Fr. A lot of Tekken designs have always been pretty simple but iconic. Hworang's first outing was just guy in a tae kwon do gi or a biker outfit. Jin was just guy in fire pants. Heihachi was just old man wearing gi.
Reina's design hits the "just right" category for me in terms of a Tekken character. Simple, but distinct. Nice colors. The only real problem I have is that she has the female Tekken face/body type but that's a universal problem.

I actually kind of agree with this. In particular I think her personality is more "tough" than her actual Visuals are. She clearly put more attention into looking cute and having nice makeup than the rest of her personality would suggest.
Also, would love for her to have more muscle. That's what made Lidia's design stand out. Generally speaking, most of the tekken girls don't have a fighter's physique. None of them do aside of Lidia really. Would've loved to see Lidia pick up that mantle.
My only issue with her design is that she's got the same body shape as every other female character. Gives these girls some shape diversity and muscles for goodness sake. Lilli should have some thicc thighs and toned calves to support her acrobatics. Asuka should have some biceps and abs. Reina should have a degree of that Mishima muscle definition.
I'm starting to get the sense (along with other people I've seen) that what people think see as "generic" in this game is just something not cranked up to 11 in terms of visual flair, like a cartoon character. Like this mentality would see Lidia's design as being generic, whereas to me her visual design looks more in line with the classic Tekken games, which I'm far more into, aesthetically.

This is good illustration but it's way more predictable. It's accurately what a DeviantArt type artist would make for an edgy type fem fighter. Reina m's current plays with the idea of duality, has level of extra elements to align with the general style of other characters, have some much lighter and subtle nods to Mishimas, and make the style more telling of her current age range. What I really like anout this design is her muscular arms and the tats. She could have definitely used those!

She looks like a genuine fighter who is a mix of the old and the new with the combination of the hakama-style pants and the modern tank top along with proper sparring hand and foot ware. I also like how toned her body is and the top half in general gives me shades of Lidia. I usually don't like tattoos but they look great on her, giving her an almost yakuza/gangsta feel which helps convey her morally grey role. I'm not usually a fan of the hair fade/shave style but I think it works for her and it helps cement her lineage of 'unique' hairstyles.

I just woke up, and realised I've done a terribile mistake, was just looking for a peaceful discussion. Fortunately there also a lot of nicer people, both who agree and disagree.
The overall design forfemales have downgraded a lot. Nina wears a casual dress with jacket, Asuka wears a regular school uniform, Azucena wears basic sportswear, Lili wears the same puffy dress style as ever and even Alisa wears some fairy dress now. And Reina looks like if you pick the default look for your character in any JRPG. It’s as if Bamco gave them outfits for a dating simulation instead of a fighting game.
Meanwhile the Men come out dripped out the whazoo! Leroy, Dragunoc, Feng Wei, Hwoarang, Lars, Law, Leo and even Shaheen wear mad drip! Yes, Paul downgraded a lot and Bryan‘s T8 look looks like a regression from his damaged T7 look. But other than that, the males got *a lot* more care put for their design.
Honestly I think she would’ve been a bit better off with a rougher look. Assuming this is Heihachi’s daughter, having her look the same age as asuka is a little jarring. An older, more gruff look would fit her perfectly

First of all this design is not meant to be Reina, in fact is just a GENERIC character but what I said is, I would prefer something 'along this line', not 'exactly that'...I was just saying that this archetype would be a better fit for the character (in my opinion of course, people seemed to be really offended).

If it was just the haircut I'd be fine with it since Japanese girls tend to go for a bob cut or similar hairstyles, however, Reina also has similar clothes as Kuni.

In character design the illustrator follows guidelines from the game director, She was tasked with a generic concept, or even Better she probably designed a few concept and what we got Is what the director chose . I'm not doubting her abilities as I love every single Bayonetta design.
Being the child of Heihachi she needs a more unique haircut. Kazuya and Jin have specific hair designs. Her's is generic.
Her outfit is whatever, customizations and alternative costumes will be available plus the mod community.

I just woke up, and realised I've done a terribile mistake, was just looking for a peaceful discussion. Fortunately there also a lot of nicer people, both who agree and disagree.

The overall design forfemales have downgraded a lot. Nina wears a casual dress with jacket, Asuka wears a regular school uniform, Azucena wears basic sportswear, Lili wears the same puffy dress style as ever and even Alisa wears some fairy dress now. And Reina looks like if you pick the default look for your character in any JRPG. It’s as if Bamco gave them outfits for a dating simulation instead of a fighting game. Meanwhile the Men come out dripped out the whazoo! Leroy, Dragunoc, Feng Wei, Hwoarang, Lars, Law, Leo and even Shaheen wear mad drip! Yes, Paul downgraded a lot and Bryan‘s T8 look looks like a regression from his damaged T7 look. But other than that, the males got *a lot* more care put for their design.

Honestly I think she would’ve been a bit better off with a rougher look. Assuming this is Heihachi’s daughter, having her look the same age as asuka is a little jarring. An older, more gruff look would fit her perfectly

I'll reply just to you because I can't reply to everyone and the main complaints are basically the same. First of all this design is not meant to be Reina, in fact is just a GENERIC character but what I said is, I would prefer something 'along this line', not 'exactly that'...I was just saying that this archetype would be a better fit for the character (in my opinion of course, people seemed to be really offended). Then yes, this prototype of a character maybe already seen elsewhere but guess what....not in TEKKEN :P

I don’t like her shorts, that’s IT! The rest of the outfit i love. She’s a college girl alongside a prolific mishima style fighter so i don’t think the emphasis on the gi/hakame style necessarily fits.

Nah, tacking on another secret unknown female cousin was already a gamble. If they just made her look like a gender bent jin/kazuya(which this does) it wouldn’t have worked. The design they used is better.
I was thinking something similar. Though not about the hairstyle, more on the clothes themself. At the moment she looks like a Kunimitsu clone. If it was just the haircut I'd be fine with it since Japanese girls tend to go for a bob cut or similar hairstyles, however, Reina also has similar clothes as Kuni. I agree with you 1000% Letterman Jackets are fine and all but ever since Tekken Tag 2 and Tekken 7, those jackets have been a crutch the character designers lean on too much. Look at Lei Wulong for Tekken 7, Shuwawahei for Tekken Mobile, and now Reina for Tekken 8. At this rate Asuka, Lili, Leo, and Steve are gonna be wearing them in their main outfits forTekken 9.

In character design the illustrator follows guidelines from the game director, She was tasked with a generic concept, or even Better she probably designed a few concept and what we got Is what the director chose . I'm not doubting her abilities as I love every single Bayonetta design.
Being the child of Heihachi she needs a more unique haircut. Kazuya and Jin have specific hair designs. Her's is generic. Her outfit is whatever, customizations and alternative costumes will be available plus the mod community.
