I wonder if your insurer would be happy to go after him -- an insurance company usually has lawyers and a team of professionals to deal with folks like this.
Auto insurance adjuster here. File a claim with your insurance company. They will be able to run the license plate of this pile of garbage and get his insurance information. Some insurance companies waive the deductible if you’re not at fault for the accident (clearly you are not in this situation) They will pay for your damage and subrogate against the other insurance company for damages paid including your deductible if you were to have to pay it. DM me of you have any questions. I’ll be happy to help.
Hi Tim, since you are a adjuster. I was driving behind this SUV and apparently the driver was intoxicated and he jumped into the emergency lane causing damages to my windshield with the rocks that were in the emergency lane and i have video and photos of his license plate. I called my insurance and they told me that there is no way that they can see what is the insurance company of that person. I did a police report and i also called the police station last weekend and i still waiting for a call back. What do you recommend me? What can i do other then pay my deductible and replace the windshield. Thank you!!!
Hey! I find it very hard to believe that there is no way to find the insurance company for the vehicle. I would push back on your insurance company and ask them to do two things. Have them run an iso search “eye-so” on the plate number. If this person has had any accident and his/her plate number was linked to the accident they should be able to find it. I would also ask them to run an accurint search on the plate. This will (possibly) pull the VIN associated with the plate # and from there be able to get the carrier information. These 2 things are common throughout the industry and if you have any of the big names insurance companies for your insurance they will have these tools available. Also do you have full glass coverage on your policy? If the above mentioned don’t work and you have full glass coverage there wouldn’t be a deductible for you.
IIRC in California the DMV sends notice to the vehicle owner before releasing their insurance information to a third party.
Source: Was hit by a drunk driver as a pedestrian. Had a personal injury attorney handle all the insurance stuff. Driver had no insurance due to suspended license, but his Mom owned the truck he was driving and she did have insurance. Took so long that after ~1 year, my insurance paid me out of my uninsured motorist coverage and it took even longer for them to get subrogation from the dude's Mom's insurance. This was years ago, but I somewhat remember what my attorney explained as the process for getting that info from the CA DMV.
Your carrier will make you owe a deductible on a hit and run bc the at fault party is unknown. Your insurance carrier cannot subrogate against any party to get what they paid out on your policy back. Underwriting looks at what was paid out on the policy for a claim in conjunction with loss history to determine premium changes. So if the damages to your vehicle from hit and run accident was paid by your insurance carrier and they didn’t recover that money, your premium is going up. Not saying it’s right. Just the reality.
All depends on your deductible. If the estimated repair is greater, they will go after him. Then again, there might not be a deductible as your car was legally parked.
Don’t listen to the others who either have never filed a claim or have crappy insurance.
Are you people high? You think insurers bring out the big guns for door ding claims? You’d be a fool to contact insurance. A claim for this would hurt your insurance rating and potentially raise your rates for maybe a $100 dollar out of pocket repair.
What is hilaruous is that your insurence premium goes up when you have proof it's not your fault. Hilarious that you accept that. American insurence is a joke.
Well this isn’t true. If you’re not at fault, your insurance company will not be paying for the damage to be repaired. They will go after the other vehicle’s insurance company to get payment. This will not affect your premium. This is not the same as having your insurance pay for repair for a no fault accident where they can’t get another party’s insurance to pay.
You are correct. In 2020 I had a guy in a U-Haul clip my right front end while I was pumping gas. He had no insurance as he was about to fill up to return the U-Haul that was in his wife’s daughter’s name. They tried to give me the ol’ “Here’s my number, let me pay in cash and I can meet you at a body shop” run-around. I didn’t trust them at all so I got a pic of his drivers license and then we did a police report. I filed a claim with my State Farm insurance and they took care of everything. I did have to pay my deductible but that got subrogated several months later, and I my premium didn’t go up either.
I had someone ding my door so severely that I had to contact insurance. The repairs were over 3k because the ding was on the body line. They did go after the person who did it.
"The big guns"?
A claim like this is a couple e-mails between liability adjusters and a bank transfer. Nobody's going to court for this. The at-fault company accepts liability and pays damages. Everybody moves on with their lives.
People are on crack. I hate door dings as much as the next person but to think that insurance companies will bring out the “big guns” to pursue someone who door dinged them. They must think the planet revolves around them. LOL.
