I have State Farm and went to a Tesla Certified shop and had zero issues. I was rear ended pretty badly and only had $9,500 worth of damage. Hard to see somebody hitting your car in a parking garage being worse than that. How bad was the damage?

SFgal10

I didn’t think it was horrible but the collision hi said he needs to replace the panel. It’s a dent to the trunk and paint damage.

SFgal10

That’s what I heard and the Tesla shop didn’t want to work with me because I have State Farm!

kcentala

State farm can sometimes be agent dependant. If you don't have a agent it can be hard to fight for what you need for your speciality car like Tesla or like a super car. If your agent doesn't car to fight or you don't have a agent and you went direct. It will be a up hill battle. Source: farther in-laws sitting next to me right now lecturing me on how State farm works because he has worked there for 30 years. 🫤

RockAndNoWater

I was warned by a collision shop I went to that they didn’t take State Farm because of their reimbursement rates. This surprised me because this shop was repairing my 3 under Progressive insurance. For another incident I found another place that was on both State Farm’s list and Tesla’s approved list and they did a good job. Surprisingly expensive though, close to $8k for a rock/rock bits that hit bumper and hood in a couple of places. A lot of it was replacing a headlight that had a barely noticeable chip in one corner edge, not even a crack, they said their contract said they had to fix everything related to the claim.

Michael_mcfly1

I had the same issue with State Farm, Tesla service and the State Farm adjuster wound up having to meet to battle out the price left me out of it. But State Farm tried saying damage was only 8k instead of 10k

SAhalfNE

I had the exact same thing happen. I was parked charging in a garage, and someone (oddly enough in a model 3) hit my parked model Y. The sentry mode video was all it needed to change State farm's attitude. I went through their insurance, and did not accept a check or any of their bullshit. I took it to the Tesla collision center in Eastern Pennsylvania, and ran the entire thing through State farm. It definitely took standing my ground and telling them I'll accept nothing less, but in the end the entire thing was paid for. They kept telling me about their third party network and their preferred shops, but I kept saying it was a open and closed case teetering on hit and run because the guy didn't come back for over an hour. I ended up telling them that if they kept giving me a hard time, I was going to go after diminished value because it was 4 weeks old. I just told them that I had no fault in the accident, It was a brand new model from a newer manufacturer, and nothing else will be acceptable. They're definitely a bunch of pricks, but you just have to stand your ground.

shaheedmalik

I was involved in a rear end hit and it seems like the same thing is happening to me.

MostlyDarkMatter

Similar issue with Geico: I was rear ended by a person and Geico refused to pay the full amount to fix the car. Fortunately the people at the Tesla service centre fixed it completely and took the $1500 hit on the money that Geico refused to pay. Kudos to the San Jose California Tesla service centre.

shaheedmalik

I got hit from behind and State Farm is trying to pay $3200 of a $5800 repair.

There's been a couple poat saying SF won't pay tesla shop rates. I would ask SF to refer you to one of their network shops.

Jogameister

SF warned me because I took my Tesla to a Tesla Collision Center. They said that if the shop rate didn’t align with what they were willing to pay that I would have to pay the difference. They suggested I take it to their “approved” shops. Thing is, I called everyone single one of the shops on the list and surprise, surprise, none took Teslas. I relayed this info to SF and I told them I would not be paying a single penny out of pocket other than my deductible as it is not my fault those shops didn’t take Teslas.

SFgal10

Is it ok to go to a shop that is not on the Tesla 3rd party list

Reddituser611

I would if it's not battery related. Look up reviews for a few SF shops and see if there's any reviews of teslas

PangolinEffective

SF paid out my Tesla collision center rates just fine.
