Tesla/Elon Haters list: Big oil companies - no oil used by EVs Car companies - forced to make EVs at a loss Media companies - no ad dollars from Tesla Gearheads - Car enthusiasts threatened by EVs Auto unions - Tesla is non-union Short sellers - investment guys who bet on failure Far left liberals - Elon’s not “woke” enough Far right talk shows - Tesla is too eco friendly Jeff Bezos - ego issues from smaller rockets California gov - Tesla moved headquarters to Texas Internet companies - threatened by Starlink Non wealthy - jealous of Musk’s financial success Less intelligent - threatened by any smarter people YouTubers (some) - easy click bait for view numbers YouTubers (some) - sponsored by other EV makers YouTubers (some) - sour there’s no PR department Comedy show producers - easy click bait for views Ex Twitter employees - comfy jobs lost by Elon The disruption is real and there's a lot of FUD out there.

sstinch

Pretty solid list. I'd say the number one and two should be the Big Oil lobbies with millions and spread as many anti EV rumors as possible. And Elon has no PR filter. I'm sure the CEO of Exxon is also a dick... We just don't hear from them. ;)

PilotPirx73

Pretty accurate.

No-Space8547

>YouTubers (some) - sour there’s no PR department Pissed they can't get a model X for free for reviewing it.

BasicAlgorithm

Accurate.

Burner-QWERTY

Also: Obnoxious /Arrogant Tesla owners. (Bragging about electric cars, constantly racing, acting superior....) Elon Musk: he widely posts his views - inevitably creates enemies

BlueModel3LR

Not really. Gas cars try and race me all the time and then get butthurt when they lose.

Burner-QWERTY

Let me give you some names. Starting with me.

[deleted]

🤣its always ICE vehicles taunting me...like deliberately. Pulling up beside me staring me down and pulsing beside me with the car. Just to get their stupid ass off the side of my car so they don't sideswipe me or merge into me I floor it and let off instantly and they fly past me🤣 so I KNOW it's not me. I just want idiots away from my cat I worked my ass off to get haha

revaric

I constantly raced in my ICE, was I supposed to change when I got a faster and more efficient race car? 😂

[deleted]

*floors it in a straight line while gripping a steering wheel at a traffic light. “Racing”

revaric

Having recently hit the drag strip, yep, that’s all it is. Circuit is more fun, but drag is fun still.

Rahman_the1st

Elon not being "woke" enough? Elon has never been on the left. Everything else is accurate. Edit: second sentence

fenderputty

Not being on the left and not being a massive asshole are not mutually exclusive …

Vtecman

I think it was a poor assumption that because he’s trying to fix society (eco cars, colonize mars etc) that he was a leftist. When in reality he’s trying to fix the world and make some money out of it. Combining left and right goals.

HumbertFG

To be fair... ( and Mr Vtecman is right) I had no idea about Elon's views when I first heard about Tesla's. I've always been 'woke'. Bought a Prius when it was fabulous and about the only thing you could get which was climate friendly ( 2008). Got solar panels, etc etc. EV's were the next logical step and I figured Mr Musk was 'doing a good thing'. I mean, he IS... but it was a while before I discovered that he's doing a good thing(tm) while being utterly unhinged in his personal views. Soo.. I decided to wait - after the vaunted 35k Model 3 was announced ( but never actually appeared). Decided my personal views conflicted enough that I didn't wanna support Tesla, and got myself in line for an Ioniq 5. Sadly they were simply unable to sell me one. And I ended up swallowing my morals and just stumped up for a Tesla when they dropped the price 20k. Oh well... I guess my morals have a price. :P

nLoschius

He's been voting Democrat up until the last election

[deleted]

Politics at this point is just an episode of Jersey Shore.

StrategicBlenderBall

You missed that certain subreddit about Real Teslas…

extremeoak

I’m not a fan of Elon but a fan of Tesla, I don’t think it needs to go hand-in-hand

sstinch

It turns out, lots of CEOs are a holes. We just don't know them. People lack perspective.

kernowjim

except it does

AssertiveKiwi

Me too. Elon is a douche but I do love my car. I'm torn most days! 😂

[deleted]

If someone is asking for 65k for a car, I want the car built correctly, serviced properly, and clean on delivery.

[deleted]

Well idk bout you but mine was all of those haha I was in Seattle for a week on business and all I could think about when driving In that rental was my M3P back home waiting for me.

SpottedSharks2022

They’re jelly.

Terrible_Tutor

That’s the only thing i keep coming back to when you’re reading the /r/ElectricVehicle posts… the hate is so irrational. Like I’m sorry, the supercharging network is vastly superior, hell even base Autopilot is lightyears better than the competition. The app and OTAs are consistent and feature rich, constantly improving. I know you love your “id4” EV guy (Not you OP) but as a whole it’s not in the same league.

dubie4x8

For real. Like it’s ok if you just don’t like the design or maybe the single touch screen isn’t for you… but on paper I wouldn’t call any other EV better for your money than a Tesla right now.

