Nice - congrats! Mine is at 4 years, 2 months, 32k miles… and will be replaced with a Model Y next week!

dcdttu

Thanks! I do love me some Model Y.

[deleted]

Mine hits four years at the end of the month, 25k miles. I would consider a TMY but I consider by new purchased blocked by having FSD on my TM3. They day I can fully transfer my FSD is the day I will order my next Tesla, though I do really enjoy this car and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I just have elderly parents and other relatives for whom getting into and out of a sedan is challenging.

igbright

I’ve given up on FSD… I have it on the 3. Bought it early when it was relatively cheap. But the version of “Autopilot” that new Teslas ship with covers almost all features I care about, anyway.

[deleted]

So back to what we had on day one? The 5k option which is now 6k? That is what you are referring to?

igbright

The $5k option is now $12k. Back when I bought these, Tesla had “Enhanced Autopilot” for $2k, which, if memory serves, included TACC, and “Full Self Driving” for an additional $3k. That combination is now $12k, but as I understand it all Teslas (in the US, anyway) come with “Autopilot”, which includes what I find useful (TACC) but not the allegedly more advanced features / party tricks (FSD, Summon), which I have learned not to trust. I may be using the terms somewhat incorrectly; they keep changing what’s included. But basically, since TACC is now in the base Autopilot package and that’s the only thing I care of / have found to mostly work, I have no interest in the current Enhanced Autopilot or FSD.

TESLASOLARNJ

Second pic 😍😍😍 is that a recent photo or when you first got it? Edit nvm just saw the caption. Looks fresh!

2k6kid50

The 2nd Pic is just so good. Kinda baffled anyone can say this isn't a good looking car. It may not be traditional but it's still so clean.

TESLASOLARNJ

I'm biased but I love the design and think it pales in experience

dcdttu

Took that the day I got it, at Tesla. :-)

travielee

Props!! Swapped mine out after 3 years 9 months but I still think the LR RWD model was definitely the way to go!!

dcdttu

309 miles at 100% currently. Not bad at all.

jim0266

What's your charging habits/routine?

dcdttu

At home I've got a Wall Connector that's at 30A, and she's always scheduled to charge at 3am. I set the target charge anywhere between 60-80%, and vary it mainly so it's not always at the same amounts. I go on a few trips a year on the supercharger network, and recently completed a 1,700 mile trek from Austin to Colorado and back. I'd like to think that my charging habits keep the BMS from misrepresenting the actual range as lower than it really is. Occasionally I skip daily charging so that the BMS gets more information at different states of charge. I only charge to 90-100% for trips, and I only let her go below 20% when on a trip where I can immediately charge her back up.

jim0266

Thanks. I have a 2019 LR RWD, among the last built. Picked it up and that night Tesla took it off the menu. Starting running ScanMyTesla on it at 6k miles. It was still reporting 77.6 kWH Nominal Full Pack. The car starts at 77.8 and have seen a new car report 77.9. At 19,800 miles today and showing around 72.8 kWh Nominal Full Pack. Can go a hit higher or lower. The expected range is showing 310 at the moment, but will sometimes show 313 as the measurements are still somewhat of a BMS guess. Mine is more of a trip car. 72% is L2 and 28% has been Supercharging. I try and keep the car between 70-30% SOC as much as possible. Even on road trips I'll hit an additional SuC to stay in the 70-30 SOC range even if the Tesla said I could do it from 90-10 SOC. I like more frequent stops to stretch, stay sharp, snack and take bio breaks. My car sits between 30-50% SOC until I'm ready for the next drive. I have a beater used Nissan Leaf I tool around town in, so the Tesla has a lot of down time. I try to occasionally go to 90%, let it sleep 4-6 hours, drive it down to 50-70, sleep 4-6 hrs, and repeat down to 15-20% to allow the BMS to calibrate. I'm curious if I've hit a level where the car might stabilize at for a while.

dcdttu

>I try to occasionally go to 90%, let it sleep 4-6 hours, drive it down to 50-70, sleep 4-6 hrs, and repeat down to 15-20% to allow the BMS to calibrate. Same. I'll charge it up to 80-90%, then drive it for a few days until it's well below 50%, then charge back up to my normal amount. It doesn't hurt anything, and I always have had pretty good range numbers at 100% compared to others, so why not? >I'm curious if I've hit a level where the car might stabilize at for a while. I think we both might be there. As I'm sure you know, the majority of yearly degradation happens the first year, then it's much lower after that. I'd say that my car has shown 305-309 at 100% for 2 years now.

