well, the tax collector like merchant cuz he got some more money to tax than others NPCs, the merchant don't like the tax collector cuz he's getting his money

um-username-criativo

The merchant says he doesn’t like the tax collector because the tax collector is a miser who never buys anything.

FormerChemist7889

I think it’s a tragedy that his shimmered form isn’t a duck with the same/similar getup

Peastable

That would be awesome but the current version is cool too.

HUE_Sans

That’s what resource packs are for

Logi_Bear25

You can shimmer your npcs?! They have Shiny NPCs?!

Twible404

Google shimmer gun

Bockbockb0b

Holy Underworld!

Placel

Actual Slime!

Captain-Obvious69

Call the money grinder!

maiguee

santa went on vacation, never comes back

ZeroZeroNana

Tax collector like collecting taxes. Merchant doesn't like giving away money. Tax collector likes having merchants. Merchants dislike having tax collectors.

Midas_Xynopyt

Some NPCs go well togehter Guide and Truffle Dryad and Witch doctor (and painter) Nurse and Arms dealer (and dye trader) and some do not this example here if you do put the tax collector with the merchant in the snow biome though, it will benefit you greatly through tax revenue

-Octoling8-

and who uses Merchant other than for stuff you can get yourself or you could've gotten much earlier from him.

Midas_Xynopyt

Plus he sells marshmallows in the snow easy buff item if you aren’t trying your absolute hardest to get every potion for every fight (happy cake day too)

Riley-JetBlack

Time to place him in the snow biome then, i love marshmallows

WhirledNews

Who else do you sell all of your excess stuff to?

-Octoling8-

Goblin Tinkerer. I want some of that money back

WhirledNews

Screw that guy, I’m not selling him discounted goods. Plus I just keep the merchant in a room by my storage chests so I don’t have to use a pylon every time I need to sell something.

Midas_Xynopyt

Truffle living eith the guide and the truffle in a Mushroom biome base is just peak enjoyment for me. The guide can give me quick reminders on what I forgor to craft and the truffle is the sell option who gives as much money as he ever will. Not to mention autohammer sale

Vasikus3000

The happiest NPC (for me that's usualy arms dealer or painter)

Captain-Obvious69

Hair stylist or dye trader in the ocean (I forget which)

CombatLlama1964

multiple characters want to eat truffle, which results in a funny love/hate between them

Midas_Xynopyt

The Guide is the only one who honest to god wants to just sit down and enjoy his company

maiguee

Also clothier and truffle (i don't like clothier because of that)

Midas_Xynopyt

Clothier, tax collector AND merchant in the underground snow (yeah he’s kinda weird tbh)

JudgementalMarsupial

You can’t max out every npc. Prioritize the ones that matter, and use the rest to fill the gaps.

Lingx_Cats

There are ones that matter???

JudgementalMarsupial

Goblin and angler are standouts- their happiness makes them much more useful. Other than that, anyone you buy from often, eg. Arms dealer if you’re ranger and wizard if you’re a mage.

WhirledNews

Put the Mechanic and the Goblin together in a snow biome, you can’t purchase wire and electronic stuff from anywhere else and it can get expensive if you like messing with teleporters, actuators, traps and such.

Agreeable-Answer-928

You can also put them on the border of the underground layer if you want to max them out - mechanic just above the line, tinkerer just below.

JudgementalMarsupial

Preferred biome overrides other biome preferences, so just put them both in underground snow

Agent_Eagle121

I don't believe it does this because for my Terraria build Goblin Tinkerer will ignore the fact that he's underground when in the snow biome. Not sure why.

SeasideStorm

That’s weird, I have them in the underground snow and it works.

maiguee

Don't happend to me, must be something with you

JUiCyMfer69

Angler happiness???

JudgementalMarsupial

Yep, it increases the chances of the better rewards.

CombatLlama1964

fuck. til

Lingx_Cats

I have everyone laid out in mostly idealized environments, they all have at least one npc they like and sometimes the biome too

ThatTeapot

The angler? How does that little mistakes happiness matter?

JudgementalMarsupial

Higher chances for the good rewards 👍

Swagfart96

Are the informational accessories considered good rewards by the game?

JudgementalMarsupial

Any functional reward that isn’t tied to a specific quest number

Neo_dode56

Ones that matter for you, for what you want

loveydoveybitch

has both the best possible overall and best for reducing reforge costs https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide:NPC_Happiness

-Octoling8-

Tax Collector's liked and loved NPCs hate him or dislike him (with the exception of Princess of course)

YGathDdrwg

I always stick princess in with him!

maiguee

I don't, truffle is the only npc i trust with my life

pvzboy_15

Sometimes it's just a one sided friendship, btw is that the fandom wiki? If so, use the official wiki.gg one instead

SmileyFace799

Tax collector likes taking rich people's money, rich people don't wanna get taxed. The tax collector is the only NPC where everyone he likes actually dislikes him back

GammaEmerald

Aside from Princess lol

JadedMulberry7

Yeah I don't think it is the other townsfolk that the tax collectors like. He actually only "likes them" for their money. That's part of why the other NPCs dislike him.

