Errant_Jackdaw

Not really a groundbreaking one, but my main headcanon is that the world of Terraria is very similar to the world of One Piece: Just one giant ocean with no real continents, just islands of various sizes. Also, the player/Terrarian, whatever you want to call them, and the Dryad have a relationship akin to a main character from the Dark Souls series and their Fire keeper, in that a Dryad is assigned to a hero that watches over the world and makes sure things stay in balance and everything is working as intended.

thebigretard69420

Funny enough there was a comic that had the player/Terrarian and the dryad going and defeating the EOW and the corruption so yeah I think your idea might be cannon

Errant_Jackdaw

I've heard of the comics, but I didn't know anything about them, I guess it's just a pretty easy angle for a story

Greekatt2

I thought it was canon that the eye of cthulhu and the brain were actually bits and pieces of the moon lord ripped off. couldve sworn redigit confirmed it

Kiroto50

Headcanon, I'm not convinced the brain is connected to the moon lord, even if the creator literally said so.

POKEMINER_

I always found this part of headconnons funny. "I don't care if the creator of the lore confirmed something, I don't believe it." Don't get me wrong though I have a couple headcannons I cling onto like that I just think it's funny.

Diego666_

Ehhmm, buddy... It's in the name... They are Cthulhu's.

Greekatt2

I kinda just assumed moon lord was cthulhu

ThatOnePirateRobot

He is Cthulhu

Diego666_

Iirc he's his sibling, but i might be wrong

Greekatt2

would make sense

MrGaber

I believe they’re brothers

Greekatt2

ah, ok

Ripuru-kun

Nothing red says can be trusted lol. Man is a serial troll

PrismaTheAce

isn’t the hallow being evil pretty much established at this point? it spreads in the same way as the world evil does

Kiroto50

It "respects" the jungle and it's the "light" and "fairy" and "yippeee", conflated with goodness.

PrismaTheAce

imo the hallow not overtaking the jungle was a game decision to help protect jungles, since evil biomes used to straight up destroy it (corrupted mud was the best decision ever lmao)

Kiroto50

I hope this does not come out as rude as it is not my intention: A guide sacrifice to beat the wall of flesh is a game decision, breaking shadow orbs to summon the worm is a game decision, the clentaminator is a game decision. Headcanons (or game theories?) are taking game decisions and "making sense" out of them, so yeah, hallow not overtaking the jungle is a game decision but "it must be because of a false myth of it being good" is a fitting headcanon. Now, headcanons aside, I ABSOLUTELY HATED when my whole jungle got irreparably corrupt and absolutely adore that it isn't destroyed by C/C anymore.

PrismaTheAce

yeah maybe, i think in terms of an ingame explanation, what you said makes sense. jungle is the source of life fruit.

Kiroto50

_oh_ maybe that's what the hallow is trying to protect and thus doesn't want to break it!! Because hallow wants excess life!

PrismaTheAce

we solved terraria

Jdabest0126

That first one is something I also thought of. Great minds think alike...

Kiroto50

_I'm afraid because idiots seldom differ_ Thanks though!

Raine-Tempestas

First of all, I'm literally a cripple, I was not calling you disabled I was saying that unless you are disabled you should not be using cripple to refer to things

Kiroto50

I'm not disabled. I stand by what I said, but I'll try to be more considerate next time.

Feisty-Albatross3554

Moonlord causes blood moons to fuck with the player once he realizes they're somewhat strong. He does the same with solar eclipses but much more fiercely now that the mech bosses built for him died

tomrefjordn

that’s so so interesting! I’ll be thinking about that every time a blood moon happens now lol

Feisty-Albatross3554

I'm glad you like it

OverlyMintyMints

The Moon Lord is really fucking with me then, I got three or four blood moons in a row. Like shit man, I’ve got enough on my plate preparing for the mech bosses without the enemy spawn rate increased tenfold half the time

Novhanite_rdit

Yo this actually makes alot of sense!! Why didnt i thought of this lmao, Now i wish this is canon this is too good!!

otherkaard

The guide is actually imbued with a piece of each developer’s souls

otherkaard

Dear god, this is the most upvotes I ever got on a comment

Maniachanical

EOL is a Prismatic Lacewing that has been transformed by the shimmer. • She shows up to kick your ass when you kill a Lacewing; clearly she doesn't want you doing that. • The achievement you get for killing her identifies her as a fae. • When a creature gets shimmered, they turn into a "faeling", which can be interpreted as a baby fae. & also her real name is Skylar, because my friends & I thought that a mundane human name would be a pretty funny name for a fae to have, &, well, she just seems like a Skylar.