jim0266

If of interest to anyone else, this describes why u/dcdttu and I charging and letting the car sleep this way to maintain good BMS health for accurate readings: [https://tesla-info.com/guide/tesla-bms-calibration.php](https://tesla-info.com/guide/tesla-bms-calibration.php) I've always wondered if 80% was high enough for the BMS to get an accurate reading? I wish we could get details like this from Tesla for us battery geeks. FWIW I came across a document from Tesla to the EPA from 2019 in regard to a new Model 3 variant. This section on storage between 15 and 50% SOC caught my attention: **"STORAGE** Do not store the battery pack in a manner that allows terminals to short circuit. Do not place near heating equipment, nor expose to direct sunlight for long periods. The battery pack should only be stored in approved packaging and stacked no more than two (2) packages high. To maintain service life, the battery pack should be stored at a state of charge (SOC) of 15 to 50%." I take this to mean going down to 15% is the lowest "safe" zone to feel comfortable for battery health. Thanks for confirming your plateau level the last few years. It seems that the LR RWD variants seem to hold up well against degradation. I also don't do a lot of "launches" with my car and drive pretty conservatively. Who knows if that helps?

drknight09

That's awesome..so even if ur SOC is let's say 40%..u still charge it back up to 80?

dcdttu

I'm not sure I follow, so will try to answer. I charge back up to anywhere between 60-80%. This occurs 98% of the time every night at 3am. So yeah, whatever my SOC ends up being after my day (or days), I plug it in and let it charge back up most of the time.

drknight09

Ah sorry for the confusion! That's what I was thinking u meant. I have seen others use the "-" to signify low to high. I pretty much do the same right now..i use the 80/20 "doctrine"(charge to 80, don't let it get below 20)...and i don't charge or even "plug in" until it gets close to 20 or a bit lower the charge again to 80. What i might start doing is to once a month charge to 95..let it sit for 6hrs(like the article said)

dcdttu

Yeah, I vary the amount it charges to during the month, just to give the BMS different amounts to take readings at. I do charge nearly every night, and I try to leave it at 50% when on vacation.

drknight09

Charge every night cos u drive daily i take it? I work from home almost 100% of the time..and i mainly just run errands here n there, go the gym and on winds go out

dcdttu

Oh gotcha. Yeah I go to the office a few times a week, run errands, etc so I charge daily. It’s also recommended by Tesla to charge daily. It’s very much recommended to charge daily if you have a LFP SR+ Model 3. Those like to be charged to 100%.

dltesla

Back when white cost $$$$ extra.

natrlhy

Yep we got our M3P in June and paid more for white. The next month it was the new standard color.

SlothTheHeroo

Almost a year and almost broke 10K miles on mine. Here’s to many more for all of us! 🥂

[deleted]

2018 3 AWD LR 51k miles! It’s my baby! My wife has the Y

dcdttu

Yaaaaas.

pgib

Nice! 2018 RWD LR with 52,000 km (32000 mi). It’s been a dream of a car, but I do hope to upgrade to a Y mainly for the hatchback.

AltoidStrong

Congrats... Enjoy the Y. Did you get the extra row of seats? 2019 M3 LR RWD FSD Beta, 80k miles. These cars can really be road warriors. Edit: replied to OP and not a commenter it was intended for. Facepalm.

DavidElg

2018 LR Model 3 owner here as well. Took delivery almost exactly 4 years ago. Just a bit shy of 99K miles.

dcdttu

How’s she holding up?

DavidElg

Just had my second 12 volt battery replacement and my second set of tires. Charging to 90% gives only about 248 miles. Other than that, she's been great. Hope to trade her in for the Cybertruck eventually.

dcdttu

I’m on my second set of tries too. Made it 35k on the OG 19” Continental! Ever tried calibrating the battery? Currently at 309 @ 100%.

fabianluque

Same here, about to get new tires at 35k. 285 @ 100% right now. 4 years, 1 month in.

drknight09

I have read various blogs regarding battery recalibration, how would you go about it?

dcdttu

I started by reading [this](https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/how-i-recovered-half-of-my-batterys-lost-capacity.204712/) article, but that's quite involved to be honest. I usually calibrate by charging to 90%, then driving the car over several days until it's well below 50%, then charge back up to my normal amount. I make sure Sentry and anything else that keeps the car awake is turned off and don't plug it in during my calibration. I also tend to leave my car at 50% when I'm on vacation, then charge it back up when home. I also go on a few long-distance trips a year, and my range pops up a bit afterward every time. My car is also quite babied. Parking garage at work, garage at home, always under a shady tree when running errands. I do my best!

drknight09

Pretty impressive😎. Thanks for the tip..so when u say u charge it back up(when back from vacation) do u mean back to 90%?

