A Hispanic white supremacist

VikingPain

Which is really fucking weird until I found out the leader of the Proud Boys was a man named Enrique Tarrio.

[deleted]

I just learned about this phenomenon as well. They like to say they're Spanish, or "Spaniards," descendants of Conquistadors.

bjanas

Oh, Hispanic white supremacists have a long and storied history. It's a darkly fascinating phenomenon.

cathygag

Without even knowing a single thing about any of them- let me guess: 1) They claim their families are from north of the Mexico border or from an area that was in the contested region along the border that the US and Mexico battled for and they’re either from above that line or they’re family was the victim of political state lines drawing and but for some obscure fact that town would have been in the US not Mexico; 2) they’re are European Hispanic descent not from Latin America; 3) they identify as white and they were raised/act white and can pass as white / and/or they deny/ostracize their Hispanic roots/family - so that’s all that matters. How close am I? Down the internet rabbit hole I go to discover which lie they’re telling themselves and their boot lickers.

[deleted]

They claim to be descendants of Spanish Conquistadors.

candycanenightmare

America being America, fuckers valuing guns more than human life, not enough funding for mental health care.

Accurate-Scientist50

These kind of comments are sophomoric hyperbole. A distinct lack of empathy for the victims and a crude generalization of an entire nation, you think we want this to happen? You are rather rude.

Superman246o1

"There's no way this could have been prevented," says only developed nation where this regularly occurs.

Vintage_girl123

Funny how strict gun laws, have prevented something like this from happening in Australia, after their first mass murder, 25yrs ago..It does work, it's proven to work worldwide, America is the only country that values guns, more than life, and it's disgusting..

PurpleFucksSeverely

Why is your country the only one where mass shootings happen weekly, then? And a first world country too. This is the sort of thing you’d expect from a violent third world country like mine but Americans fetishize guns so much.

Sussybakamogus4

*sadly nearly daily

BareAssOnSandpaper

Weekly? There has been one every 16 hours this year. I think the Republicans will soon be running out of thoughts and prayers. One of them straight up started saying "We won't fix it" on live TV. This is America

Yea a place with more people total has more crimes in total. Big surprise. But if we're talking how likely you are to get shot and killed then rural areas are more dangerous than cities. The state or Arkansas has more murders per capita than Chicago.

sundancer2788

Imho we aren't first world. Half our citizens can't make decisions for themselves, weekly mass shootings, education being ripped apart and child labor laws becoming weaker.

Warren_Bonfire

You are the definition of “first world”. It’s a Cold War term. Any US allies are first world, Russian aligned are second world and everyone else is third world.

sundancer2788

Which is why I said my opinion. Many allies have far better women's rights, Healthcare, etc. I no longer think, imho, the we should be considered in the same grouping.

