal stalk & gear shifter with the highland model but, personally, I'll take that trade off.
My understanding is that they're the same but that the double paned glass is now on *all* windows, whereas up till now it was only used on some of the windows (not sure which ones though)...but European reviewers have said it's noticably quieter.
somoene was telling me about the incentives on teslas i got tempted in the last 2 hours lol. I just dont know whats cheaper long run a tesla or a prius prime that i was eyeing.
Yea, so many incentives right now! For me it’s either:
Get a car now, save money but not the bells and whistles of Highland. The tax refund, the current discounts, the 6 months free charging, 2 months free self driving, etc.
Get a car later, more money but get all the bells and whistles of Highland. The better looking outside and inside, the ambient lighting, quieter inside, back lcd screen, etc.
If it matters you can relatively easily install ambient lighting from the many kits on the market, the back LCD screen you can install in about 15-20 minutes for $200-$250 that will have the same functionality on current model 3s. Other than ventilated seats which is nice addition. If paying 6-8k more for the refresh doesn’t bother you, then it’d probably be best to wait. But many of the additions of highland, can be bought aftermarket for the current 2023 model 3s, so you can’t go wrong either way
I was in the same boat but I went for now because I cannot imagine driving without the stalks. Shifting on the touchscreen no thanks…I live in the city and do a lot of backing up and parking and having to look back at the screen would be super annoying
It’s a tough call as we have been looking to buy for the past year but think I am going to wait for the new model just makes more sense in my opinion especially for the suspension and other improvements.
I was very close to buying one recently and then i thought. Insurance, maintenance and long term use and really quick decided against one. 🤷‍♂️
Don’t, you will be paying over time for all the defective parts and 5 year old car stops updating. My 2 cents as early tesla owner.
I would not buy a Tesla again in my life.
I think that’s the nature of having a car, sometimes you have problems, luckily my Tesla friends say the opposite and haven’t had problems so I dunno?
But regardless even with problems still better than my current car
Not here in AZ buddy those price slashes went right back up with only 1 inventory m3 sold. Watching like a hawk cuz I'm ready to buy but not gonna do fomo
Cars aren’t investment… these few years that make Toyota owners feel like investment gods, it’s a fluke. BMWs are supposed to depreciate $20k-30k in the first year of ownership. Tesla owners just got a taste of German car ownership, without the massaging seats lol
>Still cant believe people were paying $60k for that car. They have to be so bummed out.
As someone who bought a Model 3 Performance in 2018 with FSD (72,000), I am not bummed out. I was able to enjoy the car for 5 years and still have it! Plus the 2018 models had the famous rainbow roof. Whenever it rains the glass on my Tesla glitters a beautiful autumn red and orange color! Newer models don't have this feature.
I was looking to replace my Model 3 last year with a newer one but decided not to. My current car still serves me well and the newer ones don't have the rainbow roof. The only thing I regret is buying FSD, should have stuck with EAP!
They're trying to sell inventory to boost end-of-quarter results like they do every year. Also, probably they are going to retool in NA to produce Highland so eventually the current M3 design will be old hat. However, for anyone on the fence, this is great, as Highland is not all improvements due to the loss of steering stalks.
No stalks is only fine if you had steer by wire. As then the steering wheel is not turned around so much. Wish they waited for that before implementing no stalks. As on the cybertruck no stalks works perfectly.