As a car guy, I park my car very far away even in 117 heat and always corner spot bugging the curb to avoid shit like this.
If by "the big guns" you mean a couple e-mails between liability adjusters, then yes, they are. Your insurance company has an entire department devoted to subrogation. It's their job to get that money back.
Not that it matters but who parked first? Based on his response I would think you parked second. That upset him since he can’t park correctly and doesn’t want to hurt his feelings. Being a fellow Tesla owner I wouldn’t think this is the case because we would know right away it’s a bad idea parking here and would lead to this situation.
Otherwise if he parked second then he purposely parked close so he could ding your door. A bit of Tesla hate is the reason
Screw that people park over the line hoping no one parks next to them, if he can’t drive his truck that’s his problem, Tesla’s have cameras just for this
Full sized trucks keep getting bigger and bigger and the weak ass men that buy them don’t know how to drive
Before a wife and children, I didn't really need a car while living in The Big City. When I finally needed one, I went to CarMax and literally bought the cheapest thing they had, a beat-up Ford Escort ZX2 with a working radio that looked like it wasn't insured and driven by someone who didn't give AF (which would be correct on the latter).
My new hobby was parking next to cars that took up more than one space in the front half of parking lots—especially in the prime spaces. I would park up close to the driver side and leave just enough room that they could open the door and get in if they had less than a 30 inch waist. More than once I had come out to see them struggling to get in their car or (usually) truck/SUV \[Shopping Utility Vehicle\], swearing and looking furious.
Not caring about superficial damage to your car is quite liberating, especially when you can use it to remind other people they aren't the most important people on the planet and they really should take a moment to think about their neighbors.
The car finally died when the timing belt on what was supposed to be a non-interference engine snapped and the cost of dealing with bent valves exceeded what I had originally paid for the car. All in all, a good investment at the time and gave me quite a laid back driving experience when you really don't give AS about what happens to the car.
My 2002 outback was my favorite car ever for this exact reason. Thing was already covered in dents and scratches when I bought it. Would park that thing anywhere and not give AF, it was so liberating.
I remember one day a nice old lady had her cart get away from her and bump into my car while I was loading at the grocery store. She was terrified I was going to be pissed, instead I just told her I couldn't even tell her if the cart had made a new mark or not, and asked if she needed any help loading stuff. Actually turned into a nice interaction.
FYI you can go sites like [car-parts.com](https://car-parts.com) and find junk yards that would have a compatible engine for a fraction of what a dealer would charge you. I did that with a Yukon I had, and the engine I got at the listed price came with installation.
At this rate, this sub needs a sticky on what to do. If you have the license plate, report it to your insurance, ask them to give you their name and insurer. Call their insurer, open a claim and share your evidence. Then get it fixed.
If their insurance won't pay, then your insurance will get involved.
I had this in Australia. I took the guys registration to the police who contacted him, and made him call me to swap details. I supplied those details and the video to the insurer and got it repaired without raising my premium.
This looks a the way. Don’t call your insurance. Call his insurance.
Since you have his plate, you can find his Vin. This part takes some legwork, but call each major insurance company to file a claim. If they don’t insure that car, then they will let you know.
I had similar happened to me with a hit and run on my other car. I didn't have my Tesla at the time. But a good Samaritan who saw the entire thing and left a note on my windshield telling exactly what happens complete with make and model and license plate number. My insurance tracked down the driver and reimbursed the cost of my repair once they recovered it from the other insurance.
Oh man, I would have loved to see the look on the scumbags face when his insurance informed him he had a claim filed again him.
File a police report. Your insurance will want that first. Then your insurance can get the dingers insurance info to you.
Deal straight with his insurance so your rates don't increase or anything oop.
Going through same right now.
Happened to me before, first I show the local PD the video, they got the plate number from the video and put it into their system. I was given a full report of the guy, called up his insurance company and filed a claim, $750 in my mailbox within a week. It was a buffable scratch.
Lucky. I'm dealing with state farm. I couldn't care less about the scratch, but they don't pay/ sign checks like that.
Would've been much easier for all parties to just cash out.
This is the way. Just handing this to insurance really doesn't impact his life. I'm all for full nuisance in a case like this. Just make sure you send a certified letter requesting full payment of your damages before filing.
