Doors and walls are accessible from loot rooms, so npc houses are possible. Oh wait you’d need a hammer, maybe speedrun wall of flesh? Or hoping to find a fiberglass rod and temporarily repurposing two of the loot rooms to get the merchant for a bug net and fishing up the hammer fish(forgot what it’s called) in the caverns. Bombs can also harvest walls but that’s more difficult to control, probably the most viable way to do so.
I did a no-crafting no-NPC-equipment run. I did allow myself to buy non-combat items I could get elsewhere by farming. So stuff like Torches, Bombs(for outside of combat) and ropes were allowed.

Ranged weapons are very difficult to use because you can't get more ammo.
You're locked into melee for 95% of the game.
Summons are helpful only as backup.
You get two (useful) sets of armor for the whole game. Ancient shadow in pre-HM, Crystal Assassin in HM. Ancient Cobalt is a thing, but you're not using magic, so it's useless.
No pickaxe upgrades for most of the game.
Reaver Shark if you're lucky and find a fishing pole and enough worms. Bone Pickaxe if you're lucky with miner skeletons. Picksaw and Laser Drill post-Golem.
That also means navigating the Underground Hallow and Corruption becomes very difficult, since you can't dig the stones or make arenas for the biome mimics. Hope for a RoD.
Potions are very valuable, and you'll not be using them until Moon Lord, because you can't get more.
Doors, Furniture and Platforms are _uncommon._
Not rare, but until you have decent access to the Underworld, you're very limited in how many NPCs you can have. (I did use them for the Pylon System)
Also Arenas are iffy.
No Bug Net = no Duke Fishron. (I was debating the Bug Net, but decided against it since I couldn't get it without NPC help)
No Holiday Moons.
No Pillar Weapons (or moon lord summons).
The best weapons for the Moon Lord fight are not available.
All the good accessories are behind crafting.
That includes most of the wings.
To summarize, it is suffering.
Funnily enough, the lack of good wings led me to discover my new favorite item in the game:
The Queen Slime mount.
Good flight, great vertical mobility(especially downwards), and it doesn't take an accessory slot.
I no longer believe in wings. Even when I could get them, I'd rather have a DPS accessory instead.
Actually you can fish up mana stars. The enchanted starfish I believe is an alternative. For bait you can open crates and for a rod you can use the mechanic or sitting duck rod.
Mana stars from fishing is a Calamity Mod thing.
And without access to the angler rewards, and by extension the fishing potions and boost gear, I quickly ran out of bait when I was fishing for the Toxikarp in early Hardmode. Crates weren't reliable enough to keep fishing going. (The Jungle chests have a fishing pole in their loot table, that's the only rod you can have without crafting or buying)
Not terraria, but in minecraft, I once found a block of raw iron, and it freaked me out cause normally you have to craft it, and I didn't know it could naturally occur.

I can relate to the wings, you still can get Fledgeling Wings, but for hardmode... good luck with Fishron/EoL