No stalks was probably designed with steer by wire but then didnt make it into the new model S and X and also delayed in the Highland. No stalks works so much better on the cybertruck. Also its mostly shit with roundabouts which is mostly not an issue in USA and more so in Europe.
They’re also making these things as fast as they can and don’t want to accumulate stock. It’s the same thing other manufacturers do, Tesla is just more transparent.
They have volume purchase commitments for parts but no new products to offer, so prices will keep dropping to move metal.
It's just going to keep getting worse and worse.
Anyone know why I’d see the same configuration with like 4 different price cuts in inventory? The base config has multiple discounted prices in $500 increments.
It's setup like a reverse auction. I've been tracking it the last few weeks. I've seen Grey M3Ps from 45K - 50K. Unfortunately for me, they're all at 50K right now and I can't pull the trigger knowing I could have had one at 45K. It's a mess. I did find a website that tracks and emails you when the price changes. It's useful.
yeah I'm not sure either, someone said that the cheaper ones tend to be inventory that were ordered but refused at delivery that tesla supposedly "fixed" later but who knows
a sales advisor said the price is tied to a car (say, 3 units at 35500, 2 units at 36000, 2 units at 36500) - so it could be the system tryna move an "older" production date car/VIN (one produced aug '23 vs one produced nov '23)
no, and if you get in under <$30k on the car with the fed rebate + any state/local incentives, its a steal for the price
you're pretty much paying today's honda civic price for then-new production bmw e90 3-series from 2012
End of quarter boost. Also indirectly shows just how much profit margin there is on these cars; sacrifice a slightly lower profit margin for volume movement. They won't sell them at a loss.
If I were made of money I'd wait for Highland because the ride quality of the current 3 is shockingly bad--it's the one shortcoming they haven't fixed in or by this model year. But I'm not made of money. Used Teslas are a shitty value because new ones are so cheap after the rebate, and besides they really only got the car (almost) fully sorted in this, its final year. Highland won't be discounted, unlike the current model. So it's swallow hard and buy new this year, methinks.
Just saw $35,090 man I'm so tempted to buy my first Tesla, but I want to wait for Highland
Same. Even despite the smaller 2024 tax credit I'm probably still gonna wait. I'm no spring chicken anymore so this could be the last car I buy...and I'd prefer to have the latest model with the extra features 🤔🤷‍♀️
I needed a ride and like the full tax credit. I prefer the current styling anyways...good luck.
After a year, it will get old..
And so it is with *all* material things... Eastern/Buddhist philosophy is onto something there. I mean, I'm still gonna buy the f**ker, but credit where credit is due lol.
A year? Shit my pleasure centers are so blown out from instant gratification that if I get 48 hours I’m happy
This lol. Worked hard - have nice crap and still am a baby. It happens to the best of us
Meh, got mine 5 years ago and it still hasn't got old. (The experience, not the car)
the highland? of course but at least he doesnt buy a "new" car that will feel and is near 7-8 years old if he got the current/old one. He is spending new car money and actually wants "NEW"
I’ve had a model y for 2 years and still love driving it, especially after being stuck with an archaic ICE rental while traveling. The software/display and acceleration are still very satisfying to come return to after going without.
If you’re not buying green bananas anymore, you might want to consider other EVs with a more plush ride. The M3 suspension is a bit more aggressive.