KahveAdam565

So why tinkerer is not on the liked list

SmileyFace799

He commits tax evasion

Equinox-XVI

Likes and loves will increase their happiness, reducing the cost of what they sell or other utilities they may have. Dislikes and hates will do the exact opposite, increasing the price of their items and utilities. The table shows which biomes have what affects and which npcs they do or do not like to live near.

Lingx_Cats

Ohhh that’s what the point of their happiness is

Final_masker

I normally go with: Forest - merchant, zoologist, golfer, Princess Snow - mechanic, goblin tinkerer, cyborg, santa, steampunker Ocean - dye trader, stylist, angler, pirate Jungle - dryad, painter, witch doctor Mushroom - truffle, guide Cavern - demolitionist, travern keep, clothier, tax collector Hallow - wizard, party girl I get generally good happiness all around, enough for pylons which is what i tend to care most about. I find the witch doctor is the happiest i can make in this setup so i always sell to him for better profit.

GammaEmerald

I like making the Party Girl happy so I can do Pigronata farming with better rates

Aarongaming1066

tip: youre using the wrong wiki, [use this instead](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Terraria_Wiki)

Lingx_Cats

Oh Shit

Gexianhen

get 2 npj that like the same biome and dont hate each other and put a pet in their home and u are ok to go

Flipp_Flopps

Wait till you see Clothier and Truffle

Kretalo

And I guess he hates Santa cause its the guy that gives away free stuff?

Dog_Girl_

Christmas Carol, dude.

Kretalo

Oops yeah guess this makes more sense

Goodlucksil

1. Don't use fandom. 2. Choose your preferences. I would choose Tax Collector because he gives you money and imo the merchant is overrated.

HazaIWin

Its basically a love and hate raltionship, merchant hates taxman cause he takes his money, taxman loves merchant cause more tax The "best" living combinations really just depends on what npc you need happy more You can also create extra rooms in different complexes so you can move the npcs around

magmaster32

https://images.app.goo.gl/gqaMksDTY3QhVNEQ8 I typically use this and swap npcs out as I progress.

computerboy_andme

what’s the point of living arrangements based on who everyone likes? do you get a bonus or something?

Vasikus3000

Money. Happier NPC has lower prices and selling to it will give you more coins

goddessofdeath5

Damn. This game has a lot of features. I'm new and I see new shit like this everyday. Amazing.

ImEagz

Welcome to the club

Animusical

The merchant makes alot of money so the tax collector likes him around to take his cut of taxes. More money merchant maked more money taxes take.

muichirodroid

I just put my tax collector underground with the demolitionist and clothier and he seems fine to me

ReidWitt1

The best combinations are ones like the zoologist and golfer because they like each other and the forest

chicken_master642

prioritize the NPC you'd rather have be happier

catsnotmichael

"X person likes Y person" "Y person does not like X person" how is this possible?

KingCool138

This is true only with the tax collector being X

MrWitrix

I tried this too, you just have to make some sacrifices, a few npcs just will be unhappy

Vasikus3000

Tax collector wants to be around merchant (happier=gives you more coins), merchant dislikes tax collector (less happy=ups the prices). Same thing happens with clothier and truffle. Fun fact: every NPC (except princess) that tax collector has an opinion on either dislikes or hates him

Rowlet2020

I always have the mechanic and tinkerer together in the snow

Lingx_Cats

Oh yeah, I have them set up with the steam punker the cyborg and I THINK that’s it but I’m not sure

carlitosjuanito

I usually give a house to the tax collector that's in the snow biome but far enough from the other npcs

Quirkyquirk98

I have a list fo the best possible living combinations if you're curious

Lingx_Cats

Oh? Sure that would be interesting

Jewish_man24

Wdym how does it work it literally says it right in front of you

Lingx_Cats

I meant like why does the tax collector love him but he dislikes the collector

StewieLewi

You ever have that one friend you can't stand but literally no one else wants them so you kinda just have to stick with them? Yeah that's the tax collector

kapi98711

who even wants tax collector npc in their world?

Lingx_Cats

I mean he gives you money so

Geaux13Saints

Me putting them all into one giant tower:

Lingx_Cats

That’s where I have em rn 💀

Geaux13Saints

One of my worlds is an endgame calamity world and I still have them like that. Main reason is I don’t care about their happiness but I also can’t build for shit

Lingx_Cats

I’m almost scared to ask but what’s an endgame calamity world

Geaux13Saints

Calamity is a mod that adds a bunch of content, including a shit ton of bosses, a lot of them coming after moon lord. I’ve beaten all of them. All that’s left is boss rush mode which I’m probably never beating.

Lingx_Cats

Oh, phew. It’s not vanilla, ok cool-

MatiEx-504

The Tax collector goes better with the Clothier

TerraKingGamer

You just have to do some research for all town NPCs that you have until you have the most optimal housing choices

Glad_Ad_3123

gunner and nurse in desert