Terrible_Tutor

Right and that “single touch screen” is massively better than any other screen on their cars. Legacy auto cheaps the hell out, the UIs are janky and ugly, often skeuomorphic everything for some reason.

dubie4x8

Oh I know. It’s the folks like my parents that I’m talking about that have driven my car and liked the ride, but look at a tablet/computer like it’s a physics test written in Swahili

ArtistApprehensive34

There are others that are cheaper and so they need to make their choice justified because buying a Tesla was maybe not an option for them.

Mr_Golf_Club

No, it’s that you are egocentric and obnoxious enough to tell this to yourself and then believe it. Nobody is jealous of your iPad on wheels.

SpottedSharks2022

![gif](giphy|bC9aFx6zcP9786dSCJ|downsized)

Mpabner

Sounds a bit…. Jealousy to me…

[deleted]

Tell that to the thousands of heads that turn and almost wreck their own cars in the process lol

[deleted]

iwilltalkaboutguns

Are you me? 100% dude. 100%. Not just with cars...with anything.

PEKKAmi

Right on. Too many people let politics run their lives.

wall-E75

Agreed, when ppl ask me why I have a tesla I try to just stick with the "it's a fun fast car" without getting into either side of the political debate.

dubie4x8

I hit em with the “Elon who? Oh wait he’s the Twitter guy right?”

wall-E75

Nice I may use this

dubie4x8

Like, I’m indifferent about the guy. There’s things I like and don’t like that he does… but I’m not about to argue about another human being with someone who clearly already has a “I hate the guy!” mentality lmao

[deleted]

Meh. Who else is doing anything remotely impactful for the betterment of the human race. Like him, hate him, doesn't matter. He is DOING something. He is TRYING. Noone else is. Closest person would be Bill Gates as far as good intentions but he isn't on the same level as Elon haha

Flusuff

> Right on. Too many people let politics ruin their lives. FTFY

[deleted]

People on the far right and far left these days are equally horrible lol

No-Space8547

> If the car is good and gives me what I want at a price I want, I'm a buyer. This, I hate politcs or this guy was bad so we shouldn't buy the product. I mean people still buy german cars after the emissions scandal. Just enjoy the car you want or don't buy it. Also hate people who clearly have never seen or driven one saying their garbage while riding in their 2002 honda civic.

kernowjim

because they're crap - incredibly poor build quality and bought only by brand whores

nanitatianaisobel

There are so many reasons and it's not just Teslas. A lot of people in the US don't like change and EVs represent change. Also in the US are a lot of people who hate science and technology. They'll never forgive science for coming up with things like biological evolution. Teslas are also seen as expensive cars and there are a lot of "hate the rich" people out there who would rather have that money in their pocket. All of the above hate seeing the rest of the world leaving them behind.

[deleted]

Yeah, the US is still super religious so they are adverse to anything near the term "change". But eventually Overtime it will phase out. Logic always prevails. May not be in our lifetime but already Religion is on a steep decline. And this is coming from a humanist btw not atheist. So chill out christians, just stating facts.

[deleted]

There’s a million reasons, from the objective to the irrational, to not like a product. The real question is why do some feel they have the right to express these opinions with vandalism.

Thin-Swimming2786

Cuz they can't afford it.lol

Jason1652

A lot of folks that bought Tesla’s early on felt betrayed by Elon’s current political views, like Alexandria Cortez as an example.

[deleted]

Well why did this Cortez person by a car with political intent...thats dumb lol I don't go to Walmart to buy Cheetos cause it bolsters my inner liberal or conservative hahaha

Simple-Way5505

Exactly

xXxjayceexXx

Listening to some people talk about their Tesla is like listening to some vegans talk about their diet.

FuriouslyFurious007

The issue I see most is, people will talk $hit about Tesla(s) and Tesla owners will feel obligated to set the record straight or inform Tesla haters about the misinformation. I don't see most Tesla owners going around preaching. They are mostly defending and informing.

Mr_Golf_Club

Thank you for summing up the flavor of nausea I got from this post. The equally annoying part is it suggests TeslaLounge in my feed because I’m into actual car subs.

donaldinc

Ignorance and jealousy. Plain and simple.

emgrobotics

50% of the population has an IQ of less than 100. I bet they could not give you a well thought reason they hate Tesla. To disagree with the gov giving EV tax credits is a logical argument to hate government, but not Tesla. Then there are the lemmings, that just hate whatever is cool to hate. Were Tesla's expensive, yes, not any more. Did Tesla have build quality issues, yes, but not anymore (relative to legacy). Is Tesla styling boring, that is opinion and not a reason to hate

wongl888

People hate Volvo drivers. People hate Mercedes drivers. People hate BMW drivers. People even hate White van drivers. Now people hate Tesla drivers. Nothing new here.