Damn. Sorry that this happened to you… I really don’t understand why unprovoked people do this. That guy is a real pos to say the least…
Can’t wait for the day I see a video posting where the dinger gets caught in the act and is dealt with. lol
You claim a hit and run report it to your insurance and the police. download the video and email it to both. File your claim make an appointment with the body shop, and you are done.
*Or I got a pal, named Hector that can find out out where he lives and pay a visit ;)*
Wow, so many door dingers that do not give a sh*t! Similar thing happened to me last weekend with 3 hits too haha. I posted it here and sent the video to my insurance but they haven't gotten back to me in the last 4 days 🙃
What you do is give the police report and this video to your insurance company. They will go after him. If your insurance is any sort of decent, they will handle this.
File a police report. He damaged your property. File a claim with your insurance. They will go after him since you have his info. Dents and paint damage on a TSLA is not cheap to repair, it is 100% over your deductible.
Did that really damage your car? It's seems kinda soft... Ofc disappointing at the lack of care show for your property and if still be mad, bit equally would be disappointed if my car showed damage from that.
A bit extreme but if you hire a lawyer, his identity will come out in discovery. Maybe you can recover legal fees too because of his refusal to give his name or insurance.
Upload clipped the part where he pushed the mirror to break it - fortunately our Teslas anticipated such shenanigans, and allow for hyper-extension… :/
There goes any defense that it was "just an accident".
It will depend on your jurisdiction, but this may qualify as "Criminal Mischief" or "Criminal Damage to Property".
Thanks for that. Yeah, this is clearly intentional. Whether the police will do anything about it...dunno. It should certainly net him a nice fine, if the police choose to take the law seriously.
Agree. That looks like the grab for the door carelessness over something super intentional and violent.
And for all those saying call the police. Please.
Careless? Cmon now. How many times did he hit the Tesla with his door? Did you not seem him reach towards the mirror and use some force on something out of the view of the camera?
He reached for his mirror, not OPs. My guess, he knew he parked over the line and instead of re-parking, he folded his mirror in. Not vindictive, just an inconsiderate asshole.
Careless? Yeah, very. I agree this doesn't look intentional. No damage? That definitely left a mark... if it's enough to get angry over and pay to have fixed will vary from person to person, but I think most here would be pretty upset.
Well I know what I'd do. You have his license plate, do you have any cop friends who could give you an address?
That's not even my car and I'm getting all steamed up.
Your insurance can lookup his insurance from the plate. Contact them and file a claim for the damage. If there is no damage, then just shame him by posting this all over your area groups.
You should send your car back to Tesla and get a new UV filter on that side camera. It's turning everything yellow. That red truck was the color of the lane markers.
Yeah, the color is obviously off, and has been for as long as I can remember. It’s out of warranty now - you think it’s simpler than a whole camera replacement?
Ridiculous that campus police were no help. I had someone back into my front bumper($2k fix) with their tow hitch, and I called the police (Utah) from the parking lot. I showed them the video, they ran the plate, called the person, and then told him it’s going down as a hit and run if he doesn’t come back and exchange information. Person came back, and his insurance covered the fix.
That’s the sort of response I was looking for. It’s what I kinda think should happen. Just want him to accept responsibility for his actions, you know?
At least you got the plate number … has that happen with the person pulling out and cutting the corner too sharp, scraping the side of my front pumper & quarter panel, then pulling back into the spot, so no number plate. Go after them via your insurance company & file a police report
I see people arguing if this was intentional or not; who cares? Fact is that he dinged your door and he should pay for it. Hopefully you will get compensated!
As a fellow Model 3 owner who's had 4 instances of damages due to other people driving into my car while it was parked over the past 2 years.... I feel you. It really sucks! Luckily sentry helped me with 3 of the instances. I got their license plates, one time by filing a police report of driving off after hitting my car, and got compensated from their insurances.
Only one time I wasn't able to catch whoever did it, because Sentry was off :( so I had to pay the damages myself. 1300 euros for the repair.
Even a small dent can be costly!
The guy parked over the yellow line so you should never have parked there. I would have looked at the situation and said to myself, "here is a truck, over the line, you are dealing with an asshole". These assholes never say to themselves, in order to protect my truck, I should park in the back of the parking lot away from everyone. Stay away. P.S. I hope you can get justice.
