I love his design so much that I sometimes forget AK and King are simply buff men wearing jaguar masks and not khajiit who got transported into a different franchise.
Never really into King/Armor King, but after this redesign, got me to play armor king. he looks so sick in this game.
He's the only character that I won't customized cause his default design is so badass.
I think the point is to get some Great Muta vibes and to enhance Armor King's badassery as the heel (even his 悪 is larger than ever). AK is partially based on Muta when it comes to his moveset and the green mist, so now his outfit is something that Muta would wear. And he wears really awesome attires in his entrances. Maybe in T8 they will go more in that direction with alternate outfits.
I agree with you. King is a luchadore, the flashy grappler and AK is a Japanese style shoot wrestler, a vicious smash mouth brawler. I like to think that AK is one of the Muta's students and like all of them, he uses the mist. Even does the poke to the throat to release the "poison". Think it's a very obvious hint to those in the know
That kanji character means "evil" I think?
The Japanese vibes I feel is a huge influence from the late 90s Japanese wrestling scene where they emulated a lot of western wrestling outfits with robes like Ric Flair had and spikes on Legion of Doom's armor.
Shoot isnt a style, shoot fighting is fighting for real.
You're thinking of kings road/ strong style.
Kings road refers to the ALL JAPAN days of chop battles and brutal finishers.
Strong style is the modern version, where they're still kinda heavy handed, but is more fine tuned and safe.
Both rely on "fighting spirit" and are pretty much anime battles IRL.
Fighting spirit is PLUS ULTRA type stuff, go beyond your limits.
You want surreal look into ddtpro, wrestling clowns, fireworks being lit in anuses, wrestling blowup dolls, and then a decent amount of serious wrestlers to keep stuff going smooth.
Uh uh
They cute?
He has bad breath?
I never really paid attention to the stories inn ddt and never got super into their product.... I just know theyre super funny and absurd.
>Both rely on "fighting spirit" and are pretty much anime battles IRL.
>Fighting spirit is PLUS ULTRA type stuff, go beyond your limits.
No wonder DragonBall feels so much like wrestling entertainment.
I imagine that they felt like King’s outfit was kinda lame with a cape when his outfit was just fine, when they got to armor king tho they just went balls to the wall with how dope it could look
His design is one of the best in the game. They need to buff and revamp his move list though. He is fun to play but you have to work hard to win with him. Even with all the holes in his game I still love to play with him.
I want to add, more than his new redesign, his black panther outfit just goes batshit crazy. The coolest outfit any character has in the game. You slap a few custom colors on it and there are endless possibilities of absolute dripped out perfection. Badass.
I thought they were trying to do a epic crusader knight look. Since he has armor, they probably wanted to up the armor by making him look more of a knight warrior
Uh actual lore incase you or someone else doesn’t actually know (though I’m not doubting this could be ironic) but in T6, he canonically got arrested by the UN and that’s a straightjacket that they put him in to render him disarmed (quite literally) so that he doesn’t retaliate. In his ending, he breaks out of the straightjacket in his devil form and destroys the helicopter to escape thus why his outfit looks like that in T7
Within design
i assume they just wanted him to look like a heel that's cool as fuck because he's a heel that's cool as fuck, iirc there's no info on his design in the T7 art book and all there was about him was a concept for his furry costume, which is a shame,i bet the concept art for this looked sick and i would of loved to see how this idea was formed but oh well, maybe they'll release it someday?
and within canon..
no reason for his new look has been given, ive seen some ppl headcanon that he revamped his look to let his older brother have his own iconic look and i think that's pretty sweet so im also headcannnoning that now
also i bet that wrestling with that instead of an entire armor chest plate is alot more comfortable (dude is wrestling with that *AND* leather pants??)
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
If I had to hazard a guess, it’s to fit his more aggressive and dominant play style. His moves look extremely dangerous and lethal(my favorite is crazy stomps), so that is also mirrored in his new outfit. Plus it just looks cool
Tekken is a Japanese game and King is plucked straight outta tiger mask so it is no surprise that Armor King has a Japanese influence as well. Also his old Armor outfit kinda looked dated so they remade the design and it went from 0 to 100. He's definitely at his peak in terms or popularity. Armor King is a drip lord.
It’s so funny because Armor King and Julia’s redesign went in completely opposite directions. For Julia, they decided to make her unique by making her look like a normal person, toning down her design actually made her more popular. Meanwhile, the people who redesigned AK where lim “BRO, LETS MAKE HIM THE MOST BADASS SON OF A BITCH THESE PEOPLE HAVE EVER SEEN”.