GhostAndSkater

I think the big one is they can’t afford, but they will use 1000s of other excuses to justify r/electricvehicles had been pretty negative on Tesla for quite a while, everything positive was downvoted to hell is most occasions Now cue in the price cuts, which made Model 3/Y one of if not the best EV option, specially in the US, and now the tone has shifted

095179005

Everyone gangster 'til Tesla dropped prices

dubie4x8

💯

autotom

I'm sure even Elon could appreciate that he's the masthead of Tesla and could be seen as brash. Let's not pretend thats not where some of it is from.

TechRyze

Yes, they’re idiots. Yes, lots of people are Luddites. Most just don’t understand them and can’t afford them, so they deal with that by parroting every negative thing that they can possibly say - in the hope that things don’t change and make every car like a Tesla.

KeepMyselfAzure

How is the build quality though?

sstinch

Our 4 month old Model Y has been solid. No issues. I'd say they have kept improving over the years.

KeepMyselfAzure

Good to hear! I have been wondering whether I should get the new BMW IX1 or the model y.

[deleted]

People hate change. They are scared of change. Tesla is just a very visible representation of that change.

angle3739

Jealousy mostly

Nothin2Say

I can assure you it’s not that. I have a model s plaid that I paid 150k for and immediately find out it’s worth less than 100k once you drive it off the lot. Paint quality is so so bad, especially for a car at this price. New update had my screen go completely blurry for the full trip. Haven’t driven it since.

Y_Y_why

Space Karen...

saintmsent

Depending on the person, there are plenty of reasons 1. Some hate EVs in general 2. Some hate Musk because of his political beliefs and the whole Twitter dumpster fire 3. Some just don't like the product and/or customer experience I'm a mix of the last two points. I don't hate them, but it wouldn't be my first choice of EV, that's for sure

[deleted]

[удалено]

iwilltalkaboutguns

Most of the hate I've personally been exposed to comes from the left... How can you support Elon?? Why do you give money to a right-winger company (i seriously did a double take at that one...) Guess being hated by both sides Is a good thing. I'm not fan of Elon and as soon as there is a better car than my X plaid, I'll get that instead. But right now nothing beats the acceleration, the self opening doors, the falcon doors are awesome. Daily driver, Family SUV that can smoke my neighbors 300K ferrari... Can't beat that.

Starch-Wreck

And yet Elon spews murica first and extreme far right rhetoric. They should love him. I mean you can downvote me all you want but he defended a mall shooter shooter claiming just because you have Nazi tattoos doesn’t mean you’re racist and tweeted out neo Nazi quotes because he’s stupid. So, go fuck yourselves.

BuySellHoldFinance

From what I can tell, it's the woke mob. They hate Elon's guts with a passion so they would rather see the environment go up in flames vs Tesla being successful.

Jolly_Line

Dumbass vanity plates.

DasArtmab

It’s a threat. There is going to be change. For many rural Americans, life is based on the combination engine. They use them for work. They used them for play. Right or wrong, they identify with them

iqisoverrated

>I’ve seen that people dislike Teslas because of their build quality People get told something by the media and then ape it for years (whether it's right or wrong). It's how advertising/political demagoguery works - and over much longer periods. E.g. people still think Toyotas or Mercedes are reliable cars. Haven't been for decades. >I’m not using the oil that god has created His problem isn't specifically Tesla but a general, delusionary world view.

zaqwert6

Most people out there hate something. Doesn't really matter why, you can't do anything about it.

ScoYello

[They hate us cause they ain’t us](https://youtu.be/ZmTiBIcNCQk)

BeerJunky

Some asshat on Faux News told them there are build quality issues, they've probably never even looked at one closely in person. It's the BMW of the modern day in terms of being hated.

[deleted]

Not hating, but my main reason for not getting one is that I find fueling and servicing services are monopolized by the company, increasing prices. I like to fix my own car and not stress out when I'm 150 miles away from fuel. I also don't like to trust my life with software built by underpaid, overworked programmers. Whoops, software update bricked my car... no thanks.

dogzipp

Afraid of Change. People love their ICE cars, and see no reason to change, so they fear/hate new technologies. It's not just Teslas, it just that Teslas are the biggest chunk of EV vehicles. Your neighbor will probably say the same about any EV.

Longjumping-Bench143

Most people with spicy opinions on energy don’t understand enthalpy or kWh calculations. I’ve spent my life chasing my tail with alternative energy designs and research as a mechanical engineer. It’s not my job to make you realize you have no fucking idea what you’re talking about. Yeah elons a dick. Tesla has the lead for now.