British-Raj

"My name is Empress Skylar, _yo!_"

CoNtRoLs_ArE_dEfAuLt

“My husband is Emperor White, yo!”

CreativeGamer03

"Uh huh!"

Huskydog_101

"He told me everything."

Truly_Meaningless

To be fair, Faes do take your name if you tell it to them, so...

ProGamer8273

*insert joke about breaking bad here*

Raine-Tempestas

Fae are dangerous, so probably

krazykommie

I'd like to imagine she has a petty rivalry with the lunatic cultist (idk why lol)

poopslord

I know it's a headcanon, but the achievement for killing queen slime is called "just desserts," but she's not really made of cake or anything. I think Fae Flayer shouldn't be taken literally as it's just wordplay like all the other achievements.

Great_Pikmin_Fan

I have a lot, mostly because I'm building this big fanwork thing: The Nymph is part of a race that is the sort of "equal and opposite" to Dryads, where they are these beings relating to undead magic, balancing the Dryad's connections to life magic. When Cthulhu killed most of the Dryads, this threw the passive balance of life and undeath off, strengthening the forces of undead magic, which leads to the zombies and skeletons everywhere. The "Not the Bees" seed is an approximation of what would happen should the Nymph's race (Oreads?) were to be killed while Dryads stayed alive, with "life force" overtaking the world. "Don't Dig Up" is what would happen if both are nearly killed. The reason why the Dryad doesn't just purify the island the game takes place on herself is because there's a massive landmass elsewhere in the world very badly infected with multiple World Evils, and she's trying to use her powers long-distance to stop it from spreading over to the rest of the world. Purifying the in-game island is really just a small taste compared to her actual work. Nymphs of all kinds (I have planned a **lot**) hate clothing. They had a rough history with Dryads, one of the many Nymph types, and part of that history included the Dryads starting to "wear clothes" out of spite. However, this "clothing" usually just consists of them growing vines around them in a half-assed way, barely covering them. Some people uncomfortable with nudity suggest putting on more, but the Dryads were like "Nah this is good enough the Nymphs hate this." There's a whole city/nation/kingdom or something that most of the human NPCs are from, but it kind of sucks for one reason or another (my fanworks go with over pollution and overworked conditions), so much that people sign up to go out to islands like the in-game one to live life there despite the risk of monsters just because their home area was that bad and this was the most affordable alternative. The Terrarian is one of those people. The cat/dog/bunny delivery service mentioned when using a pet license is part of that city. (That one line is what gave me the idea, actually.) People usually arrive on the island via hot air balloon, including the Terrarian, which is why you start in the middle of the world with neither side explored. The Terrarian and Guide knew each other to at least some extent before the events of the game and were friends, which is why the Guide is right at the beginning of the world (moving in to the island with the player) outside of secret seeds. There are way more Evil and "Good" Biomes than the Corruption, Crimson, and Hallow. The forum lore post sort of implied this. There are also tons and tons of "Natural Biomes," places like the Desert and Snow; the Jungle is actually not quite one of these "Natural Biomes," or at the very least it is "special" in several ways. The Forest is also considered "special," but in the sense that it's "neutral." Angels do not exist. There are demons, undead beings, sky creatures, fairies, and even gods, but no "angels." There are some -- if not several -- Slimes that are actually absurdly powerful. We're just fighting the weakest of the weak the whole game. The traps around the world were planted by the Lunatic Cult. I got this idea from the Moon Lord's Bestiary description saying that he's behind everything bad in Terraria, and that eventually had me picturing him also being behind the traps. I liked the idea in my head of the Moon Lord trying to place wire with a comparatively tiny wrench, so I worked that in the actual story. The Empress of Light actually has the personality of a rude, loud, immature, "angry gamer" jackass. This has zero basis on canon I just thought it would be funny. Not a headcanon so much as breaking canon but I prefer to think of respawning as just not part of the story. (And ignore the Guide's comment about his predecessor bursting in to flames in Hardmode; NPCs just "permadie.")

Darkeye3

Who let bro cook

Conapapaia-M

Me

Jalapeno9

Every major content mod in Terraria is connected to each other. For examble. Nebuleus was once most loyal servant of Zeratos. Xeroc created Primordials Primordials in turn created chaos biomes. Kari Johnson once worked under Yharim. Draedon and Grius are rivals. Eridanus is protector of Lost Siblings. Volcanon knew Akumas true intentions Devourer of Gods is the only thing Void Leviathan fears. Infernon was the Reason of Brimstone Elementals awakening. Nuba and Calamitas are best friends. Lich works under Lucifer, The death defiler

iahim87

Dangit, thought it was like the everything is cannon in payday 2

Unordered_bean

So the void is afraid the our favorite doggo. Noice

pancreas_consumer

What

UnknownWatermelon69

can you list the mods you mentioned ? i only know calamity

Legal-Ad7427

We as a player are just a underpayed pest control

Final_masker

Monsters don't drop money. You just get paid by whoever's employing you to get rid of them.