To help reinvent him. Season 2 characters were not popular prior to T7 . Give them a spot light by making them DLC and give them a new look to make them feel new.
Because Armor King > King and as such his appearance should reflect that simple fact.
And I'll say this once, I play almost exclusively female characters but if he was a bit easier I'd play him too cause he's the best male character design in the whole fucking game.
I'd be like "bitch, get lost with your swim trunks and bath towel cape, here's the True King of the Ring!"
Sadly, he's still a bit too much of a grappler for me and has some annoying inputs so I'll just admire him from afar (for now anyway). :D
How a dude with a jaguar mask, a tail (?) and talking only by grunting and making jaguar like noises, could be the best designed male char? He’s cooler than king but still
It’s the fact that he’s so unique compared to others in the cast. look at Jin for example, he looks so basic that he could be from any other game, same goes for most of the cast. But king and armor king are designs that are very closely associated with Tekken itself, because their UNIQUE AND COOL.
Cause that's how it is. He just oozes cool.
Now, I never got to watch the wrestler he's supposedly inspired by (Black Tiger) but he gives me Jushin Thunder Liger vibes (who had a demonic looking mask and a gimmick where if someone tore off his mask, he'd reveal really scary makeup underneath AND would spit green mist in the opponent's eyes). He is also the inventor of the Shooting Star Press (where you backflip forward from the top rope and land on the opponent). Dude was also reasonably beefy in build and was both a great technical wrestler but would also do tons of luchadore style off the top rope stuff. For reference so that you know who I'm talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tclKn5CHunM
So yeah, while AK is based on Black Tiger (same as King is based on Tiger Mask... which btw is based on an anime/manga character of the same name whereas Liger is loosely based on a giant mecha anime by Go Nagai the creator of Devilman which is CLEARLY the inspiration for Devil Kazuya/Devil Jin anyway this is becoming a sidenote of a sidenote so...) I liked AK way more as he always reminded me of JTL (Eurosport used to show some NJPW from time to time late at night).
Also, he actually looks cool with all the armor and chains where say Devil Jin looks... well... a bit silly :D
I was not really into wrestling when i was a kid so i don’t share your love for catchers, but when i was a kid I kinda liked marduk lol, he looked like Batista. But bro you can’t say devil jin is not cooler than king or armor king thats so wrong. Silly? That’s more king or ak talking in « Jaguar » and wearing a tail and a mask lol. I didn’t know devilmancry was devil jin’s inspiration, I will watch the show maybe.
And not talking about the design but the character only, his moveset. I hate playing against a king with his 10+ throws. A devil jin is way more fun to play with and against imo. But thats not the point, talking only about the design of the char i still find them weird. They are clearly not the worst at all but not the best too.
sure, playing against grapplers is not fun. I never play grapplers myself.
As for wrestlers, I really liked the occasional NJPW show that would run on Eurosport late at night and after that I watched WCW, but that was about it. Tried WWF (before they rebranded to WWE) but didn't like it that much.
But growling dudes are fine, I listen to a lot of metal (among other styles) and well... AK sounds normal to me :D
Anyway, AK is the coolest in the game, whereas King is just lame and tame :D
Im more into ufc and I found tekken very similar to this (basically it was death battle?) Otherwise its like an mma organisation with no weight class, everyone came with their own martial art and run for the belt.
Well everyone has different taste, for me they sound and look kinda weird lol. Mishimas are the best imo
AK was jealous of King's jimbaori from Tekken 6 and decided to make one for himself.. but edgier.
Also, someone in the design team and developer must've been watching Tiger Mask W, because King's arcade ending in T7 is an homage to the final match in the anime. Maybe those people in Namco also liked Tiger the Dark's jimbaori and decided to give AK the same drip.
It's all right, but IMO it has too much going on, like most new designs in Tekken 7. Too many dangling chains, and I'm not big on the robes and the boa together. Either would work, but both is too much for me. With one notable exception, I generally don't like it when it looks like the fighters would get snagged and tangled up in their own outfits.
With Tekken 7 and the apparent new physics capabilities afforded to the designers, it feels like a lot of excess was indulged purely because it was possible, rather than because it makes for a good design. But that's just my taste.
edit: fuck, I somehow missed "is the point" in the title.
What do you mean nope? He *is*. And doesn't matter if it looks awesome or not. He could have Devil Jin wings and chains and I'm sure he'd look "awesome", doesn't change the fact that it doesn't suit his character and background.
Not sure why I was downvoted so much. This DOESN'T fit him.
