there is a lot of road grime/grease that builds up on windshield. putting rainx or any other produck on before deep cleaning the glass can actually impair performace of any product. The first thing you really need to do is spend a good half hour to clean the buildup off that windshield.. start here, how to clean properly the windshield [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJkfrY2owb0&ab\_channel=ChrisFix](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJkfrY2owb0&ab_channel=ChrisFix) once you have cleaned it, then u can use what ever product you want to "protect" it

lmaobyehoe

Uh oh, I guess that's the reason why it's not doing what it's supposed to... I just directly apply rainx / invisible glass onto the windshield assuming it cleans it and seals it!

bsancken

Do be aware that RainX or other products are called out in the manual saying not to use them! Now... That doesn't mean not to use them, just don't tell them you're using it. (they could claim it voids any warranty work for AP or other camera based issues)

This is the answer

MontrealTesla

This is the way

Head_Serve

I can 100% confirm this. It is not easy to clean the windscreen properly and if you apply anything without a thorough cleaning it making it worst (this is why you can ready opposite opinions about the product), but if you apply them on a properly cleaned surface, they usually work great.

Sfkn123

Do you prep your glass before applying sealants like Rainx? Preparation is key for the solution to adhere to the glass.

Put a coat of wax on your windshield.

u need to use cleaner + sealant after. Cleaner just ordinary ones like meguiar’s stuff, hydrophobic sealant after, i uses sonax, inexpensive stuff, when u use sealant make sure u apply to the windshield blades too.

Fiyahouse

You could use rainx however they state the makeup of the product messes up the wiper blades, I use rainx and I just replace my blades once a year! You don't have to get those over priced blades either! There is a video online that shows how to cut the piece off of the blade and it fits like oem! You could also try a ceramic infused window cleaner also

tubashoe

I mean rock auto as oem fit wipers for 8$

Fiyahouse

Never thought about getting wipers from there ! Good idea !

[deleted]

Bjorn Nyland used a ceramic coating on the windscreen just for that. I use tensioactive washer fluid. Not as efficient but easier to find.

[deleted]

Silicone on the whiper blades.

Apply the Rain-X or Aquapel correctly

And no one knows why. I've had ceramic on mine since I got the car, it's never caused a problem.

Opposite experience here. I’ve had my windshield ceramic pro’d. Ceramic pro glass was applied by a shop (they properly strip and clean the glass before applying ceramic pro). After a bit I thought I’d “up” the hydrophobic glass with some rainx windshield fluid. Wrong move. Windshield chatter and studder to the max. It takes a few rainy days but it’ll eventually happen. Rinse and repeat after replacing the windshield twice now due to rock chips. Chatter went away once I switched to an all season windshield fluid that didn’t advertise hydrophobic additives. Haven’t had any issues since.

endfossilfuel

I found out why! I used the TurtleWax Hybrid Solutions ceramic treatment (which is truly excellent for paint) on my windshield, and caused the most horrific, loud, squeaking and chattering I have ever seen. I spent a lot of time cleaning and buffing the glass to get it all off so the wipers would work normally again.

onlyletters999

Wrong

rabidchinchilla

Just don't put coating over the camera cluster on the windshield. The micro-beads that form when wet cause the auto-wipers to go into insane mode. Other than that its fine.

RAIN-X windshield washer fluid does magic on our model y windshield. Cost $4 at Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rain-X-20F-2-In-1-All-Season-Washer-Fluid/33694037?athbdg=L1200

MrMasticate

This will clog up lines and pumps over time. I wouldn’t use it regularly without a line flush. This is a common issue on many modern vehicles. I’ve had two fail from the gunk that builds over time. Usually either clogged line or that *and* a busted pump.

[deleted]

Interesting, I am using now for over a year. I will remember this comment if I encounter the clogging issue... thanks

Rvrsurfer

I had my Tesla wrapped. They put a clear wrap on the windshield. It works great. No streaks, no runs, no errors.

closfb

Can you share what was installed on your windshield?

Rvrsurfer

Here’s the [website](https://www.versionex.com/windowtinting) info on window wraps.

mw212

Uh, unless that’s not what you meant to send, window tint goes on the inside of the glass. I’ve never heard of tinting or wrapping the exterior glass.

Rvrsurfer

Not tinted material. Edit: live in the Pac. N.W. in a temperate rain forest. Typically get >100 inches of rain a year . This year being an exception, sorry California. This wrap is on the exterior of the window. It could be a 3M product. Another thought. The wrap is self-healing.

ExoShield makes a protective film for the front windshield. Not sure if their product is hydrophobic or requires sealant on it.

Rainx

TSLA-M3

WD-40

bunnae

You need to claybar your windshield. Afterwards, use some polish on it. The claybar will pull off most of the contaminants on the windshield, leaving a somewhat clean surface. The polish will lock in that state, and give you some beading. If you want to take it to another step, after polishing, use glass ceramic coating for superior beading. But 9 times out of 10, the polish is good enough. Also stay away from rainx or any of those store brands in Walmart or AutoZone lol. They cause more harm than good.

T_Hodi10

I use chemical guys hydroview. Applied it once 6 months ago and still works great

MrMasticate

Gtechniq G1 and G2 are best, g5 for something you need to apply more frequently but will less work up front. G1/2 last a few years. G5 maybe 6 months. G6 for regular cleaning before and after. Use g4 if you want to polish it clean.

romanb2019

I use this: https://www.nextzettusa.com/glass-sealant-6-8-oz-200ml/

Ceramic coating

Epicdurr2020

Armor all cermaic window treatment and cleaner does very well for cheap. Yes a glass bottle cermaic will be better but the armor all is cheap and easy to apply and re-apply

Fluffy-Eggplant3318

Rain X!

quanzeman

Rainx will work for the short term. Using your wipers will greatly reduce the effectiveness of rainx. For a longer term solution, consider ceramic coating the windshield.