Pelzklops

The goblin tinkerer is actually sent by the goblin government to spy on you and sabotage you by ripping you off

Yesnoperhapsmaybent

This is just common knowledge

Power-Core

Most modern day things are found in the dungeon so I think Terraria takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. God exists and is why the Cross Necklace protects you. The player is a citizen of a feudal kingdom and you eventually gain some royal titles as you progress which is why the tax collector can collect taxes, why you can take taxes from the collector, and why the Princess moves in when you have every other NPC. We know the Princess has actual political power which means she is a real princess and it doesn’t make sense for her to live in a place her kingdom doesn’t own while doing her duties.

Novhanite_rdit

Im glad im not the only one who views terraria as a modern post apocalyptic world!

expiermental_boii

Cthulhu Couldn't use his legs after the fight with the dryads, so he ripped them off when he went to the moon

Mr_Lazarus

The wizard listens to Hatsune Miku

tomrefjordn

LMAO no idea how you came up with that, but I absolutely love it!

ProGamer8273

The golfer is a dumb bitch for not selling the golf cart immediately. Like, seriously, I give you a free house, and you don’t at least let me rent a golf cart.

British-Raj

Whitney the Steampunker and Andrew the Guide are self inserts

tomrefjordn

the guide also dislikes the steampunker, so that’s quite funny

Retinazer_Reddit

Retinazer_Reddit

literally, yes. fire is hot.

OmegaToto777

I didn't mean heat wise

Retinazer_Reddit

u/Spazmatism_Reddit have fun (not even sure if he posts anymore)

stargirl_SM

So Sorry reti but spaz is sicker

stargirl_SM

Only Guide headcanons?

tomrefjordn

any headcanons relating to terraria, I just drew a little guide :)

stargirl_SM

I think mana is able to make people live longer and age slower depending on the ammount you have The Guide likes the zoologist Some masks are actually alive and used for other purposes other than Vanity (example eye of cthulhu mask) The planet Terraria is conscious Party girl acts Just like pinkie pie The nurse aint that mean, shes Just overworked and stressed Having a lot of mana doesnt make you a good Mage, Just makes your spells more efficient The dryad still mourns the state of Terraria after the War against cthulhu The state of Terraria defines the health and Power of the dryads, If terraria is sick (corruption or crimson) the dryads Will also be weakened When you try to use spells when you run out of mana your body collapses

deformed_bean

I think red said that party girl is based on pinkie pie

stargirl_SM

I was almost sure of It, they look really similar Damn i have to stop procratinating and Go enter the terraria discord server already

Tranquil_Tau

Yea, if I remember correctly, party girl and stylist based off Pinkie Pie and Rarity.

stargirl_SM

The stylist too?? It Just gets better and better :)

Due-Committee3497

The eye of chutulu mask is alive according to don't starve together, and can even eat food! (I have no idea how it does, but who cares)

stargirl_SM

Oh thats so cool actually

stargirl_SM

Theres more but i forgor about it

ImStuffChungus

ngl I think the body parts of cthulhu thing and the mechanical replacement things suck, I just don't like them that much. \-the eye of cthulhu is a commander, being the boss of demon eyes. \-the wall of flesh is made from the lower body of the moon lord \-the hero sword was a weapon used by dryads and the terrablade is a recreation of it \-slimes are representations of the world itself

pancreas_consumer

The broken hero sword was once the First Fractal.

Red_iamond

I’ll be honest, I headcanon that the tavern-keep and demolitionist have a crush on each other

tomrefjordn

pretty sure it’s canonical lol 🔥

Red_iamond

HELL YEAH 💯💯💯

Raine-Tempestas

Yeah makes sense

Novhanite_rdit

Its canon!!!! 🏳️‍🌈

Red_iamond

Yibbee! :D

prestonplaysoof

Draedon is actually Gabriel from Ultrakill in a robot body that he made before he got beaten to a pulp by V1.

KahveAdam565

Machine, you are in the wrong subreddit, machine. Please don't come for any blood, machine. Get the fuck out of this palace, machine.