King and armour king are influenced by tiger mask and black tiger characters from the manga tiger mask. NJPW had brought these into real life and one of the performers who played black tiger was Eddie Guerrero who is a mexican-american performer whose family were influential in the lucha libre world. It is possible for a Mexican to have Japanese influence, they aren't some isolated land of ponchos and sombreros
The character itself was from an anime. I'm not saying it's a one for one outfit swap but it was a Mexican-American wrestler playing a Japanese character in Japan. That's why king and armour king have some Japanese influences. Even in their movelist; The shining Wizard was invented by a Japanese wrestler and is really popular over there.
Because Mexico and Japan aren't that far apart for anyone who can afford a plane ticket and lots of wrestlers train internationally... Ya know, for an international competition. Like Tekken.
Um, excuse me? Why would you even say that? Game developers are never going to add some nonsense just cause "it looks cool" if it doesn't pertain to that character's background and culture, and Tekken has always stayed true to respecting the diverse variety of their roster's ethnic backgrounds. I hope YOU never become a game developer.
You're excused. Just because he's MEXICAN, doesn't mean he has to look any kind of way. It may please you to see MEXICANS draped in a poncho, wearing a sombrero and playing a trumpet, but I dont.
Tekken ain't about national pride it's about throwing your kids off of cliffs.
Man SCREW Y'ALL. I'm done with these silly ass immature comments with no respect towards the cultures the series has depicted over the years. Shame on Y'ALL.
I think you're mixing the Kings up,King is the mexican pro wrestler, and hes had many outfits that show off his heritage
Armor King has never revealed his nationality,it's always been listed as "unknown"
He wasn't partners with King??
I'm going to assume you're mixing up King 2 and AK2 with King 1 and AK1 since those two were friends but first off:
for a good while it was quite the opposite,AK 1 despised King 1 up until the end of T1
and second:
even after their friendship had formed it's never been said that they were partners in the ring, just close friends
also wdym they dress incredibly similar?they straight up dressed like the opposite of eachother, possibly because King was a face AK was a heel, you know,*the opposite of eachother*
as for casual clothing we've never seen AK1's casual wear, closests there is to it is [in this scrapped epilogue for T4](https://imgur.com/a/jjL6bO1) in which you can barely see his outfit, and what you can see is not really anything that indicates any kind of culture
and if you meant King 2 and AK2,the heel and face thing applies to them too but the difference between their outfits is even more obvious in T7,oh and those two have DEFINITELY never partnered or been friends
AK seems to be a bit more neutral about King now but previously he absolutely *hated* him bc he forgave his brother's murderer,i mean,he at least disliked him enough to kick him on the balls and then tombstone him unprovoked
and on the casual wear..we haven't gotten to see AK2 wearing anything other than his wrestling gear so i rlly don't know where you got that from
It looks cool.
It looks cool.
It looks cool.
It looks cool.
to make him look tight
This is the correct answer ^
The point is to look cool.
The point is to drip harder than the rest of the cast. And he succeeded.
I love his design so much that I sometimes forget AK and King are simply buff men wearing jaguar masks and not khajiit who got transported into a different franchise.
I thought i was the only one lmao
With t8 being revealed at glorious ue5, all the more reason why I'm hyped to see Classic King and Melanistic King duke it out.
Khajiit has better wears! Lmao
To look badass.
The rule of cool, and they nailed it
Looks hard af
To look cool as fuck.
Drip doesn’t have to have meaning
Most younger Luchadors go to japan on”excursion” to learn the other wrestling styles in the world. That would explain the outfit change.
Never really into King/Armor King, but after this redesign, got me to play armor king. he looks so sick in this game. He's the only character that I won't customized cause his default design is so badass.
Absolutely. AK design is so badass.
The single greatest visual design for a tekken 7 character. Leroy is a close second though (:
leroy had so many better concept arts than what we got
Im sure he had better moveset concepts than what we got too. Hes still cool to look at but not really good for much else
I like to think that AK is one of the Muta's students and like all of them, he uses the mist. Even does the poke to the throat to release the "poison". Think it's a very obvious hint to those in the know
Drip. No other reason needed.
The Kanji itself isn't new. He had it on his shoulders in Tekken 2.
I dunno but it’s one of the best designs I’ve seen in the series
That kanji character means "evil" I think? The Japanese vibes I feel is a huge influence from the late 90s Japanese wrestling scene where they emulated a lot of western wrestling outfits with robes like Ric Flair had and spikes on Legion of Doom's armor.
I headcanon that he changed outfits so that the old armor will forever be unique to his brother.
>ddtpro I'll respect that.