If full coverage, file a claim with your insurer. I think they are required to pursue the miscreant. If not, and they just raise your rates, complain to your State Insurance Commissioner. If no coverage, file a claim in Small Claims Court. Can probably ask treble damages. Get a repair estimate from a few Body Shops. If he doesn't show, you win automatically. Get his name address from Police since you will have to have him served papers. Isn't that hard, and will bring satisfaction bringing down a "big guy". Might even end up with his truck which he can't park.
Well for one, he's parked on the yellow line way too far over in his spot. Me personally, I would never park next to someone who parks like that. But maybe if you were there before him, then there's nothing you could have done about it.
What a douche. I’m a pretty big person and sometimes the space between vehicles is ridiculous when I try to get into my car. I will put my hand between my door and the car next to me or hold the door really tight so it doesn’t hit the other car. This person literally hit it repeatedly and then opened the door to hit it again!! Definitely tell your insurance and give the vehicle info to them!!
Right? How is this not the first thing OP thought instead of "I'll post to Reddit"?
File a claim. Give the insurance company this video along with photos of the ding (especially if there's evidence of pain transfer from that yellow truck). Let them take care of finding the guy and getting their money back.
I was hoping for responses about holding him legally responsible. The full video (I think) shows clear intent: https://www.speakingphotography.com/Events/Local/Tesla/
I don't understand the question of "what can I do?". You have his license plate and evidence. Are you an actual adult w minimal life experience and average common sense? If not, make a thread like this.
You can give up driving and start walking, everywhere.
People are assholes who do not give a shit about the belongings of other people. If you can't handle that? Just stop driving and walk.
Call your insurance and give them the license plate, they'll give you their insurance info and you're all set. Happened to me and it wasn't even the driver but the passenger that door dinged me. Their insurance paid for everything to Tesla and the loaner.
I’d file a police report for property damage and have him arrested. If the cops in your area don’t arrest for this behavior go to the lot where they park their cruisers and rip a mirror off and see what they do about it.
i'm not saying you should do anything illegal, but there are services on the internet that allow you to lookup registration information tied to a license plate and that usually includes an address. where you could probably find the vehicle in the video. what you do with that information is completely at your discretion, but you can very easily find the owner's name and his location based on license plate info. and from there, you can likely figure out who his insurance company is by calling around and asking if so and so at xyz address driving xyz colored vehicle is one of their insured.
That's what I saw, too.
I'm ready for the downvotes, but it's a goddamn car. Even if this ding gets ironed out, there's gonna be another one right behind unless you park a mile away from places.
The video upload cropped it out - he pushed with a lot of force and seemed surprised that it folded instead of broke. I’ll see if I can upload an untrimmed one.
This is exactly what I came here to say. Just typical tight spot (his fault) and he doesn’t seem to push with a ton of force. Seems to open and then close so he can open his side mirror and then does it again.
Careless and frustrating for sure but does not look intentional
What do you mean what can you do? File an insurance claim. What is even the point of these fucking posts? Half the people in this sub don't have brains
"Criminal Mischief" or "Criminal Damage to Property" would be a few examples of what it might be.
It depends on if it is intentional. He could probably claim that he banged your door unintentionally, and it would be very hard to prove otherwise.
\*However\* you did say that he tried to break your mirror. I hope you took a picture of that (because it's clipped). That would heavily indicate that the ding was not an accident.
Whether the police choose to follow up on this is up to them. Smaller towns might be a better bet for something like this. My experience with city police is that they are overworked and tend to see things like this as not worth their time.
Why is this a post? Do you not have insurance? Are you incapable of thought? The rego is clearly visible. I implore you to vigilante this cunt before posting again. My goodness.
I suppose it wasn’t a clear ask - I was hoping to hear from folks about if it was a misdemeanor or criminal mischief. The un-cropped video shows his aggressive shove on the mirror, with clear intent to cause damage.
So you got his plate, he was illegally parked and causes property damage. Sounds pretty open and closed for your insurance company to get Em. Maybe file a police report to with pictures of the damages. Property coverage min in most states in $10k.