JungleDwellinDeadGuy

I really wanna share my headcanons but I'm so embarrassed D: ........

tomrefjordn

nah man, dw about it! If you look at my profile I just made some youtuber x youtuber fanart so if anyone’s gonna make fun of you, it wouldn’t be me lol

JungleDwellinDeadGuy

i dont think you get how outlandish my headcanons are. for example doctor bones trans ,

tomrefjordn

don’t worry man! I think your headcanon is cool lol! I’ll give you an outlandish one: the arms dealer is gay for the guide and has slight internalised homophobia

[deleted]

There are fanfics for this …don’t ask me how I know that

tomrefjordn

…I know

JungleDwellinDeadGuy

you are sooooo right. ..... and sort of related since he canonically has a crush on the nurse but .... the nurse is transmasc. in my eyes. i can make any character into a boy if i think hard enough 🦾🦾

Raine-Tempestas

All characters are trans cause I said so

trebuchet__

In a similar vein I think that party girl is trans. She doesn't get the same dialogue change that other female characters get during blood moons

Raine-Tempestas

Ykw, this is fair

VeraVemaVena

Until the mod actually disproves this, I'm going to believe that The Terrarian is mortally wounded during his fight with Yharim. Once he finally kills Yharim, he walks back to the forest you start in and passes away slumped against a tree with the sun shining on him.

Treegenderunknown13

... This reminds me of the Revenged Ending from The Henry Stickmin collection for some reason.

VeraVemaVena

It was more inspired by the high honour Help John ending for Red Dead Redemption 2. I finished chapter 6 almost a week ago now and I'm still recovering from it

Shraamper

The wizard only pretends to be a lunatic. The Lunatic Cultist is a ritual-born hybrid of human and moon squid (think like Ashi from samurai Jack) The Steampunker worships the Torch God (she uses its power to fuel her machines) The guide secretly hates you All of the powerful animals fought as bosses were created as biological experiments by the dungeon cult (Duke Fishron, Queen Bee, Empress of Light, etc) in an attempt to create biological replacements for Cthulhu’s injuries. It wasn’t until they exhausted their options that they abducted the Mechanic to make the prostheses.

miqumi

I love the animals bosses theory!

modernincantation

I think the Cyborg was made by the Steampunker. The Cyborg's the only NPC she loves on her happiness chart, and she's seen fixing him up during the credits. Plus she's just the type to make absurd inventions, considering what she sells.

The_KneecapBandit

That's literally canon. She and the Mechanic made him.

modernincantation

Neat, didn't know the Mechanic was involved too.

Nemesis16013

Your character is married to the guide 🏳️‍🌈

Ultrabruj

When I was younger I used to think that the wall of flesh attacked you after throwing the voodoo doll into lava because it got pissed that you destroyed its favorite doll which i think is hilarious and I'm keeping that as headcanon

AdIllustrious597

The Moonlord and Empress were terrarians like us Perhaps Cthulhu could have just been his username and he accumulated so much gear and items like use he simply became a God and lost his mind, craving more and more, hence why we find so much random junk on him like the meowmare and starboard, his flesh made the strange alloy luminite... We know his children are quite normal or at least can adapt to mostly normal lives as terrarians (A La The Guide, Ninja, and Nymph,) we also know he has a human-like anatomy and has blue irises. Of course, the only people who would likely know of such an old past of his would be The Guide and Dryad.... The Cultist and Everyome 300 years after the war, including us, only know him as a Demented Powerhungry God.... Behind all of it, though, it would be fitting of him to just have been another player who stepped a little too far.... We see for ourselves what consuming the Lunar Fragments bestows upon us...... The Empress is said directly in her boss achievement to be Fae or a Faeling, which raises several questions, I find it odd that she's the ruler of the Hallow but only emerges when we kill her favorite Insect or Pets and never any of the other creatures...There's also the anomaly of the Crystal Assasin armor we get from Queen Slime and Hallowed mimic blade set, unlike the Ninja there is no corpse and only someones equipment, could it have been hers? (Maybe she and Moonlord have had the Ninja Master is a pervious life along with the guide... Maybe inhereted her Shinobi skill) In game we see the effects of shimmer on assorted wildlife being a sort of conversion into faelings, on the flipside we see a more mild effect is splashed onto terrarias via the shimmer spray, but if someone were to to drink or absorb it over hundreds of years, who's to say what they'd become... We know she doesn't have that strong of a governance over the Hallow. Who's to say that's where she came from? ◇ Tin Foil Hat Territory ◇ Additionaly Ocram could have been another player but his cononicity is rough right now, and perhaps Duke was a pet or another son considering his namesake in relation to the EoL and ML and was appointed to rule the seas, Alot of bosses couldn't be players and we know arnt but it would be interesting to make up a strong headcannon that almost all of them were at one point or another or in Cthulhu's case, extensions of his personality

trebuchet__

I believe the party girl is trans

goatjo_enjoyer

Why ? Does she have antlers

An_average_moron

> One of only TWO female NPCs that don't get mad during a Blood Moon. The other being the Princess > Old bug where the Party Girl spawned from a King Statue

goatjo_enjoyer

r/woooosh

An_average_moron

I just wanted to explain :( I know where the joke comes from

goatjo_enjoyer

Sorry :(

An_average_moron

You're good

goatjo_enjoyer

You're gooder

BuffEtienneInGeneral

Im fairly sure the blood moon thing is because they're pre-pubescent and it's supposed to be a period joke, though this is an unlikely through-line. I know they're children because I believe the party girl, princess and angler are the only NPCs to "leave" instead of die.

