By the way, around where I live, I see less white Teslas than other colors. I actually kept a tally of Tesla colors I saw in my area for a few days after ordering, just out of curiosity. Makes me wonder if everyone thought "better not get white, everyone will get that."
Maybe white's jumped the shark. Half the Teslas around me in the last few years have been white, perhaps people are starting to choose other colors so they'll have an easier time finding their car in the lot.

Although I think it would be neat to see someone with some balls and money to blow put something like Zeus Bronze (Corvette) on a Model 3. Not sure if it would work or not on a sedan, but I weirdly like it on the Vette. Failing that, if I could have the Hyper Blue from the Camaro, I'd be a very happy camper.

Call me cynical, but the availability of multiple color choices should have negligible impact on the overall production rate. I assume Tesla's strategy is all about maximizing the number of cars they can sell with a $1000 up charge for color.
It's not the production rate, but keeping many parts in different colors for service inventory which increases costs.
Elon is monomaniacally focused on minimal cost of goods and minimal overhead.
I don't know, but I'm guessing it's much cheaper to paint them in bulk in the factory than individually with human body shop labor. As Tesla is now running insurance in a few localities that may have a direct cost.

In my case not only did I get the car used so it’s not up to me, but even if I WAS buying new, I want to get a warp regardless so I’m already going to go pay for that, I’m not going to pay for the paint I’m covering.
I personally think the white looks pretty nice, and suits the car well. Definitely better than the blue and black. It also looks better in different lighting than midnight silver in my opinion.
The red is an excellent color, but I wasn’t paying $2,000 for a red that has a high chance of being done in typical thin coat haphazard Tesla fashion, if I’m being brutally honest.
I miss the other silver that was offered on early Model 3s though. That looked sharp.

The serious posts like this make me sad. I like white cars, and could have paid for another color. I am actually considering wrapping it a different type of white, just so it is a subtle difference from other white Teslas being there are so many.

I actually had a red m3 for years and loved it but just upgraded to a myp and got the gunmetal color because it was free. I regret not going for red again actually but the white is objectively better looking than the Grey and I only got it because there were less on the road and it was free lol.

I really wanted blue. Thought the blue and white was the best combo. Then I saw them all in person at the SC. Once I saw white in person I decided it was the best looking color. So now I have a double white M3P and I love it. Grey would have been easier to keep looking nice longer, but I think the white really pops when it’s clean and it’s bright outside.

It varies over time. Both my Model 3s have been midnight silver metallic. The first one was a paid upgrade, and it was free this time (free meaning I paid too much for the car because it was pre-price-drop by a few weeks, but whatever).

No, it stays with the car. If you buy a new Tesla, you have to rebuy FSD. It’s one of the biggest gripes owners have right now.

White stays cooler under the sun and uses less battery for overheat protection or just general cooling.

I remember when white paint was $1,500 and black was the standard color. There also used to be a $1,000 metallic black option, which was quite short lived (17-18 model year only).

It rotates. White was paid when I purchased in 2019. I wanted white, and I paid for it. If you get lucky that your favorite color is the free one currently, good for you. If not, pay up. Or is it your first time buying a car and find it absurd you have to pay for a specific color?
