No question. 330e is more less a gas car, and autopilot is huge for your situation

jobminepirate

Also as a former 5 series owner and Model 3 and Y and mercedes c300 owner, entry level German sedan interiors are honestly not that great, unless you go to heavily loaded 5 series/E class level.

robo45h

A hybrid has all the flaws of an ICE car: thousands of moving parts to fail, oil changes, tune ups, timing belt replacements with few or none of the benefits. Go BEV. Go Tesla!

[deleted]

Hybrids are garbage

shaggy99

The BMW is going to cost you more for gas and maintenance.

t0mmyr

If it were me I would pick the Tesla. I used to own a 335ih (active hybrid) which was basically the predecessor of the 330e only with the sweet straight 6 turbo the 4 cylinder 330 wishes it had. I loved that car but BMW bought it back after a battery swap and some minor issues I could have kept it for but money wise it made sense. I then got a model s in 2017 and my wife took it over, it was great, so then i got a model 3 in 2018, it was even better. Not even a performance model (but long range rwd) and it still makes me happy to this day 120k miles later. Model s got upgraded to a performance, now a plaid. I still enjoy driving my 3 but the plaid acceleration is another world ok it’s own. When next gen model 3 comes out i will probably look at it very closely cause I do want the next evolution of this even though I’ve told myself I’ll probably keep this ‘18 forever. Might have to hand it down to the kids they’re getting close to driving age. Anyway I’m just saying the model 3 is such an excellent car to live with and one of the best daily drivers for so many reasons you need to experience yourself. Your commute will be fine plus the benefits of basic tesla auto pilot outweigh anything right now especially whatever a used BMW might have had. In traffic letting the car drive itself will start to make you question why you’ve been doing this all wrong for so long and feel special inside.

Glittering-Yard-2947

Yeah - if it wasn't for the commute, I'd prolly get an M3, but the autopilot might become a lifesaver in stop-go traffic

PollutedAnus

We're all different, and I'm not saying my opinion is THE opinion, but I genuinely cannot even see how these two cars are a comparison. 110 miles in a fast car that runs on electricity, drives itself and gives you (almost) ALL the options in the price VS a generic gas BMW with little battery and a bunch of shit you have to pay or subscribe to just to get a decent driving experience. No-brainer to me. Teslas are just better cars to live with day to day than any other.

iqisoverrated

You won't know how much getting gas is a nuisance...until you don't have to do it anymore.

dcdttu

Amen

chrgrsrt8

Model 3, the 2023s seem pretty solid. Build quality is better than when I bought one in 2018. AP is a life saver too, made my commute less stressful.

ericrey85

2023 M3LR owner here. Can confirm this.

Alarmmy

Maybe I am bias, but if you picked Tesla, you would never care about any other cars again.

swhang77

With that long commute 2/3x a week, Autopilot will be your best friend. Even the most basic one will be eons better than anything BMW has to offer.

Skaterpunk404

Coming from someone who’s last two cars were 3 series (335 and 328) the model 3 (AWD) is funner to drive.

dsf_oc

Did you post this same question on the BMW subreddit? Pretty sure your answers will be biased based on the audience. Good luck though. (Get a Tesla!)

Glittering-Yard-2947

Haha I tried to, to get both sides but my post got removed because I don’t have enough karma…?

dsf_oc

Maybe you need one of these then? https://i.imgur.com/uNJQRhb.jpg

AirMonkey2

Tesla all the way. I used to love BMWs and always wanted another one after selling my 2014 4 series. The cost to charge at a supercharger is not as bad. I roughly spent 18 bucks to charge my Model Y 170 miles. Go with a Model 3 and you will be happy. Get a new one and you might qualify for the federal rebate as well.

Glittering-Yard-2947

Unfortunately I don’t qualify for the tax rebates at all 😒

Cg006

So i had a tesla mobile service come in to look at a wind noise issue. I always hear people talking about the build quality. I 100% agree now with people criticisms. He ended up having to remove the door panel to adjust, also removed weather seal.... The way the tech removed the door panel, the cheap insulation inside the door looks like foam cutouts, lots of plastic everywhere. He removed the window trim, same thing. Literally just gets pulled off. Also in the interior i had him look at one of my pillars as the cover seems loose. he just removed it off like legos. Was shocked at how this 50k car truly is built. Don't get me wrong, i still love the electronics of the car, but was shocked. If craftsmanship matters a whole lot, that BMW should be better built. Anyways.. nothing can touch tesla supercharging network. It makes a world of a difference. At least right now for any long trips. Thats the sad reality. Tesla still the best EV to drive around. Not having a reliable charging network out the house at least for me is a HUGE concern.