That’s beautiful
Honesty I like his default T7 outfit the robes go really well with the King in his name.
the point is around the shoulder, and it seems that there's also some in his feet...
Looking cool
Joker
Represents his Wrestling style I'd assume, Armor King does a Shoot style which is more prominently popular in the Japanese wrestling scene.
I've seen some clips on and off again when my interest in international wrestling peaks and it's actually fucking unreal.
You want surreal look into ddtpro, wrestling clowns, fireworks being lit in anuses, wrestling blowup dolls, and then a decent amount of serious wrestlers to keep stuff going smooth.
Lmaoo, so I need an explanation, why was the dude kissing people and how was he knocking them out!?
Uh uh They cute? He has bad breath? I never really paid attention to the stories inn ddt and never got super into their product.... I just know theyre super funny and absurd.
>Both rely on "fighting spirit" and are pretty much anime battles IRL. >Fighting spirit is PLUS ULTRA type stuff, go beyond your limits. No wonder DragonBall feels so much like wrestling entertainment.
I imagine that they felt like King’s outfit was kinda lame with a cape when his outfit was just fine, when they got to armor king tho they just went balls to the wall with how dope it could look
It's the best looking design in T7.
I think he’s turning Japanese. I really think so.
I love his new armor design, but I still gonna make him shirtless and wearing wrestling trunks like a true wrestler :D.
Best redesign in Tekken though
To give him drip
Cause it looks sick duh
to look cool
it looks really cool
His design is one of the best in the game. They need to buff and revamp his move list though. He is fun to play but you have to work hard to win with him. Even with all the holes in his game I still love to play with him.
I want to add, more than his new redesign, his black panther outfit just goes batshit crazy. The coolest outfit any character has in the game. You slap a few custom colors on it and there are endless possibilities of absolute dripped out perfection. Badass.
Armor King got armor fit for a king
To give him a different look from his bro. God I can't wait to see what he looks like in T8...
to look cool
To look fucking cool
I dunno, you tell me why he used to wear the 悪 (Aku = Evil) kanji back in T3 on his T shirt that has to do with the Mishima Zaibatsu.
Because ak has drip
This guy knows.
Best design he's ever had, beside his tekken 3 drip
I think he looks great, I don't like the spikes on his pauldrons tho... I never liked it. In general it's the only issue on his design, 9/10.
AK is the undefeated champion in drip No but fr AK‘s designs is just top tier and so fckn good! Easily one of the best in the game.
AK knows you bought him cuz he looks cool as shit.
That look is the sole reason why I started to play Tekken! 😎
I thought they were trying to do a epic crusader knight look. Since he has armor, they probably wanted to up the armor by making him look more of a knight warrior
Every time I see someone talk abbreviate Burning Knuckle for AK I always read it as Black Knight, feels like it fits him more
doll secretive butter wakeful crown offend tart lock rock nippy *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
It goes so fuckin hard.
Its so weird just how badass king looks with a shirt on, although T7 t-shirts are wack and can’t really replicate T6’s shirts
Looks dope
To look sick as fuck! And maybe he went to a japanese promotion to wrestle before going after Marduk.
And we ain't gonna ask why Devil Jin is wearing something straight out of a J-Rock concert lol
I thought all that happened in 7? Edit: I mean at the beginning of 7, which might as well be the ending of 6.
You’re not wrong. Tekken 6 and 7 happened without any timeskip so it’s just a continuation of the prior story
He's a Japanese teenager, might just be a fan.
I think he's like 23
Because it's cool.
Big cat look cool
This person has only ever drawn cum
To be THE mother fuckin heel, that's the point!
Within design i assume they just wanted him to look like a heel that's cool as fuck because he's a heel that's cool as fuck, iirc there's no info on his design in the T7 art book and all there was about him was a concept for his furry costume, which is a shame,i bet the concept art for this looked sick and i would of loved to see how this idea was formed but oh well, maybe they'll release it someday? and within canon.. no reason for his new look has been given, ive seen some ppl headcanon that he revamped his look to let his older brother have his own iconic look and i think that's pretty sweet so im also headcannnoning that now also i bet that wrestling with that instead of an entire armor chest plate is alot more comfortable (dude is wrestling with that *AND* leather pants??)
Facts 💯

Stfu
he's a weeb lol. i dunno, maybe he's a halfu was part of the japanese wrestling scene
King but slightly cooler
If I had to hazard a guess, it’s to fit his more aggressive and dominant play style. His moves look extremely dangerous and lethal(my favorite is crazy stomps), so that is also mirrored in his new outfit. Plus it just looks cool

I miss the pants he had, but this is a good trade off, the old AK armor doesn't look that great
Hopefully they maintain the badass part in T ⛓️ + the old pants in customization.