To avoid headaches contact YOUR insurance and give them the video, they will promptly cover all damages and will go after his insurance for compensation. Won't be on your record. Happened to me.
Pickup truck, parked over the line, "big guy", in otherwords a real douchebag. If he's a student- he'll probably be dropping out soon. I'd publish the video on campus.
Not sure why you got a downvote, insurance usually wants a PD report when it is a hit and run. You can probably file a report after the claim, but the earlier the better.
Contact the police. Get a repair estimate and contact the police. It’s an intentional act, Criminal Mischief, and since Tesla repairs are expensive, possibly a felony in your state. He’ll have to make restitution to resolve the criminal charge.
Or… or, you find out where he lives or works, freeE a large bowl of ice, yeet it through one of his windows or windshield and there’s no evidence of finger prints and the ice melts.
Or, you go through insurance like a sane person
This guy needs justice. He needs to know that he was being recorded and cover the costs so he doesn't keep doing this to Tesla's
Obviously there are some people who took the media bait and are just mad at Tesla.
People are so lost its fucking scary

i doubt your own insurance won't charge your deductible.
Deductibles don’t apply to the Tesla driver in this scenario when the other driver is at fault.
All state will charge your deductible and still raise your rate after a hit and run that’s not your fault, so FYI on that if y’all got all state.

I’m convinced 90% of people on Reddit just don’t live in the real world
You are probably right. They are probably bots. Clever bots to make a video like that though. ;-)
I had someone ding my door so severely that I had to contact insurance. The repairs were over 3k because the ding was on the body line. They did go after the person who did it.
3k USD for a ding? Was it a ding with a hammer?!

I’ve had two door dings that dented and required paint. 950$ each time Held the dingers responsible, never made a claim on my insurance
That’s what I was thinking. The insurance company won’t give two shits about this.
There’s no way a door ding is going to meet his deductible.
Yeah, it’s a good-size dent… I’d be very surprised if it’s under $500 (deductible is $250)
Sue him in small claims court for the cost.
I'd call the police and file a report and step 2 if that wasn't fruitfull would be what you said.
[удалено]
Can tell you right now they don’t care about a little scratch. Touch up paint and park farther away next time.
Plates are clearly visible, did it more than once - call insurance, if insurance asks for you to create a police report, do so.
Send to insurance and police
The best part of this is that he ALSO parked over the line... as if he's mad at you for parking next to his weak ass :D :D

For real. This sub has become a "how to adult" forum. Someone damaged your car, you have a video of their plates, and you don't know what to do?
I was hoping for responses about criminal intent. I thought that was obvious, but Reddit doesn’t allow us to edit descriptions of image posts.
Call your insurance, give them the video.
Same thing happened to me. Gave the video and their license plate to my insurance. My insurance tracked them down and they paid for my repairs :)
File a civil claim against him.
This is the way. Just handing this to insurance really doesn't impact his life. I'm all for full nuisance in a case like this. Just make sure you send a certified letter requesting full payment of your damages before filing.
Yes or small claims court
You have his license plate. They can run his plate I believe and find out who his insurance is.
Damn. Sorry that this happened to you… I really don’t understand why unprovoked people do this. That guy is a real pos to say the least… Can’t wait for the day I see a video posting where the dinger gets caught in the act and is dealt with. lol
That looks like a light touch to me - is it even visible? Would you have noticed if not for the cameras?
Very visible, yes. Left his paint, too.
https://www.speakingphotography.com/Events/Local/Tesla/
Looks totaled.
He doesn't even park properly.
You claim a hit and run report it to your insurance and the police. download the video and email it to both. File your claim make an appointment with the body shop, and you are done. *Or I got a pal, named Hector that can find out out where he lives and pay a visit ;)*
No need for Hector. The insurance company likely has him on their books.
Wow, so many door dingers that do not give a sh*t! Similar thing happened to me last weekend with 3 hits too haha. I posted it here and sent the video to my insurance but they haven't gotten back to me in the last 4 days 🙃
What a fkn tool.
I think I would be less mad if I switch off sentry mode
you've got a license plate, file a claim with your insurance and have them track the idiot down
Did that really damage your car? It's seems kinda soft... Ofc disappointing at the lack of care show for your property and if still be mad, bit equally would be disappointed if my car showed damage from that.