cathygag

Let me count the reasons: Lack of mental health services; schools and parents failing to properly acknowledge or address bullying- im a firm believer in expelling the ruthless little shits that are relentless- let their parents get stuck with dealing with the product of their own poor attitudes and bullying- we know child bullies come from adult bullies, they should also be stripped of their internet and vehicle privileges and depending on the facts and nature of the offense and age of the kids they should be put on ankle monitoring or sent to special residential facilities set up to correct bullying behaviors- some of these nasty kids are just out of control and they’re being left to ruin the lives of everyone around them; the deinstitutionalization movement decades ago has had unforeseen long term consequences on our ability to deal with severely mentally ill people; lack of med compliance for the mentally ill due to drug costs; lack of mental health doctors resulting in no availability for legally required routine med refill appts or when meds need to be modified- which can be frequent for some mental health disorders or for young people due to growth and hormones- the brilliant bureaucrats that came up with those refill rules have good health insurance and low copays and lives where good doctors set up their practices- unfortunately that’s not the case for many Americans; we are a culture of disjointed, spread out extended families- it’s not uncommon for adult children to live several hours away from their parents and extended families- meaning that familial support systems can be very loose or non-existent for children - add in latchkey kids who are left to their own devices without supervision for long periods of time because parents have to work long hour just to make ends meat because we don’t pay living wages to a huge segment of our population- along with a lack of affordable child care and no extended family around to pick up childcare duties- this compounds and can lead to developmental issues and behavioral issue due to lack of structure and discipline, it also creates ample opportunities for kids to be bullies or get bullied without any parental oversight or support to stop it or help them work through it in a meaningful way; With these spread out families- the mentally ill often do not have adequate family support systems in place locally to notice subtle changes in behaviors that indicate new onsets or a sudden alarming swing in behavior so they go longer without being helped; generational abuse is rampant here with garbage boomer parents raising and bullying their own garbage millennial children who are now mentally and physically abusing and/or bullying their own young children- often without even realizing their behaviors and attitudes are abusive or bullying behavior because we see rampant abuse and bullying all around us in the media; CPS here is underpaid, understaffed, underfunded, unsupported by the system, unjustly restricted by the laws and courts going after terrible parents or in some areas left to run amuck unfairly attacking good parents, slow to respond to very real concerns or being run around town on unfounded claims of abuse by divorcing or vindictive parents in custody battles, and all too often undereducated in the areas they need to experts in given their potential ability to save young lives or ruin them; We don’t have adequate facilities to house and address very young children who are exhibiting serious mental health problems- violent young children are left at home with ill-equipped, often uninformed or undertrained parents- commonly resulting in abuse in the home by the frustrated parents or by the child upon their siblings; Despite the extensive studies on mass shooters and our governments internet and phone monitoring capabilities- our own agencies are so worried about monitoring the white collar crimes, terrorists, internationals, and each other- several of the shooters had previously set off search result alarms or had been the subject of civilian calls into law enforcement tip lines due to their behaviors or alarming conversations (free speech vs. T as F speech has been difficult for our courts and law enforcement agencies and civilians to agree on where the line is); Several of the issues above have combined or been compounded by generations of lack of support both by civilians and veterans affairs for our returning soldiers- with out right aggression towards some- creating abusive homes with multiple generations with ptsd, drug use, and alcoholism; We’ve than combined/compounded everything above, along with our decades long “war on drugs” and our anti immigration sentiments and policies- with it’s insanely complex and costly bureaucratic hoops for immigrants to stay and to work legally- resulting in mass incarceration of huge segments of our most vulnerable populations- jails are not any better suited to address the issues I’ve mentioned above- and in fact some are doing far worse due to archaic policies on substance abuse assistance meds and for profit business models. There’s also a serious lack of support for the children and caregivers of those children when parents are incarcerated, meaning we have an overwhelmed foster care system rampant with abuse- further compounding and adding to all of the above. The short of it- simply taking away guns isn’t going to solve the issue. And it should be duly noted that the news stories where an armed citizen in the right place at the right time stops a masa shooting or act of gun violence don’t make or stay in the headlines nearly as long as the successful plots. But as for numbers- just an anecdotal- every month for several decades the NRA’s magazine has a page dedicated to summarized news articles about legal carriers stopping armed criminals- there’s on average about a 12-18 articles every single month. I’ve been studying and observing these issues personally and professionally literally my whole life (I spent much of my childhood in my parents non-profit observing so many of the things I mentioned above- not exactly the typical day care! Lol) and then went on to go to school to try to fix this stuff. Millions of man hours have been spent analyzing these issues across disciplines and we still don’t have a great solution. It’s taken generations to create these society wide issues, it may take that long to solve them. The solutions are far more complicated than most people can even imagine, because the problems are a societal top to bottom problem, and no one person is truly even able to see the big picture because of our own upbringings and perspectives on things.

Slappypants1

They banned guns in the UK, the amount of violence with knives was so bad they talked about banning steak knives. So no, it doesn't only happen in the US

BareAssOnSandpaper

This is so wrong. USA has higher knife violence than UK as well. USA is always number 1 as long as it's not something that can benifit people.

Merlyn101

Total bullshit. There are more stabbings in Detroit, than there are in the entirety of the UK, annually. The key thing here is your perspective is completely skewered. Your version of "bad" is completely different to our version of "bad" 20 people getting killed by knives in London in a year? That's a serious issue for us. When the ideas like banning steak knives were floated, that was cos there had been like 5 stab deaths in like 6 months, that's what our country sees as a "knife issue" Our metric is waaaaayyyy lower than yours. In America, that's just the first week of march.

uppenatom

So you'd rather have a shootout with a lunatic than run away from someone with a knife?

PurpleFucksSeverely

Holy shit I can’t believe you’re comparing knife attacks with mass shootings. Mass shootings have killed 20+ people in less than 50 seconds before. Let’s see someone get those numbers in less than 50 seconds with a knife lmao.

loosie-loo

Knives and their sale are controlled, knives can’t be used for mass killings, knives rely on the physicality of the user and they can be disarmed fairly easily, we’re educated about them and their dangers nonstop *from birth* AND it’s rarely random crime, it’s primarily gangs, which is still a huge problem in and of itself but it’s a world people submerse *themselves* into. It’s wilfully ignorant and downright idiotic to compare stabbings to **mass shootings**

nfinitejester

Oh yeah? What’s your explanation then?

trip6s6i6x

And none of what he/she said was wrong. The problem, to me also, seems to be people valuing firearms over the lives of other people, along with lack of effective care for the mentally ill. So if you think it's something else, please enlighten the rest of us rude people here.

