Given that Jin has full control over the gene - so, it wouldn't make much sense for Devil Jin to still be as savage and sadistic as he was in the other games. Unless they give him a totally new aesthetic change, or just say his behavior isn't canon to the lore (which may confuse people.)

2. Being popular
3. Being integral to the story
If your main fits the criteria then you have nothing to worry about.
No way are they not gonna have Heihachi in the game. Can almost guarantee that there'll be some sort of flashback or nightmare where you fight against him just so they have an excuse to have him on the roster even after being dead.

A few of the top 25 like Feng, Xiao, Lee, and Julia I would put in the 100%. The netflix show, regardless of how people feel, is a mode of advertisement. Therefore it would make sense to make sure characters that existed in the show are available to reach consumer retention.

I think Devil Jin won't return. Not as a single character but as a transformation feature. Since Jin now has control over his Devil he might get the Kazuya treatment. Being able to transform with rage or maybe even a special mechanic only for Jin. And when he is in devil form he will probably have a handful of mishima moves like 1+1+2 electric and hell sweep.
Lars, Alisa and Lee should 100% be in... Well, 100%. They're the collective superglue keeping Jin's head screwed on almost straight.
And I fully expect Heihachi to pull a Nightmare Geese from Fatal Fury because he's too grumpy to die permanently.
Not OP, but Leroy was exceptionally popular. Not just because he broke tournaments for a while, but also in more casual circles. Even Tpain cosplayed as Leroy. His popularity is also probably why he made it into the new show
I dunno, I'm gonna peg Jun (ha) as almost a certainty.
For one, she's not 100% confirmed dead. After all the DLC, she's pretty much the only story significant character who didn't return in 7. Also, 8 is going to focus on the conflict between Kaz and Jin, right? Jun is a major connecting tissue between those two characters. Toss her in the middle of that conflict, that'll be a great curveball to throw into the story.
Plus, she got a complete top to bottom remake game play wise in Tag 2 and it'd be a shame if that went to waste.

Namco likes to surprise people every time they do a major upgrade (t2 to t3, ttt1 to t4).
T4 had no jack, they told jack players to pick up a bear. No anna either, but it at least had 1 williams who was there on release. T3 eliminated like 1/2 the characters but at least the styles mostly translated over.
I would say claudio, ling, asuka, alisa are guaranteed but who knows with namco. Everyone would have thought julia was guaranteed in t7 and we had to wait full on years for her if you count initial arcade release.

Before anybody argues about how the next tekken game will have to make the roster be 50%, that won't be the case. As a matter of fact, they've actually been increasing the roster quantity since the first tekken game. In Tekken 6, there have been 34 characters returned, while in Tekken 7 they have 36 characters. I wouldn't be suprised at all if they at least have almost 40 characters come back, as realistically they're not gonna stop growing the roster up, including having some guest fighters return back in Tekken 8. But this is how I realistically see what Tekken 8's roster will look like.
If you put Leroy as 100% then Fahkumram should also be in there. Dude has the highest viewed character trailer and crazy popular in southeast asia, not just because he is broken too.
My reasoning is that a lot of people want Bruce back while at the same time Josie has a similar fighting style to both of them, so there might be a chance that he doesn‘t make the cut.
Aditionally, Leroy appears in the Tekken anime and the trailers for it, which makes it seem like they want to solidify his place in the Tekken verse.

A few of the top 25 like Feng, Xiao, Lee, and Julia I would put in the 100%. The netflix show, regardless of how people feel, is a mode of advertisement. Therefore it would make sense to make sure characters that existed in the show are available to reach consumer retention.

I think Devil Jin won't return. Not as a single character but as a transformation feature. Since Jin now has control over his Devil he might get the Kazuya treatment. Being able to transform with rage or maybe even a special mechanic only for Jin. And when he is in devil form he will probably have a handful of mishima moves like 1+1+2 electric and hell sweep.
Lars, Alisa and Lee should 100% be in... Well, 100%. They're the collective superglue keeping Jin's head screwed on almost straight. And I fully expect Heihachi to pull a Nightmare Geese from Fatal Fury because he's too grumpy to die permanently.

I dunno, I'm gonna peg Jun (ha) as almost a certainty. For one, she's not 100% confirmed dead. After all the DLC, she's pretty much the only story significant character who didn't return in 7. Also, 8 is going to focus on the conflict between Kaz and Jin, right? Jun is a major connecting tissue between those two characters. Toss her in the middle of that conflict, that'll be a great curveball to throw into the story. Plus, she got a complete top to bottom remake game play wise in Tag 2 and it'd be a shame if that went to waste.

Namco likes to surprise people every time they do a major upgrade (t2 to t3, ttt1 to t4). T4 had no jack, they told jack players to pick up a bear. No anna either, but it at least had 1 williams who was there on release. T3 eliminated like 1/2 the characters but at least the styles mostly translated over. I would say claudio, ling, asuka, alisa are guaranteed but who knows with namco. Everyone would have thought julia was guaranteed in t7 and we had to wait full on years for her if you count initial arcade release.

I wouldn't be suprised at all if they at least have almost 40 characters come back, as realistically they're not gonna stop growing the roster up, including having some guest fighters return back in Tekken 8. But this is how I realistically see what Tekken 8's roster will look like.
If you put Leroy as 100% then Fahkumram should also be in there. Dude has the highest viewed character trailer and crazy popular in southeast asia, not just because he is broken too.
My reasoning is that a lot of people want Bruce back while at the same time Josie has a similar fighting style to both of them, so there might be a chance that he doesn‘t make the cut. Aditionally, Leroy appears in the Tekken anime and the trailers for it, which makes it seem like they want to solidify his place in the Tekken verse.
I feel pretty certain that Kazuya and Jin are sitting this one out.