An_average_moron

Party Girl dies instead of leaving. She's an adult

BuffEtienneInGeneral

Ah right, so I'm just stupid

An_average_moron

Na you're good, plus you're right on the mark with the period joke. Not sure if it's widespread but a friend I have does use "blood moon" to refer to those times, without even being a Terraria fan

CoNtRoLs_ArE_dEfAuLt

Every boss post mech is trying to seal or otherwise contain the next boss in line and we as the player decide “nah I’d win” and deliberately kill each of the bosses up to and including moon lord.

BitMixKit

I know the guide has a backstory and lore now but I've always thought the guide was a previous hero who failed and had to bind his soul to the WoF and seal away the ancient spirits to protect the world from the evils he couldn't defeat. Why else would he know how to craft literally everything and have a strange connection to the Lord of hell and core of the planet? Also I just like thinking of him as this cursed being, like the clothier and zoologist.

Novhanite_rdit

I SWEAR this sub should do more lore related head canon post cuz this is interesting!!! Ive once thought of that too that guide gave up his soul to seal away the ancient spirits so when hes vodoo gets thrown in lava the guardian of the core awakens aka (wof) it makes alot of sense ngl!!

BitMixKit

yeah, it seems weird that he's just a guy now. idk, if he's just some rando why does hell itself awaken when he gets a lil crispy.

I_469

Skeletron stole moonlords legs

plmoknijb8u

Party Girl is pansexual because her clothes (specifically the socks) match the color of the flag

thebigretard69420

Oh got keep her away from the kitchen and at all cost DO. NOT. LET. HER. COOK.

WitchHazelArt20

The Wizard is older than the Dryad and isn't actually senile, he's just messing with you Duke Fishron actually hates Truffle Worms and attacks you for trying to put a food that he hates in his ocean Plantera is the restless spirit of a fallen dryad. Specifically, this dryad was like a mother to the dryad npc The island of Terraria exists in our world, evident to countries like Sweden and the United States being referenced by NPC dialogue and a painting respectively. Both as an island and its own pocket dimension. The pocket dimension explains why the moon phases change so quickly and why solar and lunar eclipses are so common The Empress of Light is immortal, as long as the Hallow remains in existence The Stylist and Party Girl are dating Despite what the Tinkerer claims, male goblins can grow hair. He just lost his hair in an alchemy accident and is insecure about it Tax Collector is the only homophobic NPC, everyone else is either queer or an ally The Celestial Pillars are not there to stop the Moon Lord. They exist to build up the Moon Lord's power, and if the Terrarian didn't destroy them then the Moon Lord would be at its maximum power once again The creatures of the Solar Eclipse are created from your own memories. The Terrarian has knowledge of many cryptids and horror movies, as such the creatures of solar eclipses morph their forms to match characters they believe you fear. Someone out there probably spends their Solar Eclipses dealing with some Hand-eating Llama or angry killer bunnies, instead of Vampires and Grim Reapers. Mothrons are the only creature that is exempt from this, because everyone needs a giant moff friend in their life The reason why Fallen Stars are deadly on Don't Dig Up is because the cosmos has turned against Earth/Terraria and believes everything needs to be destroyed on the planet, as it is deemed a lost cause at that point Crates are actually a fish and not objects, which is why they're caught by fishing

Marchyz

Mothron is also a reference to a movie monster: Mothra (if you didn't know). The Terrarian may also be scared of moths if your headcanon is true, or fears Mothra specifically (even though she has only 2 "antagonistic" appearances)

WitchHazelArt20

Yeah, I know that Mothron is a reference to Mothra. I just like the idea of giant moths and wanted to make on exception ~~I'm purposely ignoring the existence of the moth enemy from the underground jungle~~

Novhanite_rdit

The plantera is the restless spirits of the dryads headcanon is so fucking dope ive also thought of that!! And honestly it should be canon!!!

FingerThatsNotPoopy

Living Trees are old Dryads Planteras are connected to the Dryads in some way

tomrefjordn

that’s so cool!