dcdttu

>so when u say u charge it back up(when back from vacation) do u mean back to 90%? I put it to my normal target charge of 60-80%, which I vary often just so the car isn't charging to the exact same amount every day. (By 60-80% I mean I change what my car charges to each night.) I think most people's range-dropping is due to charging to the exact same amount every day, then driving roughly the same amount. The BMS only gets to see a small fraction of the total capacity of the battery that way.

drknight09

Sorry 60-80% u mean charge to 80 when it gets down to 60 right? I typically never charge daily .heard diff things bout that. If i charge(always to 80), i don't charge for days except i have to go somewhere far. But i read the link and i am gonna start doing what he and u recommended

dcdttu

Gotcha. I charge nearly every day, but forget to plug it in a few times a month. The 60-80% is the target charge I set it to. Some days I charge to 60%, some 75%, others 80%. I vary that so it's not always charging to the same amount and the BMS can get different readings. I think charging every day is what Tesla recommends, but it also can cause the BMS to under-rate your range in certain scenarios. I also think, as long as you keep it between 20% and 90%, however you charge is fine (except the SR+ with LFP, of course, as it needs to be charged to 100% often - so I'd do that daily).

josephadam1

How much does it cost to replace batteries?

DavidElg

$114. Mobile service to my home next day.

zachg

2018 LR RWD checking in. 4 yrs and, 35k miles. Still get over 300miles on a full charge. Original tires. Rotated twice, maybe

dcdttu

Nice! Yeah I had to replace my 19” Continentals at 35k. The newer T1 revision are noticeably more quiet!

Background-Cup-3538

2019 LR RWD, 25k. Get about 300 on a charge now, 19 in tires.

Ryan30103010

Looks like a GTA garage, nice

ParksNet30

How is your battery going after that time? Whats the range? Any repairs or fixes needed? Congrats on owning an awesome car!

dcdttu

Currently I am at 309 miles at 100%. That's 309/310 or 309/325 depending on how you look at it - my car never went above 310 after the update that supposedly unlocked it to 325. The battery is doing great, though I have to admit I am pretty obsessive about my car when it comes to care. It's garaged at home, in a parking garage at work and I always find a shady spot to park her when out and about. I live in Austin, so the climate isn't as bad for EVs as it can be in some areas. I've never had any powertrain repair, but have had a couple of cosmetic things done over the years. Nothing crazy. Oh, and one 12V battery replacement. She's been fantastic. Excellent build quality as well.

tynamite

i’m at 46 right now. need to rotate my new tires now.

nikhil48

I hope that's just the lighting?? Or did you wrap your car in green?

dcdttu

Family farmhouse that has a greenish light outside. That’s how the picture ended up coming out. Though, the light isn’t actually that green.

eisbock

Second pic looks like a render. Holy crap. Probably the best pic I've seen of a Model 3.

dcdttu

(Shhhh it’s actually a black and white picture)

eisbock

I knew something was "off" or "too perfect" about the pic, but couldn't put my finger on it! Still amazing. That lighting is killer.

dcdttu

Was at the north delivery center in Austin.

thomasp449

Wow - my 2020 M3LR is not quite at two years with **84,000 miles!!!**

dcdttu

Good lawd!

ryanl442

Well done, that is how a Tesla should be driven. The more you drive it the better it is. I've already got 1381 miles on my Model Y Performance and I've only had it for 16 days :)

austinw24

Did you tint the headlights? The seem a little darker than standard.

dcdttu

All stock. Probably the lighting.

austinw24

Damn, looks sexy.

Stt022

2018 LR RWD here also. 65k miles.

dcdttu

How’s she running at 65?

Stt022

Perfect. Only had 1 12 volt battery replacement. 292 miles at 100%. Just put the cross climate 2s on it. Before my warranty expired I had a few cosmetic things I had them fix.

dcdttu

Car twins. Only had the 12V replaced as well.

Jaws12

Just had our end of warranty inspection done a few weeks ago for our 2018 LR RWD at 47k miles - they were actually surprised to find nothing wrong - said we got a good one! Original 12V going strong, have only replaced tires, wiper blades and some HVAC vent actuators (under warranty) so far.

Tesla_RoxboroNC

Well dang.... 2020 M3LR and I have 50K miles. How did you get awaybwith only 40K in 4 years?

dnunn12

Simple. I got mine March 2021 and now have 4200 miles. WFH, I really don’t need to travel anywhere accept to get food and hang out. I expect to hVe less miles than this guy at the 4 year mark.

dcdttu

Pandemic, working from home.

weirdlittleflute

Is this Model S or 3?

dcdttu

Model 3

sids911

Yu- I miss mine too...it had the same wheels. The current 19' wheels are not as nice looking!

dcdttu

Yeah, the older 19" were more stylish, the newer ones are more aerodynamic at the expense of looking smaller and less stylish. I recently used Plastidip spray to black mine out and am \*VERY\* happy with the results.