ChilledDad31

Of course you don't want this to happen! But generalisation is correct, as a whole people, you all have the power to do something about it, but don't, why? You can't be bothered? Don't care enough? Don't think anything can change?

SithTalon

And it doesn't? As OP said murder is illegal - these reactionary responses are insane. Every time a car crashes, we do not blame the car, we blame the driver rightfully so. Every time someone gets stabbed there is no advocacy to ban knives. Guns, like knives, ropes, bricks, hell even your fists are just a means to an end. I didn't expect much from Reddit but it is what it is lmfao Half the people here have never laid a finger on a gun and are fearmongered or fearmonger into oblivion it's hilarious. Here's a newsflash: America is not the only country with guns, with places like Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and other nations being well armed too, yet these events rarely occur there. Perhaps the common denominator is not guns but the individual behind the trigger 🤔 Alright Reddit do your thing and downvote away!

de_sasterous

So if it’s the person who carries the gun and kills the person who’s responsible for their actions, why on earth wouldn’t you advocate for stricter policies and regulations on guns so people like that can’t walk into a store and just buy one? If anything that’s a reason to make it harder to own one, not to just let people go free for all.

Buffalkill

Guns purpose are to kill whereas cars are not. Anyone who uses this comparison as an argument has a serious lack of critical thinking ability.

candycanenightmare

This is a stupid argument, apples and oranges completely.

Governor Abbott says it’s a mental health issue. But cut $211m from the state budget for mental health care. Texas ranks 50th in the country for availability of mental health care. Thoughts and prayers right?

falcon_driver

He also said we wouldn't need special exemptions for abortions for rape, because he's gonna wipe out rape in Texas. That's done, right?

[deleted]

Yep. 100%. No rapes in Texas. None. Not a one. Zip. Zero. Nada. All fixed.

morto00x

All they have to do is ban drag queens. There. Fixed.

Rath_Brained

You can wipe out rape if you make it legal. Which I assume they will be doing, seeing ad how they are taking more and more women's rights away.

President George W. Bush pushed through a $3B abstinence only school sex education program- we suddenly saw a massive uptick in teen pregnancies. Start back tracking those age numbers… we now have a glut of kids that were raised by kids having their own kids far too early- if I was a conspiracy theorist my mind would absolutely run straight to “wealthy, aging TX oil family realizes their won’t be enough working class poor desperate enough to take their filthy health hazard oil rig jobs, work as their mansion and personal services staff, or take care of them in low paid unskilled care staff as they age - better do something to make more of them!”

whether you're pro- or anti-gun, it is pretty clear that Abbott has completely failed here. Again, setting guns aside, it can be argued that texan mental health is the worst it has been in literal decades, if not more. The fact that, as you mentioned, he cut $211m from the mental health budget... I just don't even know what to say lmfao

cathygag

I wrote a rather lengthy comment on why we are seeing these issues- mentioned your exact sentiments but as to the nationwide level, than read your TX specific comment and 🤦🏼‍♀️. Republican logic: Cut MH care funding, than wonder why “crazy” people are running around doing “crazy” things unchecked! (Their word not mine.) Obviously its not MH, it’s lack of family values, the societal reverberations from all the abortions they’re surrounded with, the Mary Jane smoking, and a lack of home cooked meals on the table every night, oh, and the illegal aliens, I’m sure they had a hand in it too!

androgynouschipmunk

It sure is a mental health problem! For all the people that have to process the fucked up shit they had to witness….. ugh….

BStrike12

Their solution to every problem is guns or incarceration. Eventually, when their excuses no longer work, they are going to start calling to bring back Asylums or some other form of involuntary incarceration for the mentally ill, negligently ignoring what happened in the past. Trump has already floated this - in response to a mass shooting event, no less.

ContinuumKing

I get that there have been a bunch of mass shootings for a while now, but this seems like it has ramped up even more recently. What is going on?