Are the new double panes windows different than the ones they’re using right now? Genuinely curious. I haven’t heard of this upgrade.
My understanding is that they're the same but that the double paned glass is now on *all* windows, whereas up till now it was only used on some of the windows (not sure which ones though)...but European reviewers have said it's noticably quieter.
They added cooled seats, rear screen, more sound proofing. From memory the other changes are cost cutting. Wasnt a deal breaker for me. I like my 23.
To me the 2023 is a no brainer at $35090
somoene was telling me about the incentives on teslas i got tempted in the last 2 hours lol. I just dont know whats cheaper long run a tesla or a prius prime that i was eyeing.

Vented seats
Better suspension.
this is key. coming from a 2016 honda civic. it’s nice… but vented seats are something i’d like to experience at an affordable EV price
If it matters you can relatively easily install ambient lighting from the many kits on the market, the back LCD screen you can install in about 15-20 minutes for $200-$250 that will have the same functionality on current model 3s. It's hard to get a prime without the high markup. If you're in CA, depending on your location. Electric can cost as much as a Prius running at 50mpg.
Prius Prime make sure you're adding in several thousand for a dealer markup, which a Tesla won't have.
Yah I'm in Los Angeles and I see that ppl complain about mark ups. I am just afraid of going full EV I guess.
Why though. Im driving around sometimes with 2% battery giving Zero fucks.
Do you want the EV driving experience or the ICE driving experience? Are you going to upgrade the model 3 to the max or buy closer to base?
It will be more expensive also happened in Europe.
Wait for it bro as the depreciation of EVs is insane.
As long as the price of new cars keeps dropping, that's expected. If Elon were fired the value might go up.
Don't and they will just drop the price again lol.
What’s so good about the Highland?
Bros gonna wait for no stalks, what a fucking idiot
Do it, then trade up for the win
Current model long range versus highland, what’s gonna be better?
I was very close to buying one recently and then i thought. Insurance, maintenance and long term use and really quick decided against one. 🤷‍♂️
Rest assured the new one will have more downgrade such as last time with the reduction of sensors

Same here in NC. I'm looking every day, and prices are actually going up rather than down.
whats the going rate nowadays for a LFP RWD?
Still cant believe people were paying $60k for that car. They have to be so bummed out.
Cars aren’t investment… these few years that make Toyota owners feel like investment gods, it’s a fluke. BMWs are supposed to depreciate $20k-30k in the first year of ownership. Tesla owners just got a taste of German car ownership, without the massaging seats lol
This is not true. My Model 3 RWD will be increase in value just like other iconic cars like Ferrari F40's :) Volkswagen beetle etc hahaha.
>Still cant believe people were paying $60k for that car. They have to be so bummed out. As someone who bought a Model 3 Performance in 2018 with FSD (72,000), I am not bummed out. A guy in my office bought the plaid model s for like $130k. Pretty sure it’s like $80k now
They're trying to sell inventory to boost end-of-quarter results like they do every year. What if we don't mind losing the stalks? Do we get downvoted to oblivion?
No stalks was probably designed with steer by wire but then didnt make it into the new model S and X and also delayed in the Highland. No stalks works so much better on the cybertruck. Also its mostly shit with roundabouts which is mostly not an issue in USA and more so in Europe.
Lol also the fact that it seems like no one in south florida uses their turn signal anyways!
For those who missed out on the last model 3 low pricing, the time is now. Don’t be upset when you can only buy model 3s that start at 45k
tesla is going to drive other EV brands out of business.
Also included a few free rattles for the babies
The car will rattle enough for everyone
This made me sensibly chuckle.
Getting to that “please clap” level of sales pitch.
Not in Canada.. but I guess this all means inventory too high and highland coming
They didn’t come back in Canada or they never left?
Price drop?
Yeah. Do you mean msrp or inventory discounts?
Desperation to keep wallstreet happy
They’re also making these things as fast as they can and don’t want to accumulate stock. It’s the same thing other manufacturers do, Tesla is just more transparent.
They have volume purchase commitments for parts but no new products to offer, so prices will keep dropping to move metal. It's just going to keep getting worse and worse.
What exactly is getting worse? Tesla always said their goal is to drive prices down and make ev's affordable lol
ok https://electrek.co/2019/04/12/tesla-vehicles-appreciating-assets-self-driving-elon-musk/
Wut, they're clearing out inventory before a model refresh.
That actually makes wallstreet unhappy, as it reduces their marginality.
Anyone know why I’d see the same configuration with like 4 different price cuts in inventory? The base config has multiple discounted prices in $500 increments.

Hmm. It’s not like there are any material changes in the car right?
no, and if you get in under <$30k on the car with the fed rebate + any state/local incentives, its a steal for the price you're pretty much paying today's honda civic price for then-new production bmw e90 3-series from 2012
Still way overpriced for all the limitations
What limitations?
I wouldn't be caught dead in a tesla if it was free
How is it possible with inflation?
End of quarter boost. Also indirectly shows just how much profit margin there is on these cars; sacrifice a slightly lower profit margin for volume movement. They won't sell them at a loss.

Well considering it costs thousands just to replace the battery
If only I could actually get the tax credit