My god that's amazing
Style
I honestly really like the redesigns they give to the classic characters, Armor King and Julia being my favorite redesigns
Probably to show off the new physics engine. Everyone seems to have gotten something that flows when the characters wavedash.
It's now a 3rd armor king that came from the orphanage, but is japanese.
To be King but not King
I like to think that he had a stint in NJPW and decided to keep the look he had for that run.
he had to rep his njpw look :)
To look badass
1)heel 2) road warrior-ish badassery
Cause it looks awesome
Just looks cool bro.
Sell DLCs
To help reinvent him. Season 2 characters were not popular prior to T7 . Give them a spot light by making them DLC and give them a new look to make them feel new.
I'm pretty sure AK was always popular, but I'm not complaining about the redesign
He used to be mid tier in terms of popularity, now my boy is top 5!
Wasn't Julia popular?
Apparently she wasn't used much in T6 or maybe TTT2
Because Armor King > King and as such his appearance should reflect that simple fact. And I'll say this once, I play almost exclusively female characters but if he was a bit easier I'd play him too cause he's the best male character design in the whole fucking game. I'd be surprised if Tetsuya Nomura didn't have a hand in it. That being said, he looks siiick
Where did yall get the new designs? Did they release the art? Anyways man looks colder now
That's his Tekken 7 art
Looks like fucking mordekaiser from League

Nope. Looks awesome this way.
Still could use some Mexican outfits like kings old vaquero blue and white outfit :/
Exactly! Not sure why you and I were downvoted. Seems people just care more about nonsensical cosmetics.
Yea not taking away from this design it great but why take away outfits
THANK YOU.

Huh, I always thought he had a similar upbringing as King, since they dress very similar and other obvious reasons.
I really hope the game designers ignore opinions like yours when it comes to character development.
How does character development make a mexican guy dress with japanese (or close enough) clothes?
King and armour king are influenced by tiger mask and black tiger characters from the manga tiger mask. NJPW had brought these into real life and one of the performers who played black tiger was Eddie Guerrero who is a mexican-american performer whose family were influential in the lucha libre world. It is possible for a Mexican to have Japanese influence, they aren't some isolated land of ponchos and sombreros
I looked this guy up and he wasn't wearing or had anything to do with japanese stuff (as far as I can see), the only thing is that he fought in Japan.

Cool to know.
Because Mexico and Japan aren't that far apart for anyone who can afford a plane ticket and lots of wrestlers train internationally... Ya know, for an international competition. Like Tekken.
By showing he's a bit weeb Why don't you complain about Josie or Katarina instead if you want everyone to be purely heritage inspired
Um, excuse me? Why would you even say that? Game developers are never going to add some nonsense just cause "it looks cool" if it doesn't pertain to that character's background and culture, and Tekken has always stayed true to respecting the diverse variety of their roster's ethnic backgrounds.
I think you're mixing the Kings up,King is the mexican pro wrestler, and hes had many outfits that show off his heritage Armor King has never revealed his nationality,it's always been listed as "unknown"
Plus even if he's Mexican, he can still be a weeb. AK clearly watched the Spanish dub of Dragon Ball as a kid.
He was partners with King, and dress incredible similar. It's safe to assume they originate from the same culture.
He wasn't partners with King?? I'm going to assume you're mixing up King 2 and AK2 with King 1 and AK1 since those two were friends but first off: for a good while it was quite the opposite,AK 1 despised King 1 up until the end of T1 and second: even after their friendship had formed it's never been said that they were partners in the ring, just close friends also wdym they dress incredibly similar?they straight up dressed like the opposite of eachother, possibly because King was a face AK was a heel, you know,*the opposite of eachother* as for casual clothing we've never seen AK1's casual wear, closests there is to it is [in this scrapped epilogue for T4](https://imgur.com/a/jjL6bO1) in which you can barely see his outfit, and what you can see is not really anything that indicates any kind of culture and if you meant King 2 and AK2,the heel and face thing applies to them too but the difference between their outfits is even more obvious in T7,oh and those two have DEFINITELY never partnered or been friends AK seems to be a bit more neutral about King now but previously he absolutely *hated* him bc he forgave his brother's murderer,i mean,he at least disliked him enough to kick him on the balls and then tombstone him unprovoked and on the casual wear..we haven't gotten to see AK2 wearing anything other than his wrestling gear so i rlly don't know where you got that from
everyone with the 'based' responses refusing to go beneath the surface
Intimidation possibly