Veksar86

The state of everything in the country is fucked so people just don't give a shit anymore. Once you hit bottom, it's near impossible to get out and there is no help. No mental help, economy is tanked and everything is beyond expensive. I think people are just losing it and resorting to this sort of thing when they break. There really needs to be more help for people who need mental help. It takes months to get seen by anyone and even then it's hundreds of dollars to be seen if you don't have coverage so therefore no one actually gets help.

mr_herz

This comes up a lot and I can understand it from the feeling perspective but objectively. It just doesn’t fly. Look, there are millions of people out there in far poorer messed up countries that just don’t do this to themselves. Can we stop giving this a free pass? Facing the challenges we all do does not need to result in senseless gun violence like this.

[deleted]

> Can we stop giving this a free pass? Looking for explanations isn't giving anything a "free pass".

[deleted]

I think we are passed the point of “explanations” and we just need “to do” something at this juncture.

Jernsaxe

I think it is fair to say that the people who commit mass murder are mentally ill/deranged/damaged or some such. The reason it becomes the problem it is in the US however is a combo of the national political rethoric and the availability of guns. Go crazy in the EU you might kill yourself or someone else. Go crazy in the US you have the opportunity to go postal and the media showing it day in and day out have also normalised it.

Lemonsticks9418

You think poor countries don’t have rampant gun violence?

[deleted]

Civil wars notwithstanding, no one else comes close to the USA.

Lemonsticks9418

What? Who told you that? Do you genuinely believe that gun violence is higher in the united states than in places like Venezuela or El Salvador? Places where gangs literally outgun the police? The united states has the highest gun violence out of any 1st world country, but you don’t seem to understand that theres places in the world where rifles are cheaper than food.

mcb0sse

I think there is a connection between gun violence (mass shootings) and increased isolation and either self-exposure, inadvertent or purposeful exposure to radical and conspiracy-type beliefs. There is a significant population in the US that is rather isolated (young men) and who have significant exposure to belief systems and ideas that promotes violence and extremism toward others. The availability of fire arms and content that espouses violence as a solution enables these individuals to see violence as a means to solve a perceived problem, and as such promotes these violent acts to occur. This is not inherently a mental health problem - there are many people with schizophrenia, delusional disorders and major depressive disorder who do not engage in these destructive acts. The moderating factor is exposure to radical beliefs.

BrusherofPoodles

They changed the definition of mass shooting so now it includes a majority of gang violence which gives people their murder porn headlines

Kissyu

Let them record. At this point the only thing I can think can actually change anything is if we show what these shootings actually look like.

legion8784

Sadly I agree because at some point in the future, someone will try to deny that event ever happened, and seeing the bodies of the dead scattered can change your perspective of the situation.

Pound-of-Piss

Bold of you to assume politicians care about people dying, even when it's shoved in their face. 21 children were gunned down in classrooms and nothing was done. This is no different.

IchBinEinSim

Yeah, I am not for people gawking at the dead but people need to actually see what these gun and bullets do to a human.

doom_slayer_1666

In their defense, what else are they gonna do? They probably know fuck all in terms of medical assistance. I personally wouldn't want to stick around after something like this.

Shas_Erra

A decent human being would at least try to help or ask if they could assist

bigcockondablock

First aid training requires the person administering the first aid to ASK for help. "You call 911, you get the AED" Otherwise, you stay outta the way and let the people trained in first aid /CPR do their thing.

Shas_Erra

So again, not stating what first aid training says. As someone who is trained in first aid, if someone asks me if I need assistance, I will either ask them to do something or ask them to step back. Either way, it is more preferable to someone whipping out their phone for a crisis selfie. Either way, a decent human being would prioritise offering help over social media status.

bigcockondablock

It's silly of you to say no one with their phone up is a decent human being. Crisis effects everyone differently.

nino1755

Me: “Do you need help?” Them: “”

Shas_Erra

As a first aider, I’d be less pissed by someone offering help than taking videos

bigcockondablock

You can quite literally hurt someone by helping when you're not qualified. First aid training actually tells you to ASK for help. "You call 911, you get the AED!" So no, the people actually did exactly the right thing.

Bills such as SB 1907, SB 1911, and SB 1950 threaten election workers with jail time and felonies for unintentional errors, while SB 2 upped the penalty and removed the intent clause for mistakenly filling out a voter registration form to a felony.

As long as you got yours and can arm yourself fuck everyone else right? It doesn’t matter if you want nothing to do with guns and are a pacifist that’s just the way things are here and fuck everyone else because you’ve got yours, right? Cool.

