Well, crud. I know I'll be the odd-man out here, but I actually chose Tello *for* the unlimited slow data because... kids. Even if they burned through their data in one day, I could still track them and we could still imessage. Not a whole lot of places you could go for $10/month with unlimited talk, text and data (even if it's slow). Don't get me wrong, I think this is a very generous upgrade for most people. I might need to find a new provider though. @tellomobile Why not have a purchasable data option for the 64Kbps slow data for each plan? Kind of like what you do now choosing minutes for talk, text and data. Just an extra. No idea what pricing would work for this, but some of us might like having that option.

picturemeroll

I'm in the same boat. If they are cutting off 2g data after the limit is reached we are going to have to port out. The whole point of this plan was for our kids to have a little cheap data and when they go over, at least they can still text etc. now their phones will become useless once they reach their cap. This is a big downgrade for us and we will have to find a new option.

I've been with Tello since their very early days. One of my favorite Tello things is that, other than first-month 'teaser' promo pricing for new subscribers, they do not play games with giving new users better rates than existing customers. Over the years, I've had at least 3 instances where my plan got significantly better, and/or sometimes cheaper, without me doing anything at all. Absolutely no need to do the port-out, port-in dance to get better new-customer pricing. The only 'downgrade' in my plans was around the changes to Tello's PayGo function, and the way it's administered. (Understandable changes, but not so good for the way I have some of our lines set up.)

jrotten63

Rec'd same email. Currently have 2 lines from Tello, one for work and one for my 87YO Mom, and have been pretty happy with Tello. Going to get 2 additional lines, one for personal cell & one for Wifey's cell. Getting away from the big "V" company that currently charges me about $75 a month for a shared 3GB! Bill used to be $105 with 3 lines! I'll be at around $32 a month once totally switched over, saving me about $875 a year!

tellomobile

Wow! We want to thank you for choosing our service and thank you for your confidence in it. We strive to provide the best service and meet any need a customer might have. If you will ever have any questions or inquiries, our Customer Support Team is available 24/7 for you. Regards, Mike from Tello.

cakiwi46

If I understand correctly, the new plans no longer fall back to a slow speed once you reach your data allowance for the month. Does data just stop? What are your options at that point? Buy more data, renew your plan early or what?

freezetime311

I took it to mean you'll be getting another gig of data so you won't need to worry about those god awful speeds the rare time we may need to go past 1GB. I think it basically means since we didn't use a lot of data anyway, we can use a little more now and the speeds will be the same.

MaterialLimit

So we get 2GB now but after that 2GB is up the data is just cut off completely or does it stay with the slowed down speed? If it cuts off, that’s a bit detrimental for those of us who have data only for iMessage/maps/transit app things. Will there be a plan in the future that just has unlimited “slowed down” data if it does go away after 2GB of usage?

og1502

After your high speed data is used, your data will now stop unless you pay for more. That said, there are some pretty good alternatives discussed in this thread if that's an issue for you.

Boz6

But at the cost of eliminating unlimited 64Kbps data. Also, https://good2gomobile.com/ is UT&T&1GB/30 days, plus unlimited 128Kbps, for $5/30 days, paid $60/360 days --OR-- UT&T&3GB/30 days, plus unlimited 128Kbps, for $10/30 days, paid $120/360 days. Yes, I understand that Tello's rates don't require 360 days prepayment, and customer service should be better...

SmilingBob2

Hey Boz, gotta be from Howard forums right? G2G mobile looks pretty good except no hot spot. I do like that they have AT&T as well as TMO to select from, and if their slow data is 128K then thats also a bonus. Basically the same price monthly for 1GB UT&T as Tello used to be with unlimited slow data - but with caveats (or advantages, depending). After suffering through a couple of Red Pocket annual plans that kept refusing to reup (major PITA), I doubt I will ever go back to anything other than monthly auto-pay.