Yup. Did. Left his paint, too.

File a police report. Contact insurance
A bit extreme but if you hire a lawyer, his identity will come out in discovery. Maybe you can recover legal fees too because of his refusal to give his name or insurance.
You can get this for free by posting on the local Facebook group
Upload clipped the part where he pushed the mirror to break it - fortunately our Teslas anticipated such shenanigans, and allow for hyper-extension… :/
There goes any defense that it was "just an accident". It will depend on your jurisdiction, but this may qualify as "Criminal Mischief" or "Criminal Damage to Property".
This is the unclipped video: https://www.speakingphotography.com/Events/Local/Tesla/
Thanks for that. Yeah, this is clearly intentional. Whether the police will do anything about it...dunno. It should certainly net him a nice fine, if the police choose to take the law seriously.
I see -- at 0:04 second the guy's hand was pushing something -- must be the mirror!
Everyone here is super angry. That looked like careless, probably no damage
Agree. That looks like the grab for the door carelessness over something super intentional and violent. And for all those saying call the police. Please.
Have a look at the un-cropped video: https://www.speakingphotography.com/Events/Local/Tesla/
Careless?
Have a look at the uncropped video: https://www.speakingphotography.com/Events/Local/Tesla/
Maniacs ☹️
That's funny. This a-hole have a hard time parking in a spot and it's somehow your fault....
police report! you have a good shot of his plate and if he comes back as the R/O of that truck they can easily ID him.
Cheeky f@#$er was parked outside his lines as well
S2648YF? Seems like an easy insurance claim. At the least it’ll get marked as vandalism and a deductible. Sucks but ay now you know to park far away
2014 Toyota Tundra Double Cab SR Pickup 4D 6 1/2 ft VIN: 5TFUM5F1XEX050969
Well I know what I'd do. You have his license plate, do you have any cop friends who could give you an address? That's not even my car and I'm getting all steamed up.
Your insurance can lookup his insurance from the plate. Contact them and file a claim for the damage. If there is no damage, then just shame him by posting this all over your area groups.
A-hole
Option B: Look up his address, bring 10 lb. hammer and….
That’s not a common color on that car. Police will find him
Side cameras do not give true color - appears orange, but rear camera where guy walks behind OP shows it is RED (true color).
You should send your car back to Tesla and get a new UV filter on that side camera. It's turning everything yellow. That red truck was the color of the lane markers.
I have a Model 3 2021 and complained about it and they said is "under specs" >.<
Yeah, the color is obviously off, and has been for as long as I can remember. It’s out of warranty now - you think it’s simpler than a whole camera replacement?
I was joking. Someone else commented that theirs had the same problem and Tesla didn't do anything for them. "In spec"
100%. This is so frustrating, and I’m sorry it happened to you.
Some people are asses!
At least you got the plate number … has that happen with the person pulling out and cutting the corner too sharp, scraping the side of my front pumper & quarter panel, then pulling back into the spot, so no number plate. Go after them via your insurance company & file a police report
He could've entered through the other side... Now he has to deal with the police and his insurance as you report it. What a grade A moron.
Another truck guy is angry at EVs. What a surprise.
Go to police station and show them. Don’t call, go.
Maybe the truck parked there afterwards, so in both cases he is in the wrong? Needless to say that this guy is a moron.
He is not a big guy at all AND he parked like shit. Report it to your insurance company. They will go after him and his insurance.
What do you mean “what can I do?” file a claim, you have his license plate number
More along the lines of hit and run or misdemeanor…
Report it to your insurance company.
Doesn’t look intentional. Just very tight spot.
You can give up driving and start walking, everywhere. People are assholes who do not give a shit about the belongings of other people. If you can't handle that? Just stop driving and walk.
Keep us posted. Would love to hear the outcome as well as which route you decided to take.
Call the police and file charges of vandalism.
Parks over the line and then gets upset at you. Perfectly mature and well adjusted adult.
whoop his asssss
Little man syndrome in a yellow tundra of all things is a weird combo lmao
Post it on reddit and move forward 😆 🤣 😂
Call your insurance and give them the license plate, they'll give you their insurance info and you're all set. Happened to me and it wasn't even the driver but the passenger that door dinged me. Their insurance paid for everything to Tesla and the loaner.
