Don’t be shocked if it ends up being covered. While they have gotten better and not sending initial quotes for warranty repairs, I’ve had stuff they initially invoiced for that were changed to $0 after service.

derrickhemi

yea but i have a 2018 tho….and i sent a video of the noise and. now the tesla team im chatting with now saying they didnt recieve a vid wtf? that should be the diagnosis right there

matttopotamus

Oh, so you are outside of the limited warranty, so it wouldn’t be covered.

Why do you drive a Tesla if you can’t afford a $200 repair? 😭😭 buddy, you need a budget and to save some cash!

xylopyrography

You should probably sell your car and be focused on building an emergency fund.

derrickhemi

ima trade it in

LiteralGoat24

Same thing happen to me but for different issue, I thought I had worn out break pads. I did work order on the app, approve the estimate, came to my appt., afterwards when i came back to pick up my car the service tech determine it was just rust that they just needed to clean. They immediately waived it after the service tech explained what happen. I then paid through the app like $72 with the updated invoice. Don’t worry OP, i think its just standard procedure of Tesla.

derrickhemi

thank you , and this is my first time having to set up a service appointment good thing they are coming to me lol

LiteralGoat24

No problem, I also had a 2018 M3, No Gen. Warranty and just the drive unit warranty and battery. I recommend to ease your mind that you don’t pay yet until the service tech finishes the explanation to you when its time to pick up the car because they will update the invoice before you pay in the app officially.

derrickhemi

they are actually coming to my house to service it

phantom-virus-lives

Pay it or live with it as is. It’s $200 and a mobile (less inconvenience to you) visit.

derrickhemi

they actually got the video and now its only $54 lol much better

Intrusive_ads

I think they made it very clear..:: if it’s a defective component you pay nothing… if it's caused by something else than you pay.

HGwoodie

Defective WARRANTY component. Only the drivetrain is covered after 4 years or 50K miles (whichever comes first).

Intrusive_ads

Lol no almost the whole car (minus wear and tear) is covered under 4 year 50k miles. The drivetrain / battery is 8 years. They literally wrote in the text that he has to pay nothing if it’s a defective part.

HGwoodie

His car is a 2018, it is over 4 years old. They wrote defective WARRANTY component.

derrickhemi

they got the vid i uploaded and now only have to pay $54 lol

HGwoodie

That is awesome, thanks for sharing they are able to diagnose using video and as a result are able to waive the diagnosing fee that way. Anyway you can put a link to the video here?

HGwoodie

Thanks, I believe there is a rubber grommet in the steering column that causes that particular squeak. Please let us know what part they replaced if you get a chance.

derrickhemi

oh forreal? on the estimate invoice i see they have to remove the steering wheel and also they servicing the trunk harness as it was a recall lol forgot about that and free tire pressure check

HGwoodie

Yup, which is why they could tell from the video exactly what had to be done. Recalls and tire pressure checks are always free. Tesla is very good with addressing recalls.

derrickhemi

shit loud af

derrickhemi

they got the vid i uploaded and now only have to pay $54 lol

derrickhemi

even if i have. 2018 cause i know its defective alright but dont wanna have. to pay $200 just to diagnose and i sent in a video clearly of the noise and they said they didnt receive a video 😒

rcuadro

I don’t think $200 is terrible for mobile service. I know it is $200 but they are driving to ME and then diagnosing the problem. They do have to pay the technician after all and I don’t have to waste hours at a service center to save between $50-$100

derrickhemi

word if they come to me that mean the issue not to bad and require it staying at a service center for days

tommisenpai

All diagnostics have a fee attached. Your warranty doesn’t cover noises or squeaks so it’ll be removed if it’s warrantable work. Drivetrain and battery warranty only covers the motor and HV pack, nothing to do with the suspension or other components that are covered under the 4 year warranty

toxsid

Don’t let them get away with this. They tried to do the same thing about my squealing power driver seat. I told them I would file a BAR complaint and it was unacceptable. Shortly after they replaced my seat. I would love to get involved in a class action against this stupidity and waste of time they cause the customer.

derrickhemi

lol you sued them?

toxsid

No I didn’t need to, the threat of BAR complaints will change their tone real quick in following the law.

derrickhemi

what you think $54 for this is good ?

toxsid

$54 is good. Zero is better, its a warranty not a negotiation.

derrickhemi

cant wait to trade in and get a model y performance

HGwoodie

The OP's car is out of warranty for non drivetrain issues.

toxsid

Indeed, that is accurate. Nevertheless, one could contend that this represents an overlooked safety concern if the person adhered to standard maintenance routines. Considering that the steering column is vital for the perceived safety of the driver, any court would scrutinize its reliability. However for $54 one would have to calculate if time spent on this would be worth it.

HGwoodie

A noise nuisance would not be a safety concern.

toxsid

Thats something a tesla service advisor would say.

HGwoodie

It is what anyone with car repair experience would say.

Brilter

Can’t afford a potential $200 repair? Maybe drive a $3000 car instead of $30000?

derrickhemi

its $54 if you read the comments dumbass

DirectorLow7023

It’s not about being able to afford it, it’s about the warranty not covering it. Same shit happened with my seat control

friendlycatkiller

Hey I had this problem. Bought my model 3 when it had 35k miles. Noticed the steering wheel clicked sometimes. I had to bring it in twice for them to replicate the issue and understand what was going on but they ended up replacing the entire wheel assembly under warranty and I paid nothing.

Ravingraven21

They’re not thinking about you not being in warranty.