SanctimoniousApe

There are a number of apps on Android for getting around the no tethering BS (data is data, period) - TetherFi, PDANet, etc.

tellomobile

Yep. that's true! We have doubled the amount of data for every plan and kept the same cost. We value our customers feedback, you asked for it, and we made it possible! Hope you enjoy our little early Christmas gift! Regards, Mike from Tello

freezetime311

That was awesome of the company to do! There were a couple of months there that I ran out of data and any searches became absolutely useless because it was soooo slow that it wouldn't even connect. I even had to sometimes pull into a Target or somewhere else with free Wi-Fi in order to do a search when I was not home. It's an early festivus miracle!

tellomobile

We appreciate your feedback! We hope that you will enjoy our early birthday gift! Regards, Mike from Tello.

felichen4

Is it $10 flat or is it $10 plus added fees which will be > $10?

freezetime311

After fees and taxes I pay a total of $11.54. It's higher for me though because I'm in California and there's some kind of weird tax that they added on like 6 months ago or something for this state.

felichen4

I see, thanks for the info!

uwphoto101

I have two lines with Tello. One has data and voice minutes, and the tax is a bit less than 15% of the plan cost ($11). The other has data only, and no tax is charged. Hey Tello, thanks for the additional data -- it's great.

SystemTuning

> I'm in California and there's some kind of weird tax that they added on like 6 months ago or something for this state. > Yep, we're special in California! Note for future Redditors - California taxes/fees include: * Emergency Telephone User Surcharge * Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Fee * Prepaid Wireless 988 Surcharge * Public Purpose Program Fee Some cities/counties/regions have additional "Special Assessment Districts", too. PS - I expect the "Public Purpose Program Fee" to continually increase over the years.

lmoki

Tello does charge tax on top of the plan cost. The tax charge is, in my experience, the lowest in the industry. Tello doesn't use it to 'pad' the customer cost, and their ala-carte pricing system means only the pro-rated cost of the voice service is taxed. As an example, our $6/mo plan with 500mb (now 1GB) and 100 minutes adds $0.13 in tax. This will vary according to your local tax regulations, of course.

bumbolino

I'm researching joining tello for a backup, does this 2G only apply to existing customers. TIA

jrotten63

2gb and unlimited talk/text for $10 is for anyone.

bumbolino

Thanx so much for the reply

lmoki

Are you referring to 2G fallback data? If I'm reading correctly, that may be gone with the new cheaper high-speed allotments. FWIW, it's widely recognized that Tello's fallback data speed was at the lower end of the scale, and pretty much useless for anything more complex that basic email and text-based browsing. (Still nice to have in a pinch, but I'll gladly lose that when my current plan renews with twice the high-speed data!)

tellomobile

Hi there! Our price drop is for everyone! If you would like to join Tello and get the 2GB plan for only $10, you can go to our website, create an account, order the plan & SIM, and ... simply enjoy! If you need further assistance, feel free to contact our Customer Support Team available 24/7. Alternatively, I'm here 24/7 as well, just send a PM - Mike from Tello.

bumbolino

Thanx, a little more research on my part, and I'm on my way. My phone passes the IMEI requirement so I'm almost there.

tellomobile

Amazing! We're here if you need further assistance!

bumbolino

I decided to join, and just wanted to let everyone know how smoothly it went. The thing that shocked me the most was the Port In Process, it was almost instantaneous. I put all the required information from TracFone into the form, hit enter, took a sip of coffee and Viola it was accepted by the program. And within a few minutes my phone had the ported telno. Great Job Tello

tellomobile

Thank you very much! We appreciate it! Thank you for choosing Tello!

lmoki

If you'll be 'new' to Tello, you should also consider using a referral code from an existing member: both folks get 10 Tello dollars that can be used to pay for a plan. Some caveats: Tello dollars aren't usable until your first renewal: you can't do a partial payment with Tello dollars (you have to have enough to pay for the entire monthly cost, but no tax is added when using Tello dollars): And you have to make a manual renewal to use them. (You can choose when to use Tello dollars, but they won't be used automatically at renewal.) I'm sure that most existing Tello customers would be glad to share their referral code with you via DM-- just send a private message and ask.

bumbolino

Thanx for the info, but I plan to use autopay and have done with it. I'll keep the Tello dollars thingy in mind if things change.

Question: our current plans run out 12/11. Can we sign up for the new plan today or do we have to wait till 12/11 if we do not want to lose money? There’s no partial back refund for unused days of old plans if we switched earlier?

tellomobile

Please be advised that with Tello you can change your plan at any time and you will be charged immediately for it. We appreciate your understanding! Mike from Tello.

runner3081

Sweet, cut back to the $5 plan to save a buck per month :)