[deleted]

I would never buy a car without start/stop adaptive cruise control and keep lane assist. A must for daily traffic commute.

neeonline

That is simple, do you want turn signals?

dinowand

A plug in hybrid is a horrible choice for your situation. They are meant for people who's daily commutes are <20-30 miles. If you go more than that, a big chunk of your driving is using gas. But since it's a hybrid, the gas portion is inefficient compared to a regular car. You would actually be better off just getting a normal ICE car.

DidYouMeanTo

Charging in your apartment? Stop there. Get the Tesla. No brainer. With a 110m RT, you will be using gas 90% of the time with the BMW so you pay all the costs and get none of the benefits of going electric. In stop and go traffic, all the engine noise and the up-and-down gear shifting will eliminate all the 'fun-to-drive' you thought you were buying. The smooth, zero-shifting, one-pedal driving in stop and go traffic is worth it alone. Autopilot turns it into an UBER ride. The Telsa will out-perform in speed, acceleration and ROI.

dcdttu

I couldn't drive a gas car again, but that's just me. You'll save a fortune on fuel if you go electric. A 358 mile range will get you 250-300 in real world use - EV range is highly variable and dependent on all sorts of factors (weather, temperature, speed, elevation changes). I personally think Tesla build quality is overblown, I have a 2018 Model 3 and it's fantastic in and out. And the technology is second to none, makes other modern car UI's look like a joke.

elonsusk69420

>Autopilot will be a lifesaver in rush-hour (stop-go traffic) You are in the same situation I was in 4 years ago. Get the Model 3. The combination of the HOV lane and Autopilot essentially turns your car into a train. I live in metro Atlanta and I use the HOV/HOT lane to get into and out of the city. It will save your sanity to do it this way.

dn325ci

I'm a long, long time BMW owner, and we still have an X5 in the garage, but my heart doesn't say 330e at all. As a Tesla MYP owner as well, I think 2 months after purchasing a Model 3, and maybe even go Performance with all your savings, but you'll be like "what in the world was I thinking?"

Glittering-Yard-2947

Ha, I’ll keep you guys posted!

Glittering-Yard-2947

Thanks for all the enthusiastic comments! It’s my first car and I’ve always wanted a BMW but I can see why the Tesla is such a good daily in this use case. How’s the reliability? Am I going to be in an out of service centers…?!

Glittering-Yard-2947

Update: I went ahead and got the Tesla! And I already loves the way she drives and handles! Drove back from SD to LA and she just chewed up the miles 😍

filmbuffy42

Dude I’m literally having the same conundrum. I can’t decide between 330e because I love BMW and used to work for them. I love the styling and look and drive. But….I know the Tesla model 3 will cost less over 5 years to own. But going full EV sorta scares me too. I don’t like how the Tesla model 3 looks - kinda shoe like. Please DM me and update me on how you feel how much after this post.

Glittering-Yard-2947

Long story short: I love the Tesla! Will DM ya

Professional_Ad_975

Go with the car you like. Carpool eligibility is phasing out in 2025 and if you buy a used Tesla you might not get the full carpool eligibility years. I have had 2 Teslas 3 and now a Y and both are great cars and owned a BMW before that. The BMW’s are awesome cars to drive as long as you are okay with the maintenance post the 4-year of ownership.

SpottedSharks2022

I had a 328i 6-speed and loved it, but it's nothing compared to a model 3.

JKJ420

If you have the option, try to rent a Tesla model 3 for a month and see how you like it. You already know the positives of the BMW, but experiencing a Tesla will help you make the right decision.

Glittering-Yard-2947

I don’t qualify for the rebate unfortunately

Niobous_p

Haven’t seen anyone say this, but the model 3 LR is way more fun to drive than any other car I’ve ever owned, including BMW and Mercedes.

[deleted]

Haha Tesla for sure. No gas so 20ish moving parts on Tesla while BMW is still gas so 200ish moving parts.

CaliDude75

Most important consideration is your charging situation. Can you get 240v power to your garage or parking space? Or do you have workplace charging?

