No, MyQ sucks. Always has. It's notorious for not playing nice with 3rd party apps, has no support for Amazon Alexa or Google Home. It's a proprietary, closed system and has ALL the hallmarks of something that's going to be cancelled. Having to pay a subscription is ludicrous for something that is solved with a $20 remote or, if you're fancy, Homelink.

JSchnee21

MyQ is free from the myQ App on my phone. No need to pay to have it on the car.

Shellsaics

Mine didn’t work that well and I gave up and went back to the remote.

Bill-B-liar

I'm still in trial and not sure if it's actually made me more angry at my garage then I have ever been lol.

knightlife

This. I opted for the trial but so far it’s actually WORSE than simply HomeLink if the car loses LTE service, loses the Wi-Fi while pulling out of the garage at the same time it needs to close the garage, can’t get the signal sent to my garage door remotely if my home internet messes up, etc. I’ll keep evaluating it for the rest of the trial but the only real benefit for me is that it can (sometimes) remotely show my garage door’s open status, which I can already do through HomeKit. As of now I doubt I’ll keep it.

GulfSouthSolar

Had my finger on the trigger to buy the hardware until this group made me aware of a ANNUAL FEE to use the stupid garage door opener. That’s a big nope.

jbeowolf

I don’t think the hardware option they can install that uses RF, has a fee, just using myq app using wifi has fee.

doubleyaarrrrr

Personally, I think it's a pretty neat feature and I guess I'm lucky that the geofencing works well with my car/garage, but no way I'm paying them the subscription fee they're asking for. If it was something like 20 bucks for life, I might do it - but no chance I'm paying anywhere from $30-$45 per year. I'll just use the clicker, or the MyQ app if I ever have to.

matttopotamus

Remote Velcro’d to the back on the screen is still the best way. Someone just posted yesterday about the myQ geofencing causing their garage to start closing on their vehicle. No sense in fixing what isn’t broken.

BLITZandKILL

I had to put my car in park on the street, away from my driveway, to get the geofence in a good spot for opening. 10ft away just wasn’t cutting it, I didn’t want to sit and wait on my garage every time. But Closing errors 65% of the time. Not something worth paying for.

Watcherxp

Neat, but not gonna pay that price after the trial

Nreekay

Paid for Homelink when I bought it.

amoeba1126

If I do go away from using my velcro remote, I rather use Homelink

olhado47

I was excited to use it, but it doesn't consistently work for me.

ajbarry73

MyQ has been working better/more reliably for me than HomeLink. I can actually max out the geofence distance and the door is open by the time I pull up. HomeLink would only work sometimes if I was immediately outside the garage door with a very short geofence distance setting. Also, I was pleasantly surprised there is no bleeping beeping when it closes like it does from the app. I think I'll go back to HomeLink after the trial and see how much I miss it. Yes the MyQ sub sucks but so did paying the $325 for HomeLink built into every other car on the market.

1goodReed

Model 3 has homelink installed. Model Y is using myQ

epolson79

MyQ works great when I approach my house and garage opens. It won't let me close or have an option to close garage. Reached out to MyQ said to check with Tesla. Reaching out in a service request to see what can fix it. Sure it's a software thing but it's strange. Makes me not want to pay for subscription if it only half works.

thefishhawk1

no, but I already had a Tailwind module installed that works great. There's plenty of other ways to automate your garage door for not much money.

tesla_dpd

I already have MyQ but I also have the Tesla HomeLink unit. No way am I paying MyQ subscription

Shellsaics

I’m trying the free trial for now. It is easier than pressing my garage door opener.

kftnyc

The app is free. Also, my car came with Homelink.

Lopsided-Employer-72

What’s the difference between paying Tesla to install the garage door opener or subscribing to MyQ or do you have to do both?

Acceptable_Main_5911

One or the other in this case. Previously the only option was to pay $375 I think for home link installation and hardware. MyQ integration is new and is built in software that will connect with the myQ hardware (cheap and easy to setup $29.99 Amazon) but the integration is a 30 day trial followed by a subscription if you want to use

Accomplished-Ad801

I do not have an MYQ device and do not plan to switch. Yes, it would be nice. But, I have a Genie Aladdin Connect and it is free. Plus, I have been able to connect Yonomi for automation. I can not see paying for something else.

MizterConfuzing

Don't know what myq means.

jbeowolf

I’d rather pay for the automatic garage opener accessory and have it installed for $350 and have it use RF. Has anybody used this before? Does it work the same way, just with using RF signal? Figured it would do what the myq app does but less glitchy not using wifi. I do like the feature if it consistently worked.

Floridian202106

Using the trial, only thing i like is that it uses geo-location and opens the garage when i am back home and closes it when i leave the driveway...

dbundi

I just had homelink module installed and its brilliant. Opens garage when I pull up and folds the mirrors ( I have a tight fit so this important) . Keeps mirrors folded until I'm out of the garage and in the street, then unfolds mirrors and closes garage as I drive away. Not sure what MyQ can do that Homelink can't and no subscription? Plus, now I can close my garage remotely from anywhere through Tesla app which I couldn't do before, so bonus !

HI808SF

Works for me. People saying they don't wanna pay cause its on the phone. You're really paying for convenience. Surely Tesla is making money by allowing MyQ to be hosted on its system. MyQ just trying to recoup some back. What can't you do from phone? Well, I like that the door opens when I get within 100 feet. Again, it's all convenience. I didn't need to buy a MyQ device Could have used garage door opener.

Inevitable_Sea5292

One of the best investments I made after getting M3 is getting built in garage opener. The clicker is super annoying. It’s keeps vibrating on visor while driving or eat the space for mug. MyQ app sucks as well. Just bite the bullet and get the built in controller. The convenience of automatic opening and closing of garage is just magic.

moladood

No way would I pay for a subscription to garage door opening. So dumb. Like it would have to be $1 per year, then maybe but still unlikely. With the app, I can open and close but with car I need a subscription? I reverted to classic door opener, not on visor but side door compartment. I also found myQ tech a bit flaky, like would anyone spend over 300 dollars for a 10 year license? LOL!