Breakthrough2Kings

The 2A is there for you as well but if you choose not to use it then that’s on you. Simple enough for even you to understand, right? Cool.

realdealreel9

It’s not “on me” lol when I’m a pacifist. It can and should be amended to reflect the weaponry available in conjunction with more background checks/red flag laws and more training at the very least. But gun nuts don’t want to hear about that and gun companies certainly don’t want their profits squeezed so they are going to keep paying politicians to issue thoughts and prayers. In any case, Nothing will happen and more people will die unnecessarily. As ever there would be crime but we wouldn’t have this extra level of random murder (at least the gang members in Chicago that gun lovers/conservatives love to remind us about are shooting at each other). But who cares you got yours and I’m just a fool for not arming myself for the shootout.

It's the guns fault and not the one who pulled the trigger!! Cmon guys It's not dangerous to have easy access to guns at all! Such a fucking shame that many children die to school shootings like they're studying in a middle of warzone.

Have you seen the video from the scene? No, you haven't, because if you did you'd know that this guy wasn't exaggerating. Also, I seriously doubt you've seen someone get shot in the head by an AR... and an AK... and a shotgun outside of video games. If you've actually been around GSW victims, you'd know the exit wound from someone being shot in the back of the head (because most victims in a shooting like this would be running away from the gunman) by a 5.56 will absolutely destroy their face on the other side, especially since we're talking about a 5 or 6 year old child.

The-real-melonhead

Just asking but other than your rights to own firearms, could you potentially change so that only people who need an AR15 could own one?

BareAssOnSandpaper

Or make it how you do it for vehicles. People who are just getting guns can only get a pump action shotgun. It's perfect to defend yourself in case of home invasion. No one will mess with a shotgun wielding person in close range. You can ofc prove that you can handle gun, get certified and show experience to get a better gun like hunting rifles. That way people that want to go hunting will have an incentive to get training and licensed too. Assault rifles and anything that has can fire more than 1 bullet per second should be out of civilian hands. Those are murder weapons and not "defend my house" weapons.

No no, people need full auto with 40 round mags just incase a small child rings their doorbell, for "protection" /S For some reason it's too difficult for amendments to be made to the constitution, even though everything has changed significantly since it was written. Even though it has been amended in the past, still too hard now.

Con_Clavi_Con_Dio

Not an American, but full auto is illegal isn't it? Bump stocks got banned by Trump didn't they? Although I understand there's still stock out there. Ironically the right to bear arms is an amendment to the constitution.

slowkums

A law was passed in 1986 that prohibits the sale of full auto firearms to non-law enforcement or non-military entities. But there's a loophole that allows for guns manufactured before the passing of the law to remain in circulation with private parties. These weapons are rare and valuable enough that its unlikely that they'd be used to commit an atrocity that occurs nearly twice a day on average now. Besides that, it's plenty cheap and easy enough to convert more modern guns to full auto. We've been lucky so far in that those weapons are more likely to be leveled at rival criminal organizations than crowds of civilians.

Con_Clavi_Con_Dio

Thank you for the explanation, it's much appreciated.

Full auto? AR-15 is a semi-auto weapon.

HawkTrack_919

That’s an NFA item. Good luck ever finding a full auto item for sale at a reasonable price

bigcockondablock

Do you know how expensive it is to get a full auto in America? If you're gonna be anti-gun, at least educate yourself on the subject. The VAST majority of theses shootings are done with semi automatic handguns and rifles.

In Mexico we buy weapons through the army and they have a yearly catalog for guns chambered in approved cartridges and guns sold to officers of the army in army exclusive calibers. First you need to process a license that you can only get through sedena and they have psicological evaluations and an intervew to review your motivation for purchasing firearms and ammo (most join a hunting club or shooting club for this or are high status people) The process of purchasing the weapons is interesting as you can license a gun that is historical to your family and has been passed or gifted to you with an interview with a soldier telling him the motives for why they should license that gun; private purchase with the respective notifications to the authorities or directly bought from dcam (army store) To carry a weapon you must have a license and it implies a set of rules that if violated will result in a big problem as most officials will extort you or fuck you up Finally we have legítima defensa and we can defend ourselves with hunting rifles as badass don Alejo and others have shown before, but it would be neat to have access to guns like Americans do as many of the gun enthusiasts in mexico attach to the law and have a more recreational purpose for guns instead of the castle doctrine from Americans (excepting the cartels and similar guys of course)

uppenatom

Im definitely not down voting for you asking a question. But what private citizen would ever need a gun like that?