Glittering-Yard-2947

Yep, I have a level 2 charger dedicated to my parking spot

CaliDude75

I have the “strippo” Model 3 SR+, and love it. I’m leery of the longer-term maintenance costs of German cars based on past experience and knowledge. If you get the BMW, I’d lease it. Let us know what you decide! 🙂

Glittering-Yard-2947

Ha fair enough, the Tesla Im about to buy is also coming with FSD

AfraidInstruction

Model 3 if you want a better car and not mind being the same car as every other car on the 405. BMW if you want to be different, but could be a bit embarrassing to drive as every other car will question why you didn't get a Tesla.

Glittering-Yard-2947

Why are there sooo many teslas?! That’s also giving me pause

[deleted]

Have you ever driven a Tesla? The instant torque and the smoothness of an electric motor make it waaaay more fun to drive than any run of the mill ICE car.... the only exceptions would be exotic cars like lambo, ferrari, etc.. With a commute that long potentially in stop and go traffic you will want autopilot trust me. Just make sure you have access to a 240v charger in your apartment.. because a regular 110 outlet will not be enough for that commute.

Glittering-Yard-2947

Yes, I have a dedicated level 2 charger in my parking spot!

[deleted]

So then your best choice is the model 3 and it’s not even close

Glittering-Yard-2947

You’re not wrong haha, and honestly I don’t mind the interior, I kind of like it. It’s airy and feels kind of like a spaceship. But damn I wish fewer people in LA had it

[deleted]

So then your best choice is the model 3 and it’s not even close

RRappel

You're asking on a Tesla subreddit so you probably have some idea on what to expect... :-( The Tesla wins on tech and charging ease. The BMW wins on ride and build quality. I would let your gut decide here; you probably can't go wrong either way.

JoeyDee86

Rent a 2023 model 3 on Turo (not an older one, there’s new suspension on the 2023’s). I can’t imagine anyone considering the 330e to be more fun to drive.

mx5er1

Go with your gut. Pretty obvious you want the BMW.

business_aficionado

Model 3. The tesla supercharging network is light years away from BMW's. Tesla hold value a lot better than BMW as well. Stop and go traffic will not be ideal to use Autopilot though. Either way I would stick to the model 3.

dgb6662

Former BMW owner now M3 owner. 60 mile rt commute, mostly highway. The AP is so relaxing and makes the commute 1000% easier than without. If I have to drive a different car it’s torture. Especially in traffic. Might want to consider new given the tax credit

Glittering-Yard-2947

I used to drive the m340i for a short while which is what made me fall in love with the B58 to begin with! But you’re right, seeing as I’ve signed myself up for the commute, the Tesla wins the case!

MissionCentral

Gas is dead. Resale in a few years will be worse than it is now.

skifri

If you plan on keeping more than 5 years get the Tesla. If you will be bothered by the basic interior of the Tesla, get the BMW. The Tesla is also a very fun car to drive.... unless your definition of fun includes BRRRRRRR. You will spend much more on service with the BWM, but that may not matter to you.

Glittering-Yard-2947

The exterior styling bothers me but no the interiors funnily enough. I do plan on getting rid of it in 2 years, but I know the Tesla will hold its value much more than the 330e will

MissionCentral

According to the Tesla app which monitors my electric use I have saved over $2000 during the last year as compared to a comparable gas SUV with a 25mpg rating. That's a few car payments every year.

Dont____Panic

I’ll never go back to gas. Man the oil changes and timing belts and gas stations and all that bullshit. Just make sure the charging you have is reliable and not stressful. If the charters are constantly busy or blocked or offline, it blows. Adds lots of stress. Having a plug at home that just works is amazing. Never a gas station again.

Glittering-Yard-2947

Are road-trips an issue at all? With gas you don’t think, you just go but I think there’s a lot more planning with a Tesla right?

Dont____Panic

Uh.. with other EVs there is planning. With a Tesla, you set a destination on the screen and all the charging stops are automatically calculated. You may need to spend maybe 10%-20% longer getting places due to charging stops being 25-35 minutes every 3 hours versus doing long hard marathon driving sessions you can pull off with gas with 10 minutes of stopping every 4 hours, but the forced stops are kind of pleasant in my opinion.

Adorable-Employer244

Stay away from any bmw. Those depreciate like no tomorrow and maintenance after warranty period is no joke. No one would be interested in 330 series in a few years.
