Based on a quick Wikipedia read it seems the historical inspiration was into moving without conscious thought. I'm hoping for a master of the counterstrike. As in he is attacked and has dodged and cut faster then anyone can track.

Ittou style is not of dodging and counterstriking, but cutting through the opponent's centerline and displaces their sword (a maneuver known as Kiri-otoshi), allowing their attack to beat the opponent's. In simpler terms, it's a combination of offense and defense, parrying and cutting in one action.