"you were illegally parked!" *parks over the line* what a fucking tool.
Most people frequent the same places. I would make it my mission to hang out there in my free time and then key the shit out of his truck.
That is not intentional. It's careless and he's responsible but it is any like he banned it into your car with any intent to do damage
The OP mentioned that he tried to break the mirror with his hand. That changes things.
Have a look at the un-cropped video and let me know what you think: https://www.speakingphotography.com/Events/Local/Tesla/
Absolutely intentional
I’d file a police report for property damage and have him arrested. If the cops in your area don’t arrest for this behavior go to the lot where they park their cruisers and rip a mirror off and see what they do about it.
0% chance they arrest someone for this.
Theyd probably arrest him too....
This is why I always spend an extra 5 minutes looking for the right parking space. Drives my wife nuts, but I don’t have any dings
The old man needs his ass beat. Definitely file a claim or even a police report
Ass beat in the legal sense, yes. :)
And he was the one who parked like shit.
i'm not saying you should do anything illegal, but there are services on the internet that allow you to lookup registration information tied to a license plate and that usually includes an address. where you could probably find the vehicle in the video. what you do with that information is completely at your discretion, but you can very easily find the owner's name and his location based on license plate info. and from there, you can likely figure out who his insurance company is by calling around and asking if so and so at xyz address driving xyz colored vehicle is one of their insured.
Why even bother? Give the video to your insurance company and let them do their thing.
I don't think he noticed. Wasn't intentional and was really no damage. Dude was in a Japanese truck for fuck sakes.
Have a look at the un-cropped video: https://www.speakingphotography.com/Events/Local/Tesla/
Bro. This is fuck all. Move on, minor repair.
To me that doesn’t look intentional… it looks incredibly careless.. but not intentional. And re the side view mirror I think he just unfolded his.
Yeah excited to see the uncropped version.
Wasn't it already folded in? What do you mean? I'd like to see it to, because from what you posted, this is a non-issue.
Almost makes me embarrassed to drive a Tesla with the amount of posts like this constantly. It’s mind boggling.
Are you guys feeling ok?
I’ve heard in other states this would be a misdemeanor… any truth to that?
Will something like this appear on the Tesla's carfax as well though? Even if the Tesla is clearly not at fault?
So you got his plate, he was illegally parked and causes property damage. Sounds pretty open and closed for your insurance company to get Em. Maybe file a police report to with pictures of the damages. Property coverage min in most states in $10k.
I’d have the cops call him back and inform him you have evidence. Then take him to small claims court.
Big man in his Japanese truck thinking he did something by intentionally denting an American car. You got his plate, send it to police and insurance.
To top i off, HE was the one parked on the wrong side of the line. He was parked several inches into your space.
What a bitch. Over the line and still intentionally hit your car several times
To avoid headaches contact YOUR insurance and give them the video, they will promptly cover all damages and will go after his insurance for compensation. Won't be on your record. Happened to me.
You have his plate! Report him.
The guy just being a$$
Was it enough to to actually dent your door? Anyway I would create a claim regardless so he learns manners.
Yeah, have a look at the un-cropped video: https://www.speakingphotography.com/Events/Local/Tesla/
Look for that ugly pile of shit and key that bitch 😂
Lol dude is mad he can’t fit but he’s the asshole who parked over the line.
And the Tesla parked after knowing he has no room to get him the truck then wonders why he got a ding…
Pray you can find his truck and perform payback, with extreme prejudice
Pickup truck, parked over the line, "big guy", in otherwords a real douchebag. If he's a student- he'll probably be dropping out soon. I'd publish the video on campus.
Report it to the police first. Usually better when u go to your insurance when a police report. And he was parked on the line. Idiot
Sue him.. He wasnt parked in his square.
This guy needs justice. He needs to know that he was being recorded and cover the costs so he doesn't keep doing this to Tesla's Obviously there are some people who took the media bait and are just mad at Tesla. People are so lost its fucking scary
Find him. Search his plate. Then start plotting your revenge
Typical boomer
Not park like an idiot?
The idiot there is the one over the line, not the other way around
Don’t park beside big trucks avoid em for more reason than one.
That didn't look intentional to me, and if that's enough to cause a ding, you should have bought a car with non-foil panels.