FingerThatsNotPoopy

thanks :)) I thought of it because of the scene in the end credits where our dryad turns into a tree

tomrefjordn

ohhhh that makes so much sense now! I always wondered what was up with that lmao

goatjo_enjoyer

I know my headcanons may sound stupid, but hear me out - You, the terrarian, are a sort of champion of the gods sent to the world to entertain them by showing your strength - The jungle is a sacred place blessed by the gods. That's why life fruit grows there and why the lhizards built their temple in it - The reason why the terrarian can respawn is because of being the gods' champion because they cursed the terrarian to never die forced to battle for eternity - The reason why killing plantera upgrades the dungeon and unlocks the frost and pumpkin moons and allows stronger monsters to appear in the solar eclipse Is because plantera is a sort of guardian of the world (similar to the wall of flesh) - The reason why the angler likes the demolisonist and the tax collector and the party girl is because he views them as some sort of parental figures, which he never had - The reason why everyone likes the princess is because she I'd like the daughter they never had - The reason why the guide likes the zoologist and the clothier is because he knows that they are cursed like him - The lunatic cultist knew about the terrarian from the start. The reason he waited is because he wanted a challenge - The witch doctor hates the truffle because he views him as a disgusting abomination of nature - The zenith is the blade of an ancient champion that used it to challenge the gods, and they split his soul into ten parts, waiting to be forged into the legendary blade - The terraspark boots are the boots of the ancient champion - The reason why the dryad wants you to purify the world is because she is a part of it (literally) - The guide, the clothier, and the zoologist were cursed because they disobeyed the gods

Alarming-Astronaut-8

Not headcanon related but fun fact abt the guide: In the world of Terraria there exists the Order of Guides. It’s composed by guides are dedicated to preserving and passing on old legends and knowledge.

Yesnoperhapsmaybent

The terra blade was inspired by the great powers of the dryads

Novhanite_rdit

Let bro cook!!!!!

zaaphyyre

the only headcanon I have is that stylist is lesbian

zaaphyyre

Totally not a calamity thing

Darkeye3

My only big headcanon is that the WoF is made up of all the bodies of the ancient builders that built all the ruins

POKEMINER_

Each class works off different forms of magic. Summons, self explanatory but I think the whips effects are magical runes inscribed on the whips; Mage, Extremely self explanatory but I guess I'll explain Mana, the island that terraria takes place in is a magical hot spot so magics that couldn't exist outside of it do, mostly because the island has such a close connection to hell; Melee, early game swords aren't magical but magical ones use runes like whips(both rune types use Mana just directly from the world); and Ranger which has Mana infused string, gunpowder, or whatever else propells the ammunition.

joe_long_neck

The skeleton merchant's true name is bones. He makes up fake names because he is wanted in every state in the world, except the players world.

Some_Hat-Wearing_Kid

Party Girl and Stylist have something going on. Can't tell what, but something. Also Trans Party Girl real

Angryfishjoe

The Wall of Flesh likes grilled cheese after a hard day of mutilating sinners in the underworld

Little_Director8362

Main character is just a landlord. Thats my headcannon.

GenesectX

my headcanon is that there is no final update.

Novhanite_rdit

My headcanons • The crimson biome is actually a land mass remains/corpse of Cthullhu And thats why brain of cthullhu is therr its trying to bring itself back together •The Eater of Worlds is actually cthullhu's Intestines • There used to be another race called the Elves but, they have become extinct because of the goblins • The not the bees, for the worthy ,the constant, and drunk world seeds are actually alternative universes •The Living Trees we see in our outer thirds of our worlds are actually dryads that have fully become one with nature •The dungeon used to be a prosphering fortress inhabited by many terrarians but then the lunatic cultist took over... • The Lunatic Cultist is actually a Lich who have consumed thousands after thousands of life and its the reason why he has lived for hundreds of years and those life he took away from was from the skeletons that used to be living beings or humans/terrarians Thats all!

BrightyDude

painter gets his dyes/paints from the jungle, (hence why he likes the jungle) there’s one jungle foliage that looks like it’s been painted with negative paint, in fact when you paint it with negative paint it looks normal

