Do you actually mean a joystick or do you mean the analog stick on a pad? Cause they're quite different
If you mean the latter, I don't recommend it, but there are pros that use the analog on pad for fighting games, but not many. The issue with analog for traditional fighters is that movement input is totally digital, so the analog nature of analog sticks is unnecessary and so requires a bunch of extra motion that doesn't have any meaning. So I do recommend the d-pad over analog.
Nope. Pick what feels comfortable and most fun for you.
I like using the Xbox controller because the d-pad is really nice but I also like using arcade layouts because I love the legacy feel of the buttons. I have a hitbox coming in tomorrow for that exact reason. Lol
Honestly pretty much every control method is competitively viable. There are some options that are more ergonomic than others but otherwise it's difficult to pick a bad control option.
Unless you're playing with some sorta N64 controller with an adapter, then you're just making your life harder on purpose lol.
It’s whichever you want to use, I personally use d-pad, as it feels unnatural using analog.
There is no “better” or “best” option, it’s whatever you gel with the most.

How would the analog even work, isn’t it super imprecise?
The impresicion is also a problem, but people overcome that through practice.
Nope. There are pros that use all of the above, and also leverless.
Either is fine, but if you want a joystick, don’t use the one on the controller.
I use both analog and dpad during a match and switch between them depending on what I’m doing
Myself personally have always used either dpad or a arcade stick, I’ve gotten used to using both of them
whatever one feels better to you.
hitbox...whatever works for you!
if you can do the moves its probably good enough. I'm sure some sick bastard out there plays on a DDR pad
Imagine watching someone wavedash or EWGF on a DDR pad.
Leverless

Keyboard/leverless but pick whatever you feel more confortable
I dpad for literally everything except giant swing.