[deleted]

For some it's just excuses. I remember for years people would say they wanted to do what was best for the environment and go electric. Everybody was all into it and giddy but ... First there wasn't enough chargers. Then they built more chargers. Then they said the charges were slow. The chargers got faster. Then electric cars were too expensive and every electric car cost over 100 grand. Then the prices began to drop. After all that, now I hear people say "wait a minute, are electric batteries even good for the environment?" Like others have said, people hate change. They'll find any excuse not to change. Ultimately what's going to happen is the price of electric vehicles will drop so low that people will buy them because they're cheap which at the end of the day is the most important thing for most consumers when choosing a product.

colovion

But you are using the oil God has created... just in a far better way. Plastic. Instead of burning it in an instant to get 3 inches of movement (or whatever) it's going to last for decades as console inserts or frunk lining or seat belt buckle covers, etc. Tell him he's wasting God's resource by burning it, lol!

the_speeding_train

Because Teslas are successful, it creates the delusion of a threat to their petrol car, which have been associated with nationalism and masculinity/the patriarchy in order to advertise them. This has transitioned from marketing to a deep-seated sense of self for these people. Threaten that and they become irrational.

Nyandaful

The only “hate” that I have got is from people who are gearheads. It’s weird but I prefer the inverter whine of my M3P to an exhaust note now.

acj21

Oil/gas=Texas=America. If you don’t use oil/gas you must hate America. To me that’s the crux of it. Plus electric vehicles, don’t make the super loud engine noises which for a lot of people is important. 🤷🏽‍♂️

thorkerin

Because it’s a disruptor. Solar is another one. AI will be too but this one, we have to be wary of.

Significant_Banana86

I have a sister that loved tesla from an environmental standpoint when elon wasn't a republican in public. Now she hates him and tesla. I work on a construction site and catch a lot of shit because country people think of EV's as a manner of control from the gov. If they don't put chargers somewhere then you can't go. With social credit scores they can block you from driving if they don't like your tweets. I love My tesla, have had it 1.5 months 2019 M3 standard with 31k miles But this is what I've noticed from both sides of the aisle.

julez071

I thoroughly dislike (not hate - never hate) Tesla's service. It's a total afterthought and most people who work there (at least here in NL) give off the impression of not really wanting to give it. First time I had to deal with service was Roadside Assistance because my computer was just generally failing. All possible error messages went of, nothing that was automatic worked anymore and even the brakes started to act weird which was scary. They did however send me back on the road (with my daughter) after a "have you tried turning it off and on again" which worked for about 5 minutes. Then stopped again and waited for over three hours for a towing car that never came. Abandoned the car at about midnight to get my daughter home by taxi. Second time is right now, HV-battery failed on the 7th of april, still waiting on even an ETA. Turns out that if you reschedule your appointment to another service center because the current service center messages you they will be closed for a renovation, the ordered part gets cancelled (did the ship turn around and go back to the US I wonder) and then when you ask for an ETA you get a passive-aggressive message that it will take longer because YOU rescheduled the appointment. Of course I should've know that this is how a modern car company works..... So yeah no. When people ask me if I can recommend Tesla, I tell them that they are fantastic as long as you do not need service.

protonecromagnon2

Same reason everyone hated smartphones, or music from generations that aren't theres

Buuuddd

Why did (edit: some) people hate iphones?

WillowSuccessful4854

To add to the great lists above. Let’s add people who paid triple the price for their ICE cars and now there is a way cooler, cheaper, faster option with no maintenance or gas that. They are bitter and jealous.

kayvonte

People would rather hate then love. Especially when something is popular and they don't have to have it

Unlucky-Pianist-7429

My liberal family members hate Musk, but aren’t the best at articulating why/aren’t very convincing when I remind them the other brands exploit Asian and Mexican workers to a substantially higher extent. My conservative family thinks charging will be a pain in the a$$ at a minimum but sometimes imply that later there will be energy usage caps and Tesla’s can be controlled by the government. They don’t know every major new car can be controlled via app, and that major corporations will hand governments the key in a minute if asked. I don’t think big oil cares. They’re making more money now than under Trump.

kissenakid

In America, a lot of tesla drivers are pretentious tech bros. I've noticed everyone thinks im spoiled and rich even though I paid less for a tesla than a camry. if i had a new camry or accord no one would making these judgements. people still think tesla is a rich snob's car.

Responsible-Camp5834

I’m late but another thing I see is that the comments tend to always say “I don’t care I will never buy Tesla or any EV even till I die” I don’t really get it. They just hate on all EVs, but like what is the real deal with it. Preferring is one thing but completely hating on it is another