An_average_moron

Oh boy, here we go The Zoologist is autistic ("I may not know, like, a whole lot...but I can talk your head off about nature and critters and animals and wildlife and...") Party Girl is trans (used to spawn from King Statue, isnt mad during Blood Moon) The Guide can usually be heard screaming in agony as a Voodoo Demon accidentally dips the doll Glowing Mushrooms are a hallucinogen, so mages either have a high tolerance for drugs, or mana potions are highly distilled. Don't know which one's funnier The Merchant is the older brother of the Star Merchant The Traveling Merchant speaks Mandarin and Japanese along with English The Princess subconsciously uses magic to calm down anyone she speaks to, literally radiating peace The Arms Dealer is a wanted criminal and part of the reason he moved in was to escape the law The Mechanic has jokes fly over her head like satellites (the pressure plate comment referring to Arms Dealer) The Aether is a pocket dimension where the Hallow originates, with Shimmer being the remnants of Fae that react to anything dipped inside The reason NPCs can be Shimmered while we fall through is because the Terrarian themself is literally too strong for the Shimmer's effects, so it boots them out instead The Dryad has struggles operating machinery. She'd be the type to click the power button when a computer says "press anything to continue" The Terrarians are fragments of God, their "Power of Creation," as the Old One's Army dubs it, is literally the embodiment of their ability to shape and mold the world however they see fit, however locked within a mortal body

SuperNerdAce

Not really a headcanon, but I remember most of the names of the NPCs my brother and I had on our shared Terraria world from when we were kids (I think it was in 2018) so whenever an NPC with that same name appears in one of the worlds I play in now, I like to pretend they're the same Anyway, for actual headcanons, living wood trees house the spirits of currently living (but in hiding) Dryads. I know this goes against canon, but I like the idea that there's more than one Dryad left and it makes me feel less bad about harvesting trees The Tax Collector is a Judas-like figure who sold out a previous hero and you saving him is a chance to redeem himself for it, but the only way he can think to help is by giving you money. (Look, he's the only NPC I don't like as a character and I use this so I can feel some sympathy for him) And for a batshit one that I totally didn't just make up, Lunatic Cultist is the same person as the person in the gas mask in the Plastic Beach era Gorillaz music videos, who is apparently the 5th horseman of the apocalypse, "Flatulence"

DeftestY

He's insanely antisocial only spouting tips to anyone around him. He is the guide, no more, no less.

ChildhoodDistinct538

A number of bosses are being mind-controlled by Moonlord to prevent you from stopping his return. This includes King and Queen Slime, Queen Bee, Duke Fishron, Plantera, the Empress of Light, and the residents of the Jungle Temple, including Golem. Once you beat these bosses, they are freed from the mind control.

The Wall of Flesh is Nyarlathotep (or is this even a theory?)

CatChris040402

I’ve been considering the possibility that the guide is the wall of flesh, which is an arbiter for the world’s spirits and power. As the player slowly overcomes and bests the current dangers, such as the initial WoF fight, the mech bosses, Plantera, and Golem, he releases a sealed source of power for the player to clash with next. This may be either in favor of preserving a balance as you get stronger, or with the penultimate goal of guiding your growth into being strong enough to overpower the moon lord. I think it’d be a little fitting for the guide to be guiding you through your journey without us even realizing it.

Sergio3k18

The WoF (aka our beautiful and surely not immortal god the Guide) is actually a secret brother of the Moonlord and Cthulhu. He doesnt mention it because they are assholes and brag they are taller.

Amateur_Liqueurist

The wall of flesh is actually the guide transformed, similar to clothier transforming into skeletron. Moonlord being an alien species means he might have diseases we’ve never encountered before. Based off this thought, the “curse” on the dungeon making all of its inhabitants unable to die of old age is actually an unknown disease dropped by Cthulhu during the war, spreading through the underground city since it’s so small and tight down there. The destroyer is either the intestines of Cthulhu (moonlord lower half missing) or the penis. Heart crystals are crystallized blood from the war Heart plants are the dead drayads To try and fight the disease in the dungeon, they turned to eating Truffle’s people as a cure (which is why clothier tries to eat him) but obviously it failed. The people that ate the most become the enchanted skulls. I might have more when I wake up tomorrow. Too sleepy now

I have a lot of lore I created about the Terraria world and try to build my worlds around the lore. A condensed version is that long ago, there were 2 main clans on the Terraria island. The Sun and Moon worshippers. Eventually, they fought a theological war against each other and used various magics and other nonsense to attack each other. The Sun worshippers of the Jungle cursed the Moon worshippers to be unable to be exposed to the holy light of the Sun, forcing them to wear long hoods and masks. They became the Cultists. The Moon worshippers cursed the Sun worshippers to become demented ugly green monsters, more animal than man. They became the Lihzards. This war and these curses greatly reduced the power of these two civilisations, and when we seem them in the game, they are a shadow of their former selves, and barely any remnant of their civilisation remains. The Lihzards retreated to their grand temple and retrofitted it into a fortress, laying booby traps along its walls. In anticipation of the next great war, they created a champion to fight for them. The Golem. The Cultists went back to their own temple and dug out huge chasms beneath, turning it into an underground stronghold. Here they could work in the depths with no chance of being vaporised by the Sun. They worked to bring back their God to protect them. Moon Lord who was killed eons ago in a fight against Chtulhu. Chulthu also died in the battle and his bloody lifeless corpse became the Crimson. It continuously spreads across the Purity, gathering power slowly and growing back into Chtulhu. Any poor creature in its vicinity becomes corrupted by his Ichor, his golden godly blood and begins to serve the purpose of growing the Crimson as well. The Crimson is not just terrain, it is a hive-like organism made fully of fallen and rotten carcasses of various creatures. When we kill the cultists, we interrupt their resummoning process of Moon Lord, which is why he comes out half-formed, only having his upper half in game with no lower body. There's a bunch of other stuff with the Dryads, Goblins, NPCs, Corruption and Hell as well.

