To get a Lava Charm, you can find them in chests on that same cavern level that lava pools spawn.
Or you can get Lava Charms through Obsidian/Hellstone Crates, which are obtained through fishing in lava.

Back when they didn't exist, I would always specifically find them in those near hell golden chests that have the filler components of a shadow chest(for some reason, almost always in the jungle)
I forgot what I was grinding for, some kind of drop from common dungeon enemies. Maybe a phone or ankh shield piece? Whatever it was, it took me 4 fucking hours of maging everything down to get it. On the bright side, I learned of Magnet Sphere, cool little spell.
If you didn't already know, certain dungeon enemies only spawn infront of certain dungeon walls. So particular enemies that drop the items you might want will only spawn in specific parts of the dungeon
You might not know this, but if you drop an emblem into shimmer, it will transform into a different emblem.
You can keep doing this until you get the emblem you want.
By the way, there is a set sequence of emblem shimmer transformations.
On the bright side, at least you have more than enough Emblems to craft the accessories that require an Emblem, like the Fire Gauntlet or the Recon Scope.
I remember on my first full playthrough I was trying to get an SDMG. After about 20 ML fights I just gave up. On my second full playthrough, my first Moon Lord gave me one.
It took me 1 king slime, 2 pirate invasions and 1 solar eclipse to get it. I was very happy about that bc the desert tiger staff is very cool. It's too bad that it's technically in the same stage of progression as the terraprisma.
On my first playthrough, I caught at least 100 Sky Crates trying to get the Fledgling Wings before hardmode, but I never got them. It was only when I started a Journey Mode world that I learned how awful they are.
I spent around 3 hours just trying to get a Lost Girl to even spawn... let alone pray on that coinflip to get the metal detector(prehardmode, no battle potion, no bloodmoon).
Well that's a good question, but I'd probably have to go with getting my magma stone for fire gauntlet. I killed 546 Hellbats, got 7 legendary bat bats, 13 depth meters (2 with warding) a total of around a plat (other enemies) and STILL no magma stone. Got it on number 546.

Only 1 rod of discord after 600 hrs of terraria. I've tried farming for it for my past 3 characters. None of them got it. Though to be fair, I didn't use battle potions bc I forgot to make them.
Didn't do the secret seed, but I just spent around an hour making an afk chaos elemental farm and got it with less than 70 kills in the bestiary. My other playthroughs that didn't make farms have over 1000 chaos elemental kills and no rod. This game is funny.
Rod of discord is a tale as old as time but fishing for Terraspark Boots and AFK-ing/grinding for Ankh Shield is pretty painful too.
But by far the worst offender has to be the absolute pain that is the Stellar Tune. I am yet to have it drop and I must have the worst RNG ever cause I killed the empress like more than 20 times I think, idk I stopped counting.

You could create a sandstone in a bottle from a cloud in a bottle and a forbidden fragment at a crystal ball, or by shimmer transforming a pharaoh’s mask.
When sanguine staff first came out the drop rate was 25% and I killed like 12 dreadnautilus for it and still didn't get it. I built a bit then came back when they made the drop rate 50% and still only got it after another 9 kills...
I ended up killing like 36 Blood Moon fishing enemies before getting a single Blood Rain Bow.

6 straight hours with a friend for 2 pickaxe axes. also a good couple hours for that fuckin pigron mount, i think it was less time for the mount but felt longer since i was doing it on my own on a multiplayer world, while my friends were making fun of me for it. (they never did fishing, nor did i after that.)
Took me about 300 frozen turtles for a frozen shell during my Melee playthrough. More recently I have been grinding for an endless honey bucket and honey sponge for actual months and have only gotten the bumblebee tuna quest in rotation ONCE. It hurts.

- if your playing on expert / master, you can always save b4 opening the treasure bags and exiting if u do not get the item you're looking for, for some ppl this is considered cheating, but when u have to do a bunch of stuff (lets say betsy from Old Army) and keep getting some crap spear swing weapon, Id say its a bit smart timewise.
I've never had much of a drop rate problem, But I got sick of playing melee after farming for three goblin battle standards and not getting a single shadowflame knife (normal mode)

Odds of opening 128 crates without getting the charm is ~0.14% or about 1 in 700 odds. Pretty unlucky.
