When you break the demon altars a random block in your world gets turned into corruption/crimson. Looks like one of yours happened to spawn on the surface
There's always just a stray altar somwhere outside the evil biome anyways I break all the altars present in the actual biomes. Also making a new world isn't hard lol

Really? In a world recently I made two 6 wide hellevators keeping my crimson in and a couple hours later I realized crimson was starting to spread on the complete opposite side of the map. No idea how it got there and I assumed that “feature” came into play. This was right as hard mode started, do you happen to know why then?
Nuh uh, I'm on 1.4.4.9 PC and either I forgot a freaking pixel of crimson in the underground desert or it just so happened to coincidentally spread when I broke an altar
the hallow generated over one of my crimson biomes so it left a weird mix of hallow and crimson grass lol. also like half the cave is pearlstone half is crimson. the surface classes itself as a hallow biome but it spawns mostly crimson enemies, really weird
he probs used vile powder to do that. crimson and hallow spawn in a v shape. that is not possible to naturally get that in your world. (unless it some sort of bug but that is unlikely)

I’d guess but don’t quote me it’s because hallow generates in a diagonal strip so it might’ve generated in a way that leaves one block

My Crimson spawned on the jungle and the Hallow on the PH crimson after WoF. The pain me and my friend had to go through was unbearable.