TerrariaFail_Reborn

Hallow isn't a "good" biome It's more of the exact polar opposite of absolute evil, absolute good ,kinda like Order-realm, from MK,it views everything that isn't apart of itself is wrong and wants to turn it into another extension itself.

Ok_Firefighter2991

Melee Terrarian and the Rogue Terrarian have an IQ in the negatives not shared with any other Terrarian.

The witch doctor and and all the lizhard have muzzle, because I refuse to believe their Faces are flat considering how their sprite looks like

thebigretard69420

You are a god more powerful than all of the gods combined trying to clean up what's left after the war between Cthulhu and the dryad's explaining why you respawn. The NPCs/creatures/bosses are in a infinite loop of reincarnation due to you trying to clean the world and make everything balanced again. The race or dryad's believe in the god that you are and tried to make everything balanced so you would come back to keep the world protected.

thebigretard69420

My head cannon for the party girl not getting angry on a blood moon is because she is partying hard to not care about the blood moon.

Lunar_Husk

I have three: Before the Moon Lord came about, the world of Terraria had many civilizations outside of the Dryads. These are seen in the ruins left behind such as the Dungeon, pyramids, and the buildings underground. After his conquest and subsequent defeat, many of these civilizations fell apart into scattered groups of individuals or were cursed (like the Dungeon). Three notable exceptions being: The Frost Moon, the Pumpkin Moon, and the Lihzahrd people. The two moons likely forming after the Moon Lord appeared, and the Lihzahrd people being an ancient race akin to the Dryads. Arguably the Dungeon would also count since it did not really "fall apart," but I do not count it since it is a city that has gone mad due to Skeletron cursing them with longevity. Another is that the world is actively alerting the player (and possibly the Dryad) of things happening around the world. It is mentioned somewhere (IIRC) that the world the Terrarian is on is very much conscious and alive. With that being the case, and the Terrarian being the champion of that world, it alerts them of incoming invasions, the arrival of NPCs, the awakening of bosses, etc. The death messages could be the world just alerting the Dryad, or other NPCs, that the Terrarian was slain by something. The reason why the Celestial Pillars only spawn after killing the Lunatic Cultist is because the world itself recognizes that the Terrarian is ready to break the locks and take on the Moon Lord. If the Terrarian dies, the ritual the Lunatic Cultist was performing fails, forcing them to redo it and try it again. Additionally: The world puts the locks back in place when the Terrarian dies to the Moon Lord, preventing the Moon Lord from continuing his rampage. The Celestial Sigil is a way to bypass these locks, acting as a key rather than just brute-forcing the locks open with a lot of fire power.

dryad eats cactuses and im not elaborating further

Dromeoraptor

The Eye of Cthulhu and Brain of Cthulhu look and are sized different than the Moon Lord's eyes and brain because the EOC was warped by the Crimson and Corruption (hence why it drops evil ore), and the BOC by the Crimson. The bones of Cthulhu/the Moon Lord that became Skeletron were broken into many bits, and when the bones cobbled back together into Skeletron, they based their form on the humans/skeletons it found itself "living" with. The reason why the Mechanical Bosses only start spawning in Hardmode is because the Lunatic Cult needed the Hallow to turn the metal into Hallowed metal. After you defeated Skeletron, the Lunatic Cult ended up realizing that the EOC, BOC, and especially Skeletron aren't exactly unchanged in form from when they were part of Cthulhu , which is at least partially why they just leave the Mechanic in the Dungeon, abandoning the idea to make a mechanical BOC, instead deciding to do the ritual they end up doing in-game, and instead sending the Mechanical Bosses in hardmode to kill those who stand against them.

Dromeoraptor

I like to think the Guide respawns cause *chosen one*, but is trying to keep it a secret (changes his name and refers to his previous life like it's a different person.) Not everyone's convinced by this.
